‘Whispers In the Dark’ is a collection of poetry designed to make one uncomfortable. To face what we run away from or consider to be taboo within the fabric of the society we live in. It’s a bouquet of thorns to pierce through the haze of security and pretense that we wrap ourselves with, forcing us to live through the raw pain of harsh truths.
From forbidden love to lustful longings, from demonic influences to mental illnesses and stark societal realities, this short book carries whispers that are uttered from the soul – agonized, angry and ugly- and find solace only within the darkness for often, the light is too much to bear.
Whispers in the dark by Chitra Anand quite literally does justice to its title I must say that was a clever pick! It consists of cute little illustrations here and there, The poetries have brief length as far as I am concerned it wasn't too short it wasn't too long, also I could really notice the different kinds of poetic techniques the author has tried to experiment with, be it with the rhyming scheme being abstract or be it in the rhythm. What I really appreciate about the whole venture though is the raw vulnerability of emotions portrayed in plain sight to it's readers.
As humans we often lie to one another and sometimes, that another is no one else but ourselves. And when that happens, it means we are either too scared of embarrassed of what we are feeling at the moment. The book talks of love, relationships, a break, lust and longing but when looked at from a higher perspective I would say the author is trying to traverse the uncharted territory of vulnerability and taboo which has often been something labelled by our beloved society!
Here's a snippet of my favourite part.
"Resigned to an endless silent forever They longingly look down at us who longingly look back at them They yearn for the fingers lacing ours Hands encircling our waist For laughter, melodies and conversations" ---- The Stars Weep
Chitra Padmana is a great poet and must be appreciated for authoring the book Whispers In The Dark. This book is a a collection of poems. The poetries within touch the heart deeply.
I would like to mention two of my favourite poems from the book. They are as follows:
Noisy Silence " Crunching knuckles Breathing in and out Maddening stillness Eerie hushes around Deathly rattle on a loop With a tick and a tock No airy whirring is respite As leaks drip and drop."
Love? "This love, where you make me your goddess and worship me ardently and then topple me off the pedestal with a sneer that ices over my breast."
The poet is an artist and the art in the form of poems are just mesmerizing. Readers will find the urge to face all that they have been running away from via the poems within the book.
Must say, the book is a reflection to human emotions as well as the society we live in. I would recommend this book for poetry lovers.
Explaining your pain and happiness is always easy but describing your feelings which makes you uncomfortable is damn difficult but when an author like Chitra Padmana decides to do it then it does magic.
Whisper in the dark is a collection of poems which revolves around feelings, victory, loneliness, panic and many such strong emotions which gives you ultimate wings or sometimes the darkness for life.
The emotions behind every poem are so strong that it will definitely shake you from inside. To face society, to face criticism is what every poem will tell you about. It also firms your self-esteem and confidence. You will definitely recall the most embarrassing moments of your life and a line of smile will appear on your lips.
This book is recommended to all (even the ones who have not read the poems could definitely relate to it and will enjoy it thoroughly).

Review
My favorite poem from the collection was DAMN YOU DEVIL
"But damn you, Devil Go back to Hell For to him, not to you Will I finally sell My soul, my body And all of my desire He can take, he can taste The salt of my fire
The flames shall fly Up in the sky You'd damn us, Devil You'd have nothing to sell For we'd be together And we'd burn your Hell"
Anyway back to the review I loved the way each poem was executed from the get go! The rhyme scheme, the rhythm of it is so captivating. The topics that the poems are about makes the reader relate to it and the way the author has used metaphor, oxymoron and hyperboles used are very well placed and makes the reader want to just cozy up with a hot cuppa. A short read but not a light one because it deals with a bit of reality.

I started reading Whispers In The Dark and hadn't been able to keep it away until I finished reading the very last page at 1 am.
With every passing poem that I read, my mind was just going bonkers over how Chitra has penned down each word with sheer brilliance. This book is amazing, to say the least, and you definitely have to get this! Every poem tugged at some or the other string in my heart and the tunes that played after brought out myriad emotions in me. I'm in love with Chitra Padmana's writing and creativity!!
"This love, where you make me your goddess and worship me ardently and then topple me off the pedestal with a sneer that ices over my breast."
Yes.. the poems are so soothing. I really love to read poems and this never made me dissapointed. The title was too apt to the collection. I felt the whole poetry as the whispers of myself from a part of life with a restricted entry to others.
An amazing twirling ride from start to end. A must read for all the people in deep dark love. The hold of words and feeling expressed is fantastic. Firm hold in the feeling and And read..Must read for all the feeling in love.
The lines goes like a smooth swing in the clouds. The feeling can easily be understood and can give you goosebumps.
Poems were not my taste but I loved some poetries and have some, which I keep close to my heart. And now there comes a new special one "The Whispers in the Dark".
One of my concerns was that, the poems end too soon. I wanted to wander in that world with the poet like an Alice in Wonderland.
Expecting more more poems and writings from Chitra Ma'am.
This is was soulful poetry I read this days. I was seeing my life at some verses, as if I was holding a mirror. The author was indeed writing from within. This was indeed a work of grace. Regarding the language, I am not saying anything rather one must feel it.
