In Berlin during the Second World War, a pair of white mice are released from their medical laboratory and become the beloved pets of ten-year-old Jewish boy, David Baum. He names them after his twin cousins, Benny and Bobby. But these are frightening times. David's life is in peril, and soon the mice are in danger too, for they live at the centre of Adolf Hitler's evil empire and must confront it head on. An unequal fight, to be sure. And yet, you should never underestimate the feats that even tiny creatures such as Benny and Bobby can pull off ... or the trouble they can cause for a dastardly enemy.
This is a story that makes you think quite hard about all that the Jewish people went through in the second world war. Quite a book to read as all the horror unfolds at the moment in Ukraine. War is never the answer. This book however is a lighter read for children, focusing on the bravery of two little mice who unwittingly undermine the regime they find themselves living in. A sweet story based in a horrific time, but it will not scare the kids, just help them to understand the atrocities with a gentle narrative that keeps them page-turning.
A fantastic book about how the smallest creature can change the world. Set in WW2 and with a range of interesting characters that keep you reading - read more on https://simplyhonestreviews.webador.c...
This is such a great book, a real gem. Kids will love to read this. It is educational and very sharp. Gives you a lump in the throat. What a time WW2 was and what sufferings were bestowed upon those poor people. Horrible time but light enough to appeal to kids.
This is a fantastic book for younger readers. They will learn a little something about WW2 without even realising it. The story is so enthralling and will draw them in. The mice are adorable and the author brings everything to life without compromise but with a simpleness that makes it easy to read. This book is an interesting history lesson wrapped up in a brilliant story.
