Billionaire Next Door #1

The Billionaire's Nanny

When I convinced my friends to join me in a scheme to play the stock market, it paid off beyond our expectations. Honestly, most days I don’t even remember that I’m a billionaire. But it was big news for my family. In fact, my cousin made me guardian of her son in the event something happened to her.

At face value, it sounds kind of nice.

But I never really knew my cousin.

And I only found out about her decision a week before the kid showed up on my doorstep.

Thankfully, the woman who brought the boy out to me on the plane is willing to stay and be his nanny.

Since all the local daycares have a waiting list, I don’t have the luxury of being picky. Maybe I have reservations about sharing my home with a beautiful woman, but it’s a completely professional relationship.

She’s going to look after the kid.

I’m going to look after my heart.

Me: (sorting through the books on my tippy-toppy TBR pile) It's time.
Inner Book Nerd: (bouncing up and down excitedly) Why so dramatic? It's always time to read around here!
Me: (holding up the chosen book in a triumphant Rocky stance) It's time to break out of our reading comfort zone again and try...
Inner Book Nerd: (eyes bugging out of her ashen face) No...not that. I'm not ready. I need a comfort read. What about a Regency? That's nice and safe. Or a cozy mystery? We love cozies!
Me: Remember, we're not looking for safe. We're looking to step into brave new fictional worlds with tropes we think we might not like. New reading adventures to stretch our boundaries and add spice to our reading lives!
Inner Book Nerd: (writhing on the floor, clutching her stomach and moaning.) B-b-b-b-billionaires? We don't like billionaires.
Me: (rolling my eyes) Now who's being dramatic? And we've actually never met any billionaires -- in real life or the pages of a book so we can't say for sure that we won't like them as heroes.
Inner Book Nerd: But they are self-centred and conceited and lord around their cushy penthouse apartments, paying for luxuries gained on the backs of the barely-making-ends-meet working man. They're exploiters and pompous and...and...gah! No. Just no!
Me: (dragging IBN into the reading nook and pushing her into the comfy chair then sitting on her so she can't escape.) Now, we don't know if any of that is actually true. Let's meet Elizabeth Maddrey's billionaire and see what he's like...

Several hours later:

Inner Book Nerd: (in a panic-laced voice verging on a wail) Wait -- what are you doing? Why are closing the book? Where are you going? Come back here. I want more story!
Me: We finished the book. It's time for me to write the review.
Inner Book Nerd: (whimpering) I'm not ready for it to be over. (stomping her foot) I. Want. More. Billionaire. Story.
Me: You know, you are really hard to live with sometimes.

And so begins another saga in the life of a comfort seeking reader who starts to dabble in previously dreaded tropes and themes. I am happy to report that I (and my inner book nerd) were whole-heartedly wrong in all our billionaire prejudices.

The Billionaire's Nanny is brilliant and witty and fun and heart-tugging and gasp-out-louding and infused with so much faith it not only made my heart sing, but my soul as well!

Love the way Maddrey set up the series in this book. We meet all the guys -- great, solid, Christ following men who take their new found wealth in stride. I won't share all the lovely details of their journey -- but I love that the those details are there and we get a such an intriguing look into Scott's heart and how he handles the life changes.

And I had to chuckle over Whitney, walking into the situation with some of the same preconceived prejudices I had. She's off kilter from the meet-cute right on through and I love the way her prickly self slowly softens as she begins to realize what a great, grounded guy Scott really is.

And then there's adorable, traumatized Beckett who has lost so much and has to face so many unexpected changes at his young age. Heart tugging moments abound.

I was so excited about the way this book ended on such a high note along with the teaser epilogue from Austin's perspective that I rushed right to my laptop to order the second book in the series, The Billionaire's Best Friend, only to find out it doesn't release until July! (Pulling a pouty face and stomping to sulk in a corner with my Inner Book Nerd.)

Another start to another fun new series by Elizabeth Maddrey!
When I first started reading “Billionaire” stories I thought, “Oh, these are just going to be fluff books.” But I was wrong!
These books written by Elizabeth Maddrey have so much more in them. Each of her books has a wonderful lesson that we all can learn. She covers things that are relatable to all of us even though these guys are billionaires.
Money doesn’t have to be the main thing or make a person lay around eating bon-bons all day long. In these stories, the author shows the human side of the characters and all their struggles.
A crazy opportunity that changed lives, an unexpected phone call, a dream crashes, and a sweet little life needing love. These are all the things that happen in this book that will draw you in and make your heart melt.
The way Elizabeth Maddrey weaves this story together is so tender and delightful. I was captured by the main characters and also by all of the friends who I’m sure we’ll see later. I actually read this book in one day and didn’t want it to end. This story brought a smile to my face and warm fuzzies in my heart.
If you enjoy romance and fun books then you’ll like this story. I highly recommend you pick it up.

Good overall. Some Christian themes could use more work to come off less judgmental. I felt that the backstory of Shelby Ann and Whitney was not well explained.

Enjoyable sweet romance

I've read a lot of Ms. Maddrey's other books, and I enjoyed this one as well. I'm a sucker for a good billionaire story, so I was excited to start this series. It did not disappoint. I loved the friend group and how they all kept each other accountable and prayed for each other.

There were two things that I was a little put off by in this particular book, though. The first was the fact Scott didn't fight harder to get Whitney her own place. He's a billionaire and he was the guardian to the child. Whitney had no right to tell him she had to stay in his home. I'm glad it was addressed later that it appeared improper, but I'm just not a fan of the whole "forced proximity" trope when it wasn't actually forced. They absolutely had a solution given he was eventually looking at buying her a home once everyone else started pointing out that it was wrong for them to live together. They didn't ever do anything that was sinning necessarily, though, despite my preference for a couple not living together.

The other thing was the prologue. I guess it's just a personal preference thing, but I don't like prologues, and this one didn't feel necessary.

Otherwise, this was a clean read with no swearing, chaste romance with only kissing (other than what was already addressed), and plenty of content for me to call it a Christian romance. Overall, I recommend this for those who enjoy contemporary romances, especially with billionaires.

Scott never expected to make it rich on the stock exchange. Neither did he expect his money to make the cousin he hardly knows choose him as guardian for her son in her will - or for her to die when Beckett was only 3. Knowing nothing about kids and unable to find a daycare place for Beckett on such short notice, Scott is relieved when Whitney, Beckett's babysitter, agrees to stay on as his nanny. But once he moves past his initial irritation about how opinionated he feels she is, he starts to feel something more for her - and surely that's not appropriate? Whitney has always loved acting, but she also loves Beckett. When an opportunity that's too good to miss appears, is it the start of her dream or the end of everything?

I'm not generally a fan of billionaire romance, but I'll try anything this author writes, and her last billionaire series was great, so I was interested to see where she'd go this time. Well, it certainly didn't disappoint, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she does with the rest of Scott's friend group. As usual, the book was clean and well written, and kept me reading from start to end. I can't imagine the sort of mentality that leaves your son to someone you don't know just because he's rich, but that's more of a side issue. Watching Scott deal with such a major life change, and Whitney come to terms with the changes in her life too, was enjoyable and at times inspiring. I also appreciated the friend groups that they each had or developed. All in all, a great read, and worth a try even if (like me) you're not generally a fan of billionaire romance.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

Just finished reading The Billionaire's Nanny by Elizabeth Maddrey (disclaimer, she's my niece and I've read all her books). This is Book 1 in her new Billionaire Next Door novels, a Christian romance series that ties in with her (40+) other books.

Story opens with a prologue on how Scott, our MC, and his friends become uber wealthy. Then the set up - Scott becomes the guardian to a three year old! Well, along with the 3 year old, Beckett, comes a caretaker, Whitney, who ends up as the nanny. It's a fun and enjoyable "strangers to friends to falling in love" story that is currently a hot seller on Amazon for only 99 cents, I think. Love the cover, btw.

Maddrey's 'billionaire' books are more kinda-sorta billionaire romances. Her focus is definitely on the characters, their Christian walk and relationships, and not the jetsetting lifestyle. There's nothing objectionable here, although real life issues are addressed. For example, the nanny is technically living with her billionaire boss - and that is a discussion point for some family members. Handled well by the author, imo.

If you like sweet and clean romances and aren't sold on Christian romance, give this a try. I think you'll find a wholesome story that integrates faith naturally into the plot and isn't used as an excuse to sneak some moralistic message into the storytelling. Again, quite enjoyable.

I admit that I am not a big fan of the billionaire-romance subgenre, but Elizabeth Maddrey’s books have been on my radar and I decided I would take a chance on The Billionaire’s Nanny; I am glad I did. I liked the storyline and I’m glad I read this really engaging story. My issue with the billionaire-romance trope is that these stories often feel superficial, unrealistic, and/or completely unrelatable. But that is not the case with Maddrey’s story. In this book, the reader is treated to a tale of best friends who work real hard in their every-day lives, who are always there for one another no matter what, and who just so happen to strike it big after playing in the stock market. Scott and his group of friends are genuine, down-to-earth kind of guys. They work hard, pay their bills, do what they can to support their families, go to church and pray for one another regularly, and have hopes and dreams of meeting Ms. Right and starting families of their own. I really loved each character and found their struggles, their insecurities, and their day-to-day quite relatable. They don’t let the money they happen to win change who they are as men, and I think this is really cool. In fact, they so don’t let the money change them they actually forget they have it, which I thought was cute. There are a couple of moments in the story where Scott starts to spiral, but Whitney reminds him he has the funds to fix whatever the problem is and they both laugh at the situation. As far as Whitney goes, I thought her character to be quite good. I loved how stable she is no matter what life throws her way, and I really appreciated how much she loves sweet, little Beckett. She is a great surrogate mom who is willing to do whatever she needs to protect and care for her endearing, precocious little boy. And speaking of love, I liked how Scott and Whitney’s relationship developed over the course of the story. At first, Scott is slightly annoyed by Whitney’s existence, then he grows to appreciate her opinions, orderliness, and structure with Beckett because he gets it comes from a place of motherly love. One day, though, Whitney stops being “just the nanny,” and Scott’s and her relationship goes from lukewarm friendship to Mr. and Mrs. Right-for-Each-Other. It’s super sweet!

The Billionaire’s Nanny is an endearing story that I found to be highly engaging. I enjoyed my time with these characters and can’t wait to see what’s in store for them next in Austin’s story, The Billionaire’s Best Friend. If you are a fan of well-written Contemporary Romances then I highly recommend this read!

I borrowed a copy of this novel in eBook form from Amazon.com on January 16, 2023, via my Kindle Unlimited subscription in order to review. I also purchased a paperback copy of this novel from Amazon.com on May 1, 2022 as well. In no way has any of this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.

#BookReview : THE BILLIONAIRE'S NANNY by Elizabeth Maddrey

"God still brings people together in His time. We just have to wait and trust and pray.”

Do you read billionaire books? I don’t but this intrigued me after @beautyinthebinding’s post. I think I found a new series to enjoy. This got me out of a reading slump.

This is a sweet and clean romance that blends faith naturally into the plot. There’s nothing forced in it. Though it is a romance book, it is not the main focus. There’s so much going on in making sure Beckett is well taken care of. Beckett is so adorable. Whitney and Scott’s first meeting didn’t start good but Whitney softened over time. She saw that Scott does care for Beckett. I enjoyed Scott’s conversations with his dad. He has a good relationship with his parents.

I liked all the minor characters and the small town feel. I liked that Megan owns a bookstore and Whitney is a bookworm. The story is wholesome overall but with topics like addiction and death. I liked how Whitney chose to be with her family during a difficult time. The story wrapped up nicely and I look forward to Austin’s story coming out in July.

it was fine

I enjoyed the Christian content and world view. The whole book was kind of a downer though for an HEA. The heroine wasn’t very likable (complaining, jealous, prideful) and they didn’t have any chemistry… or even talk about feeling attracted to each other. They disliked each other, tolerated each other out of boss/employee obligation, then suddenly they were in love. I know Christian authors want to keep it clean, but I hope the next book has more emotions than grief, jealousy, pride, and obligation. And that the other heroines aren’t as annoyingly insecure. Oh and it was weird she spends the whole book unhappy being a nanny and not following her calling, but then that’s never resolved- they do a lot of “praying about it” but don’t confirm or express feeling the response- I guess marriage meant it wasn’t necessary any more bc all her fulfillment would come from being a wife and mother, no need to follow Gods plan.
I wish if we are going to have Christian content- let’s let it be a vibrant personal relationship, not just treat the Holy Spirit as a magic 8 ball. More scripture. More prompting and conviction of the Holy Spirit. Otherwise the characters come across as religious not faithful.

I LOVED this book!! What a great start to a new series!! Scott talks his friends into buying stock in a company and they end up becoming billionaires. Not long after their win, Scott finds out that his cousin whom he's never met has named him as her son's guardian when she passes. Whitney was friends with Scott's cousin, and practically raised Beckett. When she realizes she may lose Beckett, she finds out that she can deliver him to Scott, and decides to try to talk him into letting her raise Beckett, though she has no money and no job. When she arrives, Scott needs someone to take care of Beckett while he's at work, as all of the daycare's are full. The more they spend time together, the more they fall for each other, while Beckett wins everyone's hearts. Will these two be able to see past their first impressions and realize God put them together??

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. I liked the characters and think the rest of the series will be fun to read (or listen to) since we are introduced to each of six friends who pool their money in an investment that makes them billionaires. Scott is still living in his small apartment and working his job when he gets the news that a distant cousin he's never met has died and named him guardian to her three year old son Beckett. He's not prepared to be an instant dad but takes on the responsibility and rather reluctantly (but he's desperate) hires Whitney to be Beckett's nanny. She was a friend of his mother and genuinely loves Beckett, and he loves her. She gives up her life in California to fly cross country to deliver Beckett to Scott. Being a live-in nanny was not something Whitney ever aspired to be, but she was willing to do what Beckett needed. It was not without its problems.

I'm glad this was the first book I chose to get rid of my reading slump. It was easy to read, mostly because the plot was something I'm familiar with, and there's also Beckett, the sweet 3 y.o 🥺

There’s a lot you can learn from this book, from: How we can manage the money we have to be a blessing for others, to how christians should always think about what they do and say, so that we don't become a hindrance for other people.

And what I love and find unique in this book is Scott's interaction with his friends. They aren't afraid to be vulnerable, honest and support one another. And they're also proactively asking "Is there anything I can help and pray for?" Which is very wholesome.

Overall it’s a great book, and I especially recommend it if you are trying to find a book where the MCs have an amazing support system.

Kansas to California to Washington, DC

I pre-ordered, then promptly forgot when it was supposed to be available. I was delighted to see this was releasing today (okay, I started it before I went to bed last night, and it took a definite act of maturity not to stay up all night reading. )

I'm not a huge fan of billionaire books, but the premise of a wise investment turning a group of friends into billionaires works well for me. Added to that, it means more books about about the other guys - something I will truly enjoy.

As a West Coast girl I enjoy my visits to Washington, DC via books.

To sink into a book is a gift. Ms. Maddrey has the gift of creating real people in her books, from friendships to weddings. It is always a gift to find a new series by her.

Scott May Be Wealthy, But He Doesn't Live Like Whitney Expects!

"The Billionaire's Nanny (Billionaire Next Door Book 1), by Master Storyteller Elizabeth Maddrey, looks at how God creates an unexpected Family from tragedy.

Caring for toddler Beckett, brings Whitney and Scott together as his Guardian and Nanny. But how does Beckett change Scott's life? How does God provide Whitney with Girlfriends, through Scott's best Friends? How does God draw Scott & Whitney together, into a Lifetime 💞?

I Highly Recommend You 📖 this Outstanding, Engrossing, Poignant, and Entertaining, Christian Romance, to find the answers! This isn't like an episode of "The Housewives of Beverly Hills". I ❤️ed the real and compelling characters; and am eagerly anticipating the other 📚 in the Series. ❤️📖 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I am usually not a fan of millionaire and billionaire books but really enjoyed The Billionaire's Nanny! Scott convinces his six single Christian buddies to invest in a new company and they all end up billionaires but keep their jobs and stay pretty low key. I admired Scott for accepting the responsibility when his cousin dies and he finds out he is guardian for her three-year-old son. I also admired Whitney who is keeping the child for wanting to protect him and traveling with him on the plane to meet his guardian. Neither Whitney nor Scott trust each other but work out an arrangement for Whitney to work as a nanny to Beckett. The Billionaire's Nanny is certainly worth reading. I received an complimentary ebook from the author. This is my honest opinion,

Earlier this month as a result of a reading challenge, I read a billionaire theme book. This is definitely not my norm. But I enjoyed what I read and I had seen this series from Elizabeth Maddrey mentioned a number of times. I’ve read other books by this author and loves them so I decided to give this a try. And I’m very glad I did.

I think the problem I have with billionaire books are the titles. The fact that the emphasis seems to be on their billionaire status.

The fact that the main male character is a billionaire, definitely plays a role in the story, but it is not the key roll. It’s certainly my a catalyst for parts of the story.

I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but I do want to add that I appreciate it and liked the way the author handled the appearance of their relationship to others, considering it went from professional to more.

I had a free audio copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Scott and his friends invested in the stock market and won big making them all billionaires so when his cousin died, Scott found out he had been named in her will to be the guardian of her three year old son Beckett. When Beckett arrived, so did Whitney who had been taking care of him and wanted to be part of his life. Since he had been unable to find a suitable preschool for Beckett, Scott hired Whitney as his nanny. After Whitney’s sister’s family was in a car accident, she returned to her home state to be with her family, and Scott realized how much he had come to care for her. A tenderhearted story about love, working together and solving problems.

The Billionaire's Nanny is a sweet, inspirational romance that does not focus on money. Scott usually forgets he has money, but his family would like some of it. A cousin he does not know makes him her son's guardian. Of course she dies and Beckett, a 3 year old becomes Scott's ward. The local day care centers all have waiting lists. Whitney, who frequently cared for Beckett, brings him to Scott and agrees to stay as the nanny. Scott and his friends, his family, Whitney and Beckett are all relatable characters. This well written book kept me reading far into the night to see how Scott and Whitney would resolve their mutual attraction.

The Billionaire’s Nanny

Read a wonderful story of three people coping with major life changes. Beckett is only three years of age. Whitney is an actress in L. A. and she would keep Beckett while his mom would go on hikes and do various other activities. Scott and a few of his friends went together on a financial project that thrust them to billionaire status. Later he gets a call from his mom saying a distant cousin he doesn’t really know had died and designated him as the one to care for her son should she not be able. Whitney accompanied Beckett to meet Scott who proposes she be the nanny. Will these three people be able to help each other?

If you aren’t a fan of billionaire novels, you need to try this one. I don’t generally like billionaire stories, but Maddrey does them very well. She focuses on the billionaires as “real people,” and how they deal with life, making decisions that honor the Lord, and so on, with the money barely being important to the story. I really enjoyed this one and look forward to the rest of the series.

If you’ve read a lot of Elizabeth Maddrey’s books, you’ll enjoy having a few characters from other series pop up in cameo appearances in this one.

"The Billionaire's Nanny" was a delightful read. The interesting page-turning plot with spiritual overtones was focused on the relationship between the two protagonists, Scott and his nanny Whitney. Moreover, the plot was also filled with nuanced romance and a bit of adversity. I loved the author's use of imagery and other vivid descriptions which helped to create a serene tone. Overall, I enjoyed reading the narrative.

This well written, clean and touching story was a surprise! I tend to avoid billionaire type stories but found Elizabeth Maddrey had written a character who was responsible, giving of his time and money and not a flashy, spoiled playboy type. The main character lived a simple, conservative and prayerful life. His life was turned upside down by an unexpected arrival and the story developed into one of great friendships, support and an added love for his life. The side stories have great depth and heartfelt emotions and add together to make this a wonderful read!

I enjoyed reading this new series by Elizabeth Maddrey.
This is a clean, fun story of a group of friends who become billionaires after making an investment that paid off. Shortly after Scott finds out he has become guardian of his distant cousin's 3 year old son Beckett. Whitney, who has been taking care of him after Beckett's mom passed away, insists on staying with him. Things started off bumpy and there were some clashes as the two of them navigate how to take care of Beckett.
I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I absolutely loved this sweet Christian romance. The author wrote some dynamic characters. I loved how down to earth and realistic Scott was when he received the shocking news that changed his life.

I liked the way both characters grew in their faith and their love for each other. They sought God for direction in their daily lives.

I also enjoyed the strong friendship between Scott and his friends. Very nice touch. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Fans of sweet Christian romance will enjoy this book.

Oh my magnetic attraction, Maddrey nails the chemistry! Even more impressive is the thoughtful approach to faith issues raised by forced-proximity romance. Characters are genuine and likable with a tight-knit and large (yet not overwhelmingly so) friend group. The entire story is no-nonsense yet delightful. I will definitely be reading more books from this series.

this was a really sweet story! I'm not usually into the billionaire trope, but I'm glad I gave this a chance. I love how these characters love Jesus and talk about Him in such a natural way. They pray for each other, and they do their best to honor Him with the choices they make. I really enjoyed the friendships in this story as well as the romance. The writing was really good and I laughed several times which is always a plus! I read this book in the fall not knowing that most of the story takes place in the fall, so that was a fun bonus! The audiobook was pretty good.

I loved this book and can’t wait for the rest of the series! Scott and Whitney connect as he becomes the guardian for his cousin’s son, and she wants to make sure the child is taken care of well, so becomes the nanny. I love how she finds a good circle of girlfriends as well as friends to more with Scott and how they learn to communicate better through everything. It’s a great Christian romance and I’m excited for the next book in the series!

In this book you will read about a group of friends who become Billionaires, a distant cousin who dies and leaves her son to you. When Whitney brings Beckett to Scott their lives will change forever. Scott is a amazing down to earth person who is always trying to help others. Whitney is set on getting Scott to give Beckett to her. All of the characters in this book are very special inspirational people. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review.
