A young girl, marked from birth as the chosen warrior in a kingdom revered for its greatness in battle, discovers that her destiny will bring her outside of the only place she has ever known and push her into a role that will change the fate of her world. The Fallow Grounds darken the western most part of the planet and are known to be the dwelling place for the dark souls of the fallen stars. As Aiden receives orders to join her grandfather there, she sets out on the long journey from her eastern home, and is faced with trouble and doubt as she tries to fill the shoes of the Star Child, her given title. She pairs up with Thorn, a lighthearted prince who strives for her affection, and Ash, the charming other man with a past and a sense of humor. They will each discover themselves in new ways and learn that being the hero sometimes requires more than you are willing to give.
Star Seed: the book's protagonist is a new heroine in the likes of Tris in Divergent or Katniss in Hunger Games. Aiden is born & bred to be a warrior and royal leader and knows she has a very difficult and painful road ahead - but she perseveres because it is the right thing to do, come what may. The setting and story-line is a cross between the worlds of Tolkien's Lord of the rings and Lewis's Narnia and the epic battles between good and evil. Thoroughly enjoyed the book even if I left fantasy/sci-fi books off my reading list a while back (have too many other genres to read). Four stars is a very good rating from me.
