David Walliams is an actor and writer best known for his work with Matt Lucas in the multi-award-winning sketch show Little Britain. His debut children's novel, The Boy in the Dress, was published in 2008 to unanimous critical acclaim and he has since developed a reputation as a natural successor to Roald Dahl.

I really had fun with this one (if we are speaking of "Worst series"). I would like to have a Supersonic tortoise as a pet. No, make it a vehicle instead :)
The illustrations are the only good thing. David Walliams' 'The world's worst pets', illustrated by Adam Stower, is a set of ten stories of the pets you'd meet in a nightmare. The first is a ginormous goldfish called Furp. The boy protagonist should have thought twice about buying Furp, upon seeing the pet shop keeper's enthusiasm to cart it off. This story, honestly, (call me a party-pooper), was the worst of the bunch. There's a giant deus ex machina that solves the insurmountable problem. I thought readers would be too discerning to swallow this.
There's also Bumble the budgie who machinates with a magpie outdoors, Zoom the tortoise, Houdini the bunny that confounds the magician.
Ten pets pestering their owners and everyone else, making a mess in houses that no one cleans up (taken a lot from Dr. Seuss, the latter having done it much better) and creating mayhem. Humour was thin on the ground. There is no plot or narrative to any of the ten stories. It's just mounting horror and chaos. From a reader of children's books, wouldn't recommend.
Possibly one of the funniest kids books I’ve had the pleasure of reading in a very long time. Although I’m not a huge fan of the author himself, Walliams’ daft humour and his ability to see the funny side of things is brought to life by his collaboration with fantastic illustrator, Adam Stower.
A short story collection, (although they are not that short, the book in total has 308 pages and there’s 10 stories!) featuring a variety of animals as the main characters partaking in all manner of crazy shenanigans! Ranging from dogs to cats to budgies, and everything in between, The Worlds Worst Pets is an absolute blast! I found myself laughing heartily numerous times and as a 50 year old, I don’t care that I’m 42 years over the target audience!
This is one I hope my grandchildren will appreciate in the future as it is a huge amount of fun, not only to read and appreciate the pictures, but the way in which it is written in terms of font choice adds a real depth when read aloud. For example if something goes ‘whoosh’ it’s font is big and bold and spaced out more than the other words to add emphasis and this is done all the way through and it is brilliant!
Kudos to everyone who played a part in creating this book because I’m pretty sure it deserves more than just the one famous name on the front cover. Yes, it’s a Roald Dahl wannabe, and as a child from the 70’s/80’s I can tell this is where it’s inspiration is from but it doesn’t make it any less fun and memorable.
Can I just mention ’Monty the Musical Dog’ - don’t mind me whilst I laugh at this story in particular for the rest of my days… 😂 Wouldn’t it be fantastic if a composer wrote a Musical called ‘Dogs’, seems fair, I’d say! Here’s a few from The Playlist -
Give Me Your Last Sausage Slurp, Slurp, Slurp from the Toilet Bowl Barking up the Wrong Tree Don’t Blame Your Blow-Off on Me
And my personal favourite - Sniffing Each Other’s Bottoms
NB - when someone says ‘grow up’ - don’t! After all, you won’t get to experience the delights of kids books of this generation.
They said worlds worst pets this is worlds best pets the pets are so cool like a rocket turtle and the master mine cat the horse that coul draw like Pablo. I think the horse was the saddest because when the horse drew the master peice the owner of it would lie that they drew it.
Another ripper by David Williams and amazing colour illustrations by Adam Stower.
As always David brings to life children's stories in a humorous and fun way. The World's Worst Pets explores characters like Furp the Fish who is somewhat of an evil beast, The Burgling Budgie who as you can guess has some sneaky claws, and my favourite Bad Bunny who was somewhat cheeky towards his magician 'The Great Fiasco'.
Thanks @harperkidsau for an enjoyable read ✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️ out of 5 from me!
I know it’s a kids book but I usually like kids books made by Ronald Dal(sorry if I spelled the name wrong) and apparently this author is the “new Ronald Dal” but this book is ten times worse then any of his books
Every second story has to do with farts or burps like just because it’s a kids book doesn’t mean it has to have fart and burp jokes most kids don’t even find them funny just that one weirdo in your class
Most of the stories where very predictable and boring like the literal plot twist of one of them is that the guy was in a bear suit the same story that had a gay couple like don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with being gay but in a kids book really? What if one of the kids decides that he’s gay at the age of 4 plus the gay couple didn’t even really mater because the whole story was about kids wanting a pet bear
The only good story in my opinion was A supervillains cat I didn’t expect the plot twist I like that it’s like a diary and some of the jokes in that one made me laugh
The only reason this has 2 stars is because of a supervillains cat

Good pets, bad pets, supervillain pets, pets as big as a house, and pets that could eat you in one gulp – these are the most hilarious and horrendous animals around.’ I loved this book. I am a massive fan of David Walliams’ books so I went into this book with high hopes. Thankfully it not only lived up to my high expectations, it well and truly surpassed them. I honestly haven’t read a David Walliams book that I haven’t enjoyed but this one is easily my favourite of his short story collections. David Walliams has done it again with this hilarious collection of short stories. Each of the stories was fresh and entertaining while also being different from each other. As will all of David Walliams’ collections each of these stories contain a message for young readers to learn from while also being laugh-out-loud funny. Adding to David Walliams’ wonderful stories are the stunning illustrations by Adam Stower. Adam Stower’s illustrations are bright and bold, and perfectly captured the stories being told. The combination of writing and illustrations in this book is truly fantastic. I honestly don’t have a bad word to say about this book. As I am not the target audience, yet I absolutely loved this book, I can only imagine the joy this book will bring to the lives of Middle-Grade readers. The World’s Worst Pets by David Walliams is a must-have for all young readers and their families.
The book "world's worst pets" is a really funny and not formal book to read. This book is well written to young children and even adults that wants to have something funny and chill to read.
In my opinion, this book is really good for multiple reasons, the first reason why this book is really good is because this book will make you laugh. This book is having about 200 pages and in each page there is a page about a different pet that is doing crazy things for example making the whole house dirty and breaking everything. That makes the title of the book really understandable because you can see in the book why the pets are the World's Worst Pets. Another reason why this book is really good is because this book is really not formal and is really easy to read. That makes the book good because it is more of a fun book where you don't have to put that much effort in reading it but also still enjoy it. That can make different ages being able to read it and like it because it is not too hard to read and it also has a big picture of the pet and that can help you imagine in your head what the pet is doing and what it looks like.
According to other people's comments and thoughts, I can see that this book is being loved by many people in different ages which shows that everyone can enjoy it and not only a part of the community. Also other people really liked the pictures of each page because in each page there is a page full of different images that shows the pet that they are talking about and they also show what the pet is doing that makes them the World's Worst Pets.
In conclusion, The book "world's worst pets" is a really funny and an easy book to read. This book can be enjoyable for many different ages and it has good pictures that helps you picture in your mind what the book is talking about.
“Most pets are cute and cuddly. They give you love and make you happy. However, there are pets that cause devastation, distress and despair. These are the pets I will be telling you about in this book. They are so much more fun than the nice ones. ~David Walliams”
These ten tales of the world’s craziest creatures will have you shaking with laughter. You’ll never look at pets in the same way again!
Marvel at Houdini, the magician’s rabbit. Take a trip around the world with Zoom, the supersonic tortoise. Gasp at the chaos created by Griselda, a grizzly bear with a big secret. And RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! It’s Furp, the monstrous goldfish!
Good pets, bad pets, supervillain pets, pets as big as a house and pets that could eat you in one gulp – these are the most hilarious and horrendous animals around.
I always enjoy reading how David Walliams brings his whacky stories to life with the most bizarre characters. Not only are these pets out of control, their owners are equally strange. And the pair of them put together bring enough mayhem to end the world.
This is the first book I’ve read that is illustrated by Adam Stower and his work is fabulous. He adds so much personality to the characters with the simplest splashes of colour and the most subtle expressions.
A rib-tickling peek into how the minds of animals might work, this is a guaranteed entertainer where silly ideas are executed with creative plans. Psst… If you’re trying to convince someone why not to get that pet lion, this book is your answer.
The World’s Worst Pets by David Walliams is a collection of 10 tales where there are various pets, some are worse, and some are worst! Illustrated and coloured beautifully by Adam Stower, this book is not only for children but could be easily enjoyed by adults as well.
The stories are about the pets who make the lives of their owners hell! By possessing different powers, they find various ways of troubling their owners, leaving hilarious moments in between for the readers. From Furp, the biggest goldfish that ever lived who eats everything to a supersonic tortoise – Zoom, this book is full of scandalous, horrible but hilarious pets.
The backbone of this collection is its illustrations. The illustrations are gorgeous and with each page, they make the story more fun, relatable, and easy to read, making it a book that children can enjoy and read easily.
The comfort and light humour that it brings gives the reader various instances to have a good laugh, and thus, it easily became my comfort read.
Although this was my first read in the world’s worst series by the author, I’m definitely intrigued to check more from it.
If you are someone who is looking for a book for children or for yourself for a light, fun, and comfortable read, you should definitely check it out.
Thank you to the publisher for the book in exchange for an honest review!
🐙Had a good outing last Sunday and ended up completing The World's Worst Pets by David Walliams by the riverside.
🐋Ten tales about the worst of all and some not so worst pets brought to you by David Walliams and illustrated in colour by Adam Stower in this book, The World's Worst Pets which is a continuation of the The World's Worst series by Walliams.
🐕Ten pets harrassing their owners and creating havoc in their lives will have you chuckling and laughing out loud. A monstrous goldfish, Furp, the magician's rabbit, Houdini, the supersonic tortoise Zoom and seven more such pets are bringing you the worst they can do in the form of this book. You'll have your perspective changed about pets once you read this fun book.
🐡Each page has been absolutely wonderfully crafted with lots of different fonts and illustrations. The book is not only fun to read but it is very very visually appealing with its colourful illustrations and glossy pages. The writing reminded me of Roald Dahl's books. Each story is different from the other and I had a good time reading them.
🐬I have read some books by David Walliams which were more entertaining than this so this would be a 4🌟 read for me but I'm eager to check out the other books in The World's Worst series.
Walliams cheekily mentions at one point in here that this book is quite a lot like the World's Worst Children. It was something my kids and I all picked up on. Some stories had more Child than Pet in the plots. He references his own liking for lists to bulk out the page numbers. Yes. We know. It's all the more evident in an audiobook too.
These will always sell well, always be enjoyed, but they do go so over the top at times it sounds hard to narrate with increasing enthusiasm to last until the last pages. I listened with a 6 and 12 year old over a few journeys, definitely more suited to the younger than the older reader/listener.
We even sat in the car considering other World's Worst.... Walliams could try next to bring us something new (not gonna give away our ideas here though - but there were some good ones!).
Bears, Andrew Lloyd Webber bringing out Dogs the Musical, tortoises, snakes, a magician's rabbit. A good range but the one that stood out for me was the supervillain cat's diary - that was the only original part of the whole thing and I'd have loved a whole novel in that vein!
Definitely entertaining for the target market but a little wearing for older veterans.
A to zdaleka není vše!
The World’s Worst Pets is the latest in this popular series from David Walliams. It’s a collection of ten stories of the craziest pets you will ever meet, including a gigantic goldfish named Furp who has a tremendous appetite, Bumble the budgie who conspires with a magpie, and a magician’s bunny called Houdini who finally upstages him.
Amy has enjoyed reading the stories, and I’ve heard more than a few giggles from her. I love how many onomatopoeic words feature in the book, and even younger readers will delight in looking at the vibrant colour illustrations by Adam Stower.
I loved this book! The whole thing is full of humour. Every pet made me laugh! My favourite was definitely the horse but they were all so good. The animals owners are hilarious too! All of the pets have something different that makes them funny and lovable. If you like animals, this is definitely the book for you. The illustrations in this book are also great and they add to the humour. I recommend this book to you! By Nell
I enjoyed all the stories in this book 📚 very much. I would like to read more David Walliams books now. I liked the story about the the world worst horse 🐎 the best. I liked all the ideas about the painting,s. I liked the horse 🐎 changed in colour and show and had a enough courage to stand up to Molly. I liked the name Picasso very much for a horse. I liked the story about the supervillain cat very much. I liked the house 🏘️ very much. 😀I liked the gerbil and hamster story very much too.
Thank you to Harper Collins Australia for sending a copy of this book to Torah for review.
Im a big fan of his books . He always makes me laugh when I read his books. What I liked about this book was that the animals have different perceptions and they all wanted something different but in the end the animals got what they deserved.
I have a feeling that Walliams can write amusing stories with anything! And this time it's about pets! Ordinary and extraordinary animals being kept as pets, and how these pets create funny (some very silly) memories and adventures with their owners.
I was fortunate enough to meet David Walliams and Adam Stower. This book had me laughing and I loved the different stories to go with the animal. There is a cat, pony, tortoise, bear and more. Each bought something different and I can’t wait to read more from David.
Audio book listened with my kids, they both gave it 5 stars.
6yo: I thought it was really good because it was really funny - because it had the farts and karate pooping in it. 4yo: The thing that was funny was the “sniffing each others bottoms” song in it.
took me around an hour to read! the title is inaccurate. some weren’t bad pets anyways my life hasn’t been the same ever since i found out his last name is actually walliams… not williams 😭 thank you mia love you
