Don’t be fooled: the super fancy and glamorous clubs at the Atlanta airport are actually dive bars. After a few visits the luster begins to wear off. People start feeling comfortable enough to drop their niceties. Quiet drinkers turn into surly drunks, throwing tantrums at the staff for largely uncontrollable issues. Slowly the layers peel away until the place is laid bare as a weird holding cell for people at the edge of their sanity, driven mad by the inscrutable pressures of a modern lifestyle that treats them like old whores. Keep them in good enough shape to turn a profit. Keep them dependent enough to prevent their escape.

Well, here goes. This is the 57 book I’ve read in 2022 and I can comfortably say it is the best. I don’t even know where to begin in my review. Initially I felt like this was going to be someone complaining about what it’s like to be in customer service, but it was so much more than that. Really he pokes fun at the entire consumer system and the ridiculousness of how it is structured. Just hilarious. Fantastic. Utterly observant.
An overeducated bartender for airport bars in Atlanta writes about the endless number of entitled people he encounters, and not just the customers, either.
Do NOT say "It's 5 o'clock somewhere," at airport bars.
Wow, this story managed to be both fascinating and disturbing at the same time! After a slow start, the novel picked up the pace. It was depressing, dark and just down right funny!
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I selected Sky Dives, but I ended up loving this brilliant work of satire focused on the over-the-top "elite" culture of the airport lounges.
I went back and forth so many times with this one. About the halfway point I was ready to put it down and forget about it and then it started a section that intrigued me and plundered on through to the end. I don't have any problem with the story itself. I was distracted by and annoyed by the writing style and techniques that the author was employing. 3.5
this is not my typical romance read (quite out of my comfort zone) and i went into this completely blind not knowing what to expect. basically, i liked it — it was alright!
first of all, why are all the customers in this so entitled?! “you wouldn’t be joking like that if you knew how much i flew,” umm good for you pal, no wonder mark hull felt the need to write a book to rant about it, if i had to put up with these people i would do the same tbh🤣
it was quite insightful into airport in general — i’m someone who loves to people watch, in airports i always find myself doing this whilst waiting to board my plane! this book is a non-fiction comedy that talks about the dramas in an airport bar. the writing style of this is great, it flowed so effortlessly and would be easy read if you enjoy non-fiction. after working in many (retail) customer service roles myself, i really resonated with the frustrations felt towards customers in this book sometimes! before reading this book i never knew what a dive bar was🤣 so thank you hull for educating me on that!
this book showed how humans are so obsessed with having the best, or pretending to (see the guy offering to buy a diamond tag for his bag that was found on the floor, fake it till you make it hun i guess🤣). it really showcases how class/status is so valued in society! it exhibits the ugliness of high society human behaviour, it’s never enough, always wanting more power, money, respect etc.. — even diamonds members (highest status members) wanted more, having the highest status wasn’t enough.. they fell for a hoax that offered “kryptonium status” that offered unrealistic benefits like throwing anybody they wanted off a plane for whatever reason🤣 they went wild for it! and when they couldn’t get what they want they turned nasty! i really enjoyed the little “diamond interactions”, it’s just so funny how entitled people can be! i loved the quick wit and sarcasm in this book🤣🤣
if i have one take away from this, i’ll stop saying “it’s 5 o’clock somewhere” everytime i have a drink at questionable times hahaha🤣 i didn’t realise it was SO annoying for bartenders and i’m sorry😭🤣
this is classed as a short read, only 188 pages but i did start to lose a bit of interest near the end.. i think it’s because this genre is not my go to. it’s light and funny, although i found the complaining about customers funny it did go on a bit.. if you enjoy non-fiction comedy books (with drama and funny stories of rude customers) you’ll really enjoy this one!
Why do writers pick up a bar or coffee house for writing? This book is quite an explanation for that. People are most interesting topic to observe and which could be a better place then a place full of people who are going through wide range of emotions and situations. The story is narrated by a bartender at a lounge at a busy airport. He shares his experience with people who are privilaged flyers and can free access to lounge. Mark C. Hull recounts his 3 years as a bartender in the elite Sky lounges at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport, capturing the best - but mostly the worst - of human nature with humor and a whole lot of snark. The book is full of sattire. Though at times it becomes rude and hurtful but author's writing is a piece to be appreciated. It shows how sometimes people can be so self absorved that they don't even consider what other people are going through. Sometimes they shout the most when they want to convice you for their lies. There are subtle lessons dropped in here and there. I totally agree and love the way the author shows to deal with anger of people. Everyone has their own struggles - some choose to show it and some choose to have fun with it. Not everything that glitters is gold. The book is a short read of just with 188 pages. It is a page turner. Fun starts with the first chapter itself and is a non-put-down-able book. Humour is best when it is from the day to day circumstances that we deal with and this book proves it. Best homour in two months for 2023. Must try.
This story is about a bartender who works at airport lounge in Atlanta. How he is life there and what are the things have been changed while working there. What are the various encounters he had faced while working at the airport and VIP lounge.
I could say this is a fun book to read. It's basically, observing people who waits at VIP lounge in airport, how they always wanted the comfort, the rich experience, their obsession with these pricy things and all. It's like a have the insights about people and how they need to rich zone while they're waiting for their plane's to take off. And also, with that, we can read about consumer tactics here, how airport gives the luxurious and demanding things and food for their customers for just few hours of waiting their to relax.
This book will show you the how humans behave like cliche, and cringe for diamonds and glitter in the gold, they express their way slef observations about things and also some are like, they do have their own struggles and all. But some may show and some may don't show, some people have the fun of way dealing with it. Everyone has their own of expressing their feelings and thoughts right. There are situations in the story, where author written how to deal with some situations like anger, fight, annoying people who want to create small issue with big. Overall, it's good and short read..
I rarely read non-fiction (almost.. never), but this book surprised me! It was really funny and I had a good time reading it. It’s written from the point of view of an airport bartender and he’s telling stories about the people he encountered while working there. Lots and lots of funny stories that made me laugh so hard. I couldn’t believe the number of stories about people who felt so entitled, I literally wanted to enter the book and smack them.
Wasn’t my favorite I honestly got bored throughout the book when I tried to finish it but if u like satire books go for it this just wasn’t my cup of tea
I liked it, I really did. When I've just started a book I typically judge (in my mind) what rating I'm probably going to give at the end and honestly I started out with a mental rating of 4/5. That's how good the first half was but when there should have been a more mind blowing crescendo toward the end, it pretty much flatlined. So yea, 3/5 it is.
Congratulations to the author Mark Hull for writing a wonderful Story book which will not only keep you hooked till the last page, but also force you towards deep thinking . The concept of the book is interesting, engaging and unique.Mark C. Hull recounts his 3 years as a bartender in the elite Sky lounges at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport, capturing the best - but mostly the worst - of human nature with humor and a whole lot of snark. In the last 13 years I have traveled throughout America, Africa and Europe as a single woman, married, and now with kids. Often my husband and I would fantasize about how nice it would be to have the funds available to enjoy the private lounges, but after reading this I am suddenly much more content to join the general masses! This book had me cringing throughout and laughing even more. Definitely a fun read, especially if you are no stranger to air travel.
The book consists of 188 pages , a unique way of index is shown by the author. I really enjoyed this insightful book. It is so clearly and logically organised as well as being extremely readable. The tales are easy to negotiate and it flows seamlessly. I have no authority to call the book bad. Because I was fascinated by the back cover of the book and it was the first time I got attracted to the name. Moreover, from the quality of the page to the description of the book, the author's choice of language, the specification of the language, the consonance of the language, everything has been shown to be skillful. The author has a good storytelling style. However, it's the ending that was the most satisfying. Such an intriguing and unique storyline. A story full of emotional ups and down. Smooth transition between scenes. The plot and the plot twist were shocking and I liked it a lot. This book got me hooked right from start and you just can't stop reading it unless you have finished it. I would Definitely recommend this book. Its hilarious, fascinating and the storytelling is just incredible and very compelling. It’s such a quick read and I think if you picked it up you would enjoy it!
I recommend this book to anyone who would like to explore and understand more regarding their inner self. Grab the book, it won't let you to get bored at any point. This book is a page turner from beginning to end. Language is simple with a good vocabulary. Author has done a great job.
📖Sky Dives: Inside the Private Lounges at the World’s Busiest Airport 🧑🎓By Mark Hull
This story is very intriguing and made me want to keep on reading. It’s a short book and I read it all in one sitting, definitely enjoyed it. It was impossible to put down!
Book was hilarious. Mark C. Hull recounts his 3 years as a bartender in the elite Sky lounges at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport, capturing the best - but mostly the worst - of human nature with humor and a whole lot of snark.
I’m certain it could’ve happened.
Someone discovers an obscure entry in the diary of aviation pioneer Wilbur Wright. It concerns a curious incident that took place after a test flight over Huffman Prairie, Ohio, October 4th, 1905. The day was fair and bright. No sign of trouble. His creaky little glider was coasting through the sky, piloted by his brother Orville, who had been up there for an improbable twenty minutes. When the primitive plane finally drifted to a dusty landing in the barren hayfield Wilbur ran over to meet his brother. As Orville pulled himself from the collapsed aircraft, Wilbur could tell that something was wrong. His brother’s eyes were empty and his mood was irritable. Wilbur grabbed him by the shoulders and shook him. “What’s the matter?” he asked.
I learned a lot from this book. I think it will teach the readers a few things like it did to me as I went on reading. I was informed about a lot of stuff as to which I didn’t know before, I think my favourite scene was the “So by that rationale you work for Adidas?" and he points at her running tee. That scene has me laughing out loud at the next words he says.
About THE AUTHOR Mark C. Hull was born and raised in Long Island, New York and is a graduate of Emory University.

In Sky Dives, the author Mark C. Hull recounts his 3 years as a bartender in the elite Sky lounges at the Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport, capturing the best, the unusual, and the funniest stories about the customers in a nice blend of some dark humor and sarcasm.
Sky Dives takes a look at the super fancy sky lounges at the Atlanta airport but it could be the story of any airport lounge anywhere. It takes a look at the whacky side of the commuters or human nature itself. Simply put, Sky Dives is a collection of anecdotes about the people you find in bars in airports.
The story introduces us to several comical and weird characters. From platinum club members throwing their weight around, to people talking loudly on the phone to commuters demanding preferential treatment to drunks, this book is full of funny, weird, and wacky incidents that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you keep reading till the end. The book also takes a look at some weird Airport regulations that add to the hilarity. I especially loved the stories with oatmeal, the loud commuter, and liquor-selling regulations.
The book manages to take a look at the lighter side of things while poking fun at some serious issues like rude customers, class bias, the hypocrisy of the elites, and the idiocy of airport regulations, all penned with some biting sarcasm and dark humour. The writer has a writing style that is both unique and entertaining.
Overall, Sky Dives is a unique and entertaining book with lots of fun and humor in different shades. If you enjoy nonfiction and looking to read something fun, you will enjoy this book.
Sky Dives by Mark C. Hull is a captivating and humorous look into the world of airport lounges. Hull's writing style is refreshing, and his use of dark humor and sarcasm adds a unique twist to the anecdotes shared in this book.
The author does an exceptional job of capturing the quirky and bizarre personalities that frequent these lounges, from entitled platinum members to loud and obnoxious commuters. The stories are relatable, and readers will find themselves nodding along in agreement or shaking their heads in disbelief at the antics of the individuals mentioned.
One of the standout features of this book is Hull's ability to shed light on serious issues such as class bias and rude customer behavior while still keeping the tone light-hearted and humorous. His writing strikes a perfect balance between entertaining and thought-provoking, making it a must-read for anyone looking for a refreshing take on nonfiction.
The book also provides an inside look into the strange and often ridiculous regulations that exist within airport lounges, adding another layer of humor to an already entertaining read. The oatmeal story, in particular, will have readers chuckling long after they finish the book.
Overall, Sky Dives is a captivating and witty read that will appeal to anyone looking for an entertaining and unique take on nonfiction. Hull's writing is top-notch, and his ability to find humor in even the most mundane situations makes this book a standout in its genre. Highly recommended!
“I have a sneaking suspicion that the invention of air travel also invented people having tantrums about it”
Non fiction, autobiographical Satirical, sarcastic, honest and snarky; this book had me laughing from page one and cringing along, relating to the narrator’s woes.
Written from the perspective of an airline club bar tender, readers are introduced to very comical characters, different “types” of club members, their stereotypes, mannerisms and the drinking cliches that come out of their mouths. I really felt like I had already met a version of every single person he described. The author had me nodding along.
When you throw air travel, jet lag, different time zones altogether and add in a membership caste system, and alcohol, you’ll get a lovely assortment of witty chaos and enough personality quirks to fill a book.
“One day you glance around and realize the entire place is a weird holding cell for people at the edge of their sanity, driven mad by the inscrutable pressures of a modern lifestyle..” Along with the hilarity that comes from the club members, we get a look at the shenanigans of Airport employment and regulations too. This book gave me many laughs and reminded me that there’s always gonna be that *one person* in every crowd that just needs their own spotlight, and bartenders have the joy of serving all of them at the same bar.
Tip your bartenders folks! And remember- it’s 5 O’clock somewhere 😏

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport also known as Atlanta Hartsfield–Jackson International Airport, Atlanta Airport, Hartsfield, Hartsfield–Jackson and, formerly, as the Atlanta Municipal Airport, is the primary international airport serving Atlanta, Georgia, United States. The airport is located 10 mi (16 km) south of the Downtown Atlanta district. It is named after former Atlanta mayors William B. Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson.ATL covers 4,700 acres (1,900 ha) of land and has five parallel runways.Hartsfield-Jackson has been the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998.
Sky Dives is written by Mark Hull who worked as Bartender in the busiest airport in the world. In this non-fiction book, he tried to pen down his experiences with different kinds of people who he observed thoroughly in his work life.
Review:- It's a very enjoyable and captivating book with a fresh concept especially for those who like to learn more about other people and so more about themselves. The book is an intense read that covered most of the subjects one must face as a worker who came across thousands of people with different mindsets and attitudes at Airport Lounges. The book makes you chuckle at some point while at the other moment you'll feel amazed that’s what makes the book a roller coaster read.
The book is written very well. The narration of the book is lucid and well-explained. I absolutely admire author’s hard work on this book and recommend it too.
🪂 SKY DIVES: Inside the Private Lounges at the world's Busiest Airport 🪂 By Mark Hull
🖋️When you pick up a book by someone you’ve never heard of and end up finishing it all in one go, you know you’ve found a winner. This book is like that to me.
🖋️ This is the second book in the series. What this story is about is based on a tantrum made between a guy who works at a airport and a traveller who has come to travel there. Every airport has a lounge. It is a fact that we all know that traveling in airplane is not something common man can do.
🖋️These characters are Wilbur and Orville who are unrelated to these matter and are fighting in that way. I don't want to spoil more, I want you to buy the book to read it for yourself.
🖋️Even though I just finished reading this book in one sitting. This will be a tough one to review, because it just is quite a work of art for me, and there are a couple reasons why. For specific reasons, I am choosing to give this one a five star rating.
🖋️Because I did feel as engaged in the second half. While I really loved the way the book opened up in the first half and the second half picked up a great narrative thread and fell into a pattern of anecdotes with great notions. I admire how reflective and good his writing is (I wish I had more of those qualities!). This is definitely the kind of book that I can see the new unique topic eating up, I’m just not quite in that demographic haha.
This book was one of the most interesting reads I’ve read In all of 2022. I really enjoyed it! 𝐒𝐤𝐲 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 is an hilarious book, I was laughing out loud at some of the things he said. The people he meets along the way and the things said honestly shocked me.

I would Definitely recommend this book!! Its hilarious, fascinating and the storytelling is just incredible and very compelling. It’s such a quick read and I think if you picked it up you would enjoy it!
We all are very much familiar to the popular line,"The first impression is the last impression"- the front page. It gives me the true feelings of the line."Skydives" by Mark Hull is an insightful and captivating book that takes readers on an exhilarating journey throughout the book.Sky Dives takes a look at the super fancy sky lounges at the Atlanta airport but it could be the story of any airport lounge anywhere. It takes a look at the whacky side of the commuters or human nature itself. Simply put, Sky Dives is a collection of anecdotes about the people you find in bars in airports. The bartended has shared all his daily experience of meeting many people who come there from rich community. Each chapter is a unique experience. The book is a non-fiction comedy hence it was very engaging.Sky Dives, a book filled with suspense, deception, and thrill, is an impactful read that will leave readers in awe. The intense twists and turns, slow-building mystery, and thought-provoking dilemmas, subtly infused in the mesmerizing prose, make for a powerful read that is sure to change the game for many. If you enjoy drama-filled stories about rude customers, this book is definitely for you!The author's smooth writing style really impressed me a lot. I am recommending everyone to read the book for one time .
I was hesitant to pick up this book since it's not my typical genre, but I was pleasantly surprised by the humorous and relatable stories that Mark Hull shares about his experiences working in an airport bar.
The customers in this book are something else - entitled and demanding, they provide endless entertainment with their outrageous requests and complaints. It's fascinating to see the lengths some people will go to assert their perceived status and power, even in a simple airport bar.
Hull's writing style is engaging and conversational, making it an easy and enjoyable read. I appreciated the insider's look at airport culture and the ways in which employees have to navigate difficult customers and situations.
One of the things I enjoyed most about this book was the way it highlighted the absurdity of societal hierarchies and the way people cling to status symbols. The "diamond interactions" were especially hilarious, and it was entertaining to see how even the highest-status members were willing to fall for a ridiculous hoax.
Overall, it is a quick and entertaining read, perfect for anyone who enjoys humor, customer service stories, or a peek behind the scenes of airport life. While I did lose some interest towards the end, I would definitely recommend this book to fans of non-fiction comedy.
From the viewpoint of a bartender working at the Atlanta Airport lounge, the book is a collection of true-life anecdotes. The author recounts the occurrences that occurred in and around the airport lounge, as well as the stories of the passengers arriving to fly.
The author said that shy drinkers become grumpy inebriates who lash out at staff members over essentially unavoidable circumstances. A strange holding cell for those on the verge of insanity who have been driven crazy by the mysterious strains of a modern lifestyle that treats them like old whores is revealed when the layers of the building slowly peel away.
You'll definitely laugh after finishing this brief and easy book! But more than that, it demonstrates how social class can influence behaviour; the elite's attitude towards those in public-facing professions and their sense of entitlement are both abhorrent. He did a perfect job of handling it in this book.
I enjoyed every bit of this amazing book and definitely recommend it to all readers.
One of the book's strongest points is the author's aptitude for clearly expressing complex ideas. The author breaks down the problem into its constituent elements and then provides simple explanations. By adding personal anecdotes and tales from the author's own experiences in addition to technical facts, the author provides readers with a more human perspective.
An overeducated bartender for airport bars in Atlanta writes about the endless number of entitled people he encounters, and not just the customers, either. After an initially slow start, the author picks up the pace. It was depressing, dark and really funny from the way he describes different customers and people he has encountered. This book is a non-fiction comedy that talks about the dramas in an airport bar. The writing style of this is great, it flowed so effortlessly and would be easy read if you enjoy non-fiction.The book is a short read of just with 188 pages. It is a page turner. Humour is best when it is from the day to day circumstances that we deal with and this book proves it. I found myself getting caught up in the stories and wanting to find out what the next chapter would be about. Funny and entertaining with sharp-wit, this is definitely a good choice if you love a good storytime. It is the type of book you would like to read for getting out if a reading slump. The book is really quirky and witty and really relatable for the people who travel frequently. The words are engaging and informative. The author discusses about the world of airport lounges- both the positive and the negative aspects of its benefits and the cons of exclusivity. Light hearted book and really captivating for those who are interested in travel, aviation and hospitality.
Sky Dives: Inside the Private Lounges at the World’s Busiest Airport . . . Written by Mark Hull. This book is really different story is totally different , i have never see or read this type of book. The book is about the lounge and the tantrums thrown by the passengers on the staff members or we can say crew members. How they behave irrationally. Some times its become uncontrollable issues. But here author experiences a variety of their positive and negative aspects. I just couldn't get enough of these characters. I was so sad when this book was over because i did not want it to end. Cover of the book is also very interesting. I really loved it. It’s really grab your attention like all the details shown in the cover makes you think what this book is about. Author has explained way more unimaginable points in the book and being a versatile one, I noticed that the work proposed by the author, is worth efforts she made in to narrate the tale with rich in class narration. Story is full of twist and turn . This book is very interesting. Characters are well plotted. unexpected story. I appreciate this book and i appreciate this kind of writing. Guys you will definitely enjoy the book for sure . simple and lucid language , easy read . Story is described . Story will hold you till the end . Writting style is amazing

Not all glitters are Gold, this book does justice to this saying! While we are living in a world wherein people are bragging about their lifestyle and privileges. One of those is indeed a lounge access to the rich people. And who can be better person to share the insights than a person working their and serving as a bartender.
The book has been written by Hull who has worked as bartender at the busiest airports Atlanta. He has breakdown his experience in the crisp and anecdotal form which becomes more resonating for the reader to the go through with. While the world is not perfect and everyone has their own flaws to deal with, the book gives weightage to this and made this a Joyous read indeed.
The book has been written in a crisp yet cohesive manner. The book is a light read which is written in a lucid language with flowy narration. I loved reading this book and would recommend this to someone who is looking something different to read.
Mark C. Hull's, "Sky Dives" is a humorous and eye-opening exploration of the dive bars hidden beneath the facade of luxurious clubs in Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport. Hull takes the reader on a rollercoaster ride through the various lounges, revealing the gritty and raw side of the airport's most exclusive spaces.
Hull's writing style is engaging and witty, and he has an excellent eye for detail, creating vivid and memorable descriptions of the customers and their behaviors. The book is an entertaining and thought-provoking reflection on the pressures of modern life and the ways in which people cope with them, often turning to alcohol as a means of escape.
One of the strengths of the book is the way in which Hull humanizes the customers, allowing the reader to see beyond their sometimes unpleasant behaviors and into their vulnerabilities and struggles. While some of the scenes may be unsettling or uncomfortable, they are never judgemental or exploitative.
Overall, Sky Dives is an entertaining and insightful read that provides a unique perspective on the underbelly of airport culture. Whether you're a frequent traveler or simply curious about the hidden side of luxury, this book is well worth a read.
Sky Dives: Inside the Private Lounges at the World’s Busiest Airport by Mark Hull The author’s vivid descriptions of the people and their behaviors paint a picture of a world that is far from glamorous.
Hull’s ability to capture the essence of the airport lounges is commendable. He takes readers on a journey through the layers of what appears to be a luxurious and sophisticated space, but slowly, the illusion fades away. Instead, we are shown the darker side of what happens when people are pushed to their limits. It is a space where the pressures of modern life take a toll, and people’s frustrations and grievances boil over.
The fluency and flow of style and viscosity of material, the narrative, is such that one can't afford the luxury of stopping or having a breathing space while going through it. Even at the chapter-ends, one is tempted to hurry on: the journey or reading is so enchanting and thrilling, unexpectedly, so to say!
The book is structured and narrated very well with a lucid and easy language to understand. Writing style is very beautiful and intriguing. Cover and Title are also very beautiful and fascinating. I liked reading this book and highly recommend it to all
