Discipline for Life: Getting it Right with Children

Rate this book
What do you want from discipline? Better behaved, more cooperative children? Certainly! This book gives you practical, helpful techniques for accomplishing this. But don't stop there. Discipline can accomplish so much more. We also want emotionally healthy, respectful, responsible, self-disciplined children who know how to make sound decisions, communicate effectively, solve problems with skill, handle difficult situations with grace, and treat others with dignity. What we teach with our discipline at ages 2, 5, and 12, will return to help or haunt us during their adolescence and adulthood. The tips, traps, and stories found in this book help us discipline effectively today yet keep an eye toward the future. For we will reap what we sow.

This is a great book for teachers and parents. It has all of those "yeah I knew that" ideas/practices but actually helps you put them into use. The mantra to live by and teach kids is "I am responsible for what I choose to do and what happens to me and others as a result of my decisions and actions." I truly believe that if we can teach our kids this, the world would be a much better place to live and more than that kids would be happier in the long run.

I have spent hours upon hours learning in classrooms, read pounds and pounds of literature/text books/how-to-guides on parenting and this is hands down the most straightforward, applicable, logical and life-changing information on discipline I've come across. If I can implement these changes in myself, my spouse, and the way I teach my children, we will be a happier and emotionally healthier family. Not to mention my kids will grow to be respectful and accountable adults. I'm excited about acting on these lessons!

The best parenting book I have ever picked up. I had to study this book while I was working as an early childhood specialist through the U of I. It gives you steps to take and easy to follow guidelines in parenting...you'll have AHA moments!

Wow, I love this book so far. It is the best parenting read I've come across since I was influenced by Dr Sears and Ina May Gaskins 4 years ago. And the best part - it is working already, and I haven't even finished reading it. I'm even highlighting it so I can go back and reread it. ;)
