On the day of a much-anticipated speech by Rosa Parks during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, four activists working in a Virginia civil rights office wonder whether the proclamation of equality amongst mankind includes women. With remarkable insight and unexpected humor, Cadillac Crew reclaims the stories of the forgotten leaders who blazed the trail for desegregation and women’s rights and asks: when will the world be ready to embrace women in all their capacity?
Having a podcast scene onstage talking about current issues following a play about womanhood and civil rights set in the 1960s felt like the perfect time jump. Such a unique device to catapult us to the parallels between this struggle and our current times! Themes of historification, erasure, and whose names are remembered and why filtered through the lens of female empowerment was quite the fascinating read.
Nice read..would love to see this on stage. Going from the civil rights era to the BLM was ok..I didn't not enjoy the podcast element at the end..It felt like archival from "Fresh Air" but if done on stage correctly I can see this being a great ahhhaa moment but felt it was a lil long but a great play read
