The king's and queen's alliances shift on both sides when all five kingdoms must choose sides in a civil war looming over the Empire of Quetza. Destroyers, demons, and dead walkers joined warriors in each army of the Falestos brother. Herena from the west sent her response. She was neutral, but she relented to the emperor's demands. King Bartolome from the kingdom of Karkat refused to take sides. However, Klastos wants the loyalty of Bartolome and his Chanta warriors. Corrysande returns to Vanyan on her diplomatic trip to Heron. And fate sends her as a spy to the Kingdom of Bartolome but as her uncle Klastos infiltrator. June and her people need to reach the Athany Castle. An army and a powerful mage stand in the way of Kara and Karl. Emperor Klasto runs wild, but they would have to fight whoever Falestos' brother wins the civil War.
War is inevitable; who will win the civil War? How could the gifted get their training before the end of the War if they are running for their lives? Corrysande is playing a dangerous game with a curse on her head. How can she survive with such a curse? Will she stay true to her convictions or fall for the charms of a devious King?

This is the fourth book of The Assembly of Thirteen series. In this book, I tried to answer many questions fans have asked in the last five years since I first published the first book. I struggled to write this book. It took several years to finish. I published Clashes of Wills in 2019. The book was supposed to be over 600 plus pages. I took a lot of it out and passed it to book five. Promises of War is less than 500 pages. However, it is by far the longest book. What can you expect? Well, you will find June, Kara, and Karl. They will have a big part in this story. Also, I will take you through a rabbit hole that will end in a possible explosion with who ends up "inheriting" the throne of Quetza. Oh, but there must be an assembly and a new Emperor... Yes... The question is, will all the 13 Gifted be alive until the end? And remember, we still need to find the priest in a land with no religion.
I've been waiting for this book for over two years, and it was worth the wait. The story is becoming more complicated. I think this will be one of those stories with more than five books.
Spoilers
In this book, June, Kara, Karl, and Callo finally get together. Pop Tolenko, Opal, and Wagner reach the Castle. The war between Gaston and Klastos goes underway, and all in the Empire become embroidered in the conflict. Corrysande ends up a pawn of Klastos, and she has a big part in this book.
I never expected the story to take this turn of events but I so want the next book. I hope the author doesn't make us wait long for the next book.
