Can the right Daddy make a stubborn desert flower blossom?
Landscape architect Jolene Miller is on a mission and nothing is going to stop her. Hired to restore the landscaping surrounding the vintage Route 66 motel where she met and married her late husband, she's determined to have everything her way - no matter how many times her employers threaten to fire her.
When retired Navy captain Zach Stratton is called in to assist with a 'brat problem,' he jumps at the chance to see his old friends. It doesn't hurt that the brat in question is gorgeous, stubborn, and exactly what he never knew he needed. All he has to do is convince her to take a chance on them both.
USA Today bestselling author Raisa Greywood loves to write stories that make her readers wonder if they should laugh or cry. Or even better, do both at the same time! She takes special delight in turning traditional romance tropes upside down and shaking them until something fun falls out.
Raisa lives in the midwestern United States with two cats who share one brain cell, and her husband, who taught her how to write great enemies to lovers stories over thirty years ago, and who still brings her flowers.
As usual, Raisa Greywood hits it out of the ballpark. I loved this introduction to Club Apocalypse, seeing it before it is even open and getting a sense of the history of the location as well as the new owners. I also loved Jolene (what a name choice!) and Zach and the sizzling hot chemistry. He is one heck of a Daddy Dom and everything that she needs.
This is a quick, hot, and satisfying Daddy Dom story!
Grim’s Little Reaper was originally a part of the 2021 Dirty Daddies anthology. But after reading War’s Peace,i wanted to revisit Zach and Jolene’s story. Since it’s now a freebie on Apple Books,i quickly downloaded it and got back to Club Apocalypse.
Jolene lost her husband 5 years ago,and hasn’t dealt with her loss yet. Hired by 4 ex army men to do the garden of their new club, they clash about their goals. She wants to get a little of the vibe back from the time she and her late husband Ben were regulars. Restore nature to what it used to be. They want a garden to go with the club. Green, but not too expensive. Having tried everything, the men finally call their old captain,Zach. Once he’s persuaded to come over,he recognizes a little in need of a Daddy. And while he’s avoided commitment until now,he wants to try with Jolene. She stirrs something in him,and since he’s no longer in active duty,he’s free to commit. But can she forgive herself for leaving her beloved Ben behind? The Daddy that told her to find someone new after his death?
This was still the sweet short story i remembered and loved. And i loved it just as much this time. I can only hope to hear more of these delicious Horsemen soon…..
Good start to the Club Apocalypse series. Aside from the story about Zach and Jolene meeting and becoming a couple. We have the building of the actual club. Enjoyable and informative read.
Grim’s Little Reaper by Raisa Greywood – A red head named Jolene? I’m gonna have Dolly stuck in my head for the rest of this book which isn’t the worst fate by far! I love the second chance romance in this one! And I want the Four Horseman’s stories now too!!!! Happy Reading!!
Lack of communication and frustration bring Grim and Jolene together. Nice to read about flawed characters that manage a good life despite their ailments. Raisa Greywood has a talent, glad I found her.
The story is an excellent set-up for the new Club Apocalypse series. A group of four men have bought an old motel and diner and are restoring them and making a unique BDSM club. They try to keep the landscape to match, but their landscape architect, Jolene Miller, has become unreasonable. Will their former Captain be able to work his magic with her?
Zach: The attitude is unnecessary, Jolene. Daddy doesn't like when pretty little girls talk back. Jolene: I'm sorry I was a brat, Daddy. Zach: That's my good girl.
The story's plot will bring Zach and Jolene together to solve problems. It's been five years since the death of her dominant husband, Ben, and Zach brings all those memories and desires to the surface, which scares her. The chemistry between these two is an erotic dance of lust, desire, passion, and pleasure. Will Jolene acquiesce to Zach's dominance and discipline? Has Zach found the missing link in his life since his military retirement?
Zach: Tell me why you haven't used a safeword? Jolene: I don't want to. It won't come out because you might go away.
The story has two strangers meeting, yet the chemistry is instant. They are both in their forties, but that doesn't stop the feelings. Zach scolds her, disciplines her, holds her, and eventually makes love to her. Will these two take the chance to have a future together?
I loved the story and especially liked Zach and Jolene together. This story was featured in the 2021 Dirty Daddies Anthology. Now, I am excited to read more in this new series.
This book rubbed me the wrong way. I understand it's a novella, but we (as the reader) barely had an intro to the characters, and things moved waaaaaay too fast
Now, I can not fully blame that on the story itself, given I didn't read the other books. I didn't realize it was a series. This book was a free impulse download on Stuff Your Kindle Day. However, there were a couple of things related to THIS book that bothered me.
First of all, these men are opening up a whole BDSM club and apparently don't know what consent looks like. Zach had insisted upon an honorific when he first met Jolene as well as punished her when he had no right to do so. Sure, she was into it, but what if she hadn't been?? Those are both 2 very red flags, especially when no dynamic between the two was agreed upon. They had just met!
It's giving toxic. He just came on way too strong for someone who didn't even know the woman a day ago. Like.... just no. There was no vetting process, just
"I'm your Daddy,"
"Okay, Daddy,"
And the relationship with the horsemen was weird too. They fired her a bunch of times, but she kept coming back... and they kept paying her anyway?
It's just all around a weird, icky story where consent was questionable, but hey, it is not like the guys are running a club where one of the main rules of the dynamics is consent..... oh, wait.
Romance trope: DD/lg Series: Club Apocalypse Length: 90 pages
Plot: The four guys building Club Apocalypse have recruited their old commander to spend some time with them and help them out at the soon-to-be sex club. In particular, they need help dealing with the landscaper, Jolene, who wants them to do things that aren't in their budget. She's a bit of a brat, according to them, and Zach is just the person who can help. When he sees Jolene, he absolutely agrees; they'll come to an accord one way or another.
Commentary: Originally found in Dirty Daddies: 2021 Anniversary Anthology and introduces the Club Apocalypse series. I think this was meant to be DD/lg, but there wasn't any age play, really, just some punishment, so for me it didn't hit that vibe exactly. I think if I kept reading the series, there might be some expansion of that kink, though? I liked that the characters were older, even though I objected a little to the characterization of Jolene as a brat. She was working with the information that the guys gave her, and they didn't tell her anything, so she was only reacting to the situation with the info they gave her and the expertise she had. I was pleased to see that they actually apologized to her for that - I find that to actually be pretty rare in bdsm/DD/lg kind of books; the guy rarely apologizes even when he needs to. In the end, it was a little sweet and I hope that the rest of the series will include glimpses of the pair. The one thing that really bothered me is that all of a sudden, Zach and all the guys were like, "I'm sorry, I see now why this is so important to you" but there was never any discussion about why that was. Jolene never told them why the project was important to her. They saw the wedding photo but they made a leap of logic and all of a sudden, it was something they all knew? Didn't make sense, and I went back and read that section twice looking for the conversation she had with them about that (a conversation that I muse have missed completely).
3.25 Got this on free stuff your kindle day. It is a very short prequel to the main series. I was honestly drawn in by the landscaping element and I loved the descriptions and comments about all the desert plants. That was my favorite part.
Daddy/Little is not my kink but it was interesting. I don’t think I will continue the series. One of my main issues was that the writing was just so farfetched and felt a bit goofy, taking me out of the story. Kinda cheesy how all these ex military guys have the nicknames Grim, Death, War, Famine and Pestilence. As if any of those are easier to say than their real names.
It bothered me that he started spanking and scening with her immediately after they met and they had no conversation or agreement about their roles, his rules or her consent. He didn’t even know if she was kinky! She was a hired landscape architect for the business. If a guy did that to me, I think I’d break his arm.
This was an okay read. At first, Zach was not really my cup of tea. He just jumped right into spanking Jolene even though they had just met. Throughout the book he did redeem himself. I also got annoyed with Jolene at some points to though. She was getting mad because they were not following her dreams. They literally hired her to do the garden of their nightclub. She knew what she was getting into. In the end, they both fixed those issues, though, and ended up getting together.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I liked it, just an into to Club Apocalypse but a nice fit for each other especially since he just starts off in “Daddy” mode as she’s being a Little Bratty😉😅👍
I have very mixed feelings about this novella -- It is more like 3.5 stars, but I rounded up.
This is a prequel to the Club Apocalypse series. It is meant to be an introduction to the main characters (as often happens in a BDSM club series, that primarily means the male Doms). But since this is the prequel, we are starting from scratch, so there is no prior work to read first.
Four military (clearly special forces) guys who are now out are putting together a BDSM club/resort out in the desert. They call their former leader, who is also out and at loose ends, and say they need help with a recalcitrant landscaper (Jolene) who will not do what they say and they figure their former leader, Zach, can tame the brat. Um, OK.
Problem one -- the whole "fire her/don't fire her" thing simply does not work like that. You can't fire her and then she just shows up and keeps landscaping, and they you keep paying her anyways, rinse and repeat. I mean, no...
Zach comes down, barely introduces himself to Jolene, decides she has been working for enough hours for the day, and spanks her when she doesn't listen. So Problem two -- "consent". Seriously, people.
And they are hot and heavy rather instantly (with, of course, the obligatory reluctance and "What can he/she see in me?" and all that). I guess I can sort of forgive the breakneck speed because of the novella format, but, yeah, crazy fast.
Anyways, enough of the bad stuff. Jolene is a really great character and a very cute bratty baby girl (who does not do any kind of age play). Zach is a great Daddy Dom. The "Four Horsemen" club founders are going to be a lot of fun as we meet them in future books. The spanking and sex scenes are hot and great, and the physical limitations of characters over 40 is amusingly noted.
This wasn't bad. I am not into the daddy thing at all, but it was easily ignored here. Being a novella, the story is obviously short, but I think it worked. Jolene works as a wildlife preservationist (or something similar) and has been hired to work on the landscaping for a new club being opened up in an old hotel or something used to be. This was the place that she had met her now deceased husband and has so many good memories of with him. She wants to restore it to it's former desert glory to honor him. But the men who own the place keep trying to fire her because she is constantly fighting with them to spend more and more on her projects. That's where Zach comes in. He was their former captain in the Navy and they believe that he will be able to bring Jolene to heel. Despite the fact their first meeting really rubbed me the wrong way (he immediately starts spanking this woman he JUST met!!) I ended up kind of liking Zach. He was very level headed about everything and never got worked up, instead he would work thru things calmly. He quickly figured out why the guys and Jolene were constantly butting heads, and he treats Jolene the way she needs to open up about why she reacts the way she does sometimes and why this place was so important to her. I don't really feel one way or another about how this ended, but I do think they are probably going to make a good couple in the rest of the series. Will I find out? Who knows. But I don't think I'd be too adverse to it.
Grim’s Little Reaper is the first installment in Raisa Greywood’s Club Apocylpse series. In this age-play she chronicles the romantic journey of Jolene Miller and Zach Straton. Both are middle aged. She is a widowof five years and he a bachelor. Ben’s death devastated her as he was both husband and Daddy. Zach choose the military as his career and asr such chose to remain single so as not to leave a wife and Little alone if he died. Destiny brings them together in Winslow, Arizona through the start up of a BDSM club, Apocalypse Club, run by the four Horsemen (men who served under him. Sparks fly when Jolene and Zach meet? Are they daring enough to set aside their emotional baggage and follow their heart? Will it be an easy or bumpy road? To discover what unfolds you must read this book.
As usual Ms. Greywood does an outstanding job garnering her readers’ attention. Her talent in creating multi-dimensional characters, rich dialog (both conversational and monologues), and vivid scenes move this character-driven plot along. I appreciated that she had the lead characters in their middle age years. As the first installment in the series, Ms. Greywood introduces her readers to a small cast of secondary characters in the four Horsemen; thereby, setting up the subsequent books in this series to entice her readers. Nicely done, Ms. Greywood.
This is the first book by Raisa. This book was a fantastic read. I couldn’t put it down once I started. Jolene has been hired as a landscaper architect. Hired to restore the landscape around a motel on route 66 that hold special meaning to her. She keeps asking for more than can be given to her. Zach is contacted by his former seal team who are opening a bdsm club. They have a brat problem that they need Zach’s help with. Zach doesn’t hesitate to help them out. He is struck by Jolene. He can tell there is more going on then they know. He is going to figure it out and let the guys know. Jolene is a brat but not to just be one. It is a shield of sorts to protect herself. She may find more than she was bargaining for with this job. This book was a great read. Jolene was part of the lifestyle with her husband. Zach can tell she knows of the lifestyle. They tick all of each other’s boxes but they need to figure somethings out if they want to have a future. I can’t wait to read more books in this series. As well as Raisa’s other books. I can’t say enough about this book.
Landscape architect Jolene Miller has been hired to restore the landscaping around a vintage Route 66 motel where she had met and married her late husband. Determined to have her way, she does not care what a brat she is, whether her employers can afford the time or cost, or even if they threaten to fire her. Zach Stratton is a retired Navy captain and has been called in to assist some old friends with their "brat problem" even though she is gorgeous, stubborn and exactly what he never knew he needed. He just needs to persuade her to take a chance on them both.
I struggled with this story and I think that was because it focused a lot on her and she was such a brat or complete an utter prima donna determined to have her way that it lost me. I did like Zach and the cool and calm way he handled her like a skittish horse. It was easy to read and understand. Contains mature content.
I’m surprised I liked this one as much as I did. It has several tropes/themes that aren’t my thing. First of all, I am not really into older protagonists. I get why some people like it, but I am “not as young as I used to be” all day everyday, I prefer books that let me forget about that for a while. Secondly, I am not a fan of grief for a former partner as a plot point. Lastly, I don’t care for lifestyle BDSM. That I found the story worth reading despite all of that shows what a well crafted book it is. The characters are great, daddy kink was well done, there wasn’t a lot of sex but there was good sexual tension throughout.
I won’t be continuing the series because a BDSM resort is not for me, but I will be looking into the author to see if they write other kinds of romance.
Nice introduction to Club Apocalypse, the owners and its surroundings. Zach Stratton is a retired Captain and formr commanding officer of the Four Horsemen team aptly named Death, War, Pestilence and Famine. He's a lttle bored with retired so getting a call from the team to come help out with a couple of problems they're experiencing getting ready for the club's opening gives him purpose. Jolene Miller, environmental landscape architect, is giving the team a run for their money by being demanding and unbending. She's definitely one of the problems they need Zach to fix. The chemistry is instant. Zach goes into full Daddy mode to rein the bratty baby girl in. She might balk but she doesn't run. These two forty somethings find what they're looking for in each other. Let the games begin.
When he received a phone call, Zach was a bit surprised. Seems four of the young men, aka the four horsemen, who served under him in the Navy were building a BDSM club around an old diner in Arizona. Receiving an invitation to come out for a visit and help with putting things together was one thing but they were evidently having problems with the woman doing the landscaping and needed a persuasive Daddy to help with the problem. A second chance story with an older Hero and heroine with strong personalities. What a terrific find!
I’d already read War’s Peace before I found this book, which is an introduction to a series. This is a sweet, sexy love story between two older adults. She is struggling with the loss of her past love and her determination to honor that past. He was asked to rein in her stubborn insistence on doing her job her way and she triggers his dominant tendencies. But he’s not ready to let her run from him, having found the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life with.
3.5 Stars. It was a cute introduction to the Club Apocalypse Series. I loved that it featured "older" main characters, as in over 30 and I thought Zach and Jolene had great chemistry together. (Unfortunately I had Jolene by Dolly Parton and In The Navy by The Village People stuck in my head for the entire time I was reading it.) I just wished that there was some sort of epilogue or extra chapter to sort of tie the story together after issues with miscommunication. I am interested to see where the series goes though and meeting the other couples.
I grabbed this book because it was clearly an older couple, and a kinky one at that.... That combination is hard to find so I wanted to give this book a whirl.
I've only read maybe one of Raisa's books before but knew she writes kink and romance in the way that I enjoy, and this one was all sorts of fun.
Plenty of sassy brat behavior rolled in this story to keep me smiling...my kind of FMC.
Eh. This is a novella so I know it’s not going to be the most in depth but it was just alright. I’m not into the daddy thing - but I can easily overlook that. There were some parts and scenes and really rubbed me the wrong way and overall it just seemed too neat and pretty. A lot of missed opportunities. May continue to read the next one and see if it’s any better
Would I recommend: no Would I read more by this author: maybe
GRIM'S LITTLE REAPER is a prequel novella to the Club Apocalypse series and in it we meet Jolene, a widow who has been asked to landscape the grounds of the club where she and her husband to go. She is constantly butting heads with the owners but they bring in their secret weapon - Grim. He sees past her prickly exterior and acknowledges the pain inside.
This is a short but satisfying read that is a good introduction to the club before it opens.
I totally loved this book and would thoroughly recommend it hoping that others enjoy it as well. Zach has come at the request of his former team members to help with the setting up of their BDSM club. Also they have asked Zach to help sort out Jolene their landscaper gardener as she is being stubborn about what she wants to do. Sparks fly when they meet but can they overcome any setbacks that they might face.
DNF - I was super excited for this as I love DD/lg and brats, but the number one rule in BDSM is consent and that was never given before he does something only someone with consent should do, so I’m not finishing. BDSM already gets a bad reputation due to inaccurate portrayals, if authors want to write about that community they need to be more thorough with their research and get advice from people in that lifestyle.
Zach was the CO of the 'Horsemen', and when they are having trouble with Jolene, they ask for his help. A short Daddy Dom tale introducing Club Apocalypse. Jolene is a mother and a widow in her early forties, while Zach is older. Despite the brief length, the two protagonists come to life and it is easy to engage with their story. Scenes befitting of the Dom/sub relationship.
Not my jam. I don't really go for the daddy thing. Also not a huge fan of spanking. I also don't like adult men being condescending and treating adult women like people that can't take care of themselves on their own. I don't mind bdsm, just not into this style. The native plant restoration was nice.
