Along came a spider who proved she's a survivor.

With the sudden appearance of the demon lord Ariel, Kumoko is not going to survive long if she doesn't do something drastic. However as you can imagine this would suck if the demon lord actually straight up destroyed Kumoko even at this point so thank goodness for blind luck and plot armor as she finally reaches her Arachne form at last. With this new form her old face is shown (from before she was accidentally killed in our world and reincarnated in this one) but her features are rather pale.

Now escaped from her tormentor Kumoko discovers the vampire child she met before is in real trouble as combatants go to her mansion. Unfortunately if Kumoko thought Ariel was a monster just wait till she meets the foe responsible for the present situation while no longer having her back up survival trick ready, ability to use powers with an external influence, nor the experience associated with the new form even if she strove for it. What more something strange is going on with Ariel as she comes to the rescue of Kumoko (for once) and explains to her why she isn't instantly trying to murder her while offering her an alliance now that it seems Kumoko is absolutely immortal in the demon lord's eyes.

Of course being an Arachne means Kumoko is capable of any and all emotions so seeing her getting flustered and occasionally nervous was a nice change from the usual spider reactions form the rest of the series so far and seeing Ariel's entrance I couldn't help but be surprised and amused. :)

By far one of my top favourite isekai manga! Kumoko is having a tricky time facing off the Demon Lord. It seems her 'grandma' is absolutely out to kill her for consuming her 'mother' and Kumoko is desperately running out of gamer skills while the Demon Lord Ariel goes on her rampage. Luckily a Hero bravely interferes with their battle and buys Kumoko time to escape by faking her death AGAIN!

This time she hatches out of her own emergency spider eggs waaaay back in the Labyrinth and with the help of an unlikely ally, FINALLY evolves into a more humanoid Arachne form!

Kumoko is elated to have hands and fingers again! But she finds she has no time to celebrate because she must rescue a fellow classmate who was reincarnated into a vampire baby from an evil Elf King.

Kumoko teleports in the middle of his murder attempt and puts up a really good fight even when he starts cheating and using robot arm guns! Turns out he's controlling a freaking Android and it's not even his real body. However, before things get dire Kumoko is suddenly saved by non-other than the Demon Lord herself who hates the Elf King even more than Kumoko.

She easily destroys his Android body and decides to strike up a truce with Kumoko. Our spider girl finds herself reluctantly joining her enemy while also travelling with the vamp baby and her butler protector.

Review for books 1-11 😅
So I went on a bit of a bender and read all the manga currently available in English from this series in an evening (fun! but would not recommend). We watched the show & loved it so this was something of a no brainer. In my less than perfect recollection of the show it seems to have held quite true to the books which is really nice but I also love all the extra little tidbits we get in the manga. The main charter is so much fun & caries on like a freaking champ through all the terrible stuff that happens to her. Absolutely one of my favorite Isekais and I can't wait to see what crazy turns we'll take next! (maybe I'll get impatient & read the original light novels...)

The story in this manga is basically a summary of the light novels, shoving the humans' story to the side (and good on it). Since I'm a volume behind on reading the novels vs. what's happening here, I'm on a horse galloping at a breakneck pace and don't entirely understand what's going on. I still was able to get a basic idea of the plot, and it's cute and funny, and it makes me interested in continuing to read the light novels, so it's done its job. :)

Ippo & punching Potomas

Still Spider, if you've gotten this far you know what you're getting. This one has Potomas getting a fist in the face, so that's a big plus. And even once she's an arachne, pay attention to the spider head - lots of great references, like normal. Including an Ippo Dempsey Roll/Mashiba Flicker reference, which tickled me pink. (I've had a soft spot for Hajime no Ippo since Snoopycool, so...)

The last couple of volumes of this series worked less well for me than the beginning. The plot takes various unexpected and illogical seeming twists, and the protagonist's development also took some weird turns. I kept reading, but more out of curiosity than interest.

This is a very strange volume. My favourite spider finally evolves into Arachne! She doesn't look quite like I expected but I'm probably being weird about it. And are we not surprised that she's being that tough on the baby vampire!?

New content!

This volume catches up this anime season 1 and passes it. Granted, only a chapter or so worth but still new content.

I have one petpeeve in this volume; the design of the arachne evolution form.... It's just weird to me there are two heads.
