Fenrir Unleashed: A Misfit Gods Story

Rate this book
Being raised in an abusive orphanage was the worst part of my life, or so I thought until that man that saved me was murdered. Now everything I knew about my life has turned out to be a lie.

Self proclaimed "misfit monsters" are coming out of the woodwork, and they all seem to know more about my life than I do.

I just wanted revenge, but everything has grown to be so much more. Now it's up to me to save the world...or to burn it down.

If you like sexy demons, snarky leprechauns, and snake shifters with interesting...equipment give Fenrir Unleashed a read!

Fenrir Unleashed is a new twist on Norse mythology, and is also a standalone reverse harem. So our leading lady will not have to choose between her love interests! There are brief references to past abuse, so please take that into consideration when reading.

Little wolf

Yelena has no memory of how she arrived at the orphanage. Her first memory is of being cold and alone. Her discovery by the Sisters of Divine Mercy should have brought happiness. She was no longer alone. But her companions were now pain and suffering. Her only friend a mute boy who one day disappeared leaving her with only pain and suffering again. But at 18 she's turned loose. Freedom. Of a sort. A cop gives her a home and the first family she can remember. She carries a curse she doesn't even know about. And memory or no it wants to play out. She's the wolf who devours the world.

Spoilers ahead.
At face value this was a fun read, with interesting characters, and a halfway decent plot. But there's time gaps, a really quick pace, insta everything emotional-wise, and a metric ton of questions left hanging.
*I'm really hoping that in this version Loki was adopted or her and Thor's son hooking up is incest.
*There is a 10 year gap between her leaving the orphanage and when we see her again. It was never stated how long it was so her, to us, instant recovery from a decade of torture is a little fast. We don't learn it was a decade until 80% through the book.
*She knew, basically, how to free Jor but didn't while he could have had time to recover before facing Odin.
*There's a trophy room mentioned. One of her mates gets the item stolen from him back. Why didn't the other?
*The characters are the focal point. This relies heavily in basic knowledge of mythology to have even a basic grasp of places and beings mentioned. But some have been altered for this story, so what else has been about this world?
*She went from 8, to 18, to 28 on us in a blink. She has a tattoo shop. That's all we know about her. Did she get a GED? Did she apprentice? Does she own the shop or is it still mortgaged? Her plans may have changed after her discovery of herself but did she ever want kids?
*Celeste goes from adopted mom, to a killer, to being ended far too easily. No mention of adopted dad's funeral or clearing up his case.
*Is she going to tattoo her guys? Like she did Adam?
*These are supernatural beings, there's a lot of legends and belief systems surrounding them. How will their powers change after bonding? She got stronger. Did they? Can they borrow powers?
*Where will they live? Her shop is in one place, Jasper's career involves traveling but he has a home. Misha seems pretty flexible on location. But are they going to introduce Jor to modern life? Fast food, movies, shows, music, travel, ...
*These guys presented as hetero from the go. Yet they start in with some touching when they're with her that they never talk about. There's a brief mention of poly relationships with supes but not more than anything other then sharing a mate. I'm all for love is love, and more the merrier. But the average guy isn't going to go from hetero to some of those touches without some serious inner thoughts and conversations about who's ok with what. Grabbing another person who isn't expecting it, especially the jewels, can get you punched. Punching kind of derails sexy times.
*Taylor comes back but how she does so is usually something that's morbid and not allowed to survive long. Does her existence depend on M? She has a soul? Zombie, ghoul or reanimated human? In other words, does her dietary needs change?

I have more questions but it's close to 3am and my brain is half asleep lol. I'd say some of them might get answered in the next but it's going to be a different focus so many probably won't. This played to my love of mythology, but I'd have loved to have it expanded on some more. Give us some bonding scenarios that don't involve them naked. Maybe fill in some of the time gaps so we don't have a 10yr gap. She unlocks and masters her powers in a matter of pages. That could have been expanded some to give us more time to fall for the characters. If readers don't bond with characters they aren't invested in them and what they're doing. This could have to easily been 2 books or a decent length novel with a few tweaks and padding. It also needs a heavy round of editing. There's a lot of potential. Dialogue is hard to write but this author kept it going. Even as it switched back and forth between ASL, words and mental speech. And bravo for including ASL in ways beyond hearing complications.

I love Norse mythology and monster RH book so I was excited for this book – and Sage Winston did not disappoint in her debut novel!

The book had a complex plot with lots of twists and turns that made me gasp out loud. In addition the all our loveable misfits are equal parts sexy and witty making for some hilarious banter that left me chuckling. I loved that there were almost equal parts told from each of our main character’s POV plus some snippets from side characters.

The spicy scenes did not skimp and were very steamy – I’d give the book 4/5 on the spicy scale.

I adored all the men in the harem and how they supported Yelena through her grief and trauma in order to become the best version of herself. While our sweet Jormun is my favorite, all the men brought something special to the group. I was seriously sad when the story ended and there were no more of our misfit monsters!

If you are looking for a novel with lots of great banter and heart melting monstrous men this is a perfect book to pick up! Now excuse me while I go read it again.

I received an ARC copy of this novel complimentary in exchange for an honest review.

Loved!!!!

I didn't know about this book when I purchased it. I took a chance and it paid off. I've been in a book slump for a couple of months now and this book finally brought me out of it. I enjoyed it immensely. I loved the story line, the new take on Norse mythology was refreshing and unique. The main female character had depth and instead of being a helpless damsel she was bada**, which I loved. The smexy scenes were hotttt and her men were even hotter. Even the side characters were awesome. I can't wait to read more from this author.

Um, what!?!?!?!
Why have I not heard of her before? Is this her debut novel?!?!?! Whether or not it is, this was amazing!
For a book on the shorter side, the storyline was well paced, plus having to meet and get to know so many main characters in that amount of time, was brilliant. *mind blown Genius in action.
I especially loved Fenrir's relationship with Malakai. That was the sweetest (and funniest) thing ever. I only give this 4 stars because I wanted more of the story.

This was amazing. A great take on Norse Mythology. I loved the characters and the multiple points of view were an added bonus. The banter, the sarcasm, everything makes this book a gem. Looking forward to the next.
