I quite enjoyed these stories. Written at an intermediate level, they are challenging to read but presented in bite sized servings. You can sit down for 15 minutes to an hour and feel yourself understanding the language more and more. I really liked having the translated paragraph follow each Spanish paragraph. That makes following the story easy and gives instant feedback about your comprehension. This is an enjoyable way for someone who feels comfortable, but not too fluent improve their skills. The stories are fun and the text not too simple, which is often the case in other language books. A good review and a good learning experience. And fun.
The book consists of short stories in which one paragraph is shown in Spanish and the next in English, which makes it easy to quickly confirm that you have understood the Spanish correctly. At the end of each story, a short summary is included in English, followed by vocabulary words and conjugated verbs used in the story. I can open the book and read just a few paragraphs or an entire story, though I find it more useful to absorb it in small chunks.
This book has the best format for learning Spanish that I have ever seen: a simple Spanish paragraph, followed by the same in English. It's a compelling way to learn, in which you can read the Spanish and see what you understand and then quickly check your accuracy. Unfortunately, the stories themselves were completely banal. Had they been mature, compelling stories, presented in this format, the book would have been amazing.
This book was nicely done. I am at an A2 level, and this book was a struggle. Not impossible, just pretty slow going for me. I felt like it was an advanced beginner book for sure.
