I loved these books! They're hurtful but also reletable. I recommend this to those who don't have it easy. Many sentences hit my heart. I also recommend to read these while doing marks to the books.
It's the most amazing book I have ever read, I really liked how the author potrayed each character with their own flaws. I thought Ryle would be her happy ending, but I wasn't disappointed with a different ending instead.(it was happy indeed)
I would have loved to know more about the ryle part of the story. Also what charlie has been through all her life.. it's really hard to cope up. After reading the book, I now know abit on how people feel when they aren't mentally stable.
It's a book I couldn't keep down, and that made me fall in love with the author's writing style. If you can read on self harm or any other kind of abuse, I suggest you read this book for sure. It's a 5⭐ read.
Also I never read author's note at the end or at the beginning of any book, but after reading the story I was curious about it. And am so glad I read the author's note. It was so touching.
"Self-harm is not a grab for attention. It doesn’t mean you are suicidal. It means you are struggling to get out of a very dangerous mess in your mind and heart and this is your coping mechanism"
Charlie Davis finds her voice, and her solace, in drawing. And the author found her's in writing. What’s your solace?
I love al three of these books. I read "Girl in pieces" first.
This touched me in a way i understood to well yet simultaneously not enough, I was as a stage of life where i'd gone through similar but, never reflecting our thought about things. This book shone lights on parts of me i wasnt ready to think about. Now i am, and im happy i read it.
then i read "youd be home now".
The way kathleen glasgow writes is beautiful to me, never droning on too long about something, never buried in the details, yet describing things beautifully. the way she describes feelings and thoughts and expresses then is easy to connect to. this book is no exception.
Today, i finished "how to make friends in the dark"
maybe its thanks to where im at in life that i can read this book more thoughtfully, with more focus than i did the rest. This is the first book ive ever shed tears to. I connected with it despite never having lost a close loved one like she had. the displays of grief, depression pain. Noone is painted as a villian or a hero. theyre just people, flawed people. i look at my life more appreciatively after reading this book. Grateful for all the things i have.
I love these trios shining light on the mental health struggles in a way that not many authors do. I struggle with my mental disorders, and it was awesome seeing it be talked about in a non-clinical or judging way. Wish I had these as a teen. These helped me get through in the hospital, I hope Kathleen writes more books similar to these that shines light even more on other mental disorders and the hard truths that accompany them.
definitely took me some time to warm up to- says the t blatantly out like it is- no romanticization- every up and down of life - and an even further down, pls note that you definitely need to be in the right state of mind to not be triggered by certain experiences that are described :) overall really much enjoyed it, even when it was quite the emotional rollercoaster - quote-worthy
These books were all amazing! The emotions, actions, and word play in them hit a spot in the heart that I feel is rarely touched especially in writing! They all are different story’a of different tough topics but they all portray a real life situation that many people may experience. I love all of these books and will probably keep my copy’s forever!!!
Girl in pieces est un livre qui m'as fait passer sous différentes émotions. You'd be home now est mon livre favori et lui est juste un chef d'œuvre (à mon goût) How to make friend with the dark est tout autant incroyable, je n'ai jamais été aussi vide en terminant de le lire<3
I really enjoyed all three of these books. I really liked how each of them represent different ways of mental struggle like drugs or sh and i think they were pretty accurate and i would say helpful in making people feel less alone
This book was just ok for me. It was a slow story. I was mostly just irritated with the main characters consistent terrible decisions. I think it might be more relatable for teenagers.
i loved these books so much. strong stories for me. they definitely resonated very deep. serious topics. light at the end of the tunnel type deal. loved them so so much.
