The Olympus Pride #4

When He's Ruthless

Rate this book
Blair Kendrick was just twelve-years-old when she stared into slate blue eyes and sensed that her world was about to change. She’d known down to her bones that the broody alpha cat shifter was her true mate. For the past six years, Luke has watched over and supported her. When she turns nineteen in a few months’ time, he’ll officially claim her and she’ll then join his pride. Or that’s the plan. Knowing her parents are extremely opposed to it, she isn’t surprised when her mother attempts to derail it. But the recent discovery on her porch comes as a shock, forcing Blair to face that she’s become the focus of a predator that lurks in the darkness and now intends to close in on her.

Not even the most ruthless of men are without a weakness. Luke Devereaux has only one: a fierce, lethal bush dog shifter who is also his mate. Before Blair, his mind was a place of endless blackness. She gave him purpose, peace, and balance. It’s finally nearing the time he can make her his, and he’s done playing nice with her interfering parents. But it turns out that they’re the least of his problems, because Luke isn’t the only one who has been watching and waiting for Blair to grow. There’s another who believes he has a claim to her. Someone who has so far kept to the shadows. Someone who is proving difficult to unmask. Someone who has already shown he’ll do anything to possess her. Even kill.

I've said this before, but I'll say this again for those who don't already know...I am a complete and utter fan-girl for Suzanne Wright.

This is me whenever I get a notification that a new Wright book is on Amazon or NetGalley:

description

In general, I have very short list of favorite, auto-buy authors. And Wright is probably my number one...and the only one for whom I am completely unable to be objective.

I don't what it is, but something about the way she writes her smutty romance couples just clicks with me. And I love that I always know what I am getting with a Wright romance. I like that I always know I am going to get, if nothing else, some solidly awesome smut with a deliciously possessive alpha male.

Is the plot always perfect? No.
Is the formula fairly close to pretty much always the same? Yes.
Are a lot of the characters basically the same people in different stories? Sometimes.

But I just don't care.

Like I said, Wright is like a favorite comfort food read for me and I can just never get enough. So all that said, onto this book.

This is the first Wright book in which one half of the main couple is still a child when they realize they are true mates. And, holy shit, I was HERE for it.

description

Add to that a 12 year age gap?

description

The issues and drama in the book were very much Wright's style and, of course, Bailey and the girls was there being...Bailey and the girls.

I thought Wright did a better job here of not having too many overlapping conflicts involving the main characters. Which I found refreshing.

I also just, of course, really liked Luke; but, that's no surprise really, being that he was basically the same as a lot of other Wright's male leads. And since we've already established that's my favorite brand...

description

Wright also dropped more Bailey/Deke crumbs in this book. So I'm really pumped for their book, which I can only assume is somewhere on the horizon.

Long story, short: I enjoyed this per usual, and I'm very happy to add this book to my perma-Wright re-read library.

Same shit, different name. 🤡

Can we get something fresh ?
Some conflict between the couple maybe ?

We've had the stalker/killer type of antagonist several times before. We've also had the other women drama in every single one. Not only the plot is very predictable but the characters are not distinct enough. Not if you read the Phoenix and Mercury series.

The pallas cat and the bush dog!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narrator: 🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😕🙂😖😘

The heroine: Blair Kendrick - she met her mate, Luke Devereaux, when she was twelve years old. They both knew right away that they were mates, and she knew right then and there that there would never be anyone else for her. Her mother fought against the match since Blair and her family are bush dog shifters and Luke is a cat shifter. Her mom knew that meant Blair would one day leave the pack and she did everything she could to make sure that didn’t happen.

The Hero: Luke Devereaux - he is a pallas cat shifter and is part of the Olympus Pride, he is an alpha male but the beta of the pack. He met his mate Blair when she was twelve and he was an adult. He loved her in a platonic way but knew she was his fated mate and told his parents he would claim her when she turned nineteen.

The Story: When Blair was still eighteen, she was being stalked, she told Luke what was going on after someone was murdered and dropped on her doorstep. Luke came and took control of the situation, taking Blair back to join the Olympus pride early to keep her safe. Blair was young but she was more than ready to live with Luke as mates. I liked that she really knew what she wanted and went after it from the start.

This book was told in dual points of view via solo narration. The narration was done by Samantha Cook who did a great job. She has a strong, clear voice and does different voices for different people and uses a different voice for the thoughts than for the speaking voices, so it was easy to tell the difference. I usually don’t even bother to pick up audiobooks unless there is dual or duet narration, but I just love this series so much. It didn’t bother me too much that it was solo narration.

One thing I love about this series (as well as the Phoenix and Mercury Pack series) is that there is always some sort of war or big fight against another group. In this case it was against shifter poachers who catch and kill shifters for their fur, heads, claws and teeth. The side story about the stalker added to the mystery and suspense of the book.

These books are super steamy and all have terrific supporting characters as well. I love that there are so many different types of shifter in each of the packs. I know these have a specific formula, but it is a good one and I just don’t get tired of it. I didn’t like the age difference and the virgin heroine so much, because Suzanne usually has such worldly wise female characters, but even though Blair was a virgin and sheltered within her pack, she wasn’t naïve.

This took me over a week to finish…I hate to say it but I think suzanne Wright is having trouble…

All her recent books are just missing that umpf her older books had. I dont know if it’s cause they’ve become so repetitive or there’s not enough angst as there used to be.

But these are getting upsetting to read because I want to love them but they’re boring. I liked Blairs character, she was firey and a girly.

Plus this one was weird because of the ages… (18 and 30 but they had known they were mates since she was 12 and he was 24). It gave off grooming vibes and so weird to note down that on her 18th bday she did sexual things with him and kissed him before she was 18 as well. Really not the vibes but I felt like I had to read this one to move on with the series…

The one good thing I liked about this one was that Suzanne finally wrote in that the girl that the girl main character had beef with actually ended up friends! FINALLY PROGRESSION! (compared to the her old books where she would just kill off the ‘evil’ girl). Also it had me on my feet for who tf the stalker was😝

4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 rounded up!
I enjoyed this audio read a lot infact there is almost nothing I didn’t enjoy! I can’t really say 1 bad thing it was really balanced with romance, action and pack politics.

🌟Brief Summary:
4th book in the Olympus Pack series. This is Luke and Blair’s story.

They met when she was 12yr and he was 24yr knew they were mates and spent the next 6years getting to know each other and building a VERY solid friendship and relationship.
This is about navigating her family and pack who is against their mating. Her taking on her role as female beta for his pack. Some side action with shifter poachers. SO LOTS OF DRAMA.
She also has a very scary and aggressive stalker that puts her in danger.

❣️Things I Liked/Loved❣️
‼️True mates
‼️Stalker
‼️Age gap -12yrs
❤️Celibate hero -6 yrs but definitely experienced before meeting the h and a lot of his past woman came across her path
‼️V heroine
❤️Having her pick out the decor for his place years before they mate❤️
‼️Marking each others personal space before they mate.
❤️Their shifter animals so cute!
‼️Shifter poaching
‼️Tortured H
❤️She is his light and his balm
💯Protective and possesive H
❤️He will do ANYTHING to keep her safe.
‼️Fun entertaining characters and storyline
‼️Can be a standalone
❤️Such a loyal H
❤️MINE MINE MINE

Things I Did 💔 Not Like
-I didn’t think any past OW needed to show up or be shoved in the h face (all off page but mentioned).
It’s been 6yrs or more since the H was w anyone. Wouldn’t these woman have moved on? None of them were in a real relationship with the H. Made no sense to me. So much time has past that those encounters would inconsequential.

-Just how casual these shifters are about sex. Some of them watch their mates w OP for years before they find out their mates and I just don’t understand that. How do you knot know? And how are you ok w OP with your mate before you. It’s all so casual. It’s off putting to me. But that’s just a ME thing.
‼️I will say that I love the equality though. Almost no V females. I love that they are just as sexual as the men!

🥀 Hero:
Luke- Pallas Cat
24 yr when they meet, Platonic at first like a protector guardian. Once she comes of age her scent changes and that’s when he became sexually attracted to her. Of course he loved her and they built a friendship and then a romantic relationship but until she was 17-18 is wasn’t sexual.

-30yrs old when he claims her. Hes so loyal😍 sweet and protective.
She is his light❤️ and makes his life worth living. She has completely changed him❤️ and I just love how dedicated and loyal he was to his mate even before she became of age. He wasn’t gonna let anyone take his mate from him❤️

❤️🥳HE CELIBATE FROM THE MOMENR HE MEETS HER. And not cause he’s sexually attracted to her at her young age but because he would NEVER do anything to hurt her and betray her❤️❤️ NOW THATS A REAL MAN!

🦋 Heroine:
Blair -18yrs Bush dog shifter
h- 12 when she meets her mate
Strong, confident, sassy and takes no shit.
Mischievous and vengeful she was a fun h.
She was mature for her age but that had a lot to do with how she worked and trained for years to become the female beta for her mates pack when she turned 19.

💭 POV:
3rd person duel POV and kinda jumps around a lot

😡/😍 Angst level:
Medium to low at times

❤️‍🔥 Sex & Burn Rate:
Fast- they are already in love when the book opens and days away from him claiming her. They had make out sessions when she turned 18 all off page.
So we miss all the firsts except her V.

🌓 Push/Pull:
None

☠️ OW/OM Drama:
Mild OWD- a ex hookup (obvi more than 6yrs ago) made claims that they were currently having sex. She was lying. And she was handled.
-Throughout the last 6 yrs the h has had to hear about or meet the H previous sexual partners (off of page). They are very open about sex in this world and the h isn’t jealous cause it was before her AND she is THAT CONFIDENT ABOUT THE H LOYALTY!!!!!😍

OMD- she has a very persistent stalker

🤮 OW/OM Sex / Fluid or DNA Exchange:
None🥳🥳🥳

🤬 Cheating:
None

👰🏼‍♀️ Virgins:
-H definitely got around before he met his mate. Celibate 6yrs after meeting her.

-h was a Virgin

⛈️Separation/ 3rd Act Breakup:
None

🎧AUDIO
Great audio- the narrator did a great job since it’s 3rd person only 1 narrator. She was good with the voices.

Safety⚠️Triggers🗡️:
Stalking
Kidnapping
Murder
Torture
Age gap
Shifter poaching

🌈Epilogue:
2months later

🥂HEA:
HFN but they are definitely HEA

My opinion is just that… MY OPINION.
I know we all get passionate about our favorite reads and characters but we should respect each opinions a thoughts. ~Thank you

Gawd! I'm loving the vibe of this series. I need to read it again. Her books get better and better every time your read/listen to them.

I loved it. I love her books where the couples are solid from page one. This book is all about Luke and Blair being strong and solid while dealing with outside issues. It was so fun to see a mating where they knew from one of them being younger. We of course get to see a lot of the Olympus Pride, and she has me very excited and intrigued for Bailey's story. I'm not sure I can wait until March.

As always the audio is so good!

If you read this, Enjoy My Friends….

Suzanne Wright is my go-to author for fun, sexy and smutty paranormal reads.
I pretty much inhale all of her books in one sitting and it is also a foregone conclusion that I will pretty much love anything and everything she writes with very little exception....... I am currently at 32 books and counting.
In fact, I start to get "more than a little" excited every time I hear she has released something new..... enough said!!!!!😍😍😍

You people know how much I adore Suzanne Wright's work, I've said it a thousand times and I'll keep on saying it, I'd read anything and everything she writes....

It wasn't so much the story that was a bit old, it's was the characters...and for the first time, I guess it just hit me the wrong way...

I didn't connect with either Luke or Blair...they were just there, knowing all along they were mates and then he waited for her to come of age, then he claimed her as his mate then there was this weird stalking business threat...BUT it was all so, I don't know, plain...

There was no chemistry, no thrill, no pent up "something", for me, gah...
they were just there, tagging along, or I guess I tagged along...and then it was over...
Ah....

Anyway, I'm utterly excited for my girl black mamba Bailey...*wink*

This is my 33rd SW book, and to the best of my knowledge… the first virgin h ever!! It’s also (if you don’t count Cain & Cassidy from the Mercury Pack) the first shifter pairing where one is underage when they meet. I might be overloaded on SW, I’ve listened to several of her audiobooks recently and read two back-to-back… but I walked away feeling similar as I did when I finished the last one… a little frustrated, slightly bored, 3 ⭐’s… but for completely opposite reasons.

The good news is that the plot is not so busy with filler/random plot devices. There’re several concepts thrown into the book sandwich… meddling mother, wannabe beta-female, stalker, shifter poaching, etc. … but there was a better balance (than last book) and the majority felt more like background noise with the main focus on one baddie. I also appreciated that we didn’t a ton of new secondary characters thrown into the mix with the introduction of the bush dog pack. Blair brings several characters with her (Embry, Antoine, Donal, Gabriel, Mitch, Keisha, etc.) but they stayed behind the scenes for the most part… which was good because Havana’s bunch plot blocks enough, and we still need to get to some OG’s. (Damien, Elle, Alex’s uncles, & I’m still holding out hope for a second-chance for Vinnie)

The bad news (for me) is that I wasn’t wowed by either mc. Luke is cool and all, but he felt a bit flat… and I struggle finding a kitty badass. Blair was ok, and I get she’s young… but I wasn’t impressed. I LOVE that SW’s h’s are tough, but popping your joints out of place and sticking tampons in people’s noses felt immature not kick-ass. It felt silly which made it hard to take the story seriously.

Bottom Line- Another ok read for me. We get some Bailey/Deke hints and a teaser of a “promise” he made years ago… possibly to another woman that sounds promising. I’m also intrigued with Gabriel; he wasn’t around much, but I see potential for another Camden/Cain type of H.

Sometimes I think I'm not in the right mood for certain books and I think this was one of those times. I do love this series and I did like this book, I just had a harder time sticking with it. It took me way longer to finish this book than usual. The writing is still awesome. Luke was an amazing hero. Blair was a little too tough for me but I still liked her. I'm going to give this book another try when I'm in a better mindset.

Thought I'd at least give this one a go...but I couldn't help but feel a bit squiggy.

Probably wouldn't have minded too much about the age gap if not for the fact that he met her when she was 12, made out with her when she was 17, and that she considered him to be like her "guardian" when she was growing up.

If the book didn't center around 'predestined mates' we'd be calling this grooming. The book doesn't make it gross or untoward when they meet or anything...I dunno just...yeah not for me.

Sadly this wasn't my favorite from Suzanne Wright. I think it's more of a me-issue than anything else since I'm not a huge fan of books where the main characters are already together before the book opens. And that was the case here since Blaire and Luke found out they were mates six years before the start of the book when she was young. So that's six years of friendship and building a connection that we never got to see. The story mainly focused around an unrelated to the romance conflict and for me that just wasn't enough. Bottom line, the book wasn't bad but it never led to me believing or seeing a connection between Blair and Luke.

I belive in change, growh. I believe that the person you were 5 years ago is not the same person anymore becuase you see what is not ok and change it, you see where the society is heading and you try to be a better, a more emphatic person in your day to day life, but Suzanne Wright either doesn't want to change or loves and enjoys the formula she is using for years and refuses to see anything else in this world.

A few days before i picked up this book I did a reread of one of her other books which plays on another formula, one more enjoyable, but as this book goes, I can't even. I noticed this behavior in her previous books but I really thought it's just a one time thing, but it's not. Her earlier books are a little different from one another, even thoought ALL of them follow the exact same writing, they meet, they don't want a relationship right away, they have sex, they doubt each other, they don't know if the other wnats more when they both do, there is a danger for the main characters that brings them closer, one of the characters is close to dying and that's when the other character realises he loves her or w.e bullshit. And at the end anal sex without lube, like wtf is that?

By this point I can skip CHAPTERS of her books and still not feel lost at all. You can read just the smut and you'll still understand everything going on in this book but it's the same bullshit but with different names. This is by no means somethinng only she is guilty of, i've seen so many authors doing this and getting trapped in using the same formula they see that sells and works, something you are aware and happy to read before, but now i just had enough, and what made me really mad and realise i can't put my money or support in this author is the following quote.

This is from the second chapter a woman talking about another woman in 2022, almost 2023 when i write this review.

"Many shifters would have beaten Macy bloody for falsely making such a claim and, essentially, trying to come between mates. But bush dogs much preferred annihilating people’s pride. So Blair had instead cleaned her clock, scrawled “I am a liar” on her forehead, cut huge chunks out of her hair, and dragged her to the bush dogs outside who’d then promptly cocked their legs and peed on her.

Macy had started to come round at that point, so Blair had sucker-punched her again and tossed her into the trunk of the fox’s sleek convertible. She’d driven straight to a popular shifter club, opened the trunk, and stood back with a smile as a once-more conscious Macy had leapt out of the vehicle … only to see that the people lined up outside the club’s entrance were gawking at her. Many had also snapped pictures, and several of those photos were then posted online. One was even made into a meme."

The fact that a woman wrote this in 2022 and thought, "yea, I'll put this in my book" WITHOUT THINKING THIS WAS WRONG on so many levels made me soooo mad!

I read many of her books, I am familiar with her writing and the CONSTANT girl on girl hate, women fighting for a man, woman killing or going to very long lenghts for a man, pick me girls and so on, so i should not be surprised. Althought!!!! Those books were written (some) in around 2012-2017 even closer, so i gave her the benefit of the doubt, after all that period of time WAS in fact characterised by these types of war between women, even encouredged by society, BUT IT IS 2022 FOR FUCKS SAKE. it is time, WE AS SOCIETY that we put these bullshit in the box labed SHIT THAT IT IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN IN 2023 ANYMORE and learn from these bad characters.

So, why in the fucking Jesus Christ are these authors still thinking with normalising these shits???

Also, the reason our character Blair did this shit, TO ANOTHER WOMAN, was becuase she said she still has a relationshup with her mate. Now, i get, mates and true mates are very protective of each other in Suzanne Wrights world, but to go at this lenght to humiliate another woman, ALL FOR A FUCKING PITTY LIE, is just DUMB!!

I will not put my money or time on her books anymore, maybe i will still reread her old books that have a soft spot for me because they got me out of a reading slump back in the days, BUT FUCK THIS.

3.5 stars. This could be read as a standalone, but there are a LOT of side characters in it who would be hard to keep track of if you haven’t read earlier books in this series. So, it would be much more enjoyable if you've read the others (or at least read When He's an Alpha, since that one is when most of them are introduced).

This is Suzanne Wright’s usual formula: it’s about two shifters who get together while there’s Shenanigans happening around them, including a stalker/ murderer subplot, and the subplot of a poacher who’s trying to poach shifters. But, it diverges from her usual formula in some ways!

Luke, a pallas cat shifter, is 30 (he’s the brother of Tate and the cousin of Alex, heroes from When He’s Dark and When He's an Alpha). Luke met Blair, an 18 year old bush dog shifter, when she was 12. They instantly recognized each other as true mates (in this world, they can sometimes know from looking at each other). He’s been a supportive figure in her life ever since, much to her mom’s dismay. (Her mom is against him not because of the age gap, but because bush dogs stick with their own kind).

Suzanne Wright books don’t often start with the couple already together. Typically they dance around each other, and there’s a question of whether they’re true mates or whether they’ll imprint. This one does away with that, and it’s a refreshing change. I admit, I like the part where a couple dances around each other so parts of it felt anticlimactic. BUT, it’s also nice to see her try something different.

Although Luke and Blair meeting when Blair was 12 and Luke was 24 sounds weird, the story is quick to establish that Luke loved her in a platonic way when she was younger. Honestly, my dark-book loving ass could have stood for their relationship to be LESS healthy, but it’s fine.

I assumed the two action subplots of the stalker and the poachers would connect. But weirdly, they didn’t really – and since the poacher subplot mostly involved Camden, the hero of last book, it felt a bit random to be in Luke and Blair’s story. I wasn’t against it, a poacher is an interesting concept for a shifter story, and the way it climaxed was fun. But it did feel a bit like, “What’s the point of this subplot being in this book?”

For the characters, I think Blair is Suzanne Wright’s youngest heroine. But for anyone who doesn’t like reading younger characters, the good thing about this author's heroines and heroes feeling mostly the same is that Blair isn't really different from any of her other heroines: she’s sassy and can hold her own. She’s also not in school. So, the main thing that makes her feel 18 is that conflict with her mom is a big part of the plot, and, when she moves to Luke’s Pride, where he’s the Beta (second in command to the Alpha), some people doubt whether she can be a good Beta female because of her age.

Luke is a typical Alpha hero who’s brooding but devoted to his mate. You’d think a guy who shifts into a cat wouldn't be sexy, but somehow it works, even though I don’t normally love shifter books with nonstandard animals. Of the heroes in this series, I still like Alex best (the hero of When He’s Dark). But Luke is still good.

The only reason I gave this 3.5 stars was that, like most Suzanne Wright books, I had a fun time reading it, but I save 4 and 5 stars for books that stick with me. I'd put this in the category of "very enjoyable, but forgettable." Still, it’s a solid paranormal, and I think this Olympus Pride series is her most enjoyable one yet.

Okay so this being a Suzanne Wright book by default I enjoyed it and I'd feel weird giving it less than 3 stars, that said this wasn't my favorite installment.

I was pumped when I learned an age gap was coming up next in this series. Luke and Blair have a 12 year age gap so I was ready for some taboo age gap shifter drama especially since they met when Blair was 12 years old and had to wait to claim each other until she came of age. That said I felt like this wasn't taboo in the least. Blair was very 'mature for her age' and read like any other SW character aka not 18. I'm not saying I wanted some kinky daddy play or anything lol but I would've liked for Blair to have sooome growing up to do or inexperience or insecurity about her age, the position she was taking on, anything really, but she was just as confident and capable as any of the other 20 something year old heroines SW writes so her age/the age gap felt inconsequential. The only age related grievance was that some people thought she wouldn't make a good beta, but it was very minor (I don't really count her parents issues because that was more about never allowing them to mate than her age).

Besides that the formulaic SW style just wasn't hitting the same. Seems like every SW heroine has a parlour trick/quirk and Blair's was popping all her joints out of place 🥴 okay... While the Aspen/Havana/Bailey dynamic was fun last book and I still enjoyed it, Bailey was just coming off as way too much of a clone of Khloe from her Dark In You series especially since SW introduced Deke as an upcoming love interest for her. Which you know is par for the course with SW, her characters are all pretty similar, but Aspen/Khloe are supposed to be so "weird/unique" that having these two be identical really just amplifies how not unique they are lol

Also I found the villain plotline of this story crazy. There was a lot going on besides Blair's stalker with Camden's drama. But her stalker situation was just so implausible to me and everything that went down this book just made me really dislike the bush dog pack and especially their alpha because of all the fucked up shit he's done and let slide. Not spoilers...he's not the stalker he just kinda sucks lol.

This released the day after my birthday which felt like a belated present to me 😌 and even though I didn't love this one I'll always be happy for a new SW book. That said this book was going to come out later this year and SW was supposed to release the first book of a brand new series, but that got pushed back and instead of having nothing release on 5/13 she pushed this one up so I kind of wonder if this book was rushed at all to accommodate that and might be why I didn't love it as much🤷🏼‍♀️idk. In any case I am excited for that new series and more to come in this series as well!

More like 2.5*
I remember really liking book 1. But, with these other books I think in general i loss interest. Everything formulaic
All the books read the same you got the Alpha guy and the girl with attitude. And, the book being 30% full of spicy scenes. Then thrown in you got the characters hunting for the bad guy. It's just not that compelling enough.

In this book Blaire finds out who her mate is when she is 12- Luke. And, while she is young they keep it strictly PG until she is 18 and he is strictly her protector while she is young. Not gonna lie, it's kind of weird she set it up like that even though they didn't do anything until she was older. It was still a bit odd- even if it's paranormal and it's the norm in their world

Now, Blair- now i love a tough girl! We don't need girls to be damsels in distress. But, she just had over the top aggression and annoyed me. Also, in this book Blaire and gang are looking for her stalker. And, i skimmed through most of the book cause at this point i was just bored.

So not horrible, but not great. I really think authors need to stop with these serial type series as they are more or less similar. It's like those mafia series.

When Luke Deveraux met Blair Kendrick he knew she was his mate, but she was only twelve. In that time they had gone from friends to more as Blair grew up. He had made a deal with her parents not to claim Blair until she was nineteen, that all changes when Blair calls and asks for his help. Blair has a stalker who is ramping up his tactics and no one in her pack believes her.

Blair let her feelings grow for Luke over the years and she has no doubt in her mind he is her mate. Despite her firm belief of Luke, her mother has done everything possible to get her to push Luke aside. Knowing her stalker is getting out of control, Blair takes matters into her own hands and settles with Luke. The threat though is still out there getting more determined to have Blair, can Luke keep her protected with all the other issues swirling around them?

Was anxious to read this one and it did not disappoint. Luke has always been a captivating character and although Blair is nineteen she is more mature then a lot of the characters in the book. Always a treat to read this author.

Amazing how I binge read so many of these books one after the other and now... wow... this book is so annoying. This is probably my least favorite couple, not because they don't work together, but as individuals I don't like them. Also, she's 18 and he's 30, yet their maturity levels are 16, at best.

Really wish the titles for this one and the last were switched too because Camden is totally ruthless and unforgiving, but Luke is untoasted bread type of boring. Like blah blah blah standard dominant shifter nonsense, but besides that and his depression which bonding with his mate magically cured (yes I'm still mad about this) and his easy nature regarding his mate's weirdness-- there is nothing to him. He's just... there.

I'm still looking forward to the next one, I have such high hopes.

But someone else wants to claim her….
Bush dogs, Pallas cats, a stalker, meddling parents, predestined mates and shifter poachers. This book is jam packed and so much fun to listen to.

I came to know that hero Luke had found his mate pretty late, so this book was a total surprise for me.

Luke was an absolute sweetheart to heroine Blair. They found each other when Blair was a 12 years old. He patiently waited, befriended and later courted her. I loved their relationship dynamics. They were a solid team. There was a significant age-gap in the book but it never felt like it. Probably because Blair was a mature and responsible adult and Luke always treated her as his equal. As it their story was a delight. The mystery was done well and I couldn’t guess the identity of the stalker, which is always a win for these type of books. I loved that many of my favourite characters from the series made an appearance. Together they all are one colourful, crazy bunch.

Eagerly waiting for queen of crazies Bailey’s story.
Can be read as standalone.
Safe, KU and recommended.

It’s Suzanne Wright…what else can I say other than that? I love her stories and her formulaic writing. I hope she never changes. I know what to expect and I know the MCs relationship will always be solid and I LOVE THAT.

Luke and Blair were great and the storyline was more stream lined than the last book with some great action. Their relationship was a departure from what I’m used to since they did know they were mates for a long time. I did miss some of that tension and slight push and pull but honestly I didn’t care.

”I don’t just want to be in you.” He breezed his mouth along the side of her face to her ear. “I want to fucking consume you. Take you over. Use you all up. Make you feel so possessed you’ll never forget who you belong to.”

I love Wright’s alpha males and her badass heroines. I need Bailey and Deke…like now.

Hm, I’m conflicted about this book. I love Suzanne Wright’s shifter books, and even when on they’re own they’re not ~great~, together (as a series) they’re so fun because you get to see other side characters throughout. I’m excited for the future of the series, I can’t wait for Bailey’s book and I hope Gabriel gets one too.

This (Luke/Blair) and book 3 (Camden/Aspen) have been my least favorites - but books 1 and 2 were just so good it’s hard to compare. In this book, we get a brief info dump at the beginning: Blair and Luke realized they were mates when she was 12 and he was 24. Since then, he has been celibate to wait for her out of respect. Her mom tries to tear them apart sneakily… he’s been all she sees in terms of a crush and love. Now she’s 18, she has a stalker, and she’s ready to leave her pack to join his pride.

Honestly, all of this was kind of fun. We’ve never had a book from SW with this kind of set up, and I appreciated that Luke waited for her. I also liked that Blair grew up knowing her mate, knowing he respected her, and had him as a friend, then a crush, then a lover. It was a really good concept - especially given how strong and capable Blair is.

The problem I think lied in the plot of the book. One one side, Blair is being stalked. On the other, someone attempts to kidnap Camden. I kept waiting for the two to line up and they kind of did right at the end, but… not really. It was a lot of plot, which meant less time focused on their relationship. I think the point was to help us and the other characters see Blair as a competent Beta, but… it felt a little too muddy for me. Especially because we didn't really get to dive deeper into Luke/Blair's emotional issues.

Still enjoyed! Just not a fav

I will read literally anything Suzanne Wright writes.
The Olympus Pride books. The Pheonix Pack books. The Mercury Pack books. The Deep in Your Veins books. You name it. If Suzanne Wright has written it, it's going on my shelf.
I'm very well aware that they all follow a very specific formula, all cut from the same cloth, but I just never tire of it. Why change a good thing?
I love a heroine who knows her own mind, can handle her own shit and gives as good as she gets. I love a protective, touch-her-and-you'll-die hero. I love spice and steam. I love the shifter / pack dynamics. And since Suzanne Wright knows her audience, that's exactly what she serves up for us.
How do I go about being added to her PR list?

my favorite thing about spring are releases from this series and i almost rounded up, but i could not do that even as a biased reader obsessed with this authors stories

i struggled so hard to figure out a review bc i’m biased and adore this author and her shifter series. it’s one of my comfort reads bc i enjoy the writing + mates + teritorialism. suzanne wright has a method and i am a fan (usually).

the biggest issue with this particular novel was the characters. sometimes sw has characters im attached to or sometimes it’s the plot in super into. i loved this plot, but the disconnect i had with blair and luke made enjoying it significantly harder. neither were that interesting? this is the first shifter story she’s written where the predestined mates met when they were young and had to wait it out. i was into it and i was into the age gap.

what i was not into was the fact that luke felt surface level and lacked any depth. sw tried to give him some towards the end but i just didn’t get a good sense of who he was. he felt very bland by comparison to other sw Hs. blair was also so meh. it must be hard as an author to try to write so many vastly different characters, in hopes that they don’t feel like copies of another. blair isn’t like the other hs but she just didn’t work for me. she didn’t give me “ruthless-beta-bitch”. she really did give “freshly eighteen-petty bullshit is fun-chick”.
-all but one scene as beta was jucvebthe scene where she puts those chicks in the bar in place gave me middle school energy)

a good amount of time sw is successful with creating nefarious plots within the story so i did enjoy this one. but by the end there were too many variable left untidy. they got the bad guy, but what about the random info about potential subjects? only one of those were slightly resolved

i actually almost raised this rating bc the way sw dealt w. blair’s parents and finley was a fresh take (at least for the author)

more questions:
- is the poacher plot going to continue in the rest of the series? i think it should
- did luke not get touch hunter since he remained loyal for 6 years or does it not affect mated shifters?
- are readers supposed to buy into double jointed people as intimidating when showing off said talent??

anyway, i’m sleepy. still obsessed with this author, regardless that this is the lowest rating i’ve given her shifter books and this being my least favorite so far by her

absolutely disgusted by the set up of this book, it was unnecessary and honestly weird of her to have them meet when Blair is like 12 and he's in his twenties. even if she describes the mating bond as a protective platonic feeling, the rest of the series and of her shifter work bases that bond almost entirely in sex. then we get to know that he's been a presence in her life, that they def do basically almost sex before she turns 18 and it just walks a very close line to grooming and grossness. I don't really have an issue with age gaps as a whole, but this one was just not cool with me tbh. wish she'd had them meet, realize and then be separated because Blairs pack or whatever moved. Or have them meet when Blair is 18, that's still a sizable gap and Wright would have been able to explore some of the same stuff. But without almost crossing the line into pedo.

Also and on a much more petty level - can we be done with these stupid small animals? don't get me wrong, pallas cats are cool and whatever, but a bush dog or a red panda or whatever aren't taking out a grizzly they just aren't. it's dumb.

other then those two elements, this book was fine. it was nice to have a toxic family actually confront their toxicity and fix it, instead of our main couple recognizing/accepting toxicity and just allowing them to stay in their lives.
