I really enjoy this author's work. He always writes his MCs as very competent. So much so it amazes everyone else but gives him the IDGAF (I don't give a F**k) attitude about society and nobles. He also has the same attitude towards women. Many women throw themselves at the MC and he is always like "whatever", especially when the attention comes from out of nowhere. The one thing that this author does that is a little different is that he doesn't have the MC get with all the women that want him. Sometimes he sets up a situation where a woman or a couple of women are interested but it just doesn't work out.

The MC in this on is an orphan. He is bigger than the other kids but he is bullied by the nobles. A benefactor comes to him and offers him training that he needs to work for. He doesn't tell the MC exactly what all the training is for but what other choice does he have? He gets trained on weapons, archery, apothecary, tracking, etc. He pretty much becomes an expert. We find out he has magical abilities but he doesn't want to get trained in that and he doesn't believe it. People with magical abilities are given noble titles and need to go get training. The MC is against this as he doesn't want to be told what to do. He just wants to be left alone to live his life. His mentor gets a hold of him after he is settled into a home in the forest and wants him to investigate people going missing. The rest of the book is him dealing with that situation. If you liked this author's previous works, you will probably like this one.

same bad character traits

I always like the premise for these, but for some reason the author gives the MC unreasonable anger issues that make no sense. Constant hostility completely out of nowhere, even towards companions. It makes it hard to keep reading when the MC is just an ass to anyone and everyone for no reason. Especially nobility, the author seems to have a grudge cause every book nobility is instantly vilified and treated terribly even with no discernable justification. Hard to empathize with MC.

Great start to a potential series !

Hopefully this is just the beginning. There is so much more to be expanded upon with this starting group. I look forward to more books in the future.

So this is a reboot of Giseria Chronicles.

The overpowered main character that dislikes nobles. The denial of being a mage while bonding with companions and gaining magic. Even the base of blacksmithing and herbalism as a skill set. This is a quick and dirty restart. Two stars for a complete lack of originality.

Some of the worst writing I've come across ... not the worst, thus 2 stars.

A totally unlikeable MC mixed with some of the worst dialogue and a lazy-stupid plot (can it really be called a plot?)

The MC is way overpowered, can do anything and happens to be 6'7" and is extremely pretentious and arrogant to the point of annoyance. All this from a supposed bullied orphaned.

All the females fall in love with the MC for no apparent reason and all the men are murdered regardless of their circumstance. Pity any poor guards that happen to be doing their duty, but if it has a vagina, it's going to be a voluptuous beauty who needs rescuing who will then fall in love and have/want sex.

Very-very disappointed that I picked this up. It should be known that I only made it half way before DNF'd.

Hey wonderful flowing story

The story right from the very first sentence flows on and on into itself and as it slowly builds upon itself it becomes more fascinating. The world building is a little bit beginning but the title of the book gives a clue. There's lots of good character development and the world slowly evolves and I am transported into the world of this book. I really enjoyed reading about the characters and they had parts under their humorous parts that were horrific and drama and Great adventure. I thought the story flowed well together and it painted a picture in my mind's eye which for me makes for a great story. It has a little bit of spiciness in it but it does not detract away from the story but adds to it. Just when I kept turning the pages over and over wanted to keep on reading and I did read it in one sitting I came to the end and realized that was it I hope there's more would really like to hear more adventures that he and his ladies go on.

Compelling and exciting

I found your book very exciting and even though some have said that it is similar to other books you have written that's not the point this book was still very good and the characters were relatable. I really enjoyed this book and anyone who likes I really enjoyed this book and anyone who likes hear him stories and heroes who go after the bad guys you just can't go wrong with this book heram stories and heroes who go after the bad guys you just can't go wrong with this book. I think the author has done a good job in creating the story you can get yourself immersed in. Speaking to the author if he actually reads this review I want to commend him for his good works and hope that he will write a sequel to this novel.

While I appreciate a competent, no-nonsense MC, it's a fine line to an OP, aloof one. That line is crossed here.

It's not a critical failing, as the guy's years of training (and undisclosed special background) set him up well to kick a lot of ass. I can also understand him not trusting people, but he could be a bit less dismissive of people trying to work with him, or who appreciate him helping them. That said, none of that will stop me from checking out a book 2 should it arrive.

A nice read.

The beginning of a new series is always an adventure and I wasn’t disappointed with the ride. It’s a bit formulaic but you definitely know early on who the good guys are and who the bad guys are. The MC does not mind getting his hands dirty and he’s willing to do what it takes to protect the innocent. Looking forward to the second book in the series.

I enjoyed this book

This is one of those books that you can't put down once you start. One of the few that the story flowed really well. I would say it was evenly balanced and was easy to read. It will be interesting if the author continues this book and makes a series out of it.
Well done. 5*****

Odd but not bad

This book has an ok story line but feels like its going from point a to point b and is not overall descriptive. Its weird and unrealistic how 90% of the men except the main character are the bad guys and how just about every women wants to sleep with the main character.

A very good read

Stayed up till 3:30am to finish. The MC is rather antisocial, but has good character. He's unwilling to accept full responsibility for the powers he has, yet the responsiblity he does take on is awesome and effective. All said it was a fun read and l look forward to the next installment.

Honestly regeret putting this one off.

It's a lot of themes and things that you might recognize from other Xander Jade stories. None of it felt out of place or tired. In fact, a lot of it fit better than they did in the original pathway series.

Bravo! A sign of an excelent writer is improvement. I look forward to reading many more Xander Jade stories to come.

Very interesting

At first, I didn't know if i would like this book. The story was good, but all the interactions with the first couple of female characters were so weird and out of left field. No spoilers, but I understand why for plot purposes, and maybe they'll come back later in the series. Either way, the book ended fantastic, and I will continue the series.

Another Excellent Read

I have enjoyed each and every one of Xander's books. An excellent writer, but would really like the books to be longer. It seems that as soon as I have started to read his latest book I am finished and wanting more.

Good start....

Typical starting for the author, and a quick read. Somewhat shorter than his other works, but it will be interesting to see where he takes this series. Somewhat shaky on the initial premise, however lots of room to make this a good trilogy. Keep it up.

Not the usual harem tale

This book actually has a plot, and a pretty damn good one too. Yes there is the "non-traditional" relationship, and the elements of lust. But without over whelming graphic detail. A pretty damn good read

Probably Jade's best work

You can see the improvement in Xander Jade's work. The story flows smoothly.

Having said that, the author needs to do a better job differentiation the love interests.

Writing needs improvement

I better understand what my English teacher meant by "show, don't tell" after reading this, because the author tells us what is happening instead of showing us.

Couldn't finish it.

I could only make it half way. This seems like it was written for middle schoolers. Everything was so flat and jumped around. To many holes with zero explanation. Don't waste your time with this one.

Remove the harem and all you're left with is a poorly written fantasy story. But at least the MC is no simp, and he's no cuck. I loved when he was telling his girls what for, although that whole scene was a bit confusing.
