Sex, drugs, alcohol…. I used anything it took to make the pain go away. Was I an addict? Maybe. But more than anything, I was lost…
One stupid mistake landed me in rehab. Some place that’s supposed to make you learn how to cope and handle things better.
Instead, I found myself craving a fix, but getting high in rehab wasn’t easy. Until I found a dark, tall, and sexy nurse who could take away all the pain. I could get high on him alone.
How was I supposed to know the secrets he held? That he was the last person I should use for my next rush?
Didn’t matter. His darkness called to me like a beacon in the night and I was hooked. Once I realized how forbidden he was, I only wanted him more.
Even if there was a chance we may destroy each other in the process. I was willing to risk it.
TRIGGER WARNING Contains triggers, strong language, violence, self-harm, sexual and mental abuse. Reader discretion is advised
When I first read the blurb and saw forbidden love and dark romance, I was all giddy like a schoolgirl being asked to prom, not knowing what to expect. What I did get was a story about trauma, addiction, toxicity, and healing.
Read your trigger warnings; there are several. On my dark scale, it's medium gray.
Wren indulges in drugs and sex to escape her monsters when she closes her eyes. Her back story is horrific, and how her parents handle it is atrocious. She never got the help she deserved as a child, all to avoid a scandal. Now, as an adult, she overdoses, and to hide, her parents send Wren to Rehab in Florida. There is where she meets Ro, her nurse.
Ro has his own horrible back story, and these two are intertwined with each other from their past. Ro riddled with guilt and darkness. Wren doesn't recognize him. But when she does, it's game on.
These two couldn't be more toxic for each other. With that said, both also fit so perfectly with each other. The authors go into great detail about addiction and their back story; I liked the character development and plot. My concern is there is a small amount of reputation. But don't let that discourage you; i's still a great book. Do I still recommend this book? Yes, I do.
This book is heart-wrenching. Completely breath-taking. You won't be able to out it down. You'll feel all the emotions written in it...
Oh, God.
There were moments where I had to hold back my tears so that I could keep reading this book. It really came on heavy towards those last chapters. What else should have I expected after that first chapter? That one told so much of the story. How it all began.
Rohlen and Kane are twin brothers who grew up in the foster system because their parents were junkies. They were in and out of fosters homes until one couple adopted them. Things were not as they expected. After trying to have a child of their own, they finally did. With a turn of events, they un-adopted Ro and Kane.
Through out the years, there is one thing - one person - that has brought out different emotions and accounts from the two brothers: Wren. The daughter of the couple who had adopted them.
Ro and Wren are brought back together as Wren enters treatment into a rehab facility where Rohlen is a nurse. This time together again brings back all the memories and all the crap that Kane made them both go through. Wren and Ro explore what could be between them.
The past has a way of coming back to haunt them.
Despite this, Rohlen and Wren's relationship was beautiful. It's dark; it's taboo. It will grip your heart and squeeze. You'll love every second of it - I did.
Well this book was a dark, twisted, taboo story of perfectness! I devoured it. It follows Wren, a young woman who has had a traumatic past and has turned to drugs as she is sent to rehab by her uncaring parents. She’s meets a nurse there, Ro, who turns her world upside down!
There was so much more to this story than appeared on the surface, I found it so interesting and couldn’t wait to find out all the secrets and things going on!
Nurse Ro.. well, welllll what a man. I was obsessed with him. He was domineering yet sweet and the way he treated Wren with so much care and affection just made me melt.
And I adored Wren! She was so strong and was just trying to fight her demons as best she could. She turned to drugs to numb the pain of what she’s been through and it was heartbreaking to read! But she finally came out on top in the end and got the ending she deserved.
I really recommend this book! It’s dark and taboo s check out the trigger warnings but a really good read!
I absolutely loved this book! It’s not super spicy but the storyline is fantastic. Rohlen won my heart so quickly, I absolutely love him! Wren has years of trauma to battle through when she runs into Rohlen, her adoptive brother who was kicked out at 16 because of what his twin was doing to Wren.
I needed some time to think about my review. This is it your normal love story. However it’s an incredible, thought provoking, tragic and taboo read.
This is also not my normal type of book, was a bit hesitant but so glad I took a chance on Zoey Drake and Katie Rae.
Wren’s past and present are unimaginable, horrific and have led her down a path of destruction which leads to consequence.
Ro’s past is horrible but he is able to mask his present state to everyone while suffering in silence.
There are twists and turns that will have your heart racing, will make you uncomfortable, sad, intrigued and sucked in by Wren and Ro.
These are two of the most toxic, complicated, f’d up, scarred and desperate people I’ve ever read. You will not be able to put the book down because you have to know what happens next. They are Dirty Monsters.
I hit a certain point in the book and sent a message to both Zoey and Katie ....I won’t spoil it but HOLY FREAKIN CRAP.
I highly recommend this book, but there are disturbing situations and events that are unsettling.
I requested an arc and I am providing my honest review.
OHHH MY GOSHH. I have no clue what to expect from this book when I started it as this genre is new to these authors, BUT what I got was a whirlwind of PHENOMENAL words that just kept me turning the pages and wanting to know more of what happened.
The angst that you get from this book will captivate you so hard that you are stuck doing nothing else but reading this book until there is no more.
This is a taboo read and not for the light heart but once you devour into this you quickly realize that the chemisty that is lit between Ro and Wren will steal your heart!
Absolutely loved this book.
It’s without a doubt 5 stars, I’d rate it higher if I could. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #MustRead #RoIsMine #HesBeenClaimed
I haven't read Zoey before, I know she writes small town, contemporary love stories though, and Katie has written some of my favorite sports romances. I didn't know what to expect going into this, but Holy f@ck it surpassed anything I could have imagined!
Dark and dirty, together they have created an incredibly raw and gripping forbidden romance that will leave you breathless. It is not for the faint of heart, there are heavy references of addiction, self harm and other abuse.
The trauma Wren experiences is devastating. Usually that's one of my hard triggers but I was able to see past it due to the context of the storyline. Ro may be one of her monsters, but he's also the only person who can save her.
Ro could get it anytime. 🤤 I absolutely loved this book. The characters were very relatable and I really connected with each of them. Was the story dark? Yes. But I loved every twisted and f*cked up part of it. I’ve never rooted for “siblings” to just do it as much as I did for Ro and Wren. This book just all around felt very real. Real trauma and pain. Real heartbreak and love. 5 stars from me!
One thing I didn't like about this book was the trigger warnings only mentioned SA and MA, however it failed to mention that the SA was when the FMC was a child, which turned my stomach, looking past that though the story line was really good it follows wren as she over comes her monsters and her drug habit, it's enemies to lovers (not the child SA) I loved Wrens character after everything she went through she was such a strong FMC and you really feel for her. It does have a HEA ending, the smut and there was one scene where I was cheering wren on, overall it was a good read 🖤
OMG !!!! This was the best book ever . I don’t even have the right words to express what a phenomenal job both Katie and Zoey did collaborating together to create such a intriguing and addicting love story . Dark , Dirty , Forbidden and man oh man , the off the charts Chemistry between wren and Ro . You could literally feel the steam coming off the pages . Wren has been through so much in her life . Something so horrible , that no child or Adult should ever have to go though .As she gets older her demons only haunt her more , not only when she is awake but also in her dreams . After a accident wren is sent away to rehab . There she comes face to face with Ro . Ro is a nurse at the facility , and their attraction is completely forbidden. Ro has many many hefty secrets of his own . But the immediate connection between these two is insanely hot .I don’t want to give too many details away is this really is a book you need to read yourself , it’s that exceptional. I seriously devoured this book in a little over 4 hours straight . I was hooked from the very beginning and could not stop thinking about it even after I was finished
If you're a fan of Credence you'll love this, even if you didn't like it give this book a try.
This is a dark romance and there are a handful of triggers, defiantly check those before you read this book.
Wren is a young woman addicted to cocaine(and other things) as a way to cope from a childhood abuse that she was never helped with. After overdosing her parents, more concerned about appearances than her well being, sent her away to a Florida rehab center.
Ro is finally in a good place, a nurse at a high paying rehab center in Florida. Surfing becoming his escape from the demons of his past. Everything is good until his ex adoptive sister checks into his job, the same girl that got him and his brother thrown back into the foster system. He wants her out of his life as quickly as possible, he's going to make sure she gets through recovery and out of his life.
This is a story of two broken people trying to either recover from their past or just bury it a little deeper.
I really enjoyed this book, I'm not a dark romance reader but I was rooting for them to find some kind of closure and hopefully find some kind of happiness.
This book was absolutely mind blowing. To say it is dark is somewhat of an understatement. I have not read anything from either of these authors and I know for a certainty that I have been missing out and I know that I will definitely read more from them in the future. What a journey for Ro and Wren who are both broken and damaged in their own way. Both have very traumatic pasts and their demons follow them wherever they venture in life and Wren must deal with her addictions as a result of these traumas. The attraction between Ro and Wren is off the charts and the intensity and passion sets the pages on fire. I could not put this book down as I was so caught up in the story and I kept going till I had it finished. This book deals with a lot including some taboo subjects so be aware of the trigger warnings. I loved reading this book and am looking forward to reading more from these authors. Highly recommend.
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I'm a sucker for a dark romance book! The moment I read this blurb I was so excited to read it! It wasn't as "dark" as other books I've read. But nevertheless it was really good! I'm still new to Zoey Drake and this book introduced me to Katie Rae. These two make the perfect team!
This book contains trigger warnings-addition/abuse.
Wren dealt with some traumatizing abuse as a child. As an adult, she's been running from her monsters ever since. Coke is her best friend. After overdosing she is sent to a rehab down in FL, thanks to her parents. And here she meets Ro. Little does she know, Ro is someone from her past.
Ro is dealing with his own darkness. Once these two meet up they are INTENSE! Their toxic yet hot relationship will make you mad at times but eventually these two start healing themselves and each other.
This book is full of twists, and angst! I absolutely loved it and plan on reading more by each author!
Dirty Monsters is definitely dark romance. I do like most of the book but do read triggers. Katie and Zoey do a remarkable job with story. Wren has tragic past that make her overdose that makes her parent send her to rehab. It is there that she has a reunion with Ro who is a nurse at the rehab center. Ro was her adopted brother and is one of her past demons. But they reconnected and nothing is the same. Their journey is so emotional. It is like two broken half of heart that finally come together but it will definitely be a journey that is up and down until you will want to throw the book. Katie and Zoey definitely put us on a rollercoaster that if you want to get off you couldn’t because you had to find out what was going to happen.
Dirty Monsters is emotional, dark, passion, and raw. It has wonderful characters. And the flow of story is amazing.
“I’m a huge fan of both Zoey and Katie so when I saw they were having a release I was over the top excited. S*x, drugs and alcohol that’s all it took to have my attention. Add the hint of darkness and forbidden romance and I knew it was going to be an epic story and I wasn’t wrong. Can I give it 10 stars please? A book that had me hooked form the very first chapter, lost in the intrigue and addicted to Wren and Ro’s story. Talking about off the charts chemistry and they almost burned out my kindle. They were a perfect disaster and couldn’t love them more. Their connection was beautiful and special… the spice? I devoured this book and if you’re into dark romances this one is a must read, trust me.”
Katie and Zoey are two of my favorite authors so when I found out they were doing a collaboration and it was completely different from what either of them usually write I couldn’t pick the book up fast enough! Dark, forbidden, dirty…I knew all these things from the blurb but what I wasn’t expecting was for Wren’s trauma to get under my skin. I wasn’t prepared for the way she and Ro would go toe to toe in a battle of wills. So many more feelings were brought to life than I expected and in the end I have a new respect for these amazing authors to not only deliver a forbidden romance but to deliver it in a way that made me question the way I look at the world and all of its dirty monsters.
Having read both authors work before I was so happy when i found out that Ms.Rae and Ms.Drake were joining forces! I instantly started looking forward to this book ever since the first teaser i saw for it. I picked it up as soon as i could. I enjoyed this story!
Wren and Ro's journey isn't an easy one. I really liked how their story was different, that I got to get into their minds and dig deeper with them. I enjoyed the fact that it got my attention quickly, that it kept me on my toes, and had me feeling so many things!
With Dirty Monsters, Ms.Rae and Ms.Drake has created such a good and dark read! I hope these two authors join forces again in the future!
*I volunteered to read and review a copy of this book from Books and Moods PR / the author*
Two dark monsters created by another so much worse. One attempting to hide his by redemption working in a rehab centre, the other turned to drugs if only to escape. Circumstances that bring them back together creates this dark, twisted, raw and emotional standalone. Wren and Ro are beautifully written characters whose pain bleeds out onto the pages, once brother and sister but not by blood they now feel a twisted connection their inner monsters crave. This was my first time reading these authors and I don’t think it’ll be the last. The emotion and chemistry is so well written I absolutely fell in love with this story.
I absolutely loved this book! I’ve read Zoey and Katie before and this was definitely different from what they’ve written in the past but not any less amazing. Wren and Ro’s story is unlike any I’ve read before and kept me wanting more the entire time. I liked it because it wasn’t perfect and they both had to fight to get what they wanted in the end.
A fantastic read by Katie and Zoey. This book is darker than any of Katie Rae’s other books. But, it was a great story about two dark souls that found their way back to each other. A must read!!
This book is amazing. It pulled me out of a huge reading slump. It shook me up, broke my heart, and made me fall in love. Reader beware! This book has triggers and you should read at your own risk.
One brothers touch broke her, the other fixed her.
“He’d become my new addiction, and I needed another hit.” This is basically How I feel about the co-writing by Zoey Drake and Katie Rae.
Wren has spent years numbing them pain her adopted brothers left behind. Both are responsible for the path that found her In Rehab on florida. Coming face to face with one of those very monsters.
This book is dark, forbidden and Ro is oh so damn delicious. wren trades one addiction for the next. *whispers* I would gladly go to rehab to spend some time with Nurse Ro… just saying…. Maybe take a swim in the pool or heck yea a dip in the ocean!
This was one intense Dark, twisted, forbidden romance. This was interesting right from the start. It does deal with some intense subjects that may be triggers for some such as abuse and addiction. Wren and Ro are two dark and broken souls who have a past and years later come together when Wren is sent to rehab where Ro happens to work at. Both characters seeking revenge for the past enter into a forbidden relationship.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
Dirty Monsters is dark, depraved, twisted, and forbidden. This book is intense and steamy with an interesting plot that pulled me in right from the start. Wren and Ro and toxic for each other but these two broken souls fit together like they were made for each other. Their love story is dirty and gritty. It is filled with pain and anger, but also passion, chemistry, and an undeniable connection. I really enjoyed this emotional journey.
WOW. This story is heavy and dark and so emotional! I love a forbidden love story and this one was done so well. These two are toxic together 😂 but they also are good for each other at the same time??? Idk. Also RO?!? who is this man?? I LOVE HIM
If you do decide to read this book please read the trigger warnings first! That being said I could not put this book down, it broke my heart and made me root for Wren and Ro the further and further I got into the book. And the end was bittersweet and was much better than expected. 😊
