Suddenly downsized from her corporate telecom career, Sue Kenney walked 780 kilometers on a medieval pilgrimage route in Spain known as the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. She went alone in the winter on a quest in search of self-love and ultimately, more meaning in her life. This is her story. A 45 year old mother of three teen-aged daughters, a competitive master rower and a business woman, she left the comfort of her familiar life in Toronto to venture into the unknown. The word Camino means the way. Pilgrims of the past followed this path to Santiago, where the remains of the St. James were alleged to be buried. They believed if they were close to the remains of an Apostle they would be closer to God. Sue decided she wasn’t going on this pilgrimage for religious reasons, but rather on a journey to discover her inner self. She left knowing she would start in St. Jean Pied de Port and she would walk to Santiago, Spain. But, she had no idea about how she was going to face the physical challenge of walking 20-40 kilometers a day to get to her destination. Through the tales of her journey, we learn how Sue experiences the Camino as a metaphor for a celebration of one's life. Over 29 days, she attempts to remain open to all possibilities and experiences astonishing insights and lessons that completely shift her perspective about what's important in life. With the grace of a humble pilgrim and the discipline of a competitive world class masters rower, Sue imparts the secret to the power of surrender through her stories. After the Camino she returned home and established a deep connection with nature. She wrote her first book, My Camino, originally published by White Knight Books and now a feature film in development. Her second book is about another Camino on the Portuguese Route called Confessions of a Pilgrim and she has produced a feature length documentary film Las Peregrinas. She now lives a barefoot lifestyle and has coached and guided numerous groups on the Camino. She became known as Barefoot Sue after her 15 second video she went viral on TikTok.
