The Dark #4

Because of the Dark

Wes
I lost my dream. My scholarship.
My only choice was to start over, away from everything I knew and cared about.
All because my loyalty was challenged.

I was driven by anger and resentment toward the people I had once trusted with my life.
Until I was almost run off the road.

Kingsley
This was not the plan. I wasn't supposed to stay.
The course of my future changed one fateful afternoon.
I ran into him: Weston Sheats—literally.

For over a year, I remained in the shadows. The need for him to notice me, just once, made me step out of the dark.

I swore I wouldn't let him get close, wouldn't get attached. I failed.

An unexpected turn of events was the wake-up call I needed. I had to come clean. But would he accept my past?

Because of the Dark (BOTD) is the fourth book in The Dark series. BOTD is an interconnected standalone and can technically be read without having read the first three books in the series, but I highly recommend reading them for a better reading experience.

After the events of the first three books in The Dark series, I was highly anticipating Wes’ story and could not wait to dive into it. In true Danah Logan fashion, every word of this book captivates you more and more into the mystery, intrigue, and suspense. I was hooked from the very first page and as the story progressed I was thrown for a loop.

I loved these characters so much. Wes and King’s chemistry was off the charts and they were truly each other’s soulmates. Without going into too many details both characters have complicated pasts and they are inexplicably drawn to each other. As secrets are revealed their relationship gets more complex.

It was fascinating to see how Danah Logan entwined details from the first three books to not only create an interesting read, but one that is packed with secrets, intrigue, romance, mystery, and betrayal. Wes and King’s story is full of gasp-inducing, shocking twists that will have you at the edge of your seat.

BOTD does end in an HEA but leaves me with some questions. I can’t wait for Denielle and Marcus’ story to get the answers I need!

Wes is back and he's all grown up. 🔥 This book was deliciously sexy and in typical Danah Logan fashion--there are twists and turns and heart-thumping suspense. The chemistry between Wes and K was off the charts and the emotion that Danah brought to the page caused my heart to ache and my eyes to glisten. Such a beautiful journey between these two characters in itself. With each page flipped, I was invested as if I were one of the characters.
5 amazing, wildly hot stars to this book. (Wes and K scorched the pages)

This is my first book by this arthur and damn can she spin a story. I love when I find new arthurs who write those dark, sexy, intriguing reads that you just can't put down and book friends this book has it.

This is the 1st book I've read in the series and it wasn't to hard to follow along you get to meet some of the side character's from the previous book"s.

This is about Wes Sheats finding his hea that he didn't know he'd found it until he see's her...Kingsley Monroe and he can't take his eyes off her even when she tries to run away.

Phew the chemistry these 2 put off anytime they were around each other was explosive and hot af and talk about some secrets being revealed in here no wonder Wes lost it a lil.

I don't want to give things away other than you need to read this going in blind. All it took for me was reading the blurb and I was hooked.

This is definitely a must read.

I can't wait to read the next in the series I'm sure there's going to be many unveiling of secrets.

Another brilliant read from this talented author of whom I can't get enough of.
I fluctuated from racing through this book and forcing myself to slow down, as I wanted answers so was scared of missing anything.
This book is obviously different than the previous ones as everything was crammed (in a good way) into one book rather than three. So trust me when I say that like the others your head will be exploding, but unlike the others you'll have no time to recover before being hit with more.
Whether you're new to this author or been here from the start, you'll find yourself riveted from cover to cover with mind blowing way of how she's managed to twine everything together. Lily and Rhys were always going to be tough to top after what they went through, but boy did Wes and King give them a run for their money.
Cannot wait to see what happens next.

Wes, Wes, Wes! I could not wait to read his story! You don't need to read the previous 3 but it would be beneficial to get the whole feel of the series. I loved the connection between Wes and King 🔥. I couldn't put the book down I was hooked! The other characters in the book had such great personality to add I wanted to know more. Of course the dark series wouldn't be without a twist!!! Great read! Can't wait to read the others!!

I received this as an ARC for an honest review. I love Wes’s story. It was what I had always wanted for him. While I was reading, I was always on the edge of my seat to see what would happen next. I love the banter between Wes and King; she was the missing piece to his puzzle. I love all of the characters. If I were reading this series for the first time, I wouldn’t have been lost; you get enough of the backstory from the characters to understand what is going on. I would have picked it up from the fantastic cover. I can’t wait for the rest of the series.

I've read all of Danah's books so far and most (wait, maybe all of them?) as an ARC. I am blown away by this freaking story. This unbelievable rollercoaster of a story is not 33 chapters... it starts back at book 1. Do you HAVE to read book 1? No. Should you read book 1-3? YES.

Being a Danah fan already, I came into this book expecting some sick twists. I would almost identify my attitude as guarded. Was I still wildly incorrect in my suspicions? Yes ma'am, I was. She does a great job of making my stomach drop at the WTF moments and keeps my attention with building supporting detail and giving creative descriptions that are enjoyable but then somehow end up being the actual breaking point of the story.

Absolutely Amazing!

I received an ARC of this book but all my opinion are 100% my own!

First off if you plan to read this book I highly recommend going and reading books 1-3 first! Even if your not going to read this to read books 1-3 they are amazing! Just read them all I promise you won’t regret it! To fully enjoy this book I feel as you need to read the rest of the series first, with that being said you don’t not HAVE to it just make your reading experience more worth it!

I absolutely loved the characters in this book and how they didn’t quiet fit in the “box” of what some may expect but they were perfect. When I finished the first three books in the series I was for sure that Wes would end up with the “Bulldog” (read it you’ll understand). When I picked this book us and he didn’t I was honestly disappointed at first! But not for long because King and Wes are perfect for each other and the Bulldog makes for the perfect secondary character and cannot wait for her book!

This book has it all! The steam, laughs, and suspense! And best of all it’s was so unpredictable, I have read many many books and at times I find them predictable but this was not it!! Download today!!!

Until next time!

Loved this book!!! Wes was one of my favorite characters from the first three in this series, he’s such a sweet and smart individual, and loyal friend. The bad news/turning point in his life, on top of everything else he’s experienced, changed him. I felt so bad for him, since I thought he deserved a good life. And then in pops a love interest, King. An enigma to him. And oh goodness did I really like her when I first read her. (Still not as much as Him from book 2, but very close). I found myself wanting to know more about her as soon as possible, and read through the chapters very quickly just to find out more. This book has a ton of twists and turns, a handful I did not expect, and totally took me by surprise. Their love story is sweet, dark, suspenseful, gut-wrenching, and wonderful. And oh goodness, the bedroom scenes ;). This was a great read, and fast just because I wanted to get to the revealing/good parts (and there are a TON). You’ll love this read!!

P.s. personally, I would very strongly recommend reading the first three, since it gives a THE background to Wes and his beginnings, and gives more depth into other parts of this world, but it is not completely necessary.

I lost everything I had worked for because of my…friends.

Weston Sheats has changed since the boy everyone knew from high school, with the betrayal from his friends cutting him deep and his dream college gone but with a sudden offer from a pristine college instead, Wes has no choice but to accept.

Trying to rebuild some kind of a life for himself in the small town of Stonebriar Montana, Wes is throwing himself into becoming his football dream player and even stopped being the social partyplayer.

Until one night he nearly runs off the road and sees her behind the wheel…then everything changes.

I’m going to figure you out, King.

He never saw her coming and now he never wants to let her go. Her past is covered in darkness but, it’s a good thing Wes has played with the dark before and as soon as he steps forward the dark surrounds him once again leading him to question the girl in front of him.

Who is King really?

He was my distraction. My daydream. A dream that would never come true.

Life has dealt Kingsely a rough set of cards, from a young age she has had to fight for everything within her grasp and still it’s never enough to save her from the dark shadows that edge along her paths.

Unexpectedly finding herself in Stonebriar was never the plan. Lowering her guard and allowing others in-of only a step for some was something she never thought was possible. But, crossing paths Weston Sheats had her questioning weather to flee again…instead she watched his every move.

A feeling unlike anything she ever felt before was growing inside of her and all too soon Wes is standing in front of her. They formed a connection that neither of them saw coming. For the first time King felt settled in her life.

Girls like me didn’t get a happily ever after.

The only thing is the dark is never far away and has a way of creeping up behind you drawing you back within its clutches. It doesn’t care who is hurt and left with a bleeding heart.

I’d been away from her for far too long, fighting my own demons, and that it was time to change that.

Wes & King…<3 What twist of an unexpected couple these two ended up being!

First off, I like that Wes had a lot to deal with and how it was set out with his friends Lily & Rhys. It made sense that the events and their actions would cause ripples, it changed the dynamics within the close group and left Wes with only Danielle to turn to. Their friendship has only grown throughout the two years to where the story now takes place, having the slight time jump does help the story move forward and still having that connection to the previous characters also.

Wes has certainly grown as a character and even though he is damaged I enjoyed seeing a different side to him. Then seeing the difference when King arrived brought him out of the shell he’s been hiding behind even more.

King! Wow what a strong independent character with a very creative past she had! I loved King, she really was a great character and fell nicely into this world. From a young age she’s had a lot to deal with and then with the fear of her past chasing her away you start to uncover more about her and understand King character even more.

King knows she may be on borrowed time with Wes but, slowly her guard starts to drop around him and lets him in. I like that you can tell there is still more to her character and as the story flows you finally see how much she is keeping back.

This story is packed with emotion, drama, friendship and you see the characters battle with their inner demons as they rise to the surface waiting to drag them back down. With the previous character entwined you are able to catch up and see where their stories are also leading too.

“It’s like we’re always followed by the dark.”

It was so freaking good!

Because of the Dark is the fourth installment in The Dark series, can be read as a standalone, but I would advise to read the first three books focusing on Lilly and Rhys and then start this gem, for a better comprehension of the plot and background.
This story had me wrappend around her lil' finger since the beginning: Wes is all grown-up, in Montana trying to put his life in order after the blown-up of everything that happened previously and the aftermath of the actions of his friends. He's angry, hurt, lost and adrift, only cares for the game and his role in it and pretty much nothing else.....until her.
King is relentless, strong, fierce and independent, has a past and is in Stonebriar on borrowed time. She noticed Wes and likes what she sees, but getting near is strictly forbidden.
This is another well concocted narrative about family relationshios and the weight of actions, a love that wants to spring but is pretty much doomed, wills of freedom and unrelenting histories that won't forgive who dares to dream and enjoy. The writting runs steady and direct and the plot keeps way tight until near end, making for a great commitment to the intrigue and all the secrets around as well as the emotional rollercoaster that obliges the reader to live vicariously through the ups and downs, back and forths, care and dismissal, betrayal and want and that magnetic field of love and redemption. King and Wes are unexpected, raw and unforgiving, but among all that, they are simply perfect.
Just like with Danah's previous stories, this one reveals important answers and posts another deal of questions that will certainly be clarified in the near future - the sooner the better, I hope - with new secrets, hidden agendas and undiluted feellings.
Danah nailed it again!
Congratulations!

This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more! Danah's writing is something incredible, and she easily makes me fall in love with her characters almost immediately. Wes and King have a place in my heart right next to so many other fictional characters that I love so much. Even without having read the first three books in The Dark series I didn't feel like I was missing out on any information. Danah gives enough context within this book to allow this interconnected novel to stand on it's own, but she also withholds enough not to spoil big pieces of the books that come before it.

This this story kept me on the edge of my seat page after page. It is so well crafted, and I honestly never wanted to put it down. The dark elements of the story are weaved so well with the romance that forms between Wes and King, and neither element takes away from the other.

Within this story a man who lost his future and a woman who is fighting to survive will have to cipher through all the secrets and betrayal that unravel before them while also fighting for what they want with each other. A love that was meant to fail can very well become what keeps they tethered when all else fails.

Thank you Danah and Mary for an arc of this incredible book. For anymore that loved this story I hope they will love Followed by the Dark (book 5). I've been lucky enough to become an alpha reader for it, and let me just say it is already phenomenal and I've only read several chapters.

Wes was best friends with Rhys & Lilly (Books 1-3) until his life was derailed from it, so now he feels really betrayed in the aftermath. He hasn't talked to either of them for a cool minute, and he ends up going to a school to play football that he would have never thought would happen, and he's doing his best to achieve his dreams. King is living under the radar, but in that time, she's become quite obsessed with Wes, and for a long time, he never knew she was there until he did, so a new journey is started. King has a lot of secrets that won't make friends, and even when she's copped to one or two of them, the biggest secret of all will destroy anything she may have going with Wes. This book took it all out of me because I was on the edge of my seat cover to cover, and it was quite lengthy as I waited for all the answers. And even when I thought I had them all, BAM! The biggest one of all really did my emotions in as I could feel King's pain through it all, and I found myself ready to hurt Wes at the end of the day. This story was intense & I LOVED every minute of it, but now I find myself waiting impatiently for the next book since Den & Marcus have me so intrigued! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ Heat: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Angst: 💣💣💣💣 Plot: 📚📚📚📚📚

Do I recommend? Yes but I didn’t read the first 3 books and I think I would have loved this even more if I had read those.

Tropes: romantic suspense

Wes Sheats used to have a life full of dreams and a future until he lost it. Along with his dreams and future, he lost most of his friends and his scholarship. When Wes meets Kingsley Monroe, they find a kinship in each other. There is just as much mystery in King's life as there is in Wes'. Their chemistry is through the roof. The unexpected twists and turns had me flipping pages at warp speed anxious to see where their journey would take them. You’ll be tempted by secrets and enough intrigue to have you turning pages until late into the night. My emotions were put through the ringer. I am definitely planning to read the earlier books and any published in the coming months. This is my honest opinion, freely given.

Lets just start by saying I love Lilly and Rhys's story and if you haven't read it yet you need to it is fantastic. So now on to King and Wes and their story. King is one bad a*s chick, you most definitely do not want to mess with her. She is the bomb. She is a take no crap off of anyone. Wes oh how I love him. He has a heart of gold even after feeling betrayed by his friends. Unbeknownst to Wes, King and him share a twist in their lives. When they finally meet, sparks fly even still, King tries to stay away from Wes knowing if his finds out her secret he will hate her and that is the last thing she wants. They both finally give in to their lust and find a love and friendship that they never believed would happen. Wes believes its forever and King knows that it can't last. When something happens that King can't control Wes feels that she has betrayed and used him in the worse way. Can he ever forgive her. I am so glad these two got their happy ending it definitely was a fight to the end. If you love highly intense, suspenseful and keep you on the edge of your seat kind of story this book is for you. You will absolutely love it. Most definitely recommend this book.

I loved every second of this book.

Wes was there for Rhys with everthing but when Rhys takes matters into his own hands after Wes asks him not to, Wes feels betrayed again so he leaves all that he knows and loves behind. He needs space after everything that went down with Lilly.

King is running from her own past, but when she bumps into Wes she becomes obsessed until one day he finally notices her he's hooked. King knows that her secrets will crush Wes when he finds them out. Before she has the chance to tell him it all goes wrong. Can the love they have for each other be enough for her secret?

Because of The Dark has all the twists and turns. King and Wes have all the tension 🥵 I can't wait for more of this series!

Although this is the 4th book in this series it is the first book I’ve read. Which can be read as a standalone but advised against it. I wish I would’ve read the other 3 first, but I will read them all after reading this one!!!

I love Wes from the beginning. King was hiding her secrets and unfortunately Wes found out before she was able to tell him. Will they survive her secrets? Will he be able to forgive her?

This book had so much suspense, angst, chemistry, steam, secrets and heart wrenching emotions that will leave you in a book slump when you’re done. A masterpiece of Wes and Kings story. The twists and turns were not expected whatsoever. You will not be sorry reading this!!! A true page turner.

Wes Sheats.
The cocoa loving Best friend of Rhys and Lilly, just can't seem to get away from the darkness that ruined his life 2 years prior.
Until he Meets Kingsley Monroe, and everything slots Into place, and they are incredibly drawn to each other. I absolutely loved this book, it was so much more than what I thought it would be all the twists and surprises... You don't see them coming and i loved that!
So excited for Denielle and Marcus's story next.. Danah has smashed them all so far. Wes and King are by far my favourite. Their story is full of wonder, excitement, hate, confusion, love... Everyone needs their own Sheats 😉 10/10! ♥

WOW! Wes and King’s story was exceptional!! The secrets that slowly get revealed over time blew me away. I was not expecting some of those twists – they came out of nowhere and smacked me in the face! Definitely many WTF moments throughout. And talk about jaw dropping revelations - DAMN!! This phenomenal author weaves a complex and suspenseful story like no other!

Wes and King had me completely enthralled. The build up towards their first eye connecting moment was extremely intense and when it happens – BOOM – fireworks! These two are so right for each other. Their connection is instantaneous, and their chemistry is explosive. But the gut-wrenching secrets between them had me holding my breath in anticipation of one hell of an explosion when it all gets revealed.

This story is brilliantly written! Filled with shocking secrets, intrigue, betrayals, suspense, steamy moments and twists and turns you never see coming. Plus connecting the story to the previous three books and bringing back other characters made it even more entertaining to read. Definitely a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails with anticipation, and leaving you breathless.

I can’t wait for more!

amazing amazing amazing!!

This one took me on a beautiful emotional ride! ❤️ initially I was so disappointed Wes didn’t end up ditch Denielle but I am SO glad Danah proved me wrong and that King came into the picture as his perfect match!

I absolutely adored both of these characters They had me swooning, seething and then back to swooning. Other main characters were sprinkled in to make the perfect addition. I love that I thought I knew what was going on and then was thrown for the perfect loop! The last 15% of the story had me in tears on multiple occasions. Just perfection. I highly, highly recommend you drop what you are doing and read Because of the Dark RIGHT NOW!

I knew I would 5 star this book when I wasn’t even 30% of the way in!!!

That’s how amazingly good the sexy chemistry was between Wes and King. There’s so much drama, suspense and unresolved history but the HEA on the other side was well worth the fight.

Also add in their entertaining friends with their own hidden issues and I was hooked.

Even though this book can be read as a standalone, it hits waaaaay better if you read the first 3 books in this series. Trust me 😁

Danah Logan is back with a new book in her The Dark series, and it is just as incredible as the others! We get to see the relationship between Wes and Kingsley grow and it was so needed for this series. I've loved Wes since he was introduced and his chemistry with Kingsley is off the charts. The plot was intriguing and of course had some twists and turns you wouldn't expect.

Having read the three previous installments in The Dark Series i've been wanting to pick up more of Ms.Logan's work! The second this fourth installment was announced i instantly started looking forward to it! I picked it up and got back into The Dark world! I so enjoyed it!

Wes and King's journey grabbed my attention so quickly! I've been so curious about Wes and was so glad i got to dig into his mind as well as King's. I wasn't sure what all to expect and i really liked the way this story kept me on my toes! Both characters had me feeling so much throughout!

I enjoyed what the other characters brought to the story as well!

With Because of The Dark, Ms.Logan has created such a good read that will pull you in! Definitely check this series out! I am so looking forward to the fifth installment, Denielle's book Followed by the Dark!

This was a fantastic read with great suspense and some twists that I absolutely was not expecting. Wes is such a wonderful character and I loved reading his journey after all he had been through. The relationship between King and Wes is epic and I enjoyed the tension between the two of them. This was such a wonderful story and absolutely has some amazing twists that you won't see coming! You are able to read this book as a standalone but I suggest reading the first three books because they are fantastic!

I loved King and Wes' story! King is literally hiding in the shadows until she can’t stay hidden anymore and bumps into Wes and that moment changes everything for both of them. They both have gone through so much that the way they dealt with life made sense given the hand they were dealt
