One dystopian future. Three blood-soaked, action-packed, breast-bouncing exploitative novels.
Electro-Satan Comes to Wolfe City A group of teens head out for Fukushima Biotech's yearly summer camp. What should be a week of fun in the sun far from the sprawl of the City, turns into something deadly. Electro-Satan has come to Wolfe City with a crew of modified hillbillies intent on wreaking havoc on the sleepy town.
Vampire Nuns Behind Bars A group of nuns is convicted of murder and sentenced to hard time at the Corman District Penitentiary. With the help of an undercover ally, an escape plan is in the works. But the deeds of a mad scientist and a sadistic warden won’t make things easy. And the vampire problem doesn’t help.
The Sons of Thunder When Sawyer Declan, more machine than man, is offered an opportunity to go after the terrorist that took his former life away, he heads into the wastelands surrounding the city, hunting a sadistic army of cultists bent on equality or death, all under the direction of their Messiah. A showdown for the ages is in store for The Sons of Thunder, because Sawyer is bringing hell to their doorstep.

In Cerberus Exploitation: A Grindhouse Triple Feature, Patrick C. Harrison III, Mike Ennenbach, and Chris Miller nail the storytelling aesthetic of grindhouse exploitation cinema with a Troma flair. It's particularly appropriate that I mention Troma since this book begins with an introduction provided by none other than Lloyd Kaufman. Like proper triple-feature experiences, the book contains trailers, film credits (with dream casting choices from the authors), and everything a fan could hope for...aside from the popcorn. Electro-Satan Comes To Wolfe City introduces us to a group of kids hoping to enjoy a summer camping trip, only to have everything disrupted by mutant hillbillies. Ennenbach's contribution to this collection gets the reader/listener's attention almost immediately with a musical performance that should have anyone in stitches. From there, it's a barrage of violence, humor, and all the splattery goodness fans of the genre adore. Patrick C Harrison III then hits us with his twisted take on the women in prison genre with Vampire Nuns Behind Bars. Replete with lesbianism, sadism/torture, scientific experimentation, rebel uprisings/prison riots, and--of course--vampires. Terrible things are taking place at this women's prison, where political dissidents and troublemakers--and a handful of nuns--are swept under the rug and channeled into one of two secret chambers where horrors await. When a prison break's attempted, the balancing act that kept the facility functional gets disrupted hugely, and the halls and cell blocks become a slaughterhouse. And finally, we arrive at Chris Miller's Sons of Thunder, focused on a military recovery mission in the dystopian Hellscape outside of the "safely" bubbled cities owned and operated by corporations. Escape From New York and Assault on Precinct 13 come together, producing a malformed and grim, action-packed adventure. Mutants, terrorists, and doomsday cultists stand in the way of an elite team and one man bent on revenge at any cost. There's no point in trying to describe the escapades these authors have assembled. It's something one just has to experience for themself...and I recommend doing so as soon as possible. Daniel Caravetta's narration is spot-on, capturing the lunacy and low-budget mayhem of grindhouse cinema in a way only a fan of the films could manage.
I received an ARC for an honest review and I hope you are ready for some of the best short stories I have ever read!
Tl;Dr : Buy this book immediately.
Electro-Satan by Mike Ennenbach
This first story is so much gotdamn fun! Picture a campy 80s dystopian camp counselor love story with mutants. That’s it. That’s the review.
I’m kidding. I have too much to say about this one. Electro-Satan has EVERYTHING and when I say EVERYTHING, I mean it. Gore, evil scientists, dumb horny teens with shitty adult supervision, blood, guts, HORMONES, obsessive infatuation, secrets, lies, family, dick guns, and my favorite dick ropes.
Teenagers go off to camp as counselors only to find that the city is on lockdown and bad shit starts happening. Mutants are known to be roaming free and it is up to the lab scientists to hunt them down.
I love Easter eggs in novels. I love when the author pays homage to those before him and Mike does that so gracefully and seamlessly. I can’t tell you what book, but it is the ONLY book I reread every year. Also, the sneaky twists Mike includes blew me away. This is my first by Mike, but certainly not my last.
If this is the first story, Jesus Christ.
5/5 dick guns.
Vampire Nuns Behind Bars by Patrick C Harrison III
I’m going to give you a list of what is in this second novella and try to tell me you do not want to pick this up immediately. Ready? Sassy, blood hungry vampires, shady prison and staff, f/f sex scene, forbidden love, torture rack, Dr. like Mengele, TIT CHAINS!
Do I have your attention? Amazing, let’s move on. Like Mike, this is my first read by Patrick and IT WILL NOT BE MY LAST, mark my words. This was gritty, savage, face paced as fuck (I don’t think there are many scenes that something insane is not happening), funny, and did I mention TIT CHAINS!?
Also, like Mike, there is a few fun Easter eggs including homage to a country singer. (I will never get enough of the Easter eggs, people. Ever.)
5/5 thumpers
The Sons of Thunder by Chris Miller
Guys, this was so action packed! I mean, the changing of settings and characters were so gotdamn seamless. Chris has a habit of pulling in the reader with such a iron fist, I was through his story much faster than I wanted to be. Sawyer Declan will always be my favorite character. Sawyer reminds me of the main character of 10-35 First National Bank. These characters hurt and I mean, they rip your heart out with their emotions. The ending… Jesus Christ in a side cart holding a cheese sandwich. I may never recover.
And how Chris ties it all together is phenomenal but let me tell you, if there isn’t a sequel to this world, I’m rioting!
10/5 (that’s not an error)

This collection… I haven’t read anything like it. I had no idea I liked exploitation stories but now I have to find more. I didn’t want to leave this world, it was horrific for the characters but there was hope, even in all the darkness. If you sleep on this book, you should be ashamed. This knocked a Jon Athan book out of my Top Ten for the year. JON ATHAN!
Three Grindhouse-style stories set in the same dystopian future world as only Cerberus can bring it … brace yourself.
The Grindhouse style rarely translates as well in the written word as it does on the screen, but Cerberus has nailed it. This is in no small part due to the extraordinary presentation: the Forward by Lloyd Kaufman, the preview trailers, promotional blurbs, cinematic set up, and actual cast and crew credits. It puts one in a cinema frame of mind, inspiring the mind to embrace the disturbing visuals to come.
And disturbing is the operative word. These stories are pure Grindhouse entertainment. Pro-tip: read them in order to get the full effect of how they are connected. Yes, not only are these stories set in the same dystopia, they have subtle tie-ins that create a fun continuity.
But remember: this is Grindhouse Exploitation, not for the squeamish or easily offended. That being said, there’s more to these stories than extreme and graphic content. They’re good stories.
“Electro-Satan Comes to Wolfe City” is actually a complex story with homage to numerous classic horror themes, yet it flows really well, has entirely too much dark humor for me to not go to hell for laughing, and is upsettingly evocative for something so dark and gory.
“Vampire Nuns Behind Bars” is, at its heart, a story about systemic corruption, loyalty, and how we face adversity. Of course, it is also about nuns in prison and a mad scientist and vampires … so …
“The Sons of Thunder” is the action movie of the trio, full of badasses and sickos and guns and things that go boom. But, true to the author, it’s also about people and choices, as a good action story is.
There is only one thing I did not like about this book: the cover. Not my cup of tea. I get that it is representative of Grindhouse and blah blah blah, but I think it doesn’t do the stories justice. Just me. Otherwise, yeah, read this entertaining collection of some of the best Grindhouse ever.
What do you get when three brilliant minds mash, sci-fi, dark humour and extreme horror together? this fantastic collection.
Daniel does a great job with the narration I highly recommend the audio version for the full grindhouse effect. A completely original concept, that would appeal to a wide audience 5stars
