Ruth Fitzgerald is the author of the 'Emily Sparkes' series, published by Little, Brown UK. Ruth grew up in South Wales, and has spent most of her adult life in Suffolk, via Brighton and Japan. Ruth finds it very difficult to be serious for more than three minutes at a time. One day she realised she was a grown-up and tried to do 'proper' jobs. In fact she tried around 23 proper jobs, but her habit of giggling in management meetings meant she didn't get on as well as she should have. Fortunately, Ruth found that children also find it hard to be serious for more than three minutes at a time and they also hate management meetings. Since realising this she has stopped going to meetings and started writing funny stories. Now everyone is happy

This is a great book to help children negotiate their way through parents' separation. Full of practical tips as well as techniques for understanding emotions, it really looks at all possible angles.
A lot of the advice regarding emotions is transferrable to any situation - writing things down, meditative time and sometimes just shouting into the void and are all useful tips in many situations.
I liked that there were lots of real life examples too, as these would be instantly identifiable for a lot of readers.
