Minor league player Stone Dumelin lost his younger brother when the Titans’ team plane went down. He never expected the phone call that followed.

After a shoulder injury put my NHL career on ice, I resigned myself to the fact I’d never see my way out of the minor league again. As my career faded, my estranged brother’s star shot into orbit as the first line left winger for the Pittsburgh Titans. But when the team’s plane crashed returning home one night, his light was snuffed out, and I was given the opportunity of a lifetime.

Now I’m in Pittsburgh, playing for the Titans, and face-to-face with my dead brother’s ghost at every turn. His locker, his legacy, his persistent and annoyingly gorgeous attorney who won’t stop contacting me about his estate, even though I’ve demanded she leave me alone.

Harlow Alston would be extremely appealing if she wasn’t so aggravating. Only…that’s a complete lie. She pushes all the right buttons for me, and as much as I want her to quit pestering me about Brooks’s estate, I find myself intrigued by the fiery redhead who can’t take no for an answer. And the more I learn about Harlow, the more I find she might be the key to understanding who Brooks really was, and who I want to be.

I’ve got a second shot at a career I thought I’d lost and the opportunity to build something real with Harlow, but can I find strength to move forward or will my past dictate my future?

Stone Dumelin was a successful, famous athlete in the NHL when he had a career changing injury that sent him down to the minors. He had accepted his fate, and then an opportunity comes his way born of tragedy. The Titans organization suffered a huge loss when their teams plane went down. Now they are in the process of trying to rebuild the team. He’s shocked when he gets the call for the chance to rekindle his professional hockey career by joining the Titans. He accepts, but is at war with his emotions since he lost his younger brother in the crash. He’s been estranged from his dysfunctional family the last few years, and lives with regrets and guilt regarding the strained relationship he shared with his brother Brooks. As his brothers star shined, he became the outsider in the family. His sibling received all his parents attention and devotion, while he learned to keep everyone at arms length. While settling into a new job in a new city his brothers ghost seems to be everywhere he turns. It’s as if he’s stepping into his shoes and his life, and he feels like he doesn’t belong. He’s lonely and has no one in his corner he can count on. Then he meets Harlow Alston. She’s smart, independent, confident, feisty and extremely pushy. She’s his brothers attorney, and is determined to carry out his wishes about his estate. As she tries to reach out to him, she won’t take no for an answer. He clashes with the gorgeous redhead who he learns might be the only key to truly knowing who his brother was. As he gets to know her a friendship forms and a connection grows. Will he continue to always feel like he’s taking his brothers place, or will he finally see hope for the future, and get a second chance at happiness?

▪️Stone is book #2 of the Pittsburgh Titans series by Sawyer Bennett. Dual POV with a happy ending.

Genre: Contemporary Romance.
Tropes:
➵friends to lovers
➵tortured hero
➵sports romance
➵slow burn

Sawyer Bennett follows the poignancy of Baden with this equally moving story about letting go of the past, seizing life and second chances.

Stone Dumelin went from Stanley Cup winner to minor league player and never expected to go back to the NHL. But after the Titans’ shocking plane crash took his brother along with the rest of the team, Stone signs on to play for the new Titans team.

Not only does Stone have to face his brother’s legacy and his father’s renewed interest in him, he must also deal with his brother’s estate trustee.

Harlow Alston is not just gorgeous and whip smart, she was also Brooks Dumelin’s friend and confidant. Stone realizes she’s the key to getting to know his brother, but can he find the strength to face his brother’s ghost in order to move on with his future?

The character development is exceptional! Sawyer Bennett made Harlow and especially Stone feel complete real in their baggage and complexities. Their story was rife with emotion, showcasing the worthwhile challenge of opening one’s heart to right person.

I can’t wait to continue reading this wonderful series!

HARLOW + STONE

Stone used to be in the NHL, but an injury destroyed that dream and for the last few years he's been playing in the minors. But his dad had another son to play super-proud-hockey-dad for. And now that's over too. Brooks died in the Pittsburgh Titans plane crash and suddenly Stone is called to play for his brother's team. And daddy is back to be proud daddy.
Harlow was Brooks' friend and he appointed her as executor of his will.
With detailed instructions on how to handle things with his brother.

That was adorable. But also very heartbreaking.
Those poor brothers! They could've been the bestest of buddies these last years but this horrible father. Grr. 😡
Harlow and Stone are perfect for each other - but of course it takes them a while to get there.
I adored the dog(s)!!!
I hated the 'disease' in the story. I can't have my heros or their girls be sick - in whatever way. Nope. I hate that. #HardLimit
But still - it was a cute love story. A story more about Stone getting to know his late brother through Harlow and the journals.
And a story about a new hockey team and all their problems ...

Can we please get a Sawyer Bennett Hockey Netflix series now??

STONE was an adorable + very heartbreaking love story in this brand new hockey world! ☺ Run to your nearest amazon for your own STONE - this one is MINE!

this author really wants me to feel something, sadly the only thing I'm feeling is bored.

the last book was 90% sports and this one is: 90% grief (the hero's brother passed away)
5% sports
5% romance (friends to lovers)
I'm a romance reader, with an emphasis on romance, so for me, this series so far has been quite boring.

Unghhhh! I knew this series was going to be amazing. I just knew!

I friggin' loved Stone so much!

I absolutely adored this whole storyline. I loved the respectful tone given to Stone's grieving, and the layers and complexities of his character arc. I loved the way he had to adjust to the circumstances of his second chance at professional hockey, and come to terms with the wasted time he could never get back with his brother. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming and it all felt so real. Add to that the sweet evolution of his relationship with Harlow and - guh - this story hit me right in my emotional sweet spot.

The romance was basically perfection for me. I loved getting glimpses inside both Harlow and Stone's heads. I loved (loved!) the shift from their adversarial meet-cute, to friendship, to the way their romance took finally overtook them both (and my heart right with them). One thing I have always loved about Sawyer Bennett books is the moxie she gives her female characters. They are always strong and smart, with solid backbones and hearts of gold. Harlow was no exception. I loved that she owned her own baggage, the confidence she had in her own person, and the determined way she approached her life. She was perfect for Stone and I loved them together so much.

This story felt special. It was essentially, the catharsis of Stone Dumelin - which was a spectacular journey to witness. It was romantically satisfying, sexy, and sweet. It was emotionally compelling and compulsively readable. Best of all? It left me hungry for so much more of these players and this shattered team rising from the ashes of tragedy. Stone was another easy five star read for me and I am beyond excited for more! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

3.5 stars. Not as good as book 1… each book in this series has gotten progressively worse imo.

Frankly, the timeline that this author wrote for this hockey team is LUDICROUS. Not only are they barely affected by grief, but they are basically moving on with their lives within a month. I don’t buy what this author is trying to sell me, this book minimizes the grieving process to almost nothing and it’s just gross.

Besides the major issues with her timeline, the story was fine. I especially liked the heroine, who was mature and took no shit from the hero. I do think that this whole series goes VERY overboard when it comes to past trauma, and I liked that the heroine was *only* a recovering alcoholic and hadn’t lost half of her leg in a polar bear attack.

SWE;
-Story starts with H waking up in bed with OW - which is when he gets the news that the team’s plane crashed.
-He isn’t with anyone else until the heroine, which is like a month, because of the terrible timeline.
-Heroine had been celibate for a while, lots of double standards in this series with manwhore hero’s and heroines who only had 1-2 long term partners.
-No OM/OW drama or scenes
-No cheating

When Sawyer Bennett decided to do this new series about a hockey team regrouping after an extremely tragic experience, she decided to not play it safe. It is my opinion that she remembered or researched real-life moments, such as when teams have been involved in fatal accidents, and thought on how would those left behind recover and move forward.

Not an easy task, yet with the careful development of the new and old characters we have met through Bennett's past hockey series, she has done the impossible. She has given us people we can understand and root for, knowing in the end with Bennett's signature writing, things will come together.

Stone's brother was on the Titan team's plane when it went down.
Stone was dealing with the level of play he was doing in the minor leagues. He had once been a star in NHL but an injury and personal experience with his family made it difficult to recover fully. He and his brother had been distant, only connecting with phone calls on Christmas. The bitterness stemmed from parents who were masters at manipulation.

Now the Titans are regrouping and looking for players. The call goes to Stone to join the team. The offer is something he really cannot turn down, plus his love of the game has always been there. However, Stone is shackled with feelings that cannot be ignored. He is there because he is worthy or because he is the brother of the lost player. This is something he has to get straight in his head.

He also has to deal with his brother's estate which he has no interest in. Harlow Alston, his brother's attorney is after him to hear the reading of the will and take care of the necessary papers.

Harlow was close to the fallen brother, knew him well, understood all the pressures he was under and was always there for him. As a good friend, she heard many stories about Stone, learned about the estrangement and how Stone's brother wanted to reach out and fix things.

Taking this premise, giving it a real-life feel and understanding of all the pressures professional players are under, the relationships of children and driven parents, and the dealing with loss is all done so well. On top of that, we get a first-rate relationship between Stone and Harlow.

I'm often asked what makes a book a five star read for me and the answer is simple, I need to connect with the characters, the story line needs to flow nicely, and it needs to evoke an emotion from me (it usually means tears but not always), which is exactly why STONE was given five stars...although I wish I could give it more.

Stone Dumelin's story was one I knew before hand would be an emotional read, what I didn't know was just how bad things were in Stone's life before the death of his younger brother and that is what pushed me over more than I had expected.

Stone has been called up from the minor league to play for the Pittsburgh Titans after most of the team and coaches were killed in a plane crash, including Stone's younger brother Brooks. So it's only natural for Stone to wonder if they called him up for his abilities or because of who his brother was.

Harlow Alston is tasked with being the trustee of her late friend Brooks' estate, she knows how difficult his family can be from the stories she's heard but it isn't until she needs to get in touch with Stone that she starts to realize what Brooks had meant. But the chemistry between the two is amazing even in their first heated meeting.

I loved the connection between Harlow and Brooks which later carried over to Stone. Friendship - a true friendship - one that you can tell all of your secrets to, and apparently Brooks had quite a few of them, is a blessing to have when you can't confide in your own family. My heart totally broke for Brooks and then for Stone when he found things out that he never knew. The hurt and pain, damn I starting to tear up as I'm recalling everything. Anyway, this is a powerful read that will have you wishing things could've worked out differently for Brooks in the end.

Sawyer Bennett had warned readers that this series was going to be more emotional and she wasn't kidding so my advice to you...keep the tissues handy.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Steamy Sports Romance, or Contemporary Romances.

Happy Reading!!!

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

I enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would - and by that I mean that I had been hoping for a different characters story to come next in this series - not anything against the author, as I always enjoy her work.

Stone turned out to be a wonderfully layered character, and there were some really emotional sections of this book. I loved getting to know him and also Harlow who I really liked as well. And lets not forget Odin!

I enjoyed the journey of these two getting to know each other, but also of seeing Stone learning about his brother and coming to (or starting to) terms with what had happened. Also some great hockey and team scenes, and some more snippets about other teammates we are curious about in this series. Definitley interested to see how those play out.

I thoroughly enjoyed all the emotional, angry and fun moments of this book and look forward to reading more from this series. Would recommend.

While there was a lot going on with Stone and his issues and a bit with Harlow and her issues they managed to work things out pretty quickly. I think it helped that they had Stone's brother to connect them and I'm glad that they ended on a great note. But what I wish there was more of was the hockey team, how they built to a team from nothing, how they are dealing with issues coming up, the out of control player and the coach who's in over his head. Both books so far have only touched on these things lightly, I would have thought it would be more of an issue.

Stone by Sawyer Bennett is a beautifully written, heartfelt read and I loved it.

The storyline is emotional, entertaining and held my interest from start to end.

Stone and Harlow are likable, passionate characters that I loved getting to know. I enjoyed their banter and I loved how Harlow wasn't a pushover, she was a strong character with a huge heart.
They were perfect together and I'm sure Brooks was smiling down on them, happy the two people he loved most had found love & happiness together.

Stone is a wonderful addition to the Pittsburgh Titans series, each book has been a joy to read and I'm excited to read Gage's book next.

Soul-searching, regret and hope…

Wow, did Stone and Harlow blow me away. Loss, grief, compassion, empathy. Sheer stubbornness. How do you move forward when you can’t break free of the past? If you’re lucky, and you don’t give up, you come to grips with the past, find acceptance, and maybe even love...

This series is about moving forward after unspeakable loss in the high-powered of professional hockey. Stone’s brother was gone and so much was left unsaid. To lose his brother, again, was torture and he was angry. With himself, his brother, his parents. At an opportunity for a second chance at an NHL career. His fury knew no bounds until he met an even angrier dog and a stubborn lawyer…

Harlow was there to help him navigate the impossible. She was sincere and knew just what to do and say to get through to him. How their relationship went from this to that was funny and frustrating, but above all, beautiful… I wanted to hug the stuffing out of both of them, their feelings pinging my heart over and over again. I wanted to crawl into the pages and stand in support of them. Hug them. Laugh with them. Cry with them….

Emotions were high yet the drama that surrounded them was full of heart and hope – things they (anyone) can never have enough of. Amazing read! ~Diane, 5 stars

Oh my word! I absolutely loved Stone’s story, one of my favourite reads so far this year. It’s been a while since I’ve read a hockey romance that’s had me captivated throughout. I loved grumpy Stone Dumelin even before I started this story (we had insights into his character in book 1, Baden), and he was everything I love in a main character. Hotheaded, protective, humble, annoying (at times), sexy, a little troubled. Maybe those are things that some don’t like about a hero, but that’s not the case with me. Stone is my kind of hero. Then we have Harlow. She was the epitome of imperfectly perfect. She owned her mistakes, she admitted when she was wrong and she understood Stone, even when he was been insufferable she gave him the space he needed. She was humble, kind, and perfectly flawed. Opposites definitely attract in this emotional enemies to friends to lovers. I can’t wait for more Titans.
The audio is narrated to utter perfection by two of my favourites - Jason Clarke and Ava Erickson - I couldn’t imagine anyone better for Stone and Harlow. Most definitely one of my favourite audios in a long time.

Waste of money

The first one was also a waste of money. Im not sure where shes going with this series but they are nothing like anything else she has. THeres 0 chemistry between the characters in either books of this series. Slow, slow burn. They dont even flirt with eachother until 65% in book, then finaly kiss at 71%, even then theres no chemistry, no feelings, it sucked. I stopped at 80%. Wont be buying anymore of the series.

Review by Trinette Dungee

Stone Dumelin was at the top of his game and had the world in the palm of his hand as a professional hockey player, but when a shoulder injury sidelines him and sends him down to the minors his world is turned upside down. Along with the sting of losing his career, he now has to watch his younger brother live the life he lost. The younger brother who was once his best friend, and who’s now been estranged from for the past few years.

The most tragic of events has given him a second chance in the majors. When a plane crash takes the lives of the entire Pittsburgh Titans Team, Stone is called up to join the newly formed team. Stone is not only trying to find his footing on this new team, but he’s grappling with the loss of his younger brother Brooks, who was a victim in the fatal crash.  When Stone receives messages from Harlow Alston about his brother’s affairs, he responds to her by saying he wants nothing from his brother; but Harlow does not give up.

When her friend Brooks died in a plane crash it nearly broke Harlow, it had her tempted to go back to a lifestyle that wasn’t the healthiest for her. Brooks has tasked her with the ultimate favor. He’s asked her to reach out to his brother and execute his final wishes. Stone was less than receptive to Harlow’s requests. The Stone she meets is rude, brash, and arrogant, but Harlow knows it comes from a place of hurt.

Stone learns that Harlow isn’t just handling a legal matter for his brother, they were actually friends. Getting to know Harlow lets him get to know his brother all over again and helps him deal with his guilt and the loss. Harlow introduces him to a side of Brooks that he never knew existed, or at least his brother wasn’t ready to share with him.

What I loved most about this book is that Stone and Harlow are two very flawed people and their flaws aren’t sugar coated. While Harlow may appear to have her life together, she is battling demons of her own. It’s while battling these demons that she meets Brooks and learns about his life and his complicated relationship with Stone. In fact, Stone discovers that Harlow knows quite a lot about him. Although she’s only gotten Brooks’ version of him, she was able to read him pretty easily.

Stone and Harlow come from very different worlds. Harlow comes from wealth, old money with very supportive parents and family. Stone never knew wealth until he made it to the majors and his parents were far from supportive. He had a manipulative, sadistic, abusive father and an enabling mother.

I just recently finished another book where the phrase “The sins of the parents will be visited upon their children”, initially I took this to mean that the kids would ultimately pay the price for whatever wrongs their parents did. This statement also fits this story, but in a much different way. His father’s parenting of his brother and him had such an effect on him that it’s something Stone doesn’t realize until meeting Harlow’s family and Stone questions his ability to be in a relationship or have a family for fear that he will be just like his father.

Stone’s story seems to be broken up into two sections. The first being his struggle to overcome the guilt he felt about his brother, coming to terms with the type of person their father was, the type of father who would deliberately pit two brothers against each other in order to always have the upper hand. The second, focuses on Stone’s ability to accept his new life and the possibility of a new relationship.

This is only book number two in the series, but I’m loving how it’s going so far. The ability to build storylines that all center around one tragic event is proving to be very interesting. The other thing I loved about this book was the focus on Stone, although it’s a dual POV, the primary character remained Stone. Often times, dual POV stories tend to be heavy on the female character, but this one kept Stone at the forefront.

I couldn’t wait for this book to be released on audio, I just knew it would be amazing. Both narrators did each character justice. They bought Stone and Harlow alive for me. I’m pretty’s sure I’ll be revisiting this book again and listening with glee.

There is something about this series that has me mesmerised. They still have the familiar SB brawn, steam and humor, but these are deeper. Not angsty, but a more enrichment to the stories. Everyone deals with a tragedy differently, and each story so far shows that. This book is even more touching because the main characters lost someone they loved on that plane. For Stone, it was his brother and Harlow, her closest friend - they both miss Brooks deeply. And even though Stone wasn't in touch with Brooks for a while, that brotherly bond is strong.

One thing I am learning in my old age, is that there is nothing wrong with vulnerability, it is not a sign of weakness. It is totally the opposite, in both genders, that being vulnerable is actually an asset. It shows you have empathy and compassion, and that you have good heart. Nothing is more apt for both Harlow and Stone. Each have demons from their past that could control their life completely, but Harlow learns well before Stone that they are both stronger than their weakness. Each of them are going through their sorrow but they still have a softheartedness towards others and their own battles. I kept having this overwhelming feeling of sadness for Stone and his loss, and how it was piling up on him but it opened up his mind and allowed him to have a meaningful connection with Harlow.

There are some great secondary characters as well - also some sleazy ones, but you'll know who they are when you get to them. The two I want to talk about are Bonita and Odin. Bonita is Harlow's right hand gal in the office and she is a hoot! I loved her sharp wit and her heart of gold. But the one that stole the show for me was Odin, that big mutt! Being a dog lover, and having had a boxer, I could relate to all the dog antics, which had me giggling all the time. It bought back such good memories.

As with all SB book series, there were crumbs of what is to come in the following books. Gage is up next, and he seems like a very upstanding hero. After that, it is Coen, and you just know that one is going to hurt, big time before he gets his HEA.

I’m loving the new Pittsburgh Titan’s team and was excited to get to meet Stone, the first player on the roster.

Although, I have to say that I did not instantly love Stone. He was bitter and detached. Having lost his brother, Brooks, in the accident that took the entire Titan’s team, and having g lost his parents to their own detachment years ago despite the fact that they were still alive, Stone was angry and resentful. Even being given a second chance at playing NHL hockey, Stone mourned the fact that it was at the expense of his brother’s death, and that while they had been close as children, Brooks died without the two of them mending the rift in their relationship.

Enter Harlow, who held the role of executor of Brooks’ will. While her and Stone initially got off on the wrong foot, her determination to do what was right for her friend won out. She was able to not only give Stone those possessions Brooks left behind, but the priceless gift of knowledge and memories. Harlow was able to fill in the gaps for Stone, allowing him to truly know the brother that was now gone, helping to keep his memory alive.

I did feel like the relationship between Stone and Harlow developed more quickly than I found believable. I do understand that the shared love for Stone’s brother was a deep commonality for them, so I can see how they were able to establish a connection faster than normal. But I feel like they went from friends to deep abiding love at a rather rapid pace.

Nonetheless, it got these two where I wanted them to go. I enjoyed getting to know the new players, and enjoyed the journey that Harlow and Stone went on to get them to their happily ever after. Both of them worked for it and had to fight battles to get there, and I found this story to be one I didn’t want to put down.

I definitely liked this one better than the first one but I’m still having such a hard time connecting with these characters. I really felt for Stone & Harlow. They’re both grieving & trying to navigate their life without Brooks. I love how they were able to help each other move forward.

My heart absolutely ached for Stone. I can’t imagine the pain of losing a sibling, & an estranged one at that. There were so many conversations they needed to have but I’m glad he was able to get closure. & their father is an absolute asshole. He robbed them of their brotherhood.

DNF at 8%.

I was warned but having the book repeat scenes we already lived through in book 1 seems a bit cheap. Move the story forward.

I thought for sure book 1, Baden, would be my favorite of these hockey players.... Nope I stand corrected!

Stone's brother was on the plane that went down. He was called up to play in his place!

When Stone is trying to step out from his brother's ghost, he meets his best friend and neighbor, Harlow. Hot redhead whose big ass dog wants to take a bite out of him!

Stone, Harlow and the Titans team continue in this book and I can't wait to continue on!

This author brought out the big guns with this series! Every character has gone through something or is dealing with a trauma of sorts, so an emotional read is un understatement.
Stone and Harlow couldn’t be more perfect for eachother. A confident, badass woman who fights her own battles is everything this tortured hero needs.

Stone Dumelin's hockey career has had ups and downs. And now he has a chance to be back in the NHL on the Pittsburgh Titans. But it comes with the knowledge that most of the team including his brother passed away in a plane crash. He’s already had some issues with being compared to his brother and family estrangement, and this new situation makes him feel almost like an imposter or fill-in.

Harlow Austin is a hardworking lawyer who bucks her family's corporate law practice in order to help others and practice the kind of law she is passionate about. She is now the trustee for Stone's brother because she was friends with him. Harlow is tenacious and determined that Stone is going to hear her out about his brother's last wishes and estate.

But Stone is annoyed, angry, resentful, and a bit lost. But Harlow begins to provide a window into his brother and realizes in order to reconcile with who his brother was and deal with his own feelings about their estrangement that Harlow may be the key to helping him. And he’s also realizing just why his brother might have been friends with Harlow in the first place. She is accepting, supportive, sassy, and smart. And she does not give in easily. But Stone has a lot going on. He has been conditioned to question everyone's motivations and not trust easily, and sometimes his reactions and coping mechanisms are not the best.

I got really involved in their story and did not want to put it down. I felt terrible for Stone and all of the what if‘s that plagued him regarding chances lost with his late brother. He has so much to deal with regarding his loss and grief but also rebuilding a career with a brand new team who is also struggling. I loved seeing the layers peel back both on Stone and with what was going on with his brother before he passed away.

This is an emotional, heartfelt, slow burn, enemies-to-friends-to-lovers, late-brother's-best-friend romance that is also about loss, healing, self-worth, and the rebuilding of not only a hockey career but also an entire team. And it’s not an easy journey for Stone. It’s actually not easy for most of the new Titans. I look forward to seeing more of their individual stories and how they deal with loss and the pressures of becoming a new team. I am especially looking forward to Coen's story because his struggles were obvious in this one. And I really loved Gage's attitude and dedication as well.

Stone Dumelin has been playing hockey in the minors after an injury ended his professional career. He doesn’t mind, as long as he can continue to play the game, but the change in status happened at the same time his brother was called up to the majors, leaving Stone feeling disavowed by his family. After most of the Pittsburgh Titans hockey team is killed in a plane crash, including Stone’s younger brother, Stone is called up to fill a spot on the rebuilt team.

Harlow Austin, a lawyer who does a lot of work with low income clients, was friend’s with Stone’s brother and is now the trustee of the estate, charged with making sure the provisions of his will are followed.

These two have a few charged meetings early on. Stone is grieving the loss of his brother, feeling the loss and the estrangement that kept them from speaking much in the last few years of his brother’s life strongly, which makes him more surly than usual. Harlow is also struggling with the loss, but wants to honor her friend and keep his memory alive.

It didn’t take long for me to get caught up in these two, and the depth of emotion these two have to work through had me feeling all the feels. There is a lot going on with all of these new teammates, and I look forward to seeing what is going on inside their heads as this series continues.

She had me at the big hairy beast of a dog. As a former breeder of Bernese, I can say with certainty, Odin was portrayed exactly to character for the breed. ( We had a big guy named Thor, btw, just keeping with the name theme here!) LOVED his role in all of this.

Oh yeah, there is hockey and some romance drama as well. Seriously sunky, knows her mind heroine. Down on everything hero. Watching the two of them explore a friendship in the worst of times---priceless writing right there.

This whole series is going to be heart wrenching because this is the team that is the replacement. The previous Titan team died and now the new guys have to try to live up to that always black cloud hanging over their team. Stone's brother died on that plane. And now his brother's best friend is trying to get him to see the life that Brooks lived and get to know him through her and through Brooks journals.

Lots of heartstring moments. Some unbelievable parenting fails. And the best of all, besides the doggos, is that Harlow and Stone just click. They started off rough, then friends and then lovers. And they called each other on their sh!t and worked it out--like adults.

Great addition to the story line. Lots of teammates still looking for an HEA. Can't wait to read more.

** I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Stone was the second book in the Pittsburgh Titans series by Sawyer Bennett.

I knew going into this book that it would not be lighthearted. It was a tough subject but one that Bennett covered very well. Stone was a member of the Pittsburgh Titans NHL team, a team that was newly formed as a result of a plane cash which tragically killed all but three members of the team. And also tragic, Stone’s brother was one of those lost. Obviously there were many emotions and regrets.

Harlow was the executor of Stone’s brother, Brooks, estate. Brooks had said it would be a difficult task to execute his will with his brother but Harlow had no idea just how difficult. And ultimately it was loaded with tension between Harlow and Stone, both sexual and dislike from both sides.

Bennett outlined the emotions and baggage within the sad and emotional plot. But ultimately she also brought joy and hope. It was a long process but a worthy one. In the end, it was enjoyable and entertaining and continued to set the stage for the rest of the series. Gage is up next and I can’t wait!
