The strange events of a year and a half ago have not been forgotten. A government-run investigation has found a clue pointing to three kids with something to hide.
While their search for answers is just beginning, a much older search is almost over — the search for the Maker. And when these two searches collide, something unexpected is found; hope for a distant world.
Hello 👋. My name is Rob. I'm currently in the process of writing the third and final instalment of the Wren Trilogy. Feel free to connect with me. I'm friendly and don't bite.
I live in England with my wife and two boys, and write from the bottom of my garden, sometimes accompanied by Arnold, our miniature schnauzer.
I have no real preference in what I read, but love to write science fiction with a mystery at its core.
I prefer technical scifi over fantasy. This is not technical but the story and characters are very engaging. The alien aspects have enough limitations to be believable although not explained so the story doesn't devolve into fantasy. I've enjoyed both books, the second a bit more, and am really looking forward to the 3rd... last? Better than average YA literature. No social/ political preaching, just excellent story telling!
Don't let this being classified as YA stop you from reading this series, I'm a senior adult and I loved it! The characters, young and older, are fully fleshed out, and there's no teenage romance to detract from the storyline. The aliens even feel like real people. Waiting with bated breath for book three to come out!
This is a thrilling follow-up to the first book where Rob Winters opens up the world of Wren, introducing new alien and human characters which allows him to explore the repercussions of the events and revelations in the first book. The story touches on the dangers of technology being used to control a population but at the same time never loses sight of his character-driven narrative.
"The Maker" is the second book in a young adult trilogy whose three main teen characters are similar to the well-known Harry Potter trio. This new trio encounters, befriends, and risks their lives to help aliens who have escaped death warrants issued by a megalomaniac leader on their home world. The aliens and one of the teens, who is part alien, have unusual abilities. Some can create incredible new inventions that defy known science. Some can see through walls and across great distances. Some have extraordinary physical stamina and scenting abilities that allow them to track down almost anyone. Some can see/predict the future and ghost images of the past. These abilities make a unique read which ends with the trio on the aliens' home world. I was eager to hear much more detail about the alien world, but I will have to wait for the third volume of the trilogy which hasn't been written yet.
I got the first book for Christmas. It was amazing and I couldn't wait for release of this, the 2nd book. It did not disappoint. Just great storytelling. Labeled as YA but any age would like it IMO. I def see this as a tv series like stranger things etc.and really look forward to the next book!! I highly recommend you order today!!!!
Thanks , Rob! Enjoyed reading The Maker as much as Book1. Read this one in quick time as I wanted to know where you were taking the Gang this time around. Looking forward to Book 3 and wherever it leads.
Read the first two books in this trilogy and thoroughly enjoyed them. Good storyline and interesting and believable characters (even the aliens!) Looking forward to the last one - Rob - get on with it!
I liked this a lot more than the first one. With more characters, higher stakes, and more effort put into world building, it was much more captivating than the first one.
Still, even with the ramped up action, it's still such a cosy series. It has this feel of innocence and sincerity, partly probably due to the British characters and setting. The Potteresque trio of clever kids feels even more established in the second installment and I can't help but cheer them on. Rounding up the 3.5.
I enjoyed book one and enjoyed this one more. The relationships and characters have grown and bonded. It ends on a knife edge leaving me quite keen to read book three. Very well done Rob Winters.
