A life changing event for me occurred at my college graduation in May of 2003.
National bestselling author, Karen E. Quinones Miller, was the keynote speaker. She delivered a speech about how she had written a book, self-published it and sold so many copies on her own that major publishing houses fought to offer her a deal. I sat amongst my graduating class fully alert and attentive. It was as if Karen was talking directly to me, telling me to bypass trying to get a job in advertising copywriting and follow my true passion of becoming an author.
I was unquestionably inspired and two months after graduation I began writing my first novel, Secret Society. Three months later I had a complete manuscript and was ready to move on to the next step.

I conjured up the nerve to email Karen and let her know that she had motivated me to pursue my goals of being a writer and that I had completed my first book. I asked her for tips on self-publishing. She simply told me to let self-publishing be my last resort and that I should first seek a publishing deal. I took her advice and researched the ways to go about submitting a manuscript. I sent a query letter, a synopsis, and the first three chapters of my book to Teri Woods Publishing. Teri Woods was known for publishing urban novels and thus I figured she would be interested in Secret Society. Teri Woods was not only interested, but wanted to buy my book outright and on top of that offer me a five-book deal. I was astonished. The only thing I had to do was write a second book to prove to Teri that I could produce.

I wrote Diary of a Mistress and shortly thereafter I was poised to go to New York to sign a deal with Teri Woods. I was excited and anxious, yet nervous. I was new to the publishing industry and I wasn't sure what the contract should look like, what type of deal was appropriate and most of all if selling my book outright was a smart thing to do. Once again, I conjured up the nerve to email Karen. That time she responded by telling me to call her and her telephone number was in the body of the email. She advised me not to sell my book outright and that I needed someone knowledgeable to attend the meeting with me. After realizing that her own schedule wouldn't permit her to accompany me, she took a chance and asked her agent to do so. Liza Dawson, Karen's agent, agreed to read my manuscripts over the weekend and let me know Monday whether or not she would be willing to represent me. I immediately emailed both manuscripts to Karen and Liza.

The next day I got a call from Liza telling me how good of a writer I was and offering to be my agent. I accepted and the next thing I knew, I had three major publishing houses interested in signing me. Teri Woods was notified of this and was asked for her bid. By Monday, an auction was held. Simon and Schuster was the highest bidder offering a six-figure advance and a two-book deal far exceeding my expectations as a new, unpublished author. I was in awe. Everything that has happened from then on has been a joyride. I am living my dreams and it is with thanks to Karen E. Quinones Miller. I often wonder what I would be doing or where I would be had it not been for Karen's speech those few years ago. There's no telling. But I know for sure that I am grateful that she told her story because it was truly the beginning of the success I enjoy today. Now, I feel it is my obligation to pass it on.

I am available to do speaking engagements and motivational talks at community centers, schools, group homes, prisons, outreach programs, shelters, etc. My goal is to reach as many people as I can and make a difference in the lives of others. I firmly believe To whom much is given, much is expected and indeed I have been given much.

My latest novel, which I'll admit kind of slipped under the radar....As many of you know, I was in a bad car crash and broke my jaw right around the time this book was to be promoted. On top of that I was expecting my second child and producing my first stage play, Secret Society, based on my debut novel. Needless to say I had so much on my plate that I was unable to give Chaser the attention it deserved....

But in spite of that....Chaser has gotten praise like none of my preceding novels... People called it my best book yet...Fans said they could see that I've grown as a writer...Readers were thrilled to get a glimpse into yet another underworld....And it was featured in Elle Magazine!!!

The great response I've gotten from Chaser has prompted me to do a re-release of the book....This way, I can have a launch party extravaganza like I've done with all my other novels, and give it the welcoming it so deserves....

Pick this one up and see what everybody is talking about.....Then let me know what you think!

Great characters and story. If I didn't have to work, sleep, eat, or feeds the kids, I could have read this in one sitting. My first read by this author, but certainly won't be the last!

Update: I’ve been thinking about this read and I’m going to give the book it’s fair due and up its star status🤩I just need a print version that’s all....

Umm I’m torn, really good story overall, but the writing is only fair, really good at times and other just kinda mediocre. And the narration is horrible....smh

How nice is it to be able to pick up a book and know, to really know, you'll love it? One of the very few authors I can do that with is Miasha. Miasha, along with Nikki Turner, were the first urban fiction authors I read when I found the genre and I've loved both since that time.
I knew I wouldn't be let down with Chaser and I wasn't. Miasha can do things with an everyday story that most authors just can't do.
In Chaser we read about Leah, Kenny and Nasir and I'm sure most people, especially urban fiction readers, can guess some of what happens just from the little I've said. Leah and Kenny are together and Leah falls for Nasir. Nasir is Kenny's boy and there is drama, drama, drama, behind all that.
It's simply amazing to me that Miasha can take a regular story and make it into what Chaser became. I can't wait for her next one to come out and I'll be buying it right away!

This was interesting listen. I don’t read much urban books, so I wasn’t ready for the events that happened.

I didn’t love it or hate it. I felt pretty neutral throughout the whole reading. So I don’t have much thoughts. Just that the ends did not indeed make the means. It was just like watching a movie that was just on cable.

A quote that’s stuck with me: “I truly did not want to cheat on my girl this day”

Chaser introduced Leah, Kenny and Nasir and the whirlwind of obstacles they had to face. Kenny was the dude always looking for a come up off of any scheme. I really didn't care for him and it was as if he expected Leah to do everything he suggested. Leah was so caught up with the materialistic stability Kenny provided that she lost her way. One get rich quick scheme changed everything for Leah. No matter how much things were in Leah's face she constantly made excuses for not leaving Kenny. I liked Nasir but didn't agree with how things went between him and Tara. Leah's lies caught up with her in no time. Even when she was telling the truth some things didn't seem believable. I understood the lengths Leah faced by helping Kenny, but I thought she should've explained things to Nasir before it got too out of hand. Kenny was seriously pissing me off. He wanted to constantly hold things over peoples head and feel in control. Just when I thought Leah would finally succeed she slipped up. I was glad in the end because things could've turned out a lot differently. They had their share of issues but by chasing after what they wanted Leah and Nasir were able to be free of the one person always looking to bring them down.

Caught Up

Over the past few years Leah’s relationship with her boyfriend, Kenny, has been crumbling. The one thing that she once admired about him, his ability to hustle and the lifestyle it provided, is now taking its toll. If it’s not one hustle, it’s another and his latest hustle involved Leah. It also involved her arrest. Sitting in jail definitely can change one’s perspective on things. Now realizing Kenny means her no good, she agrees to become an informant for the police. As the days pass and Kenny’s temperament only gets worse, Leah wonders if it’s all worth it. The only thing of late that brings a smile to her face is Nasir, Kenny’s friend. As Leah finds herself waist deep in deception, she doesn’t know which situation is more explosive – snitching on Kenny or cheating on Kenny. Either way, an explosion is impending.

“Chaser” is a satisfying read. The glimpse into the world of chasing was interesting. Miasha does a good job conveying Leah’s emotional turmoil as she struggled with her decisions and their consequences. I’d recommend “Chaser” to anyone looking for a quick and entertaining read.

OMG! This book is a page turner from the first sentence/paragraph! I'm new to Maisha but I'm totally going to read her again. Great story, plot and character development with lots of action throughout. Now for the reader: I couldn't figure out if sometimes she stumbled with words/sentences purposely or what. But as a former evaluator of audio books, this is totally a deal breaker. I can't imagine a director allowing this. However, in this case the author's work carried the production through. I'm so glad I can add Maisha to my list of favorite authors.

I actually enjoyed this novel. I was on a rollercoaster ride of fluctuating emotions; I felt anger, frustration, and sadness. Did I learn anything from this novel? Absolutely not, but who learns anything from street/urban lit? I finished the book in 2 days & I was completely entertained by Leah, Nasir, and Kenny - the three main characters. This novel isn't too different from Miasha'a others, but if you're looking for a well-written urban novella, then this is a great selection.

Good read, I like the way Leah and Nasir gave in to their attention for one another. Kenneth got what he deserved. He was ruthless from the beginning and very selfish. It took a realty check for Leah to realize she was being used by him and that he would use her to save himself at any coast.

I read this book years ago and decided to give it another go. I loved it this time as much as I loved it back then. Leah was so stupid in the beginning. Without giving any spoilers away she’s married to adult boy but I don’t being lawfully wedded I’m talking sees his wifey. And he starts to pull off and insurance scam. She gets arrested and becomes an informant. And she falls in love with an associate of his. Come along for the ride you won’t be disappointed

I loved this one given the white collar fraud attempts. For every criminal there will be a team tracking them down! The ending was typical, but I enjoyed reading this one.

𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘳 was an okay urban fiction novel.

Maybe I’m a little biased because modern urban fiction doesn’t hit like the 90’s and very early 2000’s.

Despite my rating and biases 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘳 was a quick listen to take my mind off of the things that were going on at the time.

Leah is the typical “good girl” character that ends up with the “bad boy.” However, Kenny is an over the top bad boy that seems to only care about Leah because she’s naive and he can do what he wants without much pushback. Kenny’s disregard for Leah, her love, and her loyalty to him are seen matter of factly from the very beginning of the book.

𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘳 is not a book that I would revisit, but it did what needed to be done in the moment, and I appreciate having something to take my mind away from my own problems, if only for a moment.

This book was only okay. It was pretty predictable. The biggest problem I had with it is that I listened to it on audio. I don't know if it's just the copy I had or if it was the actual narrator but there was a big problem. She kept skipping over words and repeating sentences and it seemed like she didn't know how to pronounce certain words. That took away from the whole feel of the story. But about the book....it was pretty much what I expected .... a predictable urban book. Girl has a dumb drug dealing boyfriend....she doesn't know how to get out, starts to cheat ... eventually finds a way to get out that of course has risks involved.

If you just want a simple book to read, then this is for you. It wasn't terrible by any means. This is what you read when you want a book to read that won't take too much work.

Horrible. One of the most predictable books I have read in a long time, no depth to the characters, and sadly, one of the dumbest female characters in any book I have read to date. This book was just a complete waste of time. There has to be more to a book than just grimy sex and a few scenes where someone gets shot. The plot has to go deeper than that or else what makes your book different from every other Urban book out there. It's like if you've read one, you have read them all.

In my honest opinion, this is my least favorite book of Miasha. It is not her normal page turning writing. The characters were not exciting and after much anticipating I will say this book left me wanting more. I did read the book in 2 days but it was in anticipating it would be like her other books.....

Dull and unbelievable story. Sure it's urban fiction but it's hard to believe most of the activities that happen. Not as engaging of a story as Diary of a Mistress but I'll give the author one more chance.
