International crime mystery The Phantom Syndicate by R.K. Atkin.

The story follows a vigilante syndicate operating under the command of a mastermind threatening both crime organizations and corrupt governments. UK and US governments come together to find this leader - the Phantom - only to realize he’s been watching and waiting for them all along. Can they stop him, are they all playing into his game, who is he, and what is his ultimate plan?

Given this isn’t my usual genre I don’t know how to compare it to similar styled books. If you are a fan of thriller - it has mystery, chase/hunt, betrayal, and a twist. It’s international backdrop across multiple political / military organizations may be well suited for someone that enjoys a military mystery theme.

What I enjoyed most was the authors attention to detail, the time spent introducing the characters, and the intricate network of locations mapped out in this world. It’s intense. There are times you will feel you are “in it” and on the edge of what’s about to happen. I could totally see this as a movie staring Mark Walburg or Matt Damon (playing one of the government agents).

That all said, be prepared to pay attention as there a lot of characters introduced and you’ll have to pause to remember who’s who. It’s also long and felt like enough words for 2-3 smaller books.

So if this sounds like your cup of tea or a nice side adventure from your usual, check it out. Not to spoil anything, but it is part 1 so…. not all your questions are going to be answered, maybe not any of them!

I look forward to part 2 and watching more from this author in years ahead.
