Cy and Lou both bite the bullet and marry the women they have been dating for years, but after each couple returns from a lengthy honeymoon, both detectives have to head out and solve another murder, this time accompanied by their wives. They encounter a body that almost lands on top of them, sisters they cannot tell apart, suspects that seem guilty, suspects that seem innocent, and a murderer that likes to hide dead bodies. Even a dog, a duck, and additional cops are not enough to bring the case to a hasty conclusion.
Cy & Lou bumble their way through another puzzling case, only this time their new wives are with them. A huge mansion/fun house is the setting. The story begins with a body catapulting from a 6th floor window, barely missing Cy & Lou upon landing! Identical quadruplets keep them guessing. It doesn't help when Jennifer finds out that they're beautiful in addition to being almost richer than God! This is another clean cozy with Cy & Lou. The only negatives I have are that the story was unbalanced. In my opinion there was too much interaction between the 2 newlywed couples & not enough about the mystery. Also it seemed more juvenile than usual. There was of course the juvenile humor between Cy & Lou, which is a staple in these books, even more though, the story wasn't "up to snuff". The mansion is a cross between a playhouse for 4 youngsters & a creepy circus funhouse, with a touch of medieval torture thrown in for good measure! It was a good, fun break from the dark, ultra serious stuff I have been reading, & I actually enjoy Cy & Lou's repartee, but in a general sense I was a bit disappointed in this book
I have mixed feelings on this one. I’ve enjoyed the whole series but this one had me confused a lot of the time. It does keep you guessing about the numerous suspects, and the crazy mansion with mazes and chutes and ladders is a unique twist. What confused me the most was that it was hard to figure out who was speaking most of the time when Cy, Lou, and their wives were together. And with the sisters all having similar names it was hard to keep them straight. I had to stop and reread many passages to understand it. And hopefully in the next book the author will have decided if the duck is a he or a she since it went back and forth many times in this book. All in all it was an enjoyable read but not one of my favorites in the series.
This book is another winner in the Dekker Cozy Mystery series, and it reminds me of A MURDER ON HALLOWEEN (my personal favorite Dekker novel). This time, however, Cy & Lou are married and the wives are involved in solving the case... Identical Quintuplets, a huge mansion, millions in inheritance, nosey neighbors and dead bodies all combine for a very humorous mystery. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Thank you Steve Demaree for another great Decker mystery! I was thrilled that My and Lou married their sweet hearts. I love this series, have read them all and will read them again. I hope there will be a new one next year! The humor is great - I feel like I would recognize them if I saw them on the street! Thanks again!
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT! It was so fun to finally see these two unique bachelors tie the knots with Jennifer and Thelma Lou. Damaree has a way of making you fall in love with all of the characters, including Blue and Quiggley. The brides add a new dimension to these books. Each page is filled with fun and laughs.
I loved this book. It is a wonderful, clean murder mystery. I loved the fact that Cy and Jennifer and Lou and Many Lou got married. I also like that the girls help them solve the murder. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading a wonderful, clean cozy murder mystery..
I have enjoyed all of Steve Demaree's books. The characters are likable and believable. I buy his books as soon as they come out. Also plan on going back and reading them in order one of these days.
It's about time Cy and Lou got married but not to each other, of course. Without giving anythingaway, I was completely baffled on this one. It's a good, clean murder mystery with a little comedy thrown in.
No clues, except the ones from God. There are several suspects but no real clues. Thank God Cy understood that picture clue. And I am really glad for Cy and Lou in their newly married lives. The wives make reading even more fun.
I have read all the Dekker cozy mystery series and this one did not disappoint. I was so excited that Cy and Lou finally married their sweethearts! The mystery was interesting and kept me wanting to read more!
I love these Dekker books. I never can guess who did it. Characters great as usual. I wish there were more to read. I would recommend these books to anyone who likes whodoneits that are wholesome and a bit quirky.
It ended too quickly! This was another great one, I laughed through it all. The ladies added to the humor and the mystery too. Bring on the next one, I'm waiting!
Another excellent mystery from the pen of Steve Demaree. If you enjoy Cody mysteries and haven't yet discovered the Cy Dekker books, then I suggest you try them. Highly recommended.
I have read all of Steve Demaree's books and wasn't sure how I would like one with Cy and Lou as married guys. However, it turned out great because the ladies were incorporated in with the crime solving. What made this book different from others was the introduction of quadruplet women and a very strangely built house. I didn't figure the murder out until it was revealed in the final chapter--the sign of a good mystery for me!
