The King's Seer #3

Intertwining Destinies

Rate this book
Serenity’s made it home, all should be well, but that is far from true. Despite being back with the family she so desperately fought to get back to, all she can think about is the life she left behind. Her aching heart grows worse day by day, but she doesn’t have anyone to confide in about her impossible adventure, so she keeps it all to herself, letting her grief slowly consume her.

With no seer, no queen, and no love of his life, Kang-Dae is in a bad place. Though those around him try to convince him Serenity is gone for good, he refuses to accept it. There’s something inside him that desperately clings to the hope that she is alive. Though his kingdom needs him, he can’t help feeling Serenity needs him more. The only thing he can think of is getting her back, and he’s willing to cross worlds to do so.

Here’s the thing, I liked this book, but I didn’t LOVE it and I LOVED the previous 2 books in the series. So much so that I couldn’t wait to read this instalment. To be honest, I was kind of let down by it. It started off well enough- dealing with the- rightfully so, traumatic response from both Serenity and Kang Dae.
1. Who wouldn’t be traumatised by what they went through know long how much they loved each other but had ties back home (in Serenity’s case) that they wanted to get back to because the way she left (falling i a portal to another world through a lake) was so abrupt
2. Creating a life for yourself and finding your soulmate but now having your family again and not being able to see your soulmate is SOUL CRUSHING.
And I loved the way the author handled that. It was done well. It wasn’t pretty or touch and go. Neither of them were sad for a day then magically all was well. They stopped eating, or barely ate. Charged into battle to distract their thoughts, avoided all things that could remind them of the other and just had a good long cry. I loved the somewhat realistic approach in the fantasy novel. Kudos.

What I didn’t like, was how disjointed the writing felt in this book. It felt like I was reading a first draft with notes made to expound on a few things. Some paragraphs were literally just 2 sentences and that made me so annoyed. There were also grammatical errors and missing words from sentences. In the example of what Joon witnessed with one of his men Wu Jin, I believe his name was. The sentence read, “he took the sword and ran” (not a verbatim quote. However, it was supposed to tell us that he actually ran the sword through his stomach, but an entire word or flow of words were missing and I wanted to scream. It felt like author was in a rush to put this one out, which, I don’t mind, because I really enjoyed the first 2 books and loved that this book came so quickly. (Waited under a year) but it could have benefitted from some serious proof reading. Fortunately, because I loved the main leads, not even the grammar or missing words was enough to put me off from reading till the end.

Speaking of the leads- their interaction felt so OFF this book. The chemistry between them was leaping off the page in the prior books. Not this one. I got that they loved each other, but I felt as though I only got that because I was told they loved each other. Constantly. By the author. I was shown they loved each other in the other books with the small gestures. They gifts, the planning. This book- I still loved them, but that’s because of the residual love that carries over from their prior books. I enjoyed Amir and Amoli’s interactions more than Serenity and Kang’s 🫢 also, a lot they both did grated my nerves! The fighting, the plotting behind each other’s backs thinking it was for the good of the other, DESPITE that being what had them in the situation in the first place. It got old REALLY FAST.

Do I still love me some Serenity and Kang? You bet your sweet biscuits I do! But by God, they were the LEAST interesting couple to read about this instalment. I kept hoping Rielle would hurry and travel to Xian through the portal and be with Joon already. I hope this is what happens! I did enjoy Ariel’s and liked that she brought balance and humour to Serenity’s depressed, emotional persona. I also very much liked the family. Especially Levi. Levi was funny. I laughed everytime he said something. He has good jokes. It was good that author didn’t make the family instantly love Kang or believe Serenity because, in reality, who would? Not me! So I enjoyed that. I also enjoyed reading about the politics of the council. Those power hungry bastards.

While I do like the idea of “something that ties our world together” aka the plant that grows in both, I feel like it’s such a cop out to have the portal be opened for Serenity or friends and family to be able to come and go between worlds as possible. It feels like there’s nothing at stake. Pick a side (world) and stay there. No backsies! I hope author doesn’t let this happen. Just let her (and Rielle because I want my girl to have a happy ending with Joon who is in love with her which is a whole other story- that I love! I know it’s messed up, but I also like Joon and would want him with Serenity as well. However, she’s already got Kang, so Joon better get Rielle. Lol) return to Xian and have her STAY THERE. Let there be a sacrifice! Hell, her whole family can go with her if it means there will be no back and forth travelling.

Look, I love a good war, but I’m getting so sick to death of them not actually fighting Katsuo himself. If they don’t fight and finally bring peace to Xian in the last book, I will tear my hair out!!!! Let it end already!

Was this a good book? Yes! Was it a great book? No! Can it be improved? Definitely. Don’t make the leads that as wishy washy as they were in this book-please. They are not those kinds of people and that is why we love them. Return them to their former glory and wrap up the Katsuo battle already.

Thank you for coming to my Tedtalk.

get an editor please

This is such a good story but the spelling and grammar mistakes are awful enough to just yank you right out of the story. The first two books were good. If this is what you put out then I may not read the fourth. Please update this book with at least a qualified pre-reader and editor.

Ugh seriously? There's going to be another book??? It was supposed to be a trilogy. All the back and forth between the 2 MCs has me hella annoyed. And the plot to the next book is so stupid and ridiculous, considering the situation. Wth.

Spending Time In Serenity's World

*****Spoilers*****

I hoped this one would be the conclusion of the series but no. Serenity is back home and alive but sick from the poison in the blade she was stabbed with. Missing Kang-Dae and regretting her decision to go back home, they're reunited when Kang-Dae follows her through the lake. By the end of the book, they're trying to purposefully figure out how to get back and forth between their worlds safely. Serenity is pregnant but hasn't had the opportunity to tell Kang-Dae who turned to his kingdom and is fighting to keep it from falling to their enemy. I was impatient for the book to get back to Serenity and Kang-Dae so didn't appreciate too much the book from the perspectives of the other characters in the kingdom. Serenity's family, particularly her brother made me laugh a couple of times but to say they don't trust Kang-Dae in the beginning is an understatement.

More grammar, spelling, and word choice errors in this one. Since the next book isn't ready I think this is where I'll end my fascination with the story and not continue to the next.

The King comes to a modern world

I really couldn't remember every detail that happened in the last books. I'll say somethings could have told a better story and some common sense. Like giving Kang-Dae a wet suit lol Serenity wasn't annoying & the story could've been better fleshed out because there would be no way regular folks would accept the explanation of Serenity and Kang-Dae's story so easily. Give me a struggle and make it more believable that her parents and family struggled. I see another romance brewing, 3 honestly but we'll see. I hope it doesn't take a while for this next book to come out.

Role reversal

In this installment of the series, there's a little turnaround of roles when it comes to thinking about a person going back to their home dimension. Using Rielle's help, they're trying to figure out the passage between their worlds and if going back and forth can be accomplished. Things in Xian are coming to a head, and folks greed for power is shoeing it's ugly head

This one is good, action-packed, but a heavier focus on the side characters, which I enjoyed. It also gets heavier in the politics and war, and there's family drama (and her loved ones were pissing me off, minus bestie Rielle). I didn't enjoy that as much. The second book made me have to get through this one quickly, and see them reunite which was satisfying. Still, less romance and tension in this one. Thus 1 star off total, but like I said, still good. Excited for the 4th.

Way better

I read the first two books. Although they badly needed editing, I still read them because of the great storytelling. Consequently I was hesitant to read the 3rd book and waited until my vacation to read it. This one is soooo much better. Great editing to polish off great storytelling. I am looking forward to book 4.

I thought this was the last book. kind of dragged on.

Kang-Dae said he’s going to get his woman back! I also feel like a whole lot of nothing happened. Like so much happened but not a lot. Like the good didn’t get going until 88%. How did her dad start to believe? I knew that dropped bomb since the beginning.

The breaks weren’t in this book like they were in the second.

SO GOOD!

I’m eating this series up. I’ve been hooked since the very beginning and I’m so impressed with this author’s work. This series is how I was introduced to this author’s writing and just from this series alone, LS Bethel has been added to my 1-click authors list. I’m truly in love with this story.

Love this series

Ok, so I have been hooked since the first book. I love that the lead character is a smart capable woman.

I appreciate that the book is not vulgar and well written.

Start with the first book.

Good

I like the series. Thought this would have been the last book but not. I mean the story is different and cool but very slow. I love the H, Levi and rielle. Serenity is a different story. I hope next book is the last book because regardless I’m getting off.

A Wonderful Romantic Relationship

I found that book 1 was a story that hook the reader of characters being from different locations completely. But the strong love have tie that can travel long ways when separated. I can't wait to move on to book 2.

Okay, I’m Tired!

Unfortunately, it’s starting to get boring and redundant. I’m really like, enough already! I’m going to read book 4 just to finish the series but I’m definitely tired of going around in circles with this couple. They are never happy, be it in his world or hers.

I could relate to them as a couple with the struggles they faced, even though they are from different worlds. I enjoyed reading how they were eventually able to face some of those struggles together. ❤️❤️

It was really good. I waited a long time for this book only to be told that it's a part four. Other than that it was action packed .

😏🙄🤨

This series has a true potential of being a great series! However, at first it is announced as a three book series and yet; here I am at the end of book 3 and another cliffhanger! No Bueno! Needless to say I am not a happy camper!
In addition to the above complaint, the editing is truly awful… In fact I think a chapter or so was pulled out in between leaving out details such as the Duke and the seal and the letter.
I truly hope book 4 comes out really quickly or else I’m going to have to drop the series!!! 🥺😖
With past series, I did not mind going back to reread from book one when the next edition came out. But, unless the first three books are revised and truly edited, I can’t put myself through that pain again!!! Jus sayin!!! 😱😱😱
