As much as I enjoyed the first Surfside Girls novel, I loved this one even more! This graphic novel again combines the beauty and culture of a surfing community(Danger Point) along with a great, ghost mystery with the same adorable junior lifeguards Sam and Jade. The mystery goes back a few hundred years following clues through hidden journals and secret rooms with the help of a few ghosts! Such awesome artwork! Loved it!

Sam and Jade have a new mystery to solve. One of the ghosts, Maria, thinks she saw her father walking along the beach. But how can that be? Her father disappeared in 1826! They know it can't be Maria's father, but Maria is convinced it was her father. The girls meet the man that Maria saw on the beach. She's right - he looks exactly like her father. He is Jose Molino, visiting from San Simon with his son, Diego for the Surfside Annual Surf Competition. Maybe he is a descendant of Maria's family? The girls vow to help solve the mystery of what happened to Maria's father.

Maria's father, Don Aldo Aguilar was a well respected man with big ideas. He had a secret, which he hoped would make the family even richer. The problem is he never told anyone what it was. He went on a trip on horseback one day and never returned. No one ever heard from him again. With Maria's help, the girls visit her old house and find her father diary. Slowly, with the help of some ghosts, they piece together what happened to him.

This was a cute graphic mystery and a good sequel. I liked the historical aspect of it - solving a mystery more than 100 years old by finding clues in a hidden diary. The illustrations are well done and colorful. I love the beach side community and how the girls interact with all the ghosts. I think kids will really enjoy this book.

Sam and Jade are back with a whole new mystery. When one of the ghosts, Maria, from danger point believes she has seen her father who disappeared in the 1800's walking along the beach everyone is thrown for a loop. It can't be Maria's father and the girls try to convince Maria that the man she saw is just a descendant, but that can't be true because Maria was the only child he had and she died before she had children. Determined to figure this mystery out Sam and Jade jump in head first.

I thought this was well done. I love her drawings and I liked the history of the story and the mystery. I could do without the ghost-boyfriend aspect, but maybe that's just because I'm too old and it weirds me out. You could probably get away with reading this one on its one, but it would make a lot more sense to be read after the first which I enjoyed more. This would be good for someone who likes graphic novels, is looking for a bit of a mystery, and likes the middle-school vibe.

I have not read the first book in this series, but intend to, after reading this, the second book. The story takes place in a beach town, Surfside, in Southern California, where two girls, who surf, and do junior lifeguards, also happen to be friends with some ghosts.

The two girls meet a crying ghost, who declares that she has just seen her dead father, who mysteriously vanished 200 or so years ago. So Sam and Jade try to solve this mystery with the help of the ghosts, and other clues.

It is a cute story, with references to Ranchos, and their local history. The girls are helpful, kind, and clever.

It was a little odd having the ghosts be able to pick up things, and hold hands with the girls and others, but it turned out the hand holding was important to the story.
Fun, quick read. I look forward to reading more of these adventures.

I reviewed the first one in the series and this also does a fantastic job with the mystery, the flow, and the graphics.

It had an interesting mystery. One of the ghosts thinks she saw her dad who had disappeared when she was alive. She can't understand it so they are trying to discover how that could be.

I like the note-taking in the journal. I think it is really neat that the main character is in the Junior Lifeguards. The teenage growing up stuff is very nicely done.(along with parent support)

Second book in a series but can stand alone well enough.
Maria the ghost is convinced that she has seen her papa, alive and well, even though he disappeared back in the 1800's after his 40th birthday party. The surfside girls, Sam and Jade, set out to figure out how this could possibly be true.
Mystery, romance, surfing, ghosts... Great illustrations and an interesting mystery. Perfect for grades 4-8.

While reading this book I noticed that this would be a great book to finish the day with. Or if you want the girls in your class to read a book they can read this and relate to this book. All girls like cute boys and want to have fun, so this is something that they will be able to understand making it seething girls will enjoy.

This second book in the Surfside Girls series was equally enjoyable. A big surf competition comes to Surfside and, of course, another mystery - one that may have a connection to one of the competitors. My only complaint is that I can't help thinking that having a ghost for a boyfriend is a bit of a 'dead-end,' if you'll pardon the pun.

This story is wonderfully crafted. It's the perfect love and ghost story in the most dreamy of seaside towns. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series. This coming of age graphic novel can appeal to young readers, teens, and adults.

Loved the first one and loved the second one! Dwinell does an amazing job of storytelling. The plots are simplistic but super fun and compelling. I enjoy her focus on the importance of friendship, too.

Another fun little mystery for the Surfside Girls to solve. The illustrations are cute and bright. I would def. recommend this lighthearted graphic novel to preteens (it would probably appeal more to girls).

I wish the girls had faced more roadblocks in their mystery solving adventure, and gotten more things wrong before finding the truth, but this was a fun, sunny story I'd happily recommend to children 13 and under! It was full of summer vacation vibes and the joy of history.

This is much the same quality as the first volume. The girls seek to solve a mystery from the past with the help of their ghost friends (and some surfing happens). A nice series for budding mystery solvers.

I really enjoyed this book! The illustrations are great, just the same as they were in the first, and the story was interesting! I really liked how it ended and wish there were more books. It's a fun, interesting, mystery, preteen?, graphic novel.

Just as much fun as the first book in the series. Interesting story and mystery in this one, although I have to admit that it seemed kind of funny that the town would just believe the girls.
