Four sexy, dangerous dragons. And a naive little kitten.
They're the strongest shifters in the realm, as close as brothers, ruthlessly commanding the Four Armies against the high fae. Everyone fears the dragon warlords and their frightening powers. No woman could ever come between them.
Until they discovered me.
A prophecy long ago predicted the White Dragon would end a great war. I used to believe in our savior, until I found out it was me. At least I get to train with the sexiest men around.
As the only female dragon in existence, they all want me. A strong protector, a chivalrous prince, a handsome bully, and a draconian general. With four gorgeous guys vying for my attention, why choose?
White Fire is the first book in the fantasy White Dragon series, a reverse harem dragon shifter romance with a HEA at the end of the series. For readers 18+
I am not sure I will continue with this series even if I have a healthy dose of curiosity of how it will go. Spoilers maybe?
Alright. First and foremost the interactions between her and the two men were very "rapey" and her "wanting it" was very forced. I usually don't blink an eye at dubcon or the MMC being an asshole and sleeping with the fmc, but the way this one laid out made me cringe I was so uncomfortable. Starting with Andre. He picks her to mate with, not giving a second thought because obviously women are made for breeding right. Then when she's recaptured he tries to sleep with her telling her she will like it (ick activated). Then after she transforms into it the prophesized savior he ties her up and forces her around. Okay not great. Then we all of a sudden have to believe he actually cares for her in under 100 pages and wants to sleep with her, yet he never actually stands up for her or does anything to show anything. Cool cool. Next. Castiel. What the hell was that. Everything about this character was throwing off not good vibes. There apparently is a thin line between "dominant sexy shifter" and "total controlling creep", want to guess how I felt.? And of course he's awful and hot and cold and she is so confused. Mam you should not be confused he is a dick. The whole time. These events you think are confusing you are not in fact confusing, he still sucks. But again we have to believe by the end that he wants to protect her, care for her, and hookup? Kay. Next and certainly not least our main character.
I am STRUGGLING to remember the world in which she grew up in does not value women and relegates them to breeding. The number of time I repeated this in 120 pages would actually astound you. She is weak, and flakey and goes from I have to do this for my people to oh my God how could I have been chosen everyone hates me *insert crying*. She also is a doormat. The men did ZERO to make you like them. I can't point to a single conversation or event that says yup they definitely are into her, yet she's a purring weepy gross mess. And this above all of my other issues with this book will probably make me not read the next book. Why you ask.? We are set up for a book two journey book that includes the warlord that is just "so mean to her". So an internal monologue of that for a majority of the next book would be torture. Even if I want to see her eventually hook up with the ONLY PERSON WHO TRIED TO STAND UP FOR HER AT ALL Sven.
Honestly, no world building, no plot aside from there is a war and she's a savior. If it was my rule to not rate lower than a two because it is hard to write a book this would probably get a 1 star review.
I am not a fan of Kalani after the first 2 chapters. At first I thought she was super brave and strong trying to steal her brother away. But then she gets to the castle and suddenly she is all meek and mild, like a scared little girl. I get the guys being pig-headed. When you live in a world ruled by men, and women are nothing more than wombs and nannies until the children can either be trained as a soldier or as a future womb; their egos tend to be enormous. I don't like the way they speak to and about her but I put that on her shoulders because she doesn't even TRY to defend herself. Very two dimensional character.
I will read the next book because I am interested in the story.
Interesting world. Needs character building improvement; they aren't really multidimensional. Wish each book would be longer. It's on me that I didn't notice the length. Only continuing out of curiosity.
This was an epic disappointment. The premise is interesting but all the characters re bland, there is no rhyme or reason for their actions and choices. There is no banter and FMC is bluh - and I have not ever thought I would ever think that.
