When dealing with the fey folk, victory today might present unforeseen costs tomorrow.
Abandoned at the altar, Chelsea Hewitt swore she’d never don another wedding dress. No one could be worth the PTSD. Then Chelsea’s best friend Jen asks Chelsea to be her bridesmaid. The catch? Silly family tradition dictates Jen’s attendant dress identically to her. Supposedly, it confuses evil faeries bent on stealing brides. Fun, right?
Sure, until a real evil faerie turns up looking to get hitched. Now Chelsea must match wits against the ethereally beautiful Winter Queen to protect both her best friend and her own freedom.
If you're into fairytales and folk lore, you will love this!
Chelsea is being a decoy bride for her very best friend Jen! It's all superstitious nonsense, but she plays along... until a beautiful Icy fae woman turns up, captures her and whisks her away into the land of Fae! Specifically the Winter Queens realm, where a war is happening with the realm of Spring!
It's fast-paced and action-packed. Chelsea has gumption and loyalty, and isn't afraid to step up for her friend, and also others in this new world.
I found it fascinating and really look forward to future installments and seeing how Chelsea handles things going forward with Faes, Magics, and Seasonal issues, and an oddly alluring Queen that stirs up desire in her.

This story claimed my attention, and I'll be impatiently waiting for more. The cadence was lovely, and the twists of the story managed to strike a balance of being both surprising, yet plausible within the world. Speaking of the world, Collins places as much attention on the context and surroundings of the characters as she creates, painting a fantastical world that feels like it could be on the other side of the next door you walk through.
I don’t have much to complain about with this book. It’s a quick read, but not for lack of content. Chelsea, who swore to never wear a wedding dress again after being left at the altar, breaks that vow… to wear a dress that matches her best friend’s on HER wedding day. A family tradition, apparently, to confuse any spirits who may wish to steal the bride away. In short… it works. Chelsea is stolen instead of her friend. Meanwhile, the winter and spring courts in the Fae Realm are warring for control. I’ve seen some low star reviews, but I’m not sure why. Sure, there are some cheesy parts, and some of the decisions the characters make are seemingly random at times, but overall the book isn’t bad at all. I assumed this book would be kind of like a Hades and Persephone retelling, but it was not. The pace of the book changes, from a fast paced beginning to a fast paced ending, separated by a slow paced middle. During the action, I was unable to put the book down.
This is a charming, suspenseful page-turning F/F paranormal fantasy romance filled with plot twists. Sometimes the decoy is the real love, but it takes time to figure it out. Although the title is "Prisoner to Spring", it could easily be called "Captive to Love" as a woman traumatized by love discovers what love truly can be The writing, world building, and setting are exquisite. I hope since Chelsea will stay for a year that there will be four books.
I highly recommend this book to those looking for an adventurous, paranormal FF novel with a great deal of heart. I've already purchased the next book in the series and look forward to any others that come out.
This one's a keeper!.

Started off quick...but Jen was for sure annoying! But really liked the world building and somewhat interested in seeing where the Winter Queen and mortal love goes...
