What could be more romantic than finding your one true love, when all hope seems lost.

Dr. Evan Holt, has made a fine life for himself in Holiday, Oregon. He’s not looking for companionship, a sweetheart, and especially not love, he is perfectly content on helping others, through his doctoring skills.

Miss Henley Jones has been calling trains her home, for most of her life. All she’s ever wanted was a place to call home and plant deep long roots. Then the unthinkable happens and Henley is left all alone.

As Evan and Henley’s paths cross, neither one knows that their lives are about to change, especially with one of them is keeping a secret from the other.

This was such a sweet romantic story. I fell head over heals in love with this couple, their chemistry was spontaneous.

Venturing back to Holiday, Oregon was such a special treat and a reunion of old friends to visit.

I loved how Shanna brought this story full circle with both Evan and Henley’s pasts securing their future.

I also highly recommend reading the announcements at the end, so much history and research was giving to this book about various subjects incorporated within this beautiful story.

I’m loving the Love Train Series, truly a fun series with Train Conductor Henry and his matchmaking interference.

There's something about the way Ms. Hatfield writes that pulls me into the story and has me growing to love the characters shortly after meeting them. Henley has just lost her father and agrees to travel to Holiday, Oregon as a mail order bride. On the train she meets Dr. Evan Holt and a friendship begins. Turns out Evan is returning home to Holiday after visiting his family out east. He has no plans to fall in love but is drawn to Henley's spirit. While they may be headed in the same direction literally, their future plans don't sync. I loved watching the friendship bloom. Will Henley marry the stranger or does God have different plans for her? I enjoyed the mention of praying and asking God for his guidance. It was a pleasant surprise to have appearances from other books show up in this one.

This is story #2 In the Love Train historical western romance series. Featuring the finest writers in this genre, who could resist this series intro? “They meet on a train; they each have a secret.”

All Henley Jones craves is a family and a home where she can finally put down roots. She is the only child of her father who was a professional gambler and her homes have been only trains, riverboats, hotels and boarding houses. Beautiful, educated and worldly, her rootless journey comes to its end when her father is murdered in a card game. With no family and practically penniless, she accepts an invitation to become a mail order bride in the quaint community of Holiday, Oregon. Who should also live there but Dr. Evan Holt whose enormous and warm-hearted Pennsylvania family is pressing him to get married! The good doctor has not given it much thought because he is much too busy establishing his practice in Holiday. She meets Evan on board the Hope, the vintage train with so much history and a perhaps a portent of things to come. Henley goes to great lengths to disguise her former life as the daughter of a gambler with its connotations of a tainted existence and public shame. In Holiday, she goes about charming him with her sweet demeanor and indeed the entire town. The merchant she is betrothed to strikes at rich in a gold claim and disappears. Desperate for a living she accepts the position of assistant in Dr. Holt’s clinic. Their magnetic attraction to each other grows but the doctor harbors a secret of his own which could destroy their fragile romance permanently. The author sets a dramatic table as she opens up the story by describing the lives of Henley and Evan. The desperate plight of Henley upon the death of her beloved father will tug at your heart with such emotion! You will fall in love with wonderful and oh-so-deserving Henley But, will Evan love her also and will the town accept her in spite of her past?

Henley was such a beautiful story! I loved getting to know both her and Doctor Evan. :) I totally get why the author said they were an unlikely pair of characters (Henley with her unusual upbringing thanks to her being the daughter of a gentleman gambler and Evan coming from a large family yet not wanting to follow the farm life tradition), but they were perfect for each other! Henry's definitely a matchmaker but I also loved how everything played out in order for these two to get to know each other and grow closer to the other. I loved that the first half is set on the train and the second once they arrive in Holiday. Their romance was really sweet and it was fun seeing their attraction and appreciation grow. Still, it was equally fun getting to know the community and friends Doctor Evan has, as well as his cat, Tuesday. All in all, a beautiful story with unusual yet lovable characters that will have the reader both laughing and swooning. ~ 5 stars

PS: Depending on the e-reader, this story could finish between the 86-89% mark. The rest is bonus content, like recipes, a sneak peek of the next story, an author's note, etc.

Content:
Religious: while there's mention of characters praying, attending church (listening to hymns), and seeking God's guidance in making decisions, there are no actual Bible verses or parts of a pastor's message shared, so I wouldn't label this a Christian Fiction.

Oh, one of my most favorite stories, in one of my most favorite towns which is Holiday, Oregon, and by one my most favorite authors ever. Shanna is a fantastic, talented, author who creates the best characters for everything she writes and she has never failed to impress me, yet. She also creates the best stories; you know that kind that will make you keep on reading as you can’t and don’t want to put it down.
This story isn’t one to disappoint either, it is so good. Henley meets Evan on the train heading to Holiday and in a few days have become fast friends. However, she is also betrothed by mail order to marry a man with a business in Holiday.
The best train ride is when they exchange trains to the older Holiday Express which is owned by the town of Holiday and everyone loves to ride that train.
Evan, so kind a wonderful arranges for his and Henley’s luggage to be transferred to the Holiday Express once it arrives. He has taken care of her since he met her on the first train in Omaha.
Once they get into Holiday, he takes care of everything again. What a great and handsome guy he is and she wishes she wasn’t supposed to marry someone she hasn’t even met yet.
If you haven’t read this amazingly wonderful story, get it today, right now. It is that good and you can see how many reviews it has gotten.

Another sweet romance in Holiday, OR. Henley has been raised by her father who is a professional gambler, so she spent her growing up years in saloons and gambling halls. After sending her to a finishing school and European tour, she returns to travel with him even though her heart's desire is to have a home and roots. When her father is killed, she feels lost, and decides to become a mail order bride in Holiday. Her travels are made more pleasant when she meets Evan on the train and finds out he is the doctor in Holiday. They become friends and when she arrives at what she hopes will be her home, she finds out that her intended struck it rich and left town. Evan offers her a job as his assistant and she excels at it. He, though, has a difficult time with her past because he hates gambling. They each have to decide what they want and what is most important. I love that there are characters from past series in Baker City and Holiday as well as the matchmaker in Grass Valley. Shanna has a way of writing that makes you feel like you know these people and they are old friends. I also love that she researches so thoroughly the times and customs so the stories are believable. A truly enjoyable book.

A book by Shanna Hatfield is a wonderful escape to gentler times and great friends.
Holiday, Oregon is almost a magical community. Starting out as a rough mining town, advances have been made and it is becoming more civilized, thanks in part to an influx of several mail-order brides.

Henley Jones is the daughter of a gambling man. Her widowed father raised her on the road until she was old enough to be sent way to school. At Finishing School she learned the ways of a distinguished lady, but not many day to day skills. She was grateful to again be traveling with her father until tragedy struck.

Dr. Evan Holt loves his large family but also his life across country from them, where he feels he is fulfilling his purpose. He doesn't see a wife and children in his immediate future.
However there is something about a woman he meets on a train that he can't deny.
Finding they are traveling to the same destination, he befriends the lone woman.

If you love stories with strong female characters, stories of forging one's own destiny, taking responsibility for life and opportunities, this is a series you must not miss.
The characters you will meet across several books become friends (yours and each others) and each experience together is cherished time.

A heartwarming read!
I've been enjoying the Love Train Series books and Henley by Shanna Hatfield is no exception. When her card-playing father dies, Henley decides it's time for her to take charge of her life. She wants a home, someone to love, children. Her only chance at such is to accept a mail-order bride proposal. Her intended lives in Holiday, OR, and Henley boards the train full of hope... and meets handsome Doc Evan Holt. Evan is one his way home to Holiday, and as the two ride the rails, their attraction to one another deepens.
Henley and Holt compliment each other nicely, not to mention, they're so gosh darn cute! One can't help but sympathize with Henley and feel her loneliness when she looses her father. Though she didn't approve of his card-playing and gambling, she loved him and overlooked his faults as only a daughter can do. And though Evan is dead set against marrying, his befriending Henley on the train ride west and then falling in love with her touches on the reader's heart and makes for a great romance.

Henley has no one but her father so when he dies suddenly she needs to make some quick decisions about her life. Fortuitously she spots a mail order bride advertisement and things quickly fall into place. Meanwhile Dr Evan Holt is returning from the noise and bustle of a big family gathering to the peace and quiet of home in the town of Holiday. A meeting on a train and helping each other with an injured man leads to conversation and friendship. But there are secrets afoot and a waiting groom to deal with.
I really enjoy all Shanna Hatfield’s books and when a new one comes out it is a no brainer for me to read and review it. I especially love the historical ones and the way she brings the details of the time to life. I learn lots about the period and love watching the relationship, romance and drama all slot into place.
This story is a winner in my book - historical romance and drama, trains, the town on Holiday. I fully advise reading it as soon as you can.

Henley was brave and impulsive to take the train ticket to Holiday and marriage offer of the first mail order bride ad she responded to after her father died. Who knows what kind of man was at the end of her destination. He didn't sound like prince charming to me. She meets Evan on the train and he acts a bit judgmental about her traveling with her professional gambler father, what kind of immoral woman that life might have made her, and how she shouldn't look at him as a better prospect than her potential husband. Henley is the one who jumps in and helps him and is calm in a crisis. She ends up being a great office and medical assistant, but he doesn't like how skilled she is at cards and acts a bit like a spoiled brat about it. Part of me thinks he's jealous because he wasn't so successful with them. Their path to true love isn't smooth, but Henley knows Evan is the man for her and is determined to help him see it too.

I want to live in Holiday. This is a good story about family, the one you are born into and the one that you make. It has just been Henley and her father most of her life. Now she is alone and doesn't know what to do. When she applies to be a mail-order bride, she feels that Holiday is the place for her. On the way there she meets Evan. Evan has so much family, even though he loves them, he can only take them in small amounts. He is sure he will never find anyone who can fit into his life as a busy doctor. Evan isn't sure Henley will want to put down roots as she and her father have always been on the move. Henley just wants a place to call her own. Can she convince Evan that she wants a forever home? Will she stay in Holiday even if she has made so many friends? Can she convince Evan that she is sincere?

Great new series! Dr. Evan Holt meets Henley Jones on the train while traveling home from a visit with his family. Henley has just lost her father and feels her only choice is to become a mail-order-bride. A savvy conductor puts them together on the train and they discover they are both headed to Holiday, Oregon. Attraction blooms but Evan thinks Henley has a secret. Upon arrival they find out that the proposed groom has left town. Which leaves way for romance—but should Henley tell her secrets? And can Evan trust her and put his heart in her hands? Once again, Shanna Hatfield brings her characters and history to life. You will love this clean romance and you will want to read more stories about Holiday! Don’t miss it!

Shanna has written a tremendous book in this next installment for the Sweet Historical Western Romance Love Train Series. It grabbed me from the start and kept my attention through to the end. Henley, our heroine, was such a loving and lovely woman. She had a difficult upbringing with a father who had a gambling addiction. She overcame adversity and any preconceived notions by looking at the facts through compassionate eyes. Dr. Evan Holt was a wonderful hero who had regrets from his youth as he had very negative personal dealings in regards to gambling. They had some struggles but love won in the end. Enjoyed reconnecting with a few characters from the Holiday Express series first book, Holiday Hope. Highly recommend!!

It seems I start every review of any Shanna Hatfield book the same: I really liked this book! Which is why I am always eager to read every book she writes! This one is no exception.
Henley and Evan’s story was delightful. They meet on a train headed to Oregon, Evan returning to his home, and Henley, looking for a home: as a mail-order bride. But what awaits Henley in Holiday is not at all what she expects. With the help of Evan and the new friends she makes, maybe her future will be better than she ever imagined.

I received an ARC of this book from the author. My review is voluntary and my own.

Another great book by Shanna Hatfield! I love the story of Henley and Dr. Holt. We met Dr. Holt in the Holiday series and it's nice to hear the rest of his story in "Henley." Both characters are charming and I truly enjoyed reading about them. Henley and Evan meet on a train headed to Holiday. Henley is on her way to become a mail-order bride and Evan is returning from a wedding out East. They hit it off immediately, but both have struggles from their past they have to overcome. This is a sweet romance which left me feeling really good every time I picked it up to read. I had a hard time putting the book down. I highly suggest "Henley" and hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Henley has grown up with a gambling father and no real home as they traveled. She just wants a permanent place to call home. But her father just can't live like that. One night of gambling, her father is shot and killed. Henley hasn't many options, so she heads to Oregon on a train to be married to a stranger!! Evan Holt has worked hard to become a doctor and has no room in his life for marriage. They meet on the train to Oregon. They experience many adventures together. Will Henley get the permanent home she has always wanted? Will Evan realize a wife can be part of a busy Doctors life??

Henley (Love Train Series Book 2)

I greatly enjoyed this sweet romance story. It was clean, wholesome and well written. It reminded me of how things were in the early stages of our country's growth. As with the mail order brides. I find it so fascinating how brave those women were to set themselves into an adventure with unknown consequences. I think it must have been so exciting although a little fearsome, not knowing what was in store for them and their futures. This is a story I'd recommend to people of all ages, from early teens and up. Thank you Shanna for brightening my hours.

Henley wants to settle herself and her father instead of moving around all the time. She enjoyed their time and adventures together over the years despite his being a gentleman gambler. When Henley loses her father she decides she needs to lead her own future and set roots down so she answers a mail order bride advertisement. Her travel west didn't go as planned but sometimes life and the lord put you on the path your meant to be on. Dr. Evan Holt is traveling back home after his trip home for the wedding of his sister. I fell in love with the characters, the natural romance build and the town of Holiday and the people within it.

One step, one hour, one day at a time

Henley's life falls apart with loss and then abandonment, fortunately she boarded Henry's train and he, Willie and Scruffy show her all is not lost, especially when they introduce her to Evan.
I completely fell in love with both Evan and Henley, they are both such generous and kind souls, not hesitating to help anyone in need. Their belief in their feelings and the love they share may be slow to form, but the love is there for all to see from the very first meeting. I am also pleased to see Adam redeems himself too, as I was less than impressed with him at the beginning of the book.
I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

This is a lovely story about mail order bride Henley whose father was a gambler therefore she never really had a stable home so when he dies she becomes a mail order bride headed to Holiday. Meeting Dr. Evan was a surprise as they struck up a friendship so when she arrives only to find her betrothed left town so Evan offers her a job in his medical office. They are both looking for something she wants a place to call home and he wants a life away from his family farm but have they found it in each other.

Henley ❤️ Evan

Another darling story by Shanna Hatfield. Henley’s father is gone. What will she do now? She lives in the same town as her Aunt Bette and goes to find her. She passed away not too long ago. She is all alone in the world now. So she made contact with a woman to be a mail order bride.
Evan is the Doctor in Holiday, Oregon and meets Henley on her way to be married in…Holiday, Oregon!
A lovely story to pass an afternoon. Get a cup of tea and a few aggravation cookies to enjoy. You will have a delightful time.

What's in the cards

Shanna knocks it out of the park once again. I just love the name she chose to use "Henley". Henley is a young lady with a sweet disposition who has lead a rather interesting life. Encountering Evan on a train as they both are heading West sets off on an adventure.
I highly recommend this book. I couldn't put it down. It is a sweet and clean read. You will not be disappointed with a creation of characters and adventures that Shanna draws you into. She is a master of story telling.

Sweet Historical Romance

This is such a fun series!
I loved meeting Evan's family and the special bond he has with his youngest sister, sits awfully close to home, and i can totally relate!
Henley and Evan's instant closeness on the train was powerful, and I was glad to hear how it was rectified!
Henley's guardian was a nice surprise and Evan's shock was a difficult thing to read about. At least all their friends could see the truth! The picnic was a beautiful addition! As you can see I loved almost every minute of this book!

Holidays For Henley

Henley only had her father growing up after they lost her mother, she traveled around with her gambler father. After being killed in a card game Henley lost her only glue in her life as she was alone after burying her father. Deciding to become a MOB was an easy choice to achieve a home of her own that she longed for.
What should she do after a long, but interesting train ride to find out her betrothed had abandoned her!?!?
That train ride proved to be her lifeline!
What a wonderful, endearing story!

I love to read Shanna's stories and this one revisits with characters from a previous series, which I love - (no problems if not read) and is Henley's story and how she ends up in Holiday, Oregon with Doc Evan - in those days after losing her father in a tragic way she is lost in how to find her way in life! It truly is a wonderful sweet story of love and a bit of adventure thrown in! I read a bookfunnel version and freely leave my review!

I loved Henley, the character was sweet and kind despite her rather abnormal upbringing, she knew what she wanted and what she deserved. I loved how Shanna also included other beloved characters from the Holiday Express series to help the two main characters find their way to each other. I thought Evan was a great leading man, kind, generous, smart, I liked how he struggled to admit his feeling for Henley due to past hurts yet still manages to overcome what he considered his shortcomings.

This story really resonated with me- Henley is a product of her childhood but is not defined by it. I loved getting to know more of Shanna’s finely drawn characters and going back to Holiday! Henley bravely steps into an unknown future unsure of her abilities but discovers them as she serves people and helps the handsome Doctor Evan Holt also known as Dr Dolt when she’s frustrated at his ambiguity and distant behavior. Another worthy must read!
