What’s the saying: keep your friends close and your enemies closer?
Guess I’m about to find out just how difficult that really is. I might have my best friend back but his safety and that of my chosen family depends on me doing something I vowed never to do. Join Camden’s crew. Thing is, you don’t turn down the leader of Hackney’s Hackers and then get a second chance without forfeiting something in return. The relationships I was just starting to build, is that too high of a price? Sonny with his joking nature and dimples. Ford with his mysterious dominance and protective instinct. Eastern with his unyielding loyalty and feeling of home. This term at Oceanside Academy, my sanity will be pushed to the limit as I walk the fine line between friend and foe. All I know is this better be worth it because I’m about to learn something important about myself. I was happy being a delinquent, but a reject…? Not so much.

I realise that despite the persona he presents to the world underneath it all he’s just a broken kid like the rest of us. We’re the legacy of fucked up parents in a fucked-up world. We’re the broken and the bruised. We’re the battered and the torn. But maybe, just maybe we’re the stitch to each other’s wound. Maybe we can help each other to heal.
This pretty much sums up the entire second installment of Academy of Misfits series. All we can see is the developing relationship between Asia and our four boys. Quite a pentagon, eh? I liked how the book started and how it ended. Also, a bit of the middle too.
Overall, again an okay read. It was because I kind of predicted the cliffhanger. If not for that, I would have been pleasantly surprised. Oh, onto the next and final book of the series!
This is the second book in the series and it managed to keep the momentum flowing forward continuing on from its predecessor seamlessly. All of the loose threads were gathered up here and by the finish Asia and her boys were on track to becoming a solid unit this is despite the huge bombshell that has just been dropped on them all, the final book is certainly going to be interesting after that particular reveal
The tension and chemistry were just as intense here and though this series is relatively slow-burn compared to others I've read it did feel authentic and fitting for this harem progression especially considering all of their ages
After the previous books finish i was expecting a bit more in regards to Asia's role and her infiltration into the hackney hackers but i did feel that this wasn't a big part rather it was Asia's emerging bond with Camden that was the main focus here. I didn't mind as we definitely got to know Camden more deeply including the whys of his prior behaviour and his background, especially in relation to his ongoing feud with Ford.
We also got more Eastern and I do think out of all the boys he's probably the one I feel I know the least about more than likely because of his obvious absence in book one and then the fact that here Asia was having to keep her distance so I would like to learn more regarding his inner workings separate from Asia. Sonny was his usual self and I adore Sonny he breaks the tension and has a gift for putting people at ease. I'm looking forward to the conclusion now it should be interesting
I'm reeling after finishing this fabulous second book in Bea's incredible series
What did I just read? I see this question asked a lot in reviews but I cannot believe what I have just read and how good it was. Bea Paige is a master storyteller, keeping you hanging on her every word, unable to put her books down and yet never wanting them to end. Ar the start of the new term, Asia's new friendships are looking pretty shaky once she joins 'the enemy' and she feels more alone than ever. Her new friends cannot understand her decision and although her best friend, Eastern, is now at the Academy with her, he seems further away from Asia than before. At every turn, she seems to be rejected by everyone and the commitment she has made takes its toll in ways she never considered. The main characters are vividly imagined and written, their deprived backgrounds hard, sad, and unfortunately believable. These are kids who do what they have to, to get by, to survive. Nothing is handed to them on a silver platter and their strength and determination shines through every page. Bea also allows all the other characters in the book to tell us enough about themselves so that we understand them and their place in the story. There were so many strands to this story and so many revelations. Camden's history, his enmity with Ford, Kate's past, Sonny's foster family (old friends if you have read Bea's Brothers Freed series), Ford's family.... the list goes on. Bea kept me guessing and the twists and turns kept coming. Every chapter seemed to disclose more surprises and shocks and connections to move the story in unexpected directions. Bea's writing has always been great but she is just getting better and better with each new series. Her stories are fresh and new, even if you have read other books in the same genre. She always manages to put a new twist, a new spin, on things, making the genre her own. Her characters each have their own voice and they speak to you as you read. It is very hard to put a Bea Paige character out of your mind because they have a tendency to creep into your heart and take up permanent residence. The ending of this book completely knocked me for six. Biggest shock so far. I can't even...... Book Three, Family, cannot come quickly enough now, as my heart is in my mouth and my brain is hurting. Again, what did I just read? Hurry up, Bea, I need to know what comes next.
My goodness wth just happened?!! Asia and her misfits are trying to figure things out, they had a plan. This story is soooo good, the action, the steam, the angst, I love it. And.... The latest shock of all ... Wow, I really didn't see that coming. 👀 On to book 3! 😬💕
Asia's life has been a mess since before she was born. From the moment she changed her name she's been trying to take control but it's a neverending fight. Now she's given up her control to save the boy she loves and the only family she's known. She's going against her own code and joining a gang and by doing so will likely lose the two boys she's attracted to and her friends. But she has no choice, she rarely does. She just does what she needs to do to get through each day.
Bea Paige has become one of my favorite authors. Since she has moved from paranormal RH to contemporary RH, her writing has reached a new quality. Her characters have a genuine depth; there's an authenticity to her writing, a rawness, an intensity that cannot be denied. Her writing was always good, her books entertaining but there is excellence to these last two series that takes my appreciation to a higher level.
This story is so layered, sometimes disturbing, sometimes heartwrenching, always entertaining. My heart broke so many times, and not always during the dark times. Their happiness brought me pain because it was such a rarity and should not have been. The joy they found in such simple pleasures should have been a regular occurrence instead of their constant struggles. Above all, however, I am always drawn to characters. Asia is fantastic. There's nothing about her that is extraordinary. She is smart, artistic, strong, and loyal. She is scared, untrusting, snarky, and sometimes makes life more difficult than it has to be. She's a survivor above all. It would be so easy to give up and be swallowed by her circumstances. She is damaged. Yet she persists. This is beautiful. The boys she belongs to are equal to her in every way. Eastern is a part of her. He's been beside her, loving her every step of her life. He always will be. Is there anything better? Sonny is happy with hidden hurts. The fact he has chosen positivity is something I identify with and admire tremendously. It takes more strength than most realize. Ford is a fierce, protective man that only allows a few people into his world. When he decides you are worthy, his acceptance is complete. This is an honor. And Camden is an artist whose life has been nearly destroyed because he loves his family. He's the most damaged, the one most at risk. His bravery to be a part of this group proves the man underneath. All of these guys and Asia deserve so much more than life gave them. Now together, they have a chance. The side characters Pink and Kate, Monk and his wolves, and the school admin are all complicated and damaged as well. I wish I could say that this was unrealistic but I think there are more walking wounded out there than the untouched. When you find your own, everything changes. I can't wait to see where they go from here. Their fight is not over, it's only beginning. The King is a threat but I think he's the one in danger now. My money is on Asia, the family she has created, and their new allies.
For the first third Asia was hard to stomach, she became too selfish and not really willing to see any other POVs. As realistic as it was, it was still annoying. However, this author knows how to put her characters through the pace, and I'm so glad I read it all.
I think I loved the sequel more than Delinquent! Asia’s made a decision to protect those that she loves and all of her friendships and relationships seem to be shaky and rocky because of it. Pink sticks by her, even though she’s in the dark about Asia’s reasoning, and that only makes me love her more. I loved learning so much more about these characters- Kate’s past, Camden and Ford’s hostility to one another, and so much more. We definitely get to see the most vulnerable sides of these tough, damaged characters and it’s hauntingly realistic. I actually started to like Eastern more in this book, which was definitely a plus. I have never been so invested in characters before and have my heart aching for them like Bea makes me. I’m so excited, yet extremely sad that this story will be coming to an end soon! *I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review
Well, well, well was not expecting that!!! What an ending, that was an amazing book. Love all the characters, the guys are just better and better. Thank you for another amazing book.
Wow!! A lot happens in Reject. Delinquent served as setting up the characters, the basis of the plot and a general idea of how awesome these players are. In book two, Reject so much happens here. Bea has done an excellent job of throwing the reader for a loop, taking us on twists and turns. Be prepared to be totally engrossed, not able to get anything done until the story is finished.
In Reject, Asia finally gets her best friend back. Eastern has stepped up and shown Asia how much he loves her. But how does she tell him that she has kissed Ford and Sonny. And that maybe she has feelings for them. How can she keep her family and friends safe? The cost maybe more than she can bare. Can she walk away from the only family she knows? Or will she forge her own path, one where she walks a fine line one where who are her enemies and who are her future?
Asia shows us here just how much of a strong female lead she is. She has a difficult choice to make, and I like how much she steps up and tries to forge her own path. Her struggles, love, hate, loyalty and fight make her one of my favorite female leads. The guys, all have their own issues, which we get to see come to light. Eastern, whose love for Asia will make you fall for him. Sonny, with his fun personality and fierce loyalty. Camden, full of secrets, having you wonder should you trust him, but wanting to. Ford, who is fierce and protective. Can they work together for the common goal of Asia, or is their dislike of one another going to ruin everything?
Bea does, as always, have a great way with the written words. She creates characters that are these flawed and complex characters that we cannot help but love and root for. And that ending, what a way to end a book. It is a slight cliffhanger but a very solid ending. Leaving me needing book three like now!!!
This story packs one heck of a punch and doesn't let up. The tension just keeps building and building through the pages and turns you inside out. Asia is once again the strong, fierce, big hearted survivor that we met in Delinquents, but the growth she undergoes in Reject makes her one of my absolute favorite female MCs. As she struggles, strives, fights, and falls, we feel everything single thing with her. Her men are so different, delicious, and sexy that it is as easy to fall for them as breathing. With an ending that's solid, but definitely not finished, the last page will stick with you until resolved. It was well written, funny, tragic, and riveting the whole way through. If you pick up this book, be ready to get nothing done until Asia is through with you. I couldn't put it down!
OMG this left me wanting no neading more!! Bea the way you write your stories is amazing!! I couldn't put it down and finished it in 1 day!! Loved everything and can't wait for more seriously if you haven't read this series then your missing out cause it's AMAZING 😍 I truly recomend this book to everyone!!
A lot of plot twists are thrown in our direction, one of them being part of a huge cliffhanger. This book definitely gave us more character development and I loved the appearance of some other characters we know. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book, to find out how everything will unfold.
Fantastic continuation to the series! I devoured Reject in less than a day- it was that good. I didn't want to put it down. It started where it left off in Delinquent. Asia is now forced to lie, betray, and keep secrets in order to save the ones she loves. She's been through hell and back her whole life and now the crazy has stepped up even more. There are added layers through out this story as Asia battles outside forces as well as internal. Can she walk the tightrope that has been laid before her? There are twists and turns every step of the way for Asia and her guys. She has to betray some of them in order to protect others. There's a lot of push and pull between them because of this. There are so many different moving pieces to the puzzle that they have a hard time keeping up. The angst I felt reading this! Bea Paige has a way of writing that brings the pages to life, and brings the emotions to the surface where you can feel them as if they were your own- it's incredible. The cliffhanger in this is definitely worse than the first book, but the third and final book of this series is already out so here I go onto the next! It's time to see where these Rejects end up!
I was in need of a book and realized that I had read the first book in this series back when it first came out. I did not do a re-read before hand honestly it was not needed these characters were so memorable that right away it was like no time had passed. Asia is as strong in this book as the last with the vulnerability of showing her guys that she needs all of them. Some authors do re caps so if you need that to continue in this story you should do a re-read because things pop up and you may learn more of the partial story gone over in the last book but no big re caps of who's who. I read this story in a day and am going to start Family. I gave it a five star because I could just pick it up even though it's been a while I hate recaps. The characters are flawed but whole you can feel their pain and hard choices. And it's a unique RH story that will make you have all the feelings.
I read Freestyle and Lyrical by this author and then had to go back and read her backlist. I know I have done this series backwards but it hasn't hindered my enjoyment in any shape or form.
This is another reverse harem series from Bea Paige and this one is about a reform school for juvenile delinquents. No dance in this series but we have graffiti artists and some fantastic fight scenes, including the girls. Full of action and a girl with balls of steel. These are kids that have struggled all their lives, born into awful circumstances and where crime is either the only way to survive or a cry for help.
From the start of the first book and the end of the last I was rapt, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough as Asia and her men navigate a life with love for once. When life always gives you lemons, sometimes lemonade is still something to be wary of.
This was a great read from start to finish. Loved it.
"We’re the legacy of f'd up parents in a f'd-up world. We’re the broken and the bruised. We’re the battered and the torn. But maybe, just maybe we’re the stitch to each other’s wound. Maybe we can help each other to heal."
In book 2 of Academy of Misfits, the reader continues to be immersed in the dark and dangerous world of gangs and horrible worlds.
"Four guys, so very different but all somehow managing to tear apart my resolve to be an island, a fucking continent, actually. They’re like the water lapping at my shores, breaking down my barriers day by day, bit by bit, turning stone into sand."
Again, book 2 and Bea Paige continues to be a highly recommended series. This is a contemporary, reverse harem that should be for mature readers due to sexual scenes, language and the darker theme.
"...not everything that glitters is worth having. There are some pretty things that are tarnished on the inside no matter how much they shine.”
This has sat in my 'currently reading' list for 2 years because I just didn't love the first book in the trilogy. The writing was a bit repetitive in book one, regarding what a badass the FMC was, and how she couldn't trust anyone but would kick anyone's ass if they fucked with her. It was reiterated over and over again. I was pleasantly surprised that in the second book, that sort of unnecessary character build stuff was mostly glossed over with the FMC. There was a bit of a repetitive descriptor used for a particular MMC, but it didn't bother me as much because it was less frequent and the story isn't from his POV.
Making one of the manliest love interests in the book call our FMC bae towards the end of the book nearly lost me though. 🤣🤣🤣 It's going to be a huge ick if that shows up in book three.
BUT! This book was better than book one and I'm keen to finish the trilogy now, which I was thinking might be a DNF. Glad I came back to this series.
This is the second in the Academy of Misfits series and you do need to read Delinquent first as it follows straight on. I loved this book! The first book had a great draw in to the series and set the relationships up beautifully. This book takes those relationships through to the next step. This book has all the heat and chemistry that I was missing in the first book. Now, I know they’re supposed to be youngish but I want some chemistry in my romance and boy, did this book deliver. I love the transformation in the characters throughout this book. Camden and Eastern, Ford and Sonny. I loved it, I loved them. And that ending, OMG! Asia is still kicking ass and taking names but she is also finding all this trickier than she was expecting to. This is hard stuff to traverse but with these guys behind her she can conquer the world! Heading straight in to the final installment!
I think I preferred this book to the first in the series. Asia is a little more likeable despite how she has to act to keep up the pretense that she hates the others.
I wasn't sure how Camden fitted into Asia's life and whether there could be more between them, but we saw another side to him in this that also made him a more likeable character.
Like I said before, this is my first series by Bea, so the Freed characters are all new to me. I did feel like I was missing something when they appeared in the story, so will have to look into their series too. They were mentioned enough that I felt like I should have already known who they were, so for a first time reader I was confused for a small portion of the book.
I saw the big cliffhanger end coming. I guessed in book 1, but I still enjoyed seeing how it played out
I loved that we saw Asia open up more & we finally got Eastern & the tension & love him & Asia had. I am usually an enemies to lovers reader but this best friend to lovers story made me so happy.
Camden slowly started to redeem himself. Ford brought the tension. Sonny brought the happiness & the love to this book. All of these men balanced Asia so well. Each of them fit perfectly.
Asia is by far one of my favorite female characters that I have ever read. All of the shit that she went through but yet, it didn’t let it define her or change her. She still opened her heart to her men & her best friends.
& the spice? 🥵🥵🥵
Bea is becoming one of my favorite authors ever. She is amazing with Harem & relationship development. Also, badass, amazing heroines as well.
Okay so I’m not going to lie I started to suspect that the King was going to be her father just because she kept bringing him up. I was sad that Kate was so mean and cut her out at first. But I am so glad that, that situation was able to work out. I’m glad she finally came clean to Sonny and Camden. I knew Ford knew what was going on because he is always watching and listening. We finally get the background on Camden and Ford and they are finally working to resolve their issues. I feel bad for Camden. It also makes sense why Monk is so untouchable, and even though I guessed I was still shook by the letter from Monk after Pink was kidnapped. Grim and the Freed brothers are now helping. This book had so much going on. I’m glad she got Eastern back and that all the boys are okay with each other and even..:friends?

Never before have I been so glad that I didn't get a chance to read a series until after it was completed because I did not see that cliffhanger coming at the end of this book. I was reeled in from the beginning of this one, anxious to see how things would play out. Again I did struggle with the difference in how the British speak compared to what I am used to in the USA, but I went in fully prepared for that difference this time.... just a note for my fellow USA readers- a jumper is not referring to a dress, but to a sweater (had a major LOL moment until I looked that one up in the dictionary). This is a slow burn reverse harem, but the sexual tension/chemistry is sizzling. Can't wait to jump right into the next book to see how this plays out.

So much at Oceanside is not what it seems, including the people. I love this book so much.
This book ends on one doozy of a cliffy. Moving on to book 3!
(4.5stars) Well damn, these books are addicting and really captivating! I didn’t think I could fall for these characters more than when I read Delinquent but I was so wrong. These characters are just incredible. Asia, Easten, Camden, Sonny and Ford are really are a group of Misfits, they all have their own demons and are broken in their own way. Yet they just fit and make it work and soon realise they are stronger together and that Asia is the one they are going to be there for no matter what.
I can’t wait to see how it’s all going to play out, especially after that twist at the end I totally did not see coming.
Asia's character was much more pleasant in this book. She's still a bitch, but with feelings. She's growing on me. The guys are growing on me also. The twist at the end was a doozy. I'm not sure if the author uses an editor, but like the first book, some scenes in this book were entirely too long. And repetitive. That's probably why it took me so many days to finish this one. Also, please, PLEASE, hire a proofreader. There is a huge difference between to and too. There were also many other basic and advanced mistakes that a good proofreader would have caught. I can recommend someone to you if need be. I'll probably read the last book, but not immediately.
5 stars for Reject by Bea Paige. This is book two in the Academy of Misfits series. “You can’t observe the storm from a safe distance when the storm is already a part of you. We all have our roles to fill. I’d just been avoiding mine for a lot longer.” Asia has been tasked with a difficult mission in order to keep Eastern and her family safe. She must join Camden’s gang, The Hackney’s Hackers. However, what she believed about Camden may not be true. Camden, Sonny, and Ford each have their own issue. All of them are drawn to each other because of this. I can not wait to see what secrets we uncover next.
This book is all about building alliances and forgiving the past and building trust and finding love and sharing souls and bodies...there's a lot going on, culminating in an insane ending that literally had me stand up and shout, "What the actual f***!"
So yeah, it was good good. Like really good and I'm leaving the worst review ever, because I really don't want to write one; I just want to be left alone to read book 3. Is that too much to ask?
If you've read book 1, clearly you'll read this book (you'd be a fool not to), so I'll just say this once: read this book; read this series.
In this book we discover more about Camden and the reason behind his bipolar behavior tbh I had already guessed the reason. But this didn't diminished my entertainment with the book. Asia keeps being my favorite character but I also love all the boys. Of course you have to suspend your disbelief is some things but nothing that took me out from the story. The writing is very heartfelt and even though the characters are very mature sometimes they still act like teenagers which is great. I love that they have the help of some adults. Sometimes we lack this is some stories, all the adults are terrible people and is not the case in here and I'm glad
