Did You Miss Me?

Rate this book
Though the new boy at Hogwarts University, James Potter, appears to be an adorable himbo with deep pockets, Remus Lupin and his friends instead find a horrifically dark past on Google. Did he really attack that boy and leave him for dead? Why won't he talk about his mysterious childhood best friend, "Pups"? Would it kill him to stop messing with his hair?

At least Remus got his phone back after losing it, but now he can't stop texting the mysterious number of the man who had sent it back. Padfoot is funny and charming, and Remus is NOT going to fall in love with him.

got a bit boring at times and the pacing was a bit off. oh and the ending felt a tad disappointing, but overall still a really good story. really enjoyed the formatting and the community aspect of it with the pictures and whatnot, so that bumped it up to 4 stars instead of 3

At 600,000+ words, I have no shame putting a fanfic, especially of this length, on my Goodreads challenge. I've been reading fanfic in various fandoms for almost 20 years and I think technically it's the longest one, by word count, that I've ever read. Despite the length it didn't feel slow or meandering at any point. There are bonus chapters, but they aren't filler, and instead progress the story and give more space for supporting characters. I won't spoil the story, but I think with everything going on right now with JKR and the fumbling Fantastic Beasts films, Harry Potter fanfiction is doing the real work of bringing compelling and engaging stories to this established universe and this one in particular is one of the better ones I've read.

"Sometimes the people closest to us, the ones we think love us the most, do the most damage."

So, I can't believe this fic was THAT long??? It's probably because of the way it's written, with half text or just me having too much fun, but it felt like a 100k-word read.

What can I say? I had way too much fun. I laughed, cried, and screamed, and I got to love all these characters so much by the end of it. The friend group felt like such a beautiful and healthy family that it almost made me feel bad for not having friends lol.

The construction of Jily was amazing. I genuinely loved James falling at first sight for her and almost proposing (because same). And Lily's characterization??? Hello??? Queen of my heart, light of my days??? They're so cuteee, and James is such a sweetheart😭. Wouldn't want anyone else for her.

The whole secret identity thing had me biting my nails the entire time, but it was just SO fun and exciting. I wanted to shout at them, but they're so adorable. Their shared childhood traumas and the way they fell in love with each other without even seeing each other's faces?? Tell me about standards. How Sirius felt he didn’t have to pretend with Remus—that he didn’t have to be a super pop-rich star with him—or the way Remus found comfort in Sirius not seeing his past trauma and having someone who knew him beyond that :((((. They were always so perfect for each other.

"He likes me. He has no idea who I am, and he likes me. That means he's not looking at the fame or the fortune. He's not looking at the name or the face. He likes me, Regulus. Sometimes, it doesn't feel like anyone actually likes me. I don't even like me."

Sirius literally giving up EVERYTHING—his money, his fame—for Remus? Hello? If that's not love... Him calling Remus his DREAM? God, he’s so the standard, I fear. I love them. And at first, also risking so much just meeting him, ughh.

"If anyone knew I was doing this, I'd be in so much shit, but... you're worth it. You're always going to be worth it."

"I was singing about a million dreams, and I realized I only had the one."

"By that point, the choice was between Remus and the fame and fortune... and not to be cliché, but honestly, it wasn't even a contest."

"I gave up everything in my life, literally everything, for a chance to be with Remus. I've been reunited with family I thought were lost forever and landed on my feet, yes, but I didn't know any of that when I left. I love your son. I will not let go easily."

And honestly, Sirius was just TOO good for them. When Regulus tells him he's always looking out for others, but who looks out for him? And everyone around him knew it. Even Bellatrix, deep down.

"Good. I mean... you were always too good for them."

"See," Jack said, pointing to Sirius' lips, "that's why we like you best. You see us as people."

I wanted Bellatrix to tell him she loved him back so badly, and I needed more closure for the Black twins!! The story is perfect, but they deserved better. Their relationship was so important to me, as fucked up as it was.

"As much as they claimed to despise it, as much as they denied their connection, at the end of the day... it was still Bebe and Sisi against the world."

Just the story itself was so full of genuine love. The friendships—Remus and Lily, Sirius and James—plsss. And the romance. The parents. Everything. They were so full of traumas and loved each other regardless, even more because of them, and it just felt so healing.

"I want to see your weird, fucked-up core and show you that it's deserving of love, too."

It was just SO beautiful, and the Wolfstar at the end was just my favorite thing ever. So soft, so loving, so caring, so fond of each other... I could ramble about them for ages and never get tired. Their love is so pure.

"Want to know another secret?" Padfoot asked, his voice a low whisper as he looked up at Remus, his expression growing nervous again. "I love you."

And that was 'Did You Miss Me?' And I definitely will miss them all so much :(

"Hello, Witches," Sirius purred to the camera. "Did you miss me?"

es el fic más largo que he leído y no sé cómo lidiar con esto, ni siquiera sentí que leí TANTO como realmente lo hice

creo que morí 85 veces con wolfstar, lo bueno es que me hicieron revivir 86 veces 😌

It was fantastic. They tied up all the loose ends and there were so many competing plots, but they all worked together. The smut is very explicit though, and I would have appreciated warning brackets around it because it often came on unexpectedly or had unblurred explicit images.
