Love You, Maine #1

Love You Right

Rate this book
A missed opportunity five years ago makes for an unexpected encounter now between two people meant for each other – but who square off in a very public battle of wills in the small town of Love You, Maine, where every day is Valentine's Day. Can love conquer all in a town steeped in it?

Kell Luview refuses to be a sucker at love again. Five years ago, he left D.C. with his pride wounded and his heart broken. Fiercely protective of his small town in rural Maine, he's determined to save the family tree business and avoid his feelings at all costs, no matter how much he longs to solve the mystery of what happened in D.C.

L.A. native Rachel Hart hates being underestimated almost as much as she hates this small town. She has two goals on this trip: get out of the cheesy tourist trap of Love You, Maine with a completed business deal, and avoid running into Kell, her old friend from D.C. who never became an old flame because of a huge misunderstanding.

One that still aches.

When her rental car breaks down on a logging road and Kell comes to her rescue, it's clear he's a changed man – and not for the good. Grumpy and reserved, he pushes all her buttons, still stubbornly convinced she betrayed him all those years ago. He's never forgiven her, and she's never forgiven herself for carrying a torch for him.

An embarrassing incident gets the town gossip mill going when residents wrongly assume Kell and Rachel are the newest couple to find love in the most romantic place on Earth. But the townsfolk aren't wrong for long...

As Rachel breaks through his defenses and charms the town, he faces his biggest fear: all those pesky feelings he's been avoiding.

Because they're all about Rachel now.

And maybe they always were.

Can Kell and Rachel fight their growing attraction in the one place in the world where you can't avoid love?

If you're looking for a fun read about enemies to lovers, forced proximity, heroines who get their comeuppance and sworn bachelors felled by unexpected true love, featuring a hot bearded lumberjack impervious to poison ivy, and a city-slicker, jaded career woman with a penchant for great coffee, set in a small town in New England - then this is your book.

Grab a cup of (properly good) coffee, a can of hot cocoa mix, a jar of Fluff and maybe some calamine lotion (just in case), and get your happymeter ready as you read the very first book in New York Times bestselling romantic comedy author Julia Kent's Love You, Maine series - where love isn't just a feeling - it's a way of life.

She’s done it again, this time with a quirky, inviting, small New England town where love is the answer to everything. This crafty storyteller has created a fictional world so charming and delightful I’d give anything to visit it in real life. In Love You, Maine, every day is Valentine's Day with festivals all year long that celebrate love.

Kell Luview and Rachel Hart have a history (see the prequel, Love You Wrong). They left things on the worst note possible five years ago when Kell moved back home and Rachel left for a job in Los Angeles. But Rachel is back in Kell's orbit, tasked with buying a local business for her big business conglomerate boss to add to their numerous acquisitions.

Kell has a successful business getting rid of poison ivy. Not just anyone would do this job, and Kell prides himself on performing a valuable service. That, and helping his father with the family tree removal business keeps Kell busy and his mind focused on the present. Rachel Hart showing up in his town brings back all the reasons he returned to Maine, and all the bad feelings and wounded pride associated with it. But Fate has her own plan, and sometimes the one we don’t want is the one who suits us perfectly.

While Rachel Hart put the misunderstanding with Kell behind her, she still misses her best friend. But the grouchy, stubborn, infuriating mountain man rescuing her from her stranded car has little resemblance to the guy she once knew. Her plan is to avoid this version of her ex-friend and close the deal so she can keep her job. But small-town charm and loving acceptance have a way of stealing the heart of a girl who feels like she has no place, and no one, she belongs to.

Kent kicks the comedy into high hear with colorful townsfolk, a misguided randy moose, and the coolest cat on the planet, Calamine, the Main Coon Cat. She then masterfully manipulates heartstrings with a town working tirelessly together when one of their own is in need, and a complicated, bumpy road to forever full of forgiveness, acceptance, and second chances. Equally hilarious and heartfelt, with a little heat added in, this funny, touching, feel-good read will be one of your very best romantic comedy reads this year! Run. 1-Click. Read. You can thank me later.

Kell and Rachel were friends and then enemies. At least that’s what he thought. When they next run into each other, it’s five years later and each has changed, but the hurt from the past continues. So does the attraction that manifested itself in that almost kiss.
Second chances, a randy Moose named Randy, lots of
Chocolate, and town where Valentine’s is 24/7/365 all make for a truly wonderful romance.

Am I reading the same book as all the other reviewers?!?! I really, really hate this book I have been trying to get through it for over 3 weeks still only at about 60%, I am from NH and this book takes place in Maine, first of all if you are from the NE you know that this book is absolutely ridiculous! The opening scene they some how (still trying to figure out how) get themselves superglued together and have to ride to the hospital with her straddling him. In my mind I can’t even make this work. Then she discovers his Maine Coon cat in his truck and he says the cat is always with him. I’ve got news for you when it’s cold here there is no way a cat could survive in your truck all day while your working. Then there’s a snowstorm (a northeaster) and the next day the have a campfire outside her trailer, again if you’re from around here you know that doesn’t work. (Oh and by the way when he shows up she comes screaming outside in nothing but a towel because there’s a squirrel in her bathroom)

Then in another chapter he’s outside pulling poison ivy and she gets some on her so he throws her into the hot springs? I could go on and on about how ridiculous this whole thing is but I’m still trying to get through it! The last 10 or so books I’ve read have been awful so I refuse to DNF this book but my God it’s awful and don’t get me started on the MCs! Hate, Hate, Hate them.

Needless to say I will NOT be reading the others in this series and I do NOT recommend! :(

This book was so good! Reason I say this is because I rarely cry from reading books , but Ms. Kent brought me to that point. My heart was breaking for Rachael. There were many laugh out loud moments. Kell was such an a#$ to her many times, despite fighting feelings for her. There are memorable and funny side characters. If rom- coms are for you then read this book!

I love the characters in this new series. The small town warm and love of their way of life is embracing. Ms. Kent knows how to deliver romance with crazy humour. Rachael and Kell have a past that did not end well. This is a chance for them to find out if there is a future for them as a couple. Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton are well paired as the voices for these characters.

Why is this not a tv series? I’m obsessed with this cozy New England town and Julia Kent’s hilarious writing. Randy the “randy” moose, superglued together? Hilarious! Highly recommend this series! I can’t wait to read more!

This is Love You Right, book one of the fresh new series Love You, Maine written by Julia Kent. Ms Kent is known for writing hilarious romantic comedies with the most insane circumstances. You will learn quickly as you LOL at this one. Rachel is in the town to handle some company business when she runs into Kell Luview, who is forced to reluctantly rescue her. You will be rooting for them as you watch them butt heads over and over. This book had me laughing from the very beginning with only some super glue and a long ride into town. I'm so excited to meet all of the folks in the town of Luview Maine and I'm dying to read Luke's story!

I loved the way she started this book 5 years after Love You Wrong!! Kell and Rachel started a friendship (with something more brewing) in Washington DC. Kell had his trust broken and returned home in Love you, Maine. That’s where they meet up again when Rachel is sent out there for business. It’s a fun ride while they are getting to know each other again.

Book one on the new Love You, Maine Series and if Kell Luview and Rachel Hart’s entertaining story is anything to go by, Ms Kent will certainly have another hit series on her hands.
Kell and Rachel have a history, in fact they were once good friends but that ended a few years ago so imagine the shock when Kell finds out the woman he is rescuing is his ex friend from years ago. What follows is an entertaining, fun tale that full of love, humour as well as lots of miss communications.
If you love small town romances you will love the town of Luview “Love You” Maine, it’s full of quirky characters you can’t get enough off, if you love friends to enemies to lovers romance you will love this book so this story really has something for everyone. A fun, entertaining read with wonderful characters that ticked all my boxes.

Holy moose, LOL, Julia Kent you are wicked smart with words, feelings, emotions, Rachel and Kell have history, some good but mostly bad because of jumping to conclusions, meeting again five years later it's all still there, the history, the hurt, the friendship, the hate, the chemistry, and deep inside the love, rich in chocolate history and everything Valentine's day, will they be able to talk to each other, to reconnect and right preconceived mistakes, I loved this book and look forward to the rest of the series, I have voluntarily read and review this ARC, thank you for the privilege, Dana Zamora

Such a fun small town rom com.
I listened to the audio thru Audible. Erin Mallon and Teddy Hamilton narrate.
This is 3rd person POV. It took me a while to notice! I liked it. This worked out well, since there's so many characters. There's a lot of dialogue. Witty banter. Second chance romance.
Frenemies to lovers.
Rachel is the big city girl that comes to Luview "Love You" Maine.
Grumpy/Sunshine.... It's mostly Kell, but Rachel has her moments too. She's stressing about her job.
Luview may be a small town but the residents know what's going on.
This might be called a slow burn, but there's a lot of focus on why Rachel comes to town. And there are a lot of supporting characters. This is a series, and I'm so ready for more.
Great job Julia, Erin and Teddy.

First of all, Maine is one of my favorite places so the fact that it was set there is a huge plus. I could picture how beautiful if was as I read. then we have Then we have Kell and Rachel. They were best friends and perhaps it could have eventually become more while they were working in Washington DC, until hurricane Allisa blows through. A huge misunderstanding makes these two enemies. Several years later Rachel ends up in their Valentines Day everyday town right around the biggest holiday there. Can she survive the Maine winter storms, her unique "b&b" , a horny moose and Kell's broken heart to find her happily ever after. You will laugh out loud with this slow burn story.

This is a world I want to live it. A town that surrounds itself in love? I'm in. I'm a small town girl and love small town ambiance. Of course, Julia Kent brings us some over the top town issues but that's what I love about her writing. Always funny, always romantic (sometimes not in a way you'd expect), a bit of chaos (okay maybe more than a bit), some amazing characters all over town (including some of the wildlife), beautiful, descriptive locations and a main characters who have some truly amazing chemistry, even when they can't admit it to themselves. I would absolutely read the prequel, Love You Wrong, as it will give you much insight into the main characters and why they are and act the way they do. The world building is amazing and allows you to actually envision what this town looks like. The supporting characters are all just as amazing as the main characters and I have a feeling that this world can go on for quite some time. Watching Rachel and Kell grow and drop their defenses was a worthwhile journey all on its own.

Pięć lat po wydarzeniach w Washington D.C., opisanych w prequelu, Rachel Hart, po studiach MBA na uniwersytecie Stanforda, pracuje dla międzynarodowej korporacji czekoladowej Markstone’s. Kell Luview, w swoim rodzinnym Love You w stanie Maine, pomaga ojcu w opiece nad okolicznym drzewostanem oraz ma swoją firmę, o ciekawej nazwie Pulling for You, która bez użycia chemii walczy z prawdziwą plagą Maine, czyli z trującym bluszczem.

Rozgoryczona Rachel w dość długiej tyradzie niezwykle trafnie go podsumowuje.

Ale cóż, wymogi happily ever after obowiązują. Zresztą w Love You, Maine nie mogłoby być inaczej, podobnie jak, nie przymierzając, na przykład w Małej Przytulnej.

I cannot understand how this book can be this highly rated on Goodreads. I am not reading romance for the realism, so I am not even going to talk about temperatures and snowstorms and running around half naked outside in these conditions. Those are the least of the issues that I have with this book.

But seriously, the MCs? So childish and annoying. And what was there to find funny? The dialogue isn't witty, the jokes and puns are so corny, and the situations these people find themselves in are so ridiculous and unbelievable that they are completely unfunny.

The first (and very cringeworthy) scene of the book goes on and on and on, takes up more than 10% of the book, and it took me days to get through it. I was very close to DNF but I hate doing that, so I forced myself to pick it up again every day.

I am giving it two stars because it got a bit better after those two scenes in the beginning that were apparently supposed to be hilarious but ended up being the worst part of the book. I liked the town and the people and their ways but the author's writing style just isn't for me. The book was much too long, a lot of stuff could have been cut, and the book would have been better for it.

It was all fluffy and superficial, the characters were very one-dimensional, and I hate miscommunication as a trope anyway but the male MC stubbornly refusing to talk about anything after five years of misery because of miscommunication was just too much for me.

Yikes, that was awful. Klutzy, loud-mouthed heroine who gets herself into increasingly ridiculous situations she has to be rescued from. Hero who has virtually no redeeming qualities. The kind of nauseatingly ridiculous small town that doesn’t exist outside of romance novels and hallmark movies. I’m only giving it two stars for a single scene where the heroine stands up and says I deserve better than this. So do the readers.

M/F Second chance romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Rachel is feeling like a failure at life recently. Now, on her next assignment, she knows that it’s do or die time. Her job depends on this next assignment. When she finds herself in a quaint town that absolutely loves Valentine’s Day, she has to make sure that she can leave with her heart.

Kell is a surly man who has let his past run his future. Even though he loves his job, he knows that he helps his dad a lot with the family business too and isn’t really able to see well into his future to see how he can do both. His business is thriving, but he can’t seem to let go and do what needs to be done.

These two have a history that never is really explained well. It lacked a cohesiveness and just felt like I came into the story in the middle of an argument and didn’t now who’s side to take. The characters were OK, but in all honesty, I loved Kell’s mom more than the main characters.

The main characters felt a little YA for my taste of what this story was supposed to be about. I think that’s why I didn’t connect as well to this story. It had great potential, it just didn’t fit my particular taste for what I was expecting.

At first I thought this book wasn't going to be my thing. The first chapter had descriptions of things that sounded weird to me. Rachel seemed way over the top & LoveYou Mane seemed like a very Cheesy name for a place. I then changed my mind very quickly about the book & absolutely loved It. There were definitely very funny moments in this book. The place sounded a bit cheesy, but the descriptions of a Small Town place where everyone seemed to know everyone's business & you had an identity with the community's people were lovely. I love books about love, relationship, embarrasing moments make things more interesting & Cal & Rachel had a whirlwind of a relationship, going from ice cold: meeting in the snow after five years to building up a very fast passion that both of them couldn't deny. A feel good book that you can creep into & there are moments that really warm your heart. I love Small Town books as Its about hurts that learn to forgive, people who dislike at first, but then learn to trust & see people for who they really are, people who gossip but people who at the end truely love & care about the wealthfare of each other.

I read this newest spinning, hilarious romance, nice and slow, as I did not want it to end. Laughed, giggled and laughed more. Then, wham! Hit the heart of the story, who to trust and can forgiveness be had with out the trust? As always, no disappointment here, Julia Kent has knocked another book (or, perhaps red chocolate hearts) out of the moose infested woods. Lol. If you have not read the prequel “Love You Wrong” do so now, the price is nonexistent, and grab this new one. You will never look at a moose the same again.

Sweet, quirky and full of love, Love You Right is a delightful read.

If you've read any of Julia's previous book, you'll know she is the queen of awkward and cringey yet somehow hilarious moments, and this book is true to form. With great characters, a lot of feels, some truly out there moments and a delicious slow burn, Kell and Rachel's story is a tale of friendship, family, love and loyalty with a sugary backdrop of the cheesiest, most love obsessed little town that makes you wish you could visit and is sure to have you falling in love.

I loved Kell and Rachel as BFFs in LOVE YOU WRONG and hoped that they would get together, but the betrayal Kell felt is something a person may never get over.

It has been five years since Rachel has seen Kell, and now she is headed to his hometown to try to get the chocolate company to sell. She hopes that she doesn't run into him, that would make things so bad for them both. So when her car breaks down, he is the last person she wants to see.

Kell never thought he would see Rachel again but when her car breaks down on a backwoods mountain road, he has to rescue her and the antics begin.

These two got into some sticky situations (pun intended) that all of Love You, Maine knew about in a very short time. The gossip in town can spread quicker than a wildfire. That made this story, and their antics, laugh out loud funny at times. Then you were in tears other times in the story. And don't forget that you have to wear red, white, or pink, or you get pinched.

I have read a few other stories from this author and I am really loving this series and can't wait for more.

Love You Right is the continued story of Kell and Rachel back in Kell's hometown of Luview "Love You", Maine, where every day is Valentine's Day and no one is a stranger. You can read the free prequel Love You Wrong, to find out the history of this couple.

Kell has been home for five years, sadder but wiser, for his falling for business politics as being genuine people who cared about him. He knows better now. He helps get his father back in good health and helps run the tree business. He has also started a side business pulling poison ivy professionally that is really taking off.

Rachel has spent this time moving around jobs without a great fit anywhere. She is working for a national chocolate company now who wants to buy up smaller but successful venues and make them even more profitable. The last two small businesses she was in charge of closing the deal for fell through. Now they have their sites on Love You Chocolate in Luview "Love You" Maine and if she can't close the deal, she's out of a job.

Rachel's car breaks down before she even gets to Luview. Who should come along, but Kell. Except "Lumberjack" Kell and his flannels and long hair and long beard look nothing like her one time friend who was on the fast track in business and environmental policy in Washington D.C. He sure does recognize her though.

This enemies to lovers troupe will keep you laughing and crying as you cheer for the couple to finally figure out how much they are meant for each other. All of Love You, Maine is helping encourage them along. Come join this wonderful town, its quirky residents and animals and enjoy a lighthearted read that will leave you smiling.

Kell & Rachel meet up again by accident a few years after a major misunderstanding. Shortly after they meet, they end up getting stuck together - literally - & have to go to the ER to get unstuck.

“Welcome to Kell’s Amusement park...”

...

“Just get in my lap & let’s get it over with.”

“That’s what she said.”

Rachel ends up having to deal with Satan the squirrel, Godzilla & Mothra... It’s a regular zoo in Love You, Maine, where the wildlife ends up seeing Rachel without clothes... Where Randy the lovesick Moose tries to mate with her car... Where Kell tried to poison the town against her before her arrival (which now puts her career in jeopardy), but yet when she really is almost poisoned by touching his - uh - vine - he just then has to - uh - rub her - yes, rub her! - down...

She needs help with her work, while he’s just pulling - uh - weeds, & he’s in service of his - uh - of wood.

As Rachel & Kell end up getting to know each other again, they slowly become friends.

“No offense, Kell, but I’m a sure thing tonight. This lobster tail, though - the drawn butter is getting cold, & it needs my attention right now more than you do.”

I absolutely loved reading about how Kell had gotten ready for their date. After reading this, I realized how rare it is to read about someone getting ready for a date from a man’s point of view. Quite original!

Great book with lots of laughs. Love this new series, I can’t wait to read the next one!

I received this book as a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This book picks up five years after both Kell and Rachel were in D.C., now Rachel is in Maine for her job. Rachel is stuck in the snow, her rental car broken down, no phone service and not another vehicle in sight or so she thought. To her surprise a truck comes down the road and stops. Out gets a lumberjack, a grumpy looking lumberjack! That lumberjack turns out to be Kell- who is not happy to see Rachel. Things happen and they will make you laugh out loud. Rachel gets to what she thinks is a cabin she is staying in and it turns out to be a trailer, with a devilish squirrel and a randy moose named Randy! Kell and Rachel were friends, now enemies and Kell makes it clear that he has not forgiven her for what he believes she did while in D.C. Will Kell and Rachel make up and be friends again or more? Will Rachel be successful in obtaining the chocolate factory she is there to seal the deal for her boss? Will love bite Rachel and Kell in the town where everything is Valentine's Day with red, white and pink and most businesses have "Love You" in it's name. There is chemistry between them the question is can Kell forgive and forget? I enjoyed this first book in Julia Kent's new series and am looking forward to the next book. I wish to thank Julia Kent for the opportunity to read an ARC copy prior to its release.

A new series set in a quirky, lovey small town of Love You, Maine. How cute right? This is Kell Luview and Rachel's story. In my opinion, I think readers should grab the prequel, LOVE YOU WRONG and find out how they have their fall out. It will just make the story click and more enjoyable.

Rachel has always had a crush on Kell during her master's program, but circumstances and opportunities never presented itself, but they did have an awful parting of ways, which separated them from opposite sides of the country. Years pass, and even though she thought she would never see Kell again, she is in Love You, Maine for work, and definitely sees Kell. The guy is totally opposite of how he used to be.

I liked the story, the town is endearing, they're nosey, they're funny and will do anything to protect their townspeople. Its slowly growing on Rachel and so is her feelings for Kell. Will they work out in the end? Is she heading back to the city miles and miles away? Cute story

This book is all the best and worst about small towns. Everybody knows each other’s business, but they’re also all there to lend a hand when trouble strikes. This gives us some absolute comedy gold because Rachel and Kell are plagued by Murphy’s Law; if it can go wrong, it will. Much like the prequel, I adored Rachel and wanted so badly to hug her tight and promise it would all work out. Likewise, I pretty badly wanted to smack some sense into Kellan during some of his biggest jerk-like moments. I’m a sucker for a second chance and was desperately rooting for these two from the moment the book opened. They made me laugh. They made me want to tear my hair out. And they made me sigh the biggest happy sigh in the end. I hate that this book is over, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next in the series.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.

Wonderful Small Town Series!

Luview, Maine. Where the book store only sells romance. You must wear red, pink or white. Everything revolves around love. Seems cheesy from the outside, but once you meet the townsfolk you realize they are good people who watch out for each other.

Kell Luview (yes from the founding family) and Rachel meet when they are fellows at a DC think tank - and become good friends. A misunderstanding ensues, ruins the friendship and 5 years later they meet up in Maine.

We have hilarious circumstances, real problems, and small town values. Rampant moose and squirrel, and decisions on personal and business levels. This is already a terrific series, can’t wait to revisit this town as the series continues.

Five years after the events of Love you Wrong and Rachel is heading ro Luview on a work mission...until disaster strikes, in the best comedic style. As always, Julia Kent treats us to a sumptuous, warm, richly funny book which delivers laughs, confusion, insane situations, a town dedicated to all things love related and everybody else's business, while also highlighting the struggles inherent in a sense of injustice and harbouring hurts.
Kelly is so sweet and SO stubborn in his determination to hang on to his sense of betrayal. Rachel is just lovely. Funny, loyal, smart, organised, withbsuch a kind heart.
A fabulous book which has gone onto my favourites list. 💖💖💖💖💖
