I really enjoyed my time with the first two instalments in this series, and this novella was absolutely no exception.
We pick up with Fin from the first book, who’s been through the ringer at this point. He’s a bit jaded — more of a hardened survivor now— but still just as empathetic (if a bit guilt-ridden) and likeable as he always was.
We’re introduced to some new characters as well, with Eilish and Jack being my particular favourites, along with their origins during the outbreak. I found myself attached to almost all of them by the end. (Shoutout to Jack and his INSANE bravery.)
Eoin’s prose is always biting and punchy, but he also has this ability to sprinkle in tender, very human moments amidst the fear and dread — which I really appreciate. (The conflict with Josh is a particular standout for me)
The story ends fairly abruptly, so I can only hope the next instalment ‘Man of Famine’ comes out ASAP.
