Toby thought werewolves were fiction, until he became one.
After Toby’s college life implodes, he returns home to his small town hoping for a chance to start over. But he discovers his lover is a married man with a jealous streak, and another much more deadly secret.
A car crash changes everything, and sets Toby on a path he’s not certain he will survive, at least not alone. Sundered from his wolf, he has the choice to face his past, or let himself fade.
Note: Prequel to WitchCurse, with some spoilers from earlier in the series as this is Toby’s journey from college dropout, to lone wolf searching for a home.

WitchWolf is the second short in Lissa Kasey's Kitsune Chronicles, though I hate to say it wasn't as strong as the previous one. While I fell madly in love with Toby in the main trilogy, I didn't really connect to him here, for no reason I can clearly pinpoint. Maybe because it recaps all the main events of the trilogy from Toby's distant, almost uncaring POV, skimming over everything in a rush to get from turning to present day. Or, maybe it's because Toby is afraid of everything, his wolf is afraid of everything, and neither are really living, but going through the motions. I think the main thing I was missing was the connection to Toby. Because, his story was heartbreaking and much more complex than the “car crash” everyone in the pack was led to believe. Now knowing he can keep Liam out of his memories, the way no other pack wolf can, explains why we didn't know all this back story before. I can see there's going to be a huge tidal wave of retribution, when they all find out the truth, because it's not the first time Toby's attacker has done this, and Liam was lied to. I'm looking forward to seeing that. But, also looking forward to Toby finding his strength and independence again. I was super excited to see Toby beginning to find his bond, and while I've held out hopes for a GrumpyxSunshine mix with Carl, this will be even better. And I'm so happy to know he'll have a bigger part in the new trilogy. There's so much more I want to explore about him.
Overall, while it felt distant, and there was a lot of skimming over recaps of the trilogy's main events, Toby managed to shine in the end. His story was heartbreaking, touching, and necessary. I'm glad Kasey gave us this insight into him, and I'm looking forward to reading more about him, his story, and his new bond, in the future trilogy.

“I couldn't even remember my name. Not that it mattered. I was wolf.”
This was a very intense and involved series with 4 novels and 2 shorts out so far, with more to come. I can't imagine having this much imagination and being able to make a cohesive story out of it - guess that's why I'm a reader and not a writer!
The first 3 books focused on the same 2 MC's (Liam and Sebastian) with book #4 moving over to Kiran, Toby & Nick. Looks like the next books in the series will also change up the MC's. You can definitely stop after each book as they get their HFN/HEA at the end of each one but they are definitely best read in order as the stories continue along the same timeline and the MC's show up throughout.
I didn't think I could wait for Toby's story so I devoured this book when it was presented to me. Toby is everything I needed him to be and his story broke my heart...and then put it back together...several times over. I can't wait to see what happens next!
Read this like a part of Toby's diary. It...hurt. I've some similar experiences in the past, and I think I would've liked having a wolf save me from the pain of memories. A good exploration of Toby's mind, since the next novel is more often from Kiran's PoV.
We fina)y get to hear Toby's story, and how/why he preferred his wolf side. It's a heartbreaking story, but the love of an alpha and the omega lessened his struggle.
