In the realm of Ishreedin, humans and elves have a deep animosity for each other that spans centuries. Though fragile peace now exists through a treaty, fate is not often kind to those caught in the middle. Born of a secret marriage between the human King and the elven Princess, five half-elven daughters understand— better than anyone— that their fate was signed away long before they were born.
After their mother mysteriously disappears, the sisters find themselves at the center of a millennia-old curse, which becomes the catalyst for a whirlwind of events that will throw the five sisters into unknown adventures. Their destinies now hang on the decisions they make while discovering themselves in ways no one knew possible.
Camille Bateman Haight, was born and raised in Sandy Utah. She was born seventh in a family with eleven children. Growing up in a loving home she was taught strong principals. Among those lessons was first a love of God, second, a love for family, and third, a love for stories.
Her father helped her mother learn to read after they were married. Together they taught their children the value of a good book and the hidden worlds between the pages.
Now as a mother of five girls, Camille passes those lessons to her own children. With a BA in communications, she found a way to turn her love of reading into a love for writing and hopes the messages hidden in those pages can inspire others.
Having settled in Utah County with her family, Camille spends her extra time bringing new characters to life.
Camille believes, a good story can lead us out of our darkest places. It should pull at you from within, challenge you to think, and bring forth a bond between you and the characters. The characters must be more than just names on a page. They should be your best friend or your most hated foe. A good story will make you laugh out loud or have tears slipping down your cheeks. It should feel real and engage you on every level.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ 💫 Dragon Touched: The Awakening by C.B. Haight
This book, y’all. I have so many thoughts, so buckle in cause it’s gonna be a long one. In my original Amazon review a year ago, I gave it four stars, and in my reread I felt like it was a three, so I’m splitting the difference and putting my official rating down as 3.5 😅
Plot and Characters: Feylynn and Rhushawn are the best characters. Hands down. I love every second of them. Ahanna is unfortunately the most boring character for me, and she gets most of the screen time. I found myself wanting to skim some of the chapters with the other sisters, but overall the plot and pacing were fine.
Writing: The writing in general is fine. There was something about it that bothered me on my first read-through and I couldn’t quite figure out what it was until I did a reread. It doesn’t feel like there’s a lot of personality with the writing. Especially in the dialogue. Everything feels like it’s trying too hard to be perfect, and I get that people talked more formally in medieval times, but it just really stuck out to me and bothered me how perfectly these characters were speaking. Especially when they’re twelve and fourteen years old. Haight also tends to be quite wordy, and there are sections where there will be multiple pages of prose with no dialogue, and my eyes tend to glaze over a bit during those passages.
Technical complaints: This feels like an indie pub book. There are a lot of things with the formatting that don’t quite jive/fit industry standards. I’m a professional editor and formatter, so I definitely notice things other people don’t, and that may not be an issue for you. You can also tell that it wasn’t professionally edited, and there are a lot of typos and grammatical errors that stick out like a sore thumb.
Conclusion: All in all though, this is a super enjoyable read. Despite all my complaints, I do actually really enjoy this book. I read it in less than twelve hours yesterday, so that’ll tell you how invested I was 😅 would recommend to anyone looking for a new YA fantasy book to sink their teeth into. Looking forward to reading book two this weekend!
This is one of the best books I've read in my life. I love the dynamics between the sisters, and I enjoyed the character growth and development we saw in Ahanna. The story is one of the most interesting things I've seen, and I cannot wait to read the next book! I was on the edge of my seat reading the last chapter. Once again, it is one of the best books I've read in my life.
