Old Chrome #3

A Haunt of Jackals

Rate this book
His first case as a Seraph marshal may be his last.

When Seraph’s head marshal calls in Miles Kim to help investigate a triple murder, Miles finds three bodies with no simple answers.

Why were a water baron, a militia leader, and an information broker meeting in a remote junkyard away from their bodyguards?

With no witnesses and no survivors, the case will thrust Miles into the center of a power struggle between the militia and Seraph’s underworld. And no one wants an ex-Meridian police officer prying into their business.

Learning the truth will put Miles in the crosshairs of Seraph’s sheriff and the local militia, along with a gang of ruthless cybernetic assassins on the trail of anyone getting close to the answers to what happened that night.

It will take all his skills as an investigator and all his wits to stop a series of events which will shake Seraph to its foundation.

. Another unsurprising 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ instalment of The Old Chrome series. Instead, there are lots of surprises, unsuspecting and daunting moments! Full of suspense and mystery and intrigue! I love this series! I highly recommend this SciFi, Dystopian, Post Apocalyptic a La Western thriller series!
So happy to know book-4 comes out next month! Yay! 👏👏👏🥰

I was enthralled from the first chapter, I couldn’t put it down! This 3rd instalment in The Old Chrome series is another great book!! And I Love this world of the finches!

There is nothing lacking in this book. Loaded with action and humour, this story grabbed me and wouldn't let go.I can't help but fall in love with these characters and wait with baited breath to find out what happens next. Because it’s so full of suspense and intrigue, the storyline comes charging with mystery, a noir novel of crime and detective work applied to a SciFi post apocalyptic scenario as a background, the author has brilliantly combined various different genres to produce an original and unique universe, a great world building with a lot of potential for other spin-off series.I hope this series doesn’t end soon though. It’s too good to shorten it, and, well, I don’t want it to end!

It is a fast paced action filled journey that will keep you turning the pages and staying up late without realising it.
With twists and turns I never saw them coming. What a great story! Counting the days until the release of the next book, The Gallows of Heaven #4!

3 murders - 3x's the fun. Okay, maybe for the readers but Miles isn't having a great deal of fun. In this engaging genre blending world - steampunk, Western, mechanical noir and more - Author Adler brings new Marshal Miles Kim into a case that is wonderfully twisted and deceitful.

3 deaths and he gets to solve the crime!

I really like the intricate world building here and how the story moves so quickly from one point to the next. The plot is fast, the MC is hard-hitting, and the supporting cast is well thought out and detailed. If I was murdered, I'd want Miles on the case for certain!

Miles Kim is back for another fun adventure with its old western yet new world fell. It was a blast to watch the ongoing adventures of Miles as he tries to uncover what happened in a triple murder as a new Marshal. Full of crazy action, danger galore, and Miles being himself, I loved it. Had to see what Miles would uncover and have to survive. Who would he meet this time around and how fast would they try to cause trouble. Just all round fun to read as always.

The style is fun but the plot was sufficiently convoluted to lose me, and I got tired of the main character, Miles, getting constantly shot and beat up. There’s a McGuffin, and a hint of a larger arc to the series that must extend well beyond this book - and I’m curious enough about it to want to pull on that thread.

The characters and setting have really grown on me. If you like post-apocalyptic sf in a western-type setting, give this a try. I also appreciate that the author wanted to write about an older, retired hero rather than an adolescent with a destiny.

Some dodgy prose and a weirdly large number of continuity errors. Enjoyable enough, though.
