She’s a woman on the run and desperate to avoid her hot, nosy detective neighbor.
Artist Savannah Cole has secrets. She can never stay anywhere too long or let anyone get too close. An obsessed stalker has her in his sights, and to protect her family, she can never go home, never share her art, and never fall in love. But when she plays her music a little too loud, she collides with her good-looking, inquisitive, and far-too-hot neighbor, Detective Hunter Morgan. A man who makes her want things she can never have.
After an injury ended his military career with Delta Force, Hunt Morgan found his place at the San Francisco Police Department. He may not have been there for the men of his team, but now he does his bit to keep his city safe. But his mysterious, new neighbor is disturbing his peace. One look at the beautiful blonde and Hunt knows she has secrets… When a spate of mysterious attacks threaten Savannah’s life, Hunt steps in. He’ll keep her safe and he’s not going to let her run again.
As Savannah’s stalker closes in, she finds herself with her own private protector. Even with his brothers and friends at Norcross Security at his back, she’s terrified he’ll become the next target. But Hunt isn’t afraid of her deadly stalker, because he knows the hardest challenge will be convincing Savannah to take the biggest risk and stay.

The Detective is the seventh book in the Norcross Security series and what a series it is. Sexy alpha men and women who protect what is theirs but don't think they deserve love. Finding that one person who brings them to their knees whilst fighting to protect them. There is action, power, angst, chemistry, intensity, suspense, mystery and so much more. Anna Hackett should be someone on your TBR pile because she is good at what she does.
1.5⭐ It's cringy in one word. Nothing unpredictable. I love reading stalker/romantic suspense and all but i didn't enjoy it. I just didn't feel it. We get it every single male is hot as sin here, they're hot and handsome buff nobody can take their eye off of them. Everyone is panty melting. NO NEED TO MENTION IT EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY APPEAR FFS. And boyyy do they just appear..... You'll feel like the loner of your high school if you don't read their book before. I didn't like how savannah had zero faith on those delta/military/medic/cop/detective you say it and she's surrounded by them. I didn't like her "oh I have to leave to protect them" vibe. It seemed stupid when every single character in this book is described as an alpha. Insta romance which I don't like but get by time to time. Here everything felt childish.

This was another wholesome romance in the series between a detective, hence the title and the stalked, running away, scared girlie in distress, not a damsel by any means but in distress nonetheless!! the butterflies, the chemistry between them, although it was a little insta lovey but we liked it.
Highly recommend the audiobook, because of course it was narrated by the Stella Bloom and the Teddy Hamilton!!
Book-specific: my most frustrating read of the series because it leans heavily into the damsel in distress and the FMC makes some really boneheaded moves, even if I give her a break for having a stalker as long as she did. Just ok overall.
Series review: I needed something to distract me from the blizzard that hit my hometown and this was perfect. I devoured the entire thing in the span of a week and a half. It’s a straightforward, romantic suspense series (think Kristen Ashley with less screwball comedy).
Each book goes like this: FMC is in danger, MMC steps in and says “you’re moving in with me until it’s over,” which means she’s never moving out and they’re falling in love, but one or both fight it a little, cue big dramatic moment where they realize life is short, HEA is triggered. The End. With lots o sex while in danger. This isn’t reinventing the wheel and I’m ok with that, though it’s also why I’m not rating this super high because it was predictable even if enjoyable. Also, ngl part of my need to tear through the series was to get to Vander’s book. In the end this whole series deals with certain tried and true - enemies to lovers, surprise pregnancy, even a bit of royal romance, but it’s the found family built and did I mean took the sex? Yeah that kept me coming back for more.
The plot was okay and got me intrigued, but for some reason, the story telling didn't appeal to me. I did find it hard to connect with the MCs, and I feel like something's missing in the story.
This could also be a me case, but this is less than 250 pages, and it took me longer than my usual speed to finish a book this short; it felt dragging and some parts fell flat.
Savannah has been on the run for four long years now because of her unhinged serial killer stalker. She never stayed longer than 6 months in a place and was always ready to leave whenever necessary.
Then she moved to San Francisco and has been a neighbor to Detective Hunter. They never crossed paths before, but after one night of pounding on her door to tell her to tone down her music, instant attraction kicked in for the both of them.
I really had a hard time getting invested in their romance because it came out of nowhere. After their first encounter, I think two days passed, and all of a sudden they were kissing, and I was so confused as to why. 😂 It was too fast and unconvincing; the chemistry and tension aren't palpable as well, maybe this is why I can't really get into their budding romance.
Also, Savannah pissed me most of the time. It was annoying to read time and time again how she blames herself for everything that's happening and how she has to leave to protect Hunter. The guy was an ex-delta force and could protect himself, and he kept asking her to trust him because he knows what he's doing, yet the stubborn FMC has to reason out all the time how going away would solve the problems her stalker caused.
Somewhere along the way, I just gave up on her. Although I did get where she was coming from, yet she keeps forgetting that she was surrounded by ex-army, ex-navy, and ex-delta force people who know how to handle this kind of situation. The naivety and stubbornness of Savannah were really frustrating. I keep asking, why can't she just let the professionals take care of her stalker situation and follow their plan instead of going rogue and putting herself in more danger?
I would like to say I enjoyed it, but I only felt that starting at 83%, when everything has calmed down and the threat has been contained. For the majority of the story, I was just reading it for the sake of getting it done and to be able to find out how the villain would get his ending.
Maybe this isn't just for me, and that's okay too. I'm sure there are readers out there who would appreciate it even more and would find this up their alley.
Book info: - Romantic suspense - Stalking - Serial killing - Physical assault - Insta-lust / insta-love - Detective - Painter - No cheating, opd, breakup - Non-virgin MCs - HFN (living together) - Bonus epilogue (6 mos later, engaged)
It was okay. Usual Anna Hackett heroine, that wants to save everyone, without any help!
Savannah is on the run from a violent stalker, when she meets her neighbour Detective Hunt. This is where the story lost me a bit. She’s on the run for her life, and she meets Hunt, when she’s blaring her music out so loud, that he has to go and complain. She doesn’t act like she’s terrified. She doesn’t keep to herself, quietly living her life, nooo she gives paintings to her neighbours, (As she’s an artist.) she knows all the neighbours and gets involved with their lives. When Hunt goes round to tell her off about the music, she drags him inside the house so she can carry on painting!! It just doesn’t add up to a woman living in fear for her life!!!
Then when it seems like her stalker has found her, she does the usual Anna Hackett heroine thing. She tries to run to keep Hunt, (An ex delta soldier detective, with Vander and Norcross security on his side.) safe from the madman??? Hmm a wee bit annoying!
Then there’s the fact that she’s supposed to be a graphic designer, and she never does any work on it. She’s always painting, when she can’t sell them as the stalker knows her work. How does she earn any money?
So the inevitable happens and they have to go in a safe house, and of course they have sex, lots of it. And of course they fall in love. I’m not sure how. As they never seem to sit and talk! If he’s not out working, they’re having sex or she’s painting! When do they ever just sit and talk?
It’s still a fairly good book. And I loved how Vander and Norcross security was all in for Hunt. It just didn’t make me want to read it again. And I have read the other Norcross books a few times each.
On a positive note. Savannah only had one stalker problem. Not like in the other books where they have a few different problems going on!! And the sex in this book seemed more realistic than the others. No endless orgasms for her. Which I admit I loved as the other books sex scenes were a bit silly!
Hunt is a local detective, often working along side Norcross Security..or cleaning up after them. Hunt respects them but he has to abide by the law whereas they tend not to. But it is what it is and they all get results. Hunt and Brynn (The Powerbroker) are siblings and she is with Vander, owner of NS. Now you know the connection. Hunt has a new neighbor and she is driving him nuts. She plays her music too loud and is sassy. Sassy but beautiful. And he’s pretty certain she’s hiding something.
Savannah is an artist and just recently moved..again! That’s all she seems to be doing lately but she’s has to stay vigilant and ready to go at a moments notice. The detective next door keeps asking questions, and he’s gorgeous, but she can’t tell him the truth and needs to keep her distance.
Hunt and Savannah are fire with their chemistry. I think we all love the alpha tough guy that’s a teddy bear inside. Another great read that includes our friends. Onward to Hunt and Brynn’s brothers!
Ah, I love the Norcross Security books for a quick, pretty smutty read in between heavier books. This wasn't my favorite in the series, but it wasn't the worst either. I loved the suspense in this one, even though the story wasn't anything groundbreaking. In fact, I feel like I've read this exact story before, so I wasn't too blown away with any of the twists. The romance was fine. I liked both Hunt and Savannah, even though Savannah did make stupid decisions sometimes.
I look forward to reading the last two books in the series and getting to know Hunter's brothers better!
Very enjoyable read. Hunt/Hunter was a wonderful hero and Savannah a likable heroine. I enjoyed reading along as they fell in love while Hunt and others worked to keep Savannah safe and capture her stalker.
This series just keeps on getting better and better for me. Hunter and Savannah's story is pretty fast-paced so you'll fly through the pages just like I did. I couldn't put it down. The action and suspense kept me captivated and on the edge of my seat the whole time too. I can't wait for the next books in the series since it's the other Morgan brothers.
Hunter just wants some damn sleep, is that too much to ask for? His neighbor's loud music is doing its best to prevent that from happening, though, so he just needs a word with her and he's sure she'll turn it down. He had no way of knowing the nighttime visit would bring him something he didn't know he was missing - love, even if it's with someone he can tell is hiding big time secrets. Now all the former Delta operator can do is convince her to stick around, even after he finds and brings down the person responsible for putting the fear in his beautiful artist's eyes. Will Savannah trust Hunter, to find her stalker AND to take care of her heart?
I've been loving this series centered around the Norcross Security team, and always wondered what Hunter's backstory was. Now that I've read, I am highly impressed! I loved Hunter! He's got the signature alpha protectiveness all the men and women of Norcross have, even if he's technically not an employee, he's commanding with a big heart, and fell so hard for Savannah, who made him work for her heart. I wanted to hug her and could definitely see why Hunter fell so hard for her. Though Hunter isn't an employee of Norcross, he's as much a part of them as the actual employees, being that he cleans up their messes and clears their way for everything they do involving crime in the City, and I have to say that he's actually my favorite guy in this world of alpha af men and women. Paired with his equal in Savannah, their story is also my favorite of the series, and now I can't wait for more!

Hunter is a detective who just wants to be able to sleep but can't because his neighbor loves to blast her music at night. He's finally had enough & gets her to answer her door, and it changes the course of his life. Savannah is an artist who is living on the run from her past, and so she doesn't bond with people because of that but she never saw Hunter coming. They really start to bond, but he knows she's keeping something secret, and so he starts to really dig into her life. Of course, her past is coming for her so crazy things are happening while he's around which means she's going to have to come clean to him, and she does. However, she's a flight risk despite the fact that they're catching feelings for each other because she doesn't want him in the crosshairs of her past. I LOVED this book so much as the suspense factor is leveled up with a big kicker of heat. Oh, and the supporting cast added in serious well placed humor on top of support so there's nothing about The Detective that I didn't love. I'm new to Anna Hackett's world, and I will be going back to read all the previous books in this series as it's totally my jam so I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
5 Star Review The Detective (Norcross Security #7) by Anna Hackett Anna Hackett is a new author to me and how I have not come across or read her books before is beyond me. From the first chapter I was riveted to the story about artist Savannah Cole and Detective Hunter (Hunt) Morgan. Savannah has a stalker which means to keep those she loves safe she can never go home. Meeting her neighbour Hunt is a catalyst to change her life. Even as she develops feelings for him she knows she should be keeping him at arms length. However the heart wants who the heart wants and despite the danger she falls for the handsome detective. Hunt can see beneath the surface and knows that Savannah is hiding something and when danger rears it’s head, Hunt steps up to keep her safe. This is a fast paced story with romance and suspense which was well written. I was on the edge of my seat whilst reading and had trouble putting this one down. When time permits I will be looking at other books in this series.
I'm sure others will enjoy this book as my reason for disliking it is based solely on my dislike of Savannah. She irritated me the first time we met her and it never changed although I did enjoy the story, except for the too long rescue, so read it through. Have really enjoyed every other book and character this series.
The Detective is book seven in the Norcross Security series by Anna Hackett. Savannah Cole never stays in one place for long after she runs away from her home because of an obsessive stalker. However, she made a mistake when she played her music too loudly while painting, and her neighbour, Hunter Morgan, a San Francisco detective, complained. Due to his time in the military and his role as a detective, Hunter's gut told him something was wrong with Savannah. Will Hunter find out Savannah's secret? Readers will continue to follow Hunter and Savannah as they discover what happens.
Readers of The Detective will begin to understand the dangers of obsession for the sufferer and those around them. I have not read a bad book by Anna Hackett; her writing style always engages me with the stories and characters. For this reason, I was looking forward to reading The Detective, and it did not disappoint.
I love Anna Hackett's portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine throughout this book. The Detective is well written and researched by Anna Hackett. I like Anna Hackett's descriptions of the settings in The Detective, which helped me imagine being part of the book's plot.
Up until now Anna Hackett has only given us snippets of Hunter Morgan. He's former Delta Force, a straight laced SFPD detective who works to hard and occasionally has to clean up or cover Norcross Security messes. They can do what he can't, work outside the boundaries. He's tired, overworked and his new neighbor is not helping by blasting her music into the wee hours. Savannah Cole is a woman trying to stay off the radar and out of harm's way. She's on the run from a psychotic stalker. A series of violent events put Hunt smack dab in the middle of her life. She is fearful for his and anyone else's safety who's around her because the stalker has made it clear...she is his. Hunt really has to work to gain Savannah's trust and her love. This very talented and caring woman is the one he's been waiting for.
Hunter is ex Delta Force, now a San Francisco detective. When his new neighbor plays her music too loud he meets the lovely and sexy Savannah/Susannah, an artist with secrets. When they're caught in a drive-by at the local coffee shop, Hunt's protective instincts go into overdrive. As her secret is revealed, they take refuge in a safe house. Things between them heat up quickly. As the case comes to head, Hunt, his family and the men of Norcross Security race to save her. Like the prior books, Hunt is all alpha male - sexy, brooding and good in bed with Savannah more than able to handle him and a strong woman in her own right.
This story was interesting, fast paced, and sexy, with a captivating storyline and kept my full attention— which is exactly what I expected from this author. I loved every moment of it!
Savannah is hiding from her stalker next door to Hunter. Hunter confronts her about her loud music. And it's on! Anna Hackett just keeps finding the most imaginative pairs to grow the Norcross family. This one has some interesting vibes!
I really enjoyed reading Hunter and Savannah’s story with the fast pace action, suspense and sexy times. I loved Hunter’s protectiveness as well as the rest of the team having his and Savannah’s back. Another great book in this series.
This thrilling read immediately captivated me and had me on the edge of my seat through ups and downs, suspense, drama and more that had me turning the pages as fast as I could to see what was going to happen!
Una historia rápida y ligera con acción y suspenso. Me gustaron los personajes, sus historias de fondo y la fuerza que cada uno encuentra en el camino para obtener su felices para siempre.
Hunter Morgan. Detective and someone who is good at solving clues. Helping Norcross Security in bringing justice to victims and helping smooth it over with his chief. Savannah, and artist has been on the run for a while, away from a crazed stalker who wants nothing more than to use her for his own art. I loved the chemistry between these two. It must of been terrifying for her to be on the run and always looking over her shoulder. I can't wait to read about his brother's.
