After leaving Zeidmoore Manor and returning to the life of a traveling adventurer, Lecan’s first order of business is to find an apothecary capable of replenishing his limited stock of effective medicine. His best bet lies in the city of Volka, and he is soon hired as a bodyguard for a wagon headed there―a position he will share with the (self-professed) master adventurer Eda. Can Lecan survive attacks by monsters and bandits with only someone who couldn’t fight her way out of a paper bag watching his back?!
This was definitely a step up from volume 1! I really liked the introduction of Eda and her enthusiasm for adventure (despite her actual title with the guild being a sham). Her dynamic with Lecan is really fun, especially due to their opposing personalities. I honestly didn't expect to care much for this series, but I'm slowly becoming invested in these characters and their story.
This volume was much better than the first, much more enticing. Hard to explain why exactly, but it didn’t feel so crammed.
The gritty art style fits great, and really stands out amongst the rest of isekai manga. If this counts as isekai, I mean technically he wasn’t reborn, but transported?
“Eda” should surely be featured again, right? She’s on the cover, shows up for a while, then disappears? Weird.
Lecan lifting those big ass rocks was based, sick of weak ass mages and twinks being the mc.
Lecan's adventures continue as he searches for someone to teach him how to make his own potions. A bit of info from a villager points him in the right direction and a chance encounter gets him a job headed towards his destination.
Again, this series does feel like a highlights reel. Lecan saves the day and gets info. Lecan travels and gets hired. Lecan saves the day and gets clout. Lecan meets a lady and performs tasks. Lecan always seems to just... succeed with little to no effort and none of the other characters seem to matter much more than background NPCs. Again, bland but not awful; the orphanage bit was funny.
This was a step up from volume 1! The artwork was amazing, and the pacing felt somewhat better this time around. I didn’t find myself bored or uninterested at all, in fact I was looking forward to seeing where the plot took Lecan, and was surprised to find I’d read the whole thing so fast! It’s a pity there’s only going to be only one more volume when there’s seemingly so much potential for the story, but I’m looking forward to seeing how this journey concludes regardless!
It’s beyond a shame that this series got cancelled after its third tankōbon volume. There’s moments of absolute genius overshadowed by insanely rushed pacing. I’m assuming it’s because this is an adaptation of a novel and the manga run apparently wasn’t that successful (go figure, an isekai with an intelligent and mature twist on the genre’s conventions and a lack of moe fantasy girls for incels to lust over didn’t get to complete its run…shocker). I’m hoping to get more characterization from Lecan (THE MAIN CHARACTER) in the final volume. He’s so interesting, but due to pacing issues, has not gotten a lot of attention w/ regard to building him out as a GENUINE 3-dimensional character…there are hints, though, and I’m hoping that I learn more about him in the last volume coming next. Really a shame this series got axed early because I could’ve seen it becoming something REALLY great….sad boi hours
Is it perfect? No. Is it good enough for more than 3 volumes? Absolutely. The art is dark and gritty without being bland. The story is simple, yet focused on the character so that it doesn't hinder the quality. Overall I love this world and the dreadbeast hunting. I wish it got more of a chance.
