THIAGO I played by the rules. I did what was asked of me. I sacrificed my happiness for them. Until I lost everything. Until my heart was ripped out of my chest and my world lost its colors. I became what my mamá feared. I did what my papá never could. I lost my way. Until her. Until I met the one woman that could destroy everything I’ve worked so hard for. Until I fell for a woman that is not my wife. I’m not a good man. I never claimed to be. She was forbidden until she became my obsession. I am the evil in this world your mamá warned you about. This is my story. The story of a broken empire, a dutiful wife, and the woman who owns a dead man’s soul. The Grim Reaper’s soul. STANDALONE: Romance Suspense full-length novel.
Adriana Brinne, is a new author who fell in love with reading from a very young age but never felt brave enough to share her words with the world. Born and raised on the enchanting island of Puerto Rico, Adriana’s tropical upbringing imbued her with a deep appreciation for beauty and storytelling. By day, she navigates the world of computer science as a full-time tech, but when she’s off the clock, she indulges in her favorite contemporary romances written by her favorite authors and binge-watches The Big Bang Theory.
Adriana’s writing is characterized by her love for sweet and spicy romance, soft yet strong female protagonists, and grumpy heroes who secretly adore them. While she delights in exploring a variety of romantic tropes, she steers clear of themes involving cheating or death, preferring to craft stories that evoke all the feels without those heavy dark elements.
This is not a bad book by any means and the author did a good job, especially as a newbie. But I do feel like this book would've been way better had it been properly edited. We have so many inner monologues basically repeating the same things.
The couple was cute, but after a point they started feeling bland because nothing really happened and because of the constant repetitions. I was bored for the most part.
I'd like to give this author another try even though this one was not for me.
DNF’ed at 70%. This book had a great plot idea, but the execution came up short. Every time he said “are you scared baby girl?” I pictured the ‘are you lost baby gorl’ meme because he hadn’t really done anything to make him a scary dude aside from tell us he was lol.
Some more editing was needed here as well - there were paragraphs that had both present/past tense and some that had first and third person in the same single sentence.
1.5/5 rounded up.

Once again Adriana has added another amazing book to her Holy Trinity World. This book is book one in The Unholy Ground series. The worlds are connected but this can be read as a standalone, no need to read the other books. but if you've read her other books you will see some familiar faces which was a bonus because I'm obsessed and you will be too. Adriana comes up with very different, creative plots. From beginning to end you will be hooked.
- age gap -forbidden love -crime world - grumpy sunshine ☀️ - steam 🔥
“I'm taking everything from them."
Throne of Deception is Thiago Sandoval's story. He's is on a journey of revenge. He lives with so much pain. He suffers big losses and goes through so much heartbreak. He was a man who had so much light within him to now have only darkness. He is the Grim Reaper of Chicago but he was made that way.
Catori slowly brings that light back into his life. Catori spent most of her life anyway from the crime world that Thiago and her brother Rodrigo are heavy involved in. Catori has spent most of her teens in a school for reform girls. Her brother wanted keep her safe. But the time comes for her to leave. She ends up in the care of Thiago. She is a young girl with an old soul. She is someone who wants to live life to the fullest even though she's has suffered many losses herself. She a breath of fresh air.
Thiago and Catori are very different people, in different places in their lives but the fit perfectly together. She is his sunshine on a very dark day. And he for her.
From the first page you read of there story they completely pull you in. This is an emotional, sweet, hurtful read. Your be left with a very heavy heart.
“She's been corrupted by all this toxic darkness inside of me."
Every time I read a book set in this world I become obsessed with the characters who make a appearance. Fallon was Enzo… 🔥 I need his book. but now I need my french mans book Blythe. You get a small piece of him in TOD. I can not wait for his book. The way he speaks got me spooning 🥰
3.5 ⭐️ for Throne of Deception, The Unholy Ground Book 1.
TOD follows Thiago Sandoval and Catori Valencia. This is a forbidden, brothers best friend, guardian/ward, age gap with cheating but not between the hero and heroine.
Thiago has truly been broken by life. He had his love with his family and it was all taken away from him in a heartbreaking turn of events. Later on, Thiago assumes the responsibly of becoming a guardian to an 18 year old Catori. Her assets are available to her at 19. Only a few weeks of living in close quarters to the grumpy, cold hearted villain in charge of her fate.
I didn’t expect this book to be tied to closely with Giana, Lucian and Ariana Volpe! Being that I am very into their story and this entire going mafia plot, I think it’s safe to say we will need to read all Arianna Brinne books in order to get the full picture.
Why 3.5? Because there were parts that dragged and where I was really bored. I liked the idea of the plot and all of the surprise but it wasn’t executed well in terms of the writing. Even with the writing not being the best, I still love this series and I see that the author is really trying.
I would still read more from her. I think the books need to be less pages if they’re just going to drag though.
REVIEW ♠ This book was my one of the most anticipated book and Adriana Brinne once again showed me how much she is talented. The plot was just so good to ignore. It had full on mafia vibes. I loved every second of it. It was like a fresh air in mafia tropes. The world building for other books was great and even though it didn't had Mila Rian lol but those two my are second favorite after Thiago and catori. Thiago was so great. That man pours power with every step he takes and after losing everything his perspective of world changed. He was possessive as hell and it was hot 🥵🥵 Catori was so innocent yet so strong. She was a hidden minx too but only for Thiago. She showed that she could do everything so her man and her family. On to the cheating trope. Trust me she handled it good as the wife was absent in half of book. And the stuff I had read it wasn't a big deal for me 😂. The more taboo the more I love it. Now there's also a Korean guy too and am so excited about him because who doesn't want Asian in mafia. • 5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ • hea • Highly recommend
Throne of Deception is First book in the Unholy ground series. Thiago and Catori together brought so many emotions from me.
I know before starting the book, Thiago and Catori are two sides of a coin but I was not ready how these both handled certain situations like they're moments I was so proud of Catori for the way she handled loss, grief, life in general and I wanted to smack Thiago sometimes for some of his actions he took and also hug him for the pain and loss he went through.
I don't think I ever said this before but I love how Adriana female characters can be related to real life sometimes and she didn't miss that aspect with Catori personality. Catori is such a sunshine character that I was laughing reading some of her sassy comments. The love, understanding and companion ship she has for Thiago is so good to see.
Thiago is what he always said. He is not a good man. He made his mistakes, cheated but also loved his family to death, experienced loss like no other. He didn't bring mix of emotions from catori but also me because I wanted to smack him one moment and also hug him next. His love, possessiveness, protective nature towards Catori made me swoon.
While these both have opposite personalities, them together are BANGER. Thiago Flithy, dirty talk combined with Catori is so hot and in need of holy water. The Epilogue made me smile so much because they deserve everything this world offers. I really hope we could see their snippets more in future books.
Now to the most crucial, important and amazing aspect of the book, which is THE CRUMBS !!!!! Adriana made me screaming with the crumbs and I had drawn so many theories from those crumbs that I can't wait some of them to happen
I’ve spent days going over how to review this book but I keep coming short of words. Thiago and Catori’s story is threaded with heartbreak and loss and a love that’s so uniquely theirs it’s hard not to fall for them over the course of the pages of this book.
This book has exceeded my expectations, and the cameos of all the other characters were definitely my favourite! I can not wait for more of all of them because I just know all of them are going to serve in their broken glory!
If you’re worried about the cheating, I suggest you give this book a chance because I assure you it will surprise you in the very best if ways!
This Book was Beta read and received for an Honest Review. :)
My rating: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ Romance: ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Steam: 🌶🌶🌶🌶

"Tell me something, sweet Catori. Would you ever love a monster?"
"Throne of Deception." Another amazing read by the lovely Adriana Brinne. Firstly thank you for allowing me the oppurtunity to beta read and secondly for introducing two more amazing characters with beautiful stories. When Adriana first teased TOD, I just knew I was going to fall in love with sweet Catori and the grim reaper himself Thiago. I went into the book blind and I was so glad I did.
Catori is just a sweet, bright, ray of sunshine. Her character was just how I imagined her. She's young, intelligent, and just spreads so much happy energy. I enjoyed getting to watch her grow and getting to know her story.
Thiago. He was exactly how I imagined him to be. The grim reaper himself has a very dark past. You get to see his character take on many obstacles.
As for both of them togther. Catori brings out a soft side of him that I loved so much.
When Adriana first teased that the story would have a cheating trope, I was scared to read the book because I don't tend to read books with the cheating trope in them. However, Adriana completely chhanged that. Just know it's not what you expect it to be. I went into the book with certain expectations and to say everything was unexpected is an understatement. After reading, I completely understand what Adriana meant by that statement!
Every time I read a book by Adriana she just continues to amaze me and improve. She is such a kind and positive author and person. I absolutely love being one of her readers and I can't wait to see what else she has in store for this journey!
This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend Adriana's other books because their just as amazing!
1. Andrea “The Beginning “ 2. Lucan “The End” 2.5 The Holy Trinity Diaries 3. Fallon "The Madman"
Bonus: The Unholy Trinity Diaries Bonus: Unholy Night “The Novella”
Thiago and Catori's Story Once I start reading it I couldn't stop until I'm finished reading about them. Thiago and Catori's Story was full of emotions, heartbreak and love too. Catori being the sweetheart and Thiago every bit of angry Alpha male.
If we talk about plot Adriana's plots and twists in stories will always leave you amaze and this was fabulous. Thiago and Catori's Story was full of turns, secrets and revenge.
And seeing all the characters I've read before omgosh it was so good to see them again. Every time it gets better. And Adriana's writing, story and everything has improved so much it make me so emotional, happy🤧 and proud of her as her reader from the beginning. And so excited for the next book in series omgosh yasss.
Throne of Deception is a story of loss, love, and learning to live again. If I had to describe this book in one word, it would definitely be “heartbreaking”.
Thiago’s backstory is so full of angst. You can see where his actions come from once you read about his past. It’s almost tangible.
Catori is the highlight of this book. She was exactly how I expected her to be. Young, idealistic, and so full of light. I admired the strength she showed throughout the story. Her chapters were like a breath of fresh air.
Of course, I can’t write this review without mentioning the crumbs. I was waiting for all the other characters to appear, and I was NOT disappointed. Waiting for all the other books is even harder now *sigh*.
Starting right off the bat, this book was an experience to say the least; there were heavy topics regarding death & unresolved trauma. I honestly really thought Adriana did an amazing job in regards to executing that.
In terms of characters; Catori!! She is a complete softie I utterly adored, and Thiago was exactly what his name upheld: the man with the grim reaper's soul
If I am being real; cheating romances have never, and will never be my thing at all, I actually despise them but when I heard that this book was not something you'd expect as a cheating romance I was like what could that mean? I went into the book with certain expectations and to say everything was unexpected is an understatement. After reading, I completely understand what Adriana meant by that statement! The forbidden trope was done fairly well, I just wish the story was a bit more equally paced with a touch more of character depth, but nonetheless, I see major improvement again in writing, which is absolutely amazing! I love being able to see a positive journey! By the time the two series end, I cannot imagine what magic Adriana will bring!
(also, we see a few details + features regarding other couples, and i am obsessed; the volpe + nicolasi empire >>>)
once again, good read! thanks again adriana for the arc, i always appreciate it!! cannot wait for the other books!
Excellent read!!! Page-turner, steamy and action packed!!
Best friend's sister, age-gap, married man, super-steamy, mafia romance! Throne of Deception is so intense, and this page-turner is Adriana Brinne's new number 1 for me.
Thiago is the devil. He is so dark it appears as though there is no light in him. Although, after all that he has been through with his family and in life, I understand him and why he is that way. Yet, he also has a romantic side that was bursting at the seams for Catori.
Catori is such a bright light! She is always smiling even when she is hurting. Catori always had a significant crush on Thiago but knew she could never say. Yet, she can see beyond his darkness to the person underneath. I absolutely loved how she talked to Thiago, a man who everyone fears, yet she only knows how to love him.
Can this sunflower help the grim reaper see some light? I can't wait to read more stories from Adriana!!
topes: forbidden romance | age gap | grumpy + sunshine
This book was a good read if you’re into mafia romances + the tropes mentioned above. However, my favorite part was getting to see some of the older characters make a comeback.
At first it felt like thiago and catori’s relationship was mostly lust but by the end of the book you can see their relationship starting to develop a little bit.
This book gave us more of an insight on bastian and what his personality is like which i loved so i can’t wait for what’s to come.
Finally, this was a decent read but i would’ve preferred if we got to see their romance develop more + more character depth as well as a more focused plot.
I didn’t know how much I needed this book until I got my hands on it. Thiago Sandoval was the right amount of evil and savage. And with good cause. He was such a broken man, yet very ruthless. He was the heir to the Sandoval empire, which was built on everything that the Mafia does. And I’m here for it all. He wanted to do things the way that his uncle believed the family should be lead. Yet his father was “too soft”. Giving into the the Holy Trinity - which were the leading families of Detroit. He literally bent the knee to them, and in Thiago’s eyes, he became their bitch. And that cost him everything. He didn’t believe that he would ever see Heaven, that is until he held his daughter for the first time. Which by the way, his wife was a total bitch, because she tricked him into their marriage. He didn’t love her, but he married her because of his mother. All to please her and makes sure that his daughter wasn’t considered a bastard. Everything was okay in his life, until the unthinkable happened. And his entire world was destroyed. I absolutely hated what happened and how it happened, because no parent should ever have to go threw this. But this made him into the Grim Reaper of Chicago. And he ruled with an iron fist. That is, until sweet Catori comes back into his life. And she IS a sweet teenager - or at least he considers her a teenager because she is shy of turning Nineteen years old. And unfortunately for him, his best friend Rodrigo left him the responsibility of taking care of her upon his death. And that is exactly what he ends up doing. What happens in the coming weeks is absolutely STEAM. And I was here for all of it. I don’t know why, but there was something about their age gap that just drew me in. I loved how protective and demanding he was. He was ALL alpha, maybe sometimes a little too much, but it was okay. Because he seemed to be exactly what Catori needed. Because she was nothing but smiles and sunshine. Exactly what Thiago needed in his life. He didn’t think he deserved her, but he wasn’t willing to give her up. I know that the fact that he was married was an issue for a lot of the readers, but I found that their relationship was more than justified. Because his wife was a total bitch. And she deserved everything that came her way. Anyways, I feel like this author has easily become one of my favorites, since her writing style was really good - addicting actually.
Throne of Deception is the the first standalone book in the Unholy Ground series. Adriana really surprised me when she shared the news of this book. I was not expecting it but I was looking forward to read it. Thiago was first introduced in the UN novella & he sounded interesting. And it got me curious.
The story started off with pain, loss and heartbreak. I felt bad n sorry for Thiago. Losing all the people who were everything to u would break any person. And he really was broken which got him so blinded with anger, agony n Vengeance. Ngl he irritated me at times with his over-confidence. But I guess I can understand everybody who is in his position would act the same way. Pls that man pissed off everyone with his attitude. He was not a good man in anyway. But some of his actions made him look like a decent human.
Catori was just everything. The way that girl would smile through pain made me respect her so much. The way she say good in people and bought light to any place she goes. She was so cute and sweet. Her strength is so admiring. I loved reading her chapters. She may look innocent from the outside but she was a vixen in the inside. I love her so much.
Thiago and Cat's relationship started with a huge loss when they lost a person they both adored. They gave each other comfort & the way Thiago wanted to make every dream of her to come true to keep his promise. Their beginning was not heart n flower. But as the time went, they become something to each other. She gave him something he thought he never would have ever again. And they were really hot together.
My favourite part of the book was the crumbs of the side characters. LUCAN VOPE, U LL ALWAYS BE FAMOUS. The way ppl saw as weak but my man keeps proving them wrong. LORENZO, LOML, he was his usual unhinged self. Sebastian, WE OFFICIALLY MET THE MAN. AND HE WAS SO SEK C. I can't wait to read more about him more.
Overall This book was good. Adriana keeps getting better and better in each book. I can't wait to read the next book. IT IS GOING TO BE CARA LORENZO BOOK. OMFG THE ONE I HV BEEN WAITING SINCE THE START.
Thanks Adriana for the giving me the opportunity to read the book early and review it.
Thiago and Catori’s story, had me in a chokehold the entire time I was reading it! I fell in love with both of them together and individually. They complement each other so but so well!! Thiago with his filthy mouth, grumpiness and rudeness and catori with her sass, kindness and loving heart. She accepted and loved thaigo in every way and that was so beautiful!!! I just wish I could go back to the moment where I first started reading because I can’t get enough of the two of them! They will live in my mind rent free for a long time!! And the chef’s kiss is the smut between the two of them! Their chemistry goes through the roof!! What I loved the most was the fact that we see a change in Thiago and in catori after they fall in love with each other, it’a like everything falls into place but even in their personality we see some significant changes!! I would totally recommend everyone to read this book!! It was sweet, heartbreaking, dark and very sexy!! Ps : I never thought I would love a book so much with a cheating trope but the truth is I hated Emilia from the very second she appeared in the book!
And I’m only giving 4.5 stars to TOD, only because I wanted more on the epilogue although we get an insight from the future of them together I would’ve loved a few more details in some of the things on the epilogue but apart from that PLEASE READ THIS BOOK IT IS WORTH EVERY SECOND OF YOUR MONEY AND TIME PEOPLE!
So I originally found this book through Instagram reels when the author posted a video with the scene from the book and OH MY LORD I was HOOKED. Everything about this book was soooo good🥹🥹
Honestly, don’t let the tropes put you off, because I usually hate Pregnancy and marriage but the way this book was written>>>. Whenever i’m reading and see these, It will definitely take stars off, I can’t stand them, however these were written beautifully.
Also the grumpy (who is secretly a softy) x sunshine trope is amazing. I’M ALL HERE FOR IT.
I really enjoyed this book because she was so happy, but also a bad bitch. Finally a female who is soft but also Hard as nails :) I really loved the fact that he bought a car (a yellow ferrari) In her favourite colour, I thought it was so cute.
The plot twists in this book were shocking, but please google trigger warnings as I can see why these can be traumatic :) xx
I reccomend this book to anyone 14+, Who is looking for a mafia romance with a happy ending x :))

4.5⭐ . "Once upon a fucking dark time, i believed that the heart in my chest had only one purpose, and that was to pump blood to my veins and keep me alive. That's all. After i lost my Sunshine, i believed that nothing but coldness was left, and nothing has the power to soften it". UNTIL HER 🖤. . 🌻Throne of deception⭐⭐⭐⭐.5. .
Throne of Deception is the first book that I've read by Adriana Brinne and it certainly won't be the last. Judging by the blurb, I can already tell that the book would turn out amazing, and I stand corrected. I never thought that the story would end up winning me over, but it did and I really enjoyed most parts of the book. I really liked Thiago and Catori's story especially since they gave me what I yearn for when I decided to read this book. It was definitely an emotional story that I would recommend to everyone. On a side note, I'm really interested to read the stories of the other characters that made an appearance in this book. I just know that I will love their story as much as I did with Throne of Deception.
Personally, I admit that I wanted to omit this book because it involves cheating. However, based on the author's statement, I gave her a chance. God, I love it. I really hate cheating and whoever you have as well give this book a chance as well. She's excused ... Catori is an amazing heroine. So kind, refreshing, nice, just sunshine. Thiago has been in the dark for a very long time. Grumpy, cold ... but he comes to life with Cator, melts his frozen heart. Their story is full of anxiety but beautiful at the same time. There is no lack of tension, mafia, danger. I love the epilogue, every single part of it.
I love this Unholy world! Each main character is so different and very interesting.
Thiago has a past that is so heartbreaking that I totally understand why he is the way he is! He is total darkness. Catori is the opposite of him a beautiful shining light!
Reading Catori’s perspective was making me stupid. She was fucking gross. All of her earlier chapters were just lusting and being horny and being cringe over Thiago. Like this is the girl who just lost her fucking brother who by the way is the best character in this book. I cried when I read his letter because it was plain sweet, caring and full of love for his sister. Man I love him.
The H is married because she trapped him. It's mafia & very violent. The H's daughter with the OW is killed (along with his mother, sister, uncle, & lots of his men). He & the OW stay married but he hates her. His best friend/right hand man gets killed & asks the H to take care of his sister (she's at boarding school). He brings her to his house (she's 18) & starts falling for her. She's falling for him too but knows he's married. The OW treats the h really badly. he wasn't sleeping with the wife/OW but he also didn't cheat. He just didn't have s.e.x. with anyone. Then the h came along. They have s.e.x. & he calls his lawyer to start divorce proceedings against the wife. The wife turns the H's cousin & they try to kill the H & h but they don't succeed. The h kills the wife

Heartbreaking...but magical at the same time. What one person can endure in a lifetime isn't fair... But as always I always believe that the universe has a plan for each and every one of us and we just have to trust that no matter what we will all be happy
This story broke my heart, everything Thiago Sandavol goes through is just so heartbreaking and it will most definitely bring tears to your eyes. The tropes of this book might be a little off putting for some of you but I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a chance. The characters are so beautifully complex that it adds on the appeal of the book. I love how Adrianna Brinne never condemns her characters to one side of the moral scale, the hero is never the hero and the villain is never the villain.
This book was truly a breath of fresh air when it comes to mafia romance and I can’t wait to for her other books.
My first 5 star books of 2022! - This book had a hold on me I swear could not stop reading it! I’ll say this once and many times but I’m an absolute sucker for forbidden romance! -
Catori (I imagined her as Özge Gürel or Martyna)
I loved her! The sunshine! She didn’t annoy me one bit! Love how no matter what happened she always had a smile on her face and the way she changed Thiago, loved him, and RESPECTED his privacy!
Thiago ( I imagined him as David Gandy once again lol)
The grumpiest of all! You just want to hug him after everything that’s happened to him! Love how he cared for Catori in many ways ;) but also is the best I don’t care what y’all say- - This book was gonna be 4.5 stars but the epilogues did it for me and I’m so happy they had a happy ending as they deserve! Love Catori and Thiago!!! I just wish there was a little bit more forbidden but this was enough! Overall, 5/5 love this book!
—— REREAD 03/01/23-03/04/23 — This shouldn’t have taken me 3 days to finish this book- - This book has a the best happy ending in a dark romance it makes me sick :,D
Catori (FC: Martyna Balsam): - THE SUNSHINE OF THE SUNSHINE!!! - This is someone you want to have a friend like! - The way she smiles even when there’s bad time she still has the smile on her face!
Thiago (FC: Riccardo Bosio) - This man is so hot I can’t lie to you- - You want to hug with your whole might for him after everything he’s been through. - I’m so glad he got his happy ending he deserves it!
— This book has my whole heart I won’t lie to you. Rereading it made me feel comfort and I’m glad I read it but upset that it took my long to read it. There’s something I don’t like such as the grammar in the book- There were a few and the formatting was not good as well. A reminder to check, check, and check on your writing! — Overall a 5/5 star! The best happy ending and the best epilogue that made me happy and make me sick at the same time! Love this book forever ♡
I hate cheating and this was my first cheating romance. Adriana told that this isn't exactly the typical cheating and she was right. I'm so glad I read this book.
Catori was so bright. I now understand why Adriana associated her with yellow sunflowers. She has been through her fair share of pain but put on a smile regardless. It was amazing how they both just understood each other's pain, they were perfect together. And Thiago, our sunshine protector was so grumpy all the time and I loved it😂 Catori did too! This story was so unexpected but I enjoyed every second of it. Plus the cameos!! I was so happy when we got to see Lucan and so many others and now it's really hard to wait for everyone's books!
