Dark Dancer

Rate this book
Her people wanted a ruler. They may have created a monster.

For the Qurl race, being chosen as the next ruler could be a dream come true for the right girl. Or a nightmare for the wrong one. Instead of being given a crown, she must survive a wrenching physical metamorphosis. Unfortunately for Yitzen Tines, war is looming with a powerful adversary. Her people need a warrior, not an accomplished dancer. And certainly not her.

I love how this author has created such believable worldbuilding in this series. The first series, Dancer, showed Mikial Choran, becoming a Great Tasuria. Now Yitzen Tines has gone through the Change, and it nearly killed her. She has been chosen to replace Mikial when she dies.

How should you feel when your Ipper body (small for her sect) has now changed and you have a Datha body merging (very large for their sect) together? That's like a lion merging with an elephant. And to lose your ability to communicate through your ear fans now unless someone contacts you first. As a four-beat dancer, she held center stage. What does she know about war or being a leader of a country?

Yitzen doesn't want what she has become. She is now a Suria and Surias are meant to serve their people. And her Great Tasuria is using her as a pawn in a war. She needs to toughen up but her attitude gets her in so much trouble it helps to build her character and make her a better Suria.

To carry the weight of so much devastation caused by her including the death of her only brother takes a great mental toll. She can't face her parents or younger sister. She doesn't go home but remains a Dagger pilot killing those who tried to invade.

Every character is unique in their own right. Some you love and some you hate.

Great action. Great story. I recommend this series and the first series for great reading pleasure.

Wonderful! A new adventure with Qurls of the Dancer Series. Yitzen Tines is a joy when she dances and a terror when in battle. Well worth reading.
