Zenni Calloway is a plus-sized beauty who hasn’t always felt confident in her appearance. She’s dealt with years of constant scrutiny, under the guise of tough love at the hands of her mother in addition to being fetishized by men who want nothing more than to indulge in her in private only. Frustrated with dating altogether, Zenni has cut herself off from the world of men, until a blast from the past shows up with intentions of giving her everything she’s been missing.
Idris Bailey has always had a soft spot for Zenni Calloway. Spending summers with his grandparents introduced him to the woman he’s never been able to let go of since childhood. When he moves back to town to care for his ailing grandmother, he comes face to face with the plus-sized beauty that stole his heart all those years ago. Determined not to miss his shot this time, Idris sets out to be everything Ms. Zenni never knew she needed.
Will Zenni allow herself to be loved the way she deserves, or have her experiences hardened her heart forever?
Kimberly Brown is a South Carolina born and raised author of contemporary/urban romance. She strives to create stories that readers can visualize in their heads as the pages turn. Writing has been a part of her journey since a young age but really became a focal point during her high school years. With the support of her classmates, she began sharing her love of words with others. In 2019 she took her first step towards becoming a serious writer with self-publishing. August of 2021, she made her BLP debut with “Pretty Caged Bird” and is continuing to grow her catalog. With a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a pending masters in Mental Health Counseling, Kimberly loves to incorporate mental health into her writings as she feels it is not talked about or address enough within the African American community.
Kimberly Brown does it again. It’s Gotta Be You was such a refreshing read. It was a super sweet and slightly angst free romance that comes in heavy with all the feels. Idris has been crushing on Zenni since they were teenagers but, little does he know, she was crushing on him as well. They lost touch with one another after Idris’ family moved out of the country but, he never stopped thinking about the girl next door. Fast forward 13 years later, the two “love birds” reunite when Idris moves back to take care of his Grandmother. When they finally see each other again, it’s like no time has passed and Idris makes it his mission to claim Zenni as his. While Zenni is equally attracted, she questions if Idris’ feelings for her are sincere. Zenni is a plus size beauty dealing with some serious insecurities and self-esteem issues thanks to that mama of hers. Tracy was a piece of work. She pretty much bullied her own daughter over her weight. Tracy went out of her way to put down, demean, and embarrass Zenni every chance she got. What really pissed me off is, her dad allowed her mama to treat Zenni that way. He never said a word in her defense. Thank God for Zaria. She rode hard for her big sister and had no problem checkin’ anybody and throwin’ hands to defend her sibling. Idris let be known Zenni’s size was not an issue for him. When Tracy called herself trying to throw shade, he quickly shut that shyt down and told her, “I like my women with meat on their bones.” Take that Tracy! I absolutely loved how Idris constantly affirmed Zenni. When her mama or those mean girls from church tried to tear her down, he made sure to build her up and he definitely had no problems defending her. After the way he read that heffa Alecia, I had to pick my mouth up off the floor. Whew chile! He ate her azz up! Mother Bailey was pure comedy. She’s the Grandmother we all deserve and she and Deacon Jones need their own book. It’s Gotta Be You was an absolute joy to read and the message to love the skin you’re in was well received.
Y’all!!! Why was this story everything?!?!! Why was Idris E👏🏽VERY👏🏽THANG!!! Zenni was a plus sized beauty that exuded confidence on the outside and could go toe to toe with the best of them, sadly this didnt completely match the inside. This was largely due to her mother and the backhanded compliment/comments she received regarding her weight. Outside of her sister Zaria, she really didn’t have anyone rooting for her! She dealt with men that had private BBW fetiches but would disrespect her in public. She was to the point where she’d written off men completely oh BUT GOD…. Here come Idris MF Bailey! Idris had a crush on Zenni since they were mere teens. He’d spend summers with his grandparents all while stealing flowers from his grandmothers garden to woo 15 year old Zenni. Now that he’s returned to town to care for his granny he is ready to shoot his shot and my dude hit nothing but net. Idris was everything Zenni never knew she needed nor thought she could have. I absolutely adored their journey! KB is easily skyrocketing her way to the top of my favorite authors list!
Zenni and Idris were made for each other! The fact that he made her feel like a Queen every time she saw him had me screaming internally for her because she truly deserved all of his love. Also, the ending was an absolutely perfect way to end this story.
Idris courting Zenni was adorable to read. Idris kept up the pressure and wouldn't let up. I enjoyed how Idris truly demonstrated to Zenni how she ought to be loved and respected and cared for.
Idris is bae!!! 3.5🌟 Ok so 1)slow burn in a 148 page book is bold. 2)there was some real repetitive parts, and 3) this had the hateful momma trope that absolutely hate. I absolutely LOVED every moment of Idris. But! This book is kind of on trend for a lot of the books I’ve read lately, 5 star story 3 star exaction. But Idris is going on the book boyfriend list.
Bay-be Queen Kimberly Brown has been putting out books like Prince used to drop albums back in the day, lbvvs. This beauty truly writes stories that have you thinking she knows your backstory, cause this one hit home for me. Zenni couldn't help but have a mental battle with herself regarding her weight. Her whole life she's been taunted about and the worst person of them all is the woman that gave birth to her. Zenni went through what a lot of us Plus Size women go through. It's fu**ed up when you hear the negative comments and disrespect from strangers, but when it comes from family, your mother, that ish hit different. I was clapping and screaming "Yaaasss Biiihhh" when she finally read her mother to filth, Oh-kay cause she deserved it. Mrs. Calloway made me wanna jump through this tablet several times to tag that a**🤷🏽. Mr. Calloway, smdh at him too cause that ninja say there for years at let that damn woman mentally and rationally abuse their daughter😡😡😡. I freakin loved Zaria, she's the sister I've always wanted. The love she had for her sister, the way she went to war with anybody behind her sister warns my heart. Idris, Idris, Idris was fu**ing amazing, with his fine sexy a**😍😜. For him to still have feelings for Zenni after all those years, damn. That man was a man's man, he didn't allow anybody disrespect her, not even her momma. The way he read that bit** Alicia👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😂😂😂. Everything he did, the words he spoke, the way he cared for her was done with so much love. He was definitely meant for her, and her for him. Mother Bailey was something else. After finally putting space between her and her parents, she allowed herself to accept all the love Idris was pouring into her. And it also showed parents she was happy with or without them. I'm glad they were able to heal from it and rebuild their relationship💕 IT'S A MUST READ🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I enjoyed the courtship of Zenni and Idris…lIdris was a friend of Zenni’s brother and as a young teenager when he would visit his grandparents he would hangout with Zalen and talk about Zenni…now 13 years later as adults he returns to town to help his grandmother and takes advantage of his close proximity to her and shoots his shot….Mr. & Mrs. Calloway (Zenni’s parents) were the thrones in my side in this story…Mr. Calloway with his passive behavior and Mrs. Calloway with his sarcastic and aggressive behavior….I love how Idris continued to build Zenni up and helped her work on her esteem….because she didn’t like confrontation she would let a lot of nasty things her mother said to her slid…and her father never said anything, he simply remained mute….However, Zenni’s best friend and younger sister Zaria got their parent together about messing with her big sissy…Idris showed her how she was supposed to be love…The couple finally got to their HEA.
Zenni and Idris were cute AF together. Idris came back to town to care for his grandmother, but he had ulterior motives: Zenni Calloway. She was a BBW with body image issues. But as she worked on healing and loving herself, Idris stood by her side the entire time. He stood up for her and spoke affirmation and life into her so beautifully. He made it so easy for her to be comfortable in her skin.. Together, they were perfect. And I've heard big girls do it better, and the way they got it in in this story....I can concur it might be true 😜 Kimberly Brown is becoming an absolute favorite.
Ms. Brown, I have to say that you are broaching these different subjects and genres quite effortlessly. I have to acknowledge how well you illustrated the mental anguish that Zenni experienced from being a voluptuous woman. You dissected how being mentally abused can affect someone's life down to their career. Zenni's mother was a disgrace for the way she treated her daughter. She should have been her biggest cheerleader and built Zenni up, therefore, making her have so much self-confidence one would think she was arrogant. I was so happy when Zenni put her and her father in their place. Zenni had to show tough love and finally let them both know how she felt. It was the wake-up call they needed.
Now let's get into this romance that Idris and Zenni had. Idris was the man that Zenni had always longed for and prayed about. He had a crush on Zenni for years, it started when they were youngsters. I loved how Idris affirmed Zenni. He made sure to build her up when others were trying to tear her down. He did not mind defending her nor did he allow anyone to disrespect her. He was the man for her. I loved the scenes where he was picking her up. He was into BBW and not as a fetish. He loved Zenni and all she had to offer. Zenni was doing her thing as well, getting her bag 💰 and following her dreams. At her boutique, she wanted to make sure that all plus-size women felt sexy and loved the clothes they wore.
This is a women's fiction read that explored a realistic topic. Some voluptuous women go through a lot of bullying and harassment. It is not always a stranger either it can be a family member. The way the different men that Zenni once dated treated her was disgusting. This book is eye-opening and can be mind-blowing. I am urging that you download and crack it open. You will fall in love with Idris's grandmother and Zaria. Zaria was the best friend slash little sister that did not play about Zenni. She was ready for a TKO at any moment even with their parents. Ms. Brown has added another 🔥 one to her portfolio. I am looking forward to seeing what she think of next to put on paper for us all to indulge in.
Idris was everything! I love the way he stood up for and supported Zenni. I'm glad Zenni stood up for herself with her mom. Her mom was horrible, she had good intentions but went about it the wrong way. She almost lost her relationship with Zenni until she came to senses.
I just have one word for you…Idris !! The way Idris pursues Zenni is everything. He is intentional, patient, and laser focused on making sure she know what she means to him. Zenni needed a man like Idris with dealing with how the world treats and see plus sized women. These two childhood friends find the opportunity to reconnect and baby do they! Zenni and Idris chemistry absolutely is undeniable. Just read this…
Its very rare to find plus-size representation in books, especially black ones at that so shoutout to Kimberly Brown for this. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Listen, the way Idris loved Zenni out loudddddddd. GURL! A girl can only dream about finding this kind of man. He constantly reminded her of how beautiful, valued and loved she is. Even standing up to Zenni's own mother!! 😮💨🥺
Oh I really loved Zenni and how her character transformed through the course of this book. When your mother is your biggest bully and constantly puts you down because of your weight it can cause some real internalizing issues. But I loved when Zenni stood up for herself against her mother and set rules for their relationship.
This book was so refreshing and relaxing. I just loved it.
Alright now Kimberly! I love the confidence that Zenni had about her appearance, and how she handled the unkind world around her! But, she always had those thoughts of insecurity and not being good enough, courtesy of her mother! What on earth would make a mother tear down her child in this manner? I just wanted to slap fire from Zenni's momma's ass, she made me so angry! 😠 Anywho, Idris! Can I say perfect? This man knew that Zenni was his, long before he was able to do anything about it! Once the opportunity presented itself, he made sure to show her how a real man behaves! He catered for her, built her up, and the patience and restraint he displayed was everything! Zenni deserved all the love and attention that Idris gave her, and together they were magic! Zaria, was the best sister that anyone could ask for, and I loved how she stayed hyping her sister up! Great read! 👍👍👍
Zenni and Idris were THAT couple. I was hesitant to read the story bc I thought I wouldn't be able to fully connect with the characters, mainly Zenni, yet I felt like she was me, in the sense that she was just like any other Strong Black woman in need of genuine Love.
This was too short imo, and I say that only bc I needed more. We all need more of the Love Idris gave Zenni. Her sister Zaria was also one the whole world needs more of. That mother of Zennis' was horrible. I'm glad Zenni chose herself and distanced herself from her parents. That was toxic what was being done to her and it was so unwarranted. Idris wasn't having any of that kind of disrespect for his woman and he set all those who needed to know, straight.
Idris is a man who knows what he wants. He loves a woman with some meat on her bones. That one is Zenni Calloway. Zenni is ashamed to be plus size. She dresses nice and even has a plus-size boutique. She deals with a lot of berating from her mom. She has some issues to work out before she can accept the love Idris is trying to give.
Overall, I like this book. Inwould recommend reading it.
Zenni and Idris were made for each other. This was a beautiful love story. I didn’t want it to end ! Plus I lovvvvve bbw and fine man love story !!!! Hope to see more like this from this author
This book gave me all the feels. Oh boy Idris was BAE for sure. This book was the definition of loving someone just as they were. Idris definitely spoke greatness and positivity into Zenni. While Zenni’s parents let her down she had Zaria and later Idris to build her back up!! I love the message in this book to love yourself in the skin you’re in. Idris and Zenni’s love story was beautiful!
This was a great concept and I love her sister and Idris... However the story was a bit loaded with not needed information and how can she own a shoo to help up lift but run went hidden in the bathroom...ugh and her mother and this whole grown but not and hot and cold truly urked me. The pace dragged at the end and I was happy it ended hea.
I loved this story and the fact that the author chose to make her main character a plus size woman. Zenni had to endure alot growing up being plus size but what hurts the most is when the comments come from your own parent. What I loved about Zenni was her confidence in her appearance but I also hated that she would sometimes go into a shell and want to hide when the comments of others got to her. Idris was definitely bae in this book. His crush on Zenni was still strong even as an adult and his determination to get the girl that got away years ago was beautiful. I loved how supportive, encouraging, protective and uplifting he was to Zenni. He definitely got her out of her shell allowing her to embrace her curves and forget about what people have to say. Her sister Zaria was her biggest cheerleader and I loved the relationship they had. I'm so glad that Zenni was able to let her parents especially her mother know what she was doing to her was wrong and how it made her feel. This story was about loving the skin your in and not letting others negative comments define who you are.
I loved this story. Zenni represented for the big girls. What started as childhood crushes blossomed into something greater. Idris sounds like my kind of man. The way he affirmed Zenni was heart warming. I also loved her sister Zaria everyone needs a family member like her. And let’s not forget the loveable and wise Mother Bailey; she was a hoot!! I enjoyed everything about the book except how Zennis mom acted.
Well written. Good flow. A Unique topic. Idris was a good man. He followed his heart ♥️ . Zenni was a strong woman; yet, she almost let the mean treatment from others break her spirit . Society tends not to be kind to plus size BBW. People can be so cruel. I like that the author took this very sensitive topic and put it in a black romance story. She created a safe space for women who are plus size. This book pushed me to be more mindful of this topic. Thank you to the author
I am so glad Idris helped in building Zenni up instead of tearing her down! This was a beautiful story of struggle, triumph and pure, sweet love. I'm always down for a big girl story, and this one did not disappoint. This author is very talented and I thoroughly enjoyed every page she produced!
Enjoyed this book so much. Everybody is not a size 2 or 4. Some of us are curve with more assets than others that is why this but was relatable to me being that I am curvy with a whole lot of stuff Idris really was not stuck on how Zenni looked, because he loved and admired the whole package she presented. I hope and pray that there is a part 2 to Idris and Zenni. Great Read!!!!
