Did you know that the CIA had sabotaged ISRO’s top secret operation to transfer cryogenic rocket technology from Russia to India? Ever wondered what is the real reason why S. Nambi Narayanan does not want the whole truth behind the ISRO spy story to surface? Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) was rocked by a spy case in 1994, taking down in its wake six persons who were a part of the organisation, including S. Nambi Narayanan. They were blamed with passing critical rocket technology to a neighbouring nation and booked for the same. CLASSIFIED exposes the hidden truths behind the spy story and how it highlighted the fractures of our premier institutions. It shows us how the spy case stripped them bare, down to their bones. Read this intriguing account of how state agencies are surreptitiously trying to bury the wreckage of a failed operation.
Classified by J Rajasekharan Nair is an intriguing read based on the sensational ISRO Spy Case that hit the headlines way back in 1994. Let me brief up the case, which had allegations of illegal transfer of certain confidential documents on India's Space Program to foreign countries by 2 senior scientists and four others including 2 Maldivian women. What is the case? What happened later and who were involved in it? Read the book to know more..
The book starts at a slow pace but grabs the attention of the reader once it picks up speed as it progresses. I liked the way the author has divided the book into parts which hints the readers what to expect from it. With every chapter one gets closer to the reality. As the author peels the layers of the fabricated case one gets a glimpse of not only loop holes in the Indian System, but also how CIA can manipulate things. The glossary of Acronyms used in the book, has been provided at the end to help the readers.
Good narration, lucid language, with title and the cover have been chosen to suit the contents, the book has been written for mature readers. Overall a book that shows the actual reality of the case hence exposing the truth.....
Dropping this at 70%. I started with a lot of enthusiasm, based on the initial editorial reviews of the book and the India-Russia-US angle - but the writing and very poor editing really made this a task to get through. The publisher needed to put in a lot more effort to make the book better structured and readable.
Purely investigative journalism - and while full credit is due to the author for the detail and evidence presented, the text lacks clarity, is repetitive and could have been much better presented - especially to readers who are unfamiliar with the case, like I was. The first 40 pages had me quite befuddled.
This would make a good reference book for someone interested in the minutest details of the ISRO spy case. The author raises some interesting and pertinent questions about the contradictions in the case, but again, the writing feels extremely jerky and hasty.
A lot has unfolded in our history that most of us are unaware of and there is a lot waiting to grab our attention. This book is also based around a similar theme and discusses about a very important event in our history.
It all happened in 1994 when ISRO spy case got nationwide attention and even took global media by surprise. The event which kind of tarnished our image at the universal level for bearing people in our system who were alleged to sell some confidential data to the foreign nation. This novel delves deep into the details of what exactly trasnspired and how the foreign world paints a grim picture of our country to score brownie points.
The content of this book are well researched and are highly pragmatic in many aspects. The amount of information the novel showcases is not easy for an amateur reader to digest. The pace of the story though could have been better. However the intriguing cover and equally fascinating subject kinda made up for it.
27 years after it hit the headlines, the ISRO espionage case is still alive and kicking.
✔What is ISRO spy story? After the ISRO-Glavkosmos agreement of 1991 to legally transfer the cryogenic rocket technology was scrapped by the Russian govt in 1993 under pressure from US........the Glavkosmos(the russian space organization) and ISRO top brass and its technocrats, including S. Nambi Narayanan & D. Sasikumaran planned to illegally transfer the cryogenic rocket technology from Glavkosmos to ISRO hoodwinking the CIA.
But the US spies knew what was happening. CIA was waiting for the waiting for the right time to stop the transfer. So it planted a conspiracy which painted 2 former ISRO technocrats as spies who sold the cryogenic rocket technology to its rival nation Pakistan and sold the nations pride. _____ The book brings out the hidden truth in the ISRO espionage case. It answers how, who and the why aspects.
Was the case false and baseless? If yes why didn't the ISRO chairman/technocrats open their mouth? Why did the kerala police and IB investigate when they didn't have the right to?
The book also highlights the ignorant nature of govt and the court. It says that right from starting everything was illegal about the case then why nobody saw that. ____ Basically this whole thing revovles around settling scores - CIA that wanted to derail India's cryogenic dreams, an inspector of kerela police who wanted to take revenge on a semi literate maldive women who refused to sleep with him, a newspaper editor who wanted to take revenge on an IPS officer, a few top level CIA moles in IB who planted what the CIA has fabricated. ___ When i finished the book it just boiled my blood that how could some people be so heartless that they will ruin life of innocent people for their political gains. It also shows our justice system itself is very cruel.
The book is like an eye opener. Yes its a bit complicated at first but once you get the hang of it you will understand it well. If you like reading on true events and stuff then go for it.

If you wish to know more about this case like what's the truth, how it all happend, what's the reality behind this allegation, than you should read this book "Classified".
Author has done a good job in researching about this case and has left no stone unturned in bringing out every bit of information about this case.
In the beginning, I found the story not so interesting, making me to stop reading it further. Usually I read 80-100 pages in one sitting but as the start of the story is a little slow paced I was hardly able to read 4-5 pages until I reached some 1/4 part of the book. There I found my little interest building up in this thriller, which is a real story. No story can interest a individual as much as real stories do. This is what happend to me, when I was in the middle of the book, I just wanted to finish the book anyhow and to know the truth.
And after reading this thriller I was amazed with the new piece of information I have gained, all thanks to the author of "Classified" for writing a book on ISRO spy case and bringing this topic to limelight.
I found the book little complicated and vocabulary is quite not so easy to understand I have to google some words to know more about them.
Classified is the findings of the reinvestigation of the ISRO spy case by the author. His adamancy in bringing out the hidden reality behind the case has resulted in the book, which is the sequel of his book, Spies From Space: The ISRO Frame-up.
Classified is the answer to the uncertainties of the case. It is laying before us the data from which the public has been deliberately blinded. The distressing and shocking exposures teach us to be alert and inquisitive.
Setting aside the authenticity of the revelations, This is a must-read to know how the undercurrents work. The author is making us think in a certain direction that we had never reckoned. It is evident of the ardent hard work and investigative skills the writer had put into this case.
The heartbreaking story of the others who were forcefully made a part of the case to take vengeance and the degree of conspiracy in the case is alarming. Why shouldn’t we know the truth? The plots, the treachery the revenge is intolerably dangerous, the vision of a bleak future where anything can happen to us if we raise our voice against power.
This book is important to invoke the mandatory curiosity of the people in such situations. The vocabulary is commendable, and the findings and explanations are precise.
▪️This book is based on a real life event and talks about the ISRO spy story. In 1994, ISRO was rocked by a spy case in which six persons were accused including S. Nambi Narayanan, there was a blame on them that they have passed critical rocket technology to a neighboring country. This case made a negative impact on ISROs image.
▪️Through this book, author has uncovered a lot of things that every Indian needs to know about such a controversial and sensitive case. I had no idea of this case before picking up this book and hence, found it really tough to get into the plot. All the technicalities and formal stuff was new to me as I don't usually read these kind of books. But as we reach the middle of the book, it gets really intriguing.
▪️It is clearly evident how much research and hard work has been put in this book. I really appreciate the author for that. Also, everything is explained in great detail, all the pitholes are also discussed.
▪️This book is not for everyone, but if you like studying about important previous cases and find these kinds of books intriguing, this can prove out to be a delight for you. Pick it up only if you're interested in this genre.
The book "Classified" is a spine chilling non fiction by Author Rajasekharan Nair .
This book is journalism book on the topic ISRO's spy case. This book talks in detail about the fragments of this topic that most of them left unnoticed or stopped talking about.
ISRO was rocked by a spy case in 1994, taking down in its wake six persons who were a part of the organisation, including S. Nambi Narayanan. They were blamed with passing the details of critical rocket technology to a foreign nation and booked for the same.
Author has done a lot of research on this, and explains the nook and corners of this case. What happened, why it happened, how it ended? Everything is discussed including some hidden facts and secrets.
This book seems very complicated and those with scientific knowledge especially about ISRo and space stuffs, can take up this book. It was a slow paced narrative with dragging concept. But author had managed well to narrate such an intense topic. Overall a decent and knowledgeable read.
Recently someone had asked me what genre makes me feel calm. Weirdly it was the genre of thrillers that took my mind off everything else and helped me escape life at the moment. And nothing can beat the sensation of a book based on real events. The story proves to be a research work thereafter.
Classified by J Rajasekharan Nair is based on the ISRO Spy Case that became major news in 1994. What did really happen? Was the espionage unbiased and incorrupt? Why were S. Nambi Narayanan and other Five people accused? Did the accused genuinely pass on crucial infrastructure information to the neighbouring country?
The author has made a credible attempt to unravel these questions. With the different writing style and shocking facts the readers stay glued to the book.
It becomes a little difficult to write a review on such a factual yet thriller paced book without disclosing detailed spoilers.
Definitely would suggest it to everyone who wants to actually know about the case, for the author has produced a thorough researched work.
Based on a true event. It's a mind blowing book. Starting from an attractive book cover leading to a superb storyline. The book speaks of the case deeply, how things happened, situations grew, case took place, who all were involved, till what level and why that all was done, to achieve what altogether actually!! The research work done by the author to pen this book is applauding. It speaks of everything that happened back in 1994. The storyline we read is all that is learnt by the author. Storyline gains the pace slowly. Book is divided into chapters to keep things clear. Language of the book is easy, vocabulary is not too hard to understand.
I enjoyed reading this book. Got to learn a lot about the case and history of our big institution.
I watched Rocketry Movie Trailer and it was a very emotional experience. Then I got this book on a recommendation from one of my friend Mohd Akhlaq who loves books like this. The premise of the story is quite interesting and is based on real-life events that occurred in ISRO 27 years ago.
It should be shown to every Indian citizen, not just youngsters. It is a great way to learn about our past and all the secrets that went on behind the scenes in the ISRO Spy Story.
A well researched, highly informative and sensitively written book on one of the most controversial stories of India. Rich in detail and quite gripping, Classified is a must-read for anyone interested in this story.

The author raises some good questions but lacks clarity & proofs. The way it’s narrated is quite repetitive too. The CIA involvement looks like a hook to capture readers but no proof or even much discussion about it was made that how exactly was CIA involved. It does raise a lot of questions about IB in my mind though.
A Revenge game and lust caused such a disastrous earthquake that made many innocent lives at stake and controversy that happened 27 years back which ruined ISRO's Name.
In beginning, I felt that there is no significant story that could give me some energy to read more but as I moved slowly to the middle part of the book it became interesting and unearthed some truth I never knew and from this book I came to know about the Isro Spy Story beforehand I didn't know anything about it.
This book is a detailed analysis of Isro espionage case that shows how one organisation want to derail India's cryogenic dream by hook or crook and how an inspector wants to save himself by painting a case on semi-literate Maldivian woman as the spy; how a newspaper editor taking revenge by defaming him by false news.
If you want to know how the Isro espionage case happened and because of whom it happened you can grab this book and unearthed the truth that lies in this book.
The author has done a marvellous job by putting the truth to the whole world and showing how the system and the people who were in power at that time misused the power they had for their personal gains and still, the constitution didn't ask questions from them.
The last 100 Page of the book accelerate the suspense of the book and will make you turn the pages as fast as you can I did the same and finished it as soon as possible, in the beginning, you can feel the story is not moving and It slows down a bit in the middle. But the eagerness to find out the truth will keep you hooked and it will excite you when it accelerates to the end.
The people of high position tried their best to frame those innocent souls whom they captured without giving them a proper justification, they tortured and harrassed them to tell the fake story on the camera so that their story seems real to the court.
Allow me to provide you with some information on the ISRO espionage spy case that made headlines in 1994. Six individuals, including S Nambi Narayanan, a scientist, and two Maldivian women, were accused of leaking confidential information about Indian space to foreign countries. I recommend reading this book to gain a deeper understanding of the case, including the facts, the events leading up to it, and the truth behind the allegations. It's more of an investigative journal than a traditional book.
Initially, I did not find the story, particularly engaging and I stopped reading after a few pages. Typically, I can read several pages at a time, but due to the slow pace of the beginning, I struggled to get through more than 4-5 pages at a time until I reached around pages 80-90. At this point, I became more interested in this true-story thriller.
Exposes the inner story of so called ISRO espionage and falsities of big ones . We come face to face with illegalities and brutalities of big arms of the state, calling itself , biggest democracy of the world.
