From the moment she stumbled, falling into my arms, she was mine. Despite the pressure from her father's funeral and the heat I was under for the D'Angelo Syndicate, I lived by a code. My ethics could not be compromised. Ever. My code protected me like a vice, a haven for a sinner like me.
My orders were to lay low, avoid drawing the attention of authorities after the war we’d had with our greatest rival. With free time on my hands, I couldn't help but become intrigued by the brown eyed bombshell and her ability to get herself into a bind. At first, it was fun to protect her. A kitchen accident here, catching her from a small trip there. It was cute. Innocent.
Until it wasn't.
My loyalty to the code waivered, opening old wounds I'd tried hard to forget. Deep in a battle with my own past, I found trouble heading for Eliza's future. Protecting her became my obsession, forgoing the code and the Syndicate.
With her life on the line, I vowed to protect her.
With my life on the line, I vowed to love her the way she was meant to be loved.
I might be the guy who knows things. The Fixer. But I don't know if I can fix myself.
Ellie Isaacson has been an avid reader her whole life, but a couple years ago she had a dream that she just couldn't forget. She cultivated that dream and began writing, which became a dream of a different sort. Ellie is thrilled to be able to share her passion with her readers. As an accountant and an author, she slings numbers by day and words by night. She's also a wife and a mother of two amazing boys and one crazy hellion pup.
*Thank you to the author for an eARC of this title.*
This was another great entry to the Underworld Kings series. I enjoyed myself for most of it. It was a pretty slow of a story but it had almost this friends to lovers vibe going that I really enjoyed.
Our heroine loses her father in the beginning of the novel and our hero becomes a comfort and a friend to her and it grows from there. There is also some strings to the Underworld and the Mafia going in the background as well. Which is to be expected.
It was a quick read and a great edition to the series.
Unusual encounter leading to everlasting love is the crux of the story. There's a dismal mafia world of Medina crime Family and Eliza has just lost her father. In the funeral home she stumbles and falls into the arms of Jet, a maverick son, a befallen heir. Their shared traumatic pasts act as a subtle glue that binds them together. But the path is littered with obstacles and they're legit running for their lives. They complete and start to heal each other w7th passionate understanding and compassionate companionship. I liked the racy narration, characters are definitely rough edged to match the world they inhabit and it's filled with heart pounding moments. Both from danger and lust 4 stars Follow me on: Email🌻 Bookbub 🌻 Twitter🌻 Instagram🌻 Blog🌻 Facebook🌻 Amazon 🌻
Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trope: Protector Angst: 😰😰😰 Smexy: 🔥🔥 Triggers: past child sexual abuse, past spousal abuse
Quite the ride! Eliza bumped into Jett at her father's funeral and the two just can't seem to stay away from each other. Eliza desperately needs someone to take charge and Jett, subconsciously or not, seems to step right into the role of the protector she needs.
The writing is solid and it's super fast paced, but I'm a bit conflicted about certain aspects of the 2 main characters. I think it may just be a personal preference issue. The heroine is just too needy and innocent for me and it bothered me that she was so passive given all the things that happened to her. The story was a bit of a slow burn, which I enjoyed, because Eliza and Jett had tons of chemistry. The one other thing that bothered me was the fact that despite the hero having no sexual experience past abuse that happened in his childhood, he was extremely aggressive and decisive in the bedroom with Eliza. It just struck me as a bit off 🤷🏻♀️. I like Ellie's writing and I'll definitely be reading her again, but this one just wasn't for me.
Eliza and Jet are so good together. They cross paths in a very unusual way and what comes next is a tale of friendship that becomes more than it when sparks starts to fly. A story about family feuds, trusting the wrong persons and also finding love in the most unexpected moments. I was On the edge most of the time especially in the second part of the book when the suspenseful moments kept me invested in finding out who has actually killed Eliza’s parents and how everything will be solved. Darker and suspenseful, a perfect story for anyone who wants to dip their toes into mafia romance.
'His to use, his to love, his to do with whatever he wanted' Jet works for his father at his funeral home, there he meets Grieving Eliza, she gets his attention straight away with her beauty. Jet ends up looking out for her and the story goes from there. The plot had a lot of secrets that leave you guessing and wanting more. As the twists unravel i couldn't put the book down. So good!! I loved Jet-Ruthless, gorgeous and controlling and Eliza and her character development. If you like a Mafia Suspense story this is for you .
If you love mafia romance with a complex alpha hero and sweet yet fierce heroine, The Fixer by Ellie Isaacson is a must read for you. This story had amazing depth and intensity. And the writing is superb. The emotions were strong. The chemistry was soul deep. And the suspense was beautiful.
Eliza Westbrook just lost her father and she is at a loss. And she literally stumbled upon Jet in the funeral home. Jet just has been forced to leave his job as the trusted fixer of don Paulo DeAngello and he was strictly instructed to lay low. But when Eliza's life starts getting attacked from every side, he cannot just stand by and watch. He is fascinated by the redheaded beauty and her innocence. So he is going to do what he does best. Fix it. . This story had so many layers. It's not a run of the mill mafia romance with action and passion thrown together. The author takes time to carefully construct each character. Their strength. Their vulnerability. Their pain. Their desire. Their hurt. And it was an amazing reading experience. Jet has a sharp and ruthless tactical mind with determination and wisdom and excellent planning capabilities. Combined with his physical prowess, he is a threat to the enemies and asset to his friends. He is so sure that his life full of violence, death and brutality is never worthy of Eliza. My heart was breaking for this gorgeous alpha who is so confident about everything else and commands his own loyal army but he is full of self loathing. Eliza understands that and she does nothing but embracing him with all his darkness. This woman amazed me. She has lost so much. Her life has been turned upside down. She is facing life threatening attacks. Her father's legacy is at risk. But she never stopped seeing the good and never stopped being a sweetheart. Her silent strength carried her through the hell along with Jet's support. The story is so complex. Like a web. Like a maze. Twists and turns. Ups and downs. Never a dull moment. It was such a sweet and torturing slow burn. As Jet and Eliza were navigating the troubles, their connection grew stronger and finally the sizzling hot chemistry took over. Jet tried his best to resist but their pull was too strong and Eliza was adamant to not to let him go. Did I tell you that Jet has a dirty dirty mouth?
I love when a new to me author makes me fall in love with their writing. Ellie Issacson's writing was so beautiful and heartaching in The Fixer. . I reviewed an early copy voluntarily
This was my first Ellie Isaacson book, and I liked it. I'll be honest though, I was a little confused at first as I felt that I was starting in the middle of a series of interconnected books. And come to find out I was. This book happens after what I assume are events that are covered in the Medina Family Syndicate series. And I felt better after realizing that fact. I just felt like I was missing something really important, but that is not the case for this story.
Anyways, I loved the Jet and Eliza. The chemistry between them was off the charts. I was just a little confused about their hangups with certain things. But I completely understood once we got more of their back story. I do however wish we would have had a confrontation between Jet and Eliza's ex, Nathan. Man, that would have been fabulous! I can only picture the damage Jet would have done!! And I would have been so down for that. I also appreciate how both Jet and Eliza have been through things people shouldn't have to go through, and they each just want to help the other person. They show so much love for each other even though they don't realize it yet. I loved that about them! And then some of the interactions with some of the secondary characters was funny, especially when Jet kept getting jealous over someone else flirting with Eliza. Anyways, you can completely start with this book, especially if you realize there is another series that happens before this. I really like this world, and would love to read more of it!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports. When Eliza Westbrook stumbled into my arms at her father's funeral, I wanted nothing more than to help the beautiful, broken girl. I wanted to take away the pain her eyes and heal her fractured, lonely heart. My presence was the last thing she needed, yet I couldn't stay away. What started out as a mild obsession quickly turned into a game of survival. Unexplainable events threatened us at every turn, but was it because of my dark past, or the man intent on taking her life? I wanted to keep her safe, to give into the pull I felt tugging me toward her from the moment we first met. But would I be able to push my demons aside to save her, or will she have to fix me first?
This is a stand alone mafia romance in the Underworld Kings world. This is the story of Jet and Eliza. He is feeling lost after the war with the Silva's come to an end and Paulo the boss tells him to lay low. This is a unexpected turn for him and he is trying to adjust when he meets Eliza. The girls is certainly drama and tends to push him back into his old ways. Jet is such an intense character and he really takes control over Eliza's issues. To her though he is her unexpected hero, but don't think for one moment that she is a damsel in distress. Jett is about to bring out the real Eliza and she is one strong woman!! I really enjoyed reading this book and it was a great addition to the Underworld Kings.
Part of two series. Primarily to Ellie Isaacson’s Medina Crime Family series and the Underworld Kings series with the only common factors being references to The Ruin and the fictional city of Desolation, New York.
** If you have not read this story, then the following may contain spoilers from the beginning of it. **
⛔️ Contains references to, or detailed scenes, with subject matter that may be a trigger or offensive to some including adult language; steamy adult intimate scenes with dominance, submission, restraints, spankings for punishment and pleasure, etc.; and violence expected from the mafia genre such as kidnapping, abduction, torture, rape, murder, betrayal, assault, drug manufacture / distribution, embezzlement, threats, blackmail, domestic violence, illegal gambling, gun running, human trafficking, prostitution, etc.
*** There are also references to mental health problems and the physical, mental and sexual abuse of adults and children. ***
I have discovered some new to me authors with the Underworld Kings, as well as series that I have added to my TBR list. The Medina Crime Family is one of those. That is one of the reasons I waffled on rating this story because there are apparently a lot of common characters, plot threads, and world building related to the Medina Crime Family series, that is NOT explained in enough detail IMO for this story to be considered a true stand-alone read. Here are the main reasons:
- What happened that ended the war with the other family / families that resulted in Jet and his crew being disbanded at least for the time being? References made, but not enough to explain and this is mentioned from the literal beginning of the story.
- The soup: nothing is explained as to how the “villain” was able to access, sabotage, or even know that the soup was going to be brought to someone specifically.
- Trying to figure out how to word this without giving too much away, but nothing is mentioned about the status of an “ex” that would have been dealt with given the new and family relationships.
Contains a few grammatical issues primarily incorrect word choice, missing and extra inserted words. I am trying to make sure to mention these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.
High-level overview of how the story begins:
Jet is over a small crew in the Medina Crime Family. His specialty is finding solutions, or providing assistance when people come to him with their problems. His crew has been told to lay low and not have any contact for the foreseeable future. They will all have to find something to do. Unfortunately for him, Paulo (the head of the family) told him to go back and work at his family’ funeral home. Not only do they not need him there, but it is uncomfortable for all of them, especially the ones who knows what happened previously.
While trying to stay out of the way, he is run into by a green and red dynamo. Jet is able to protect her as they fall. Before they can get up, he can’t help noticing and reacting to how beautiful she is with her red hair, cinnamon-colored freckles, smooth skin and dimples. She also appears to be reacting to him by touching his arms, smoothing his lapels and giving him a couple of smiles. Then they are interrupted by an older man wanting to know where she had been.
That is when Jet realizes that he has been flirting with the daughter of the deceased! (Personal note: I love the way Ellie Isaacson crafted this part based all upon perspective. Jet interpreted Eliza’s actions as reciprocal flirting, but when he realized who she was to the decedent, he could see her actions were grief filled.)
The Fixer (Underworld Kings Series) by Ellie Isaacson. Jet has been put on Mafia suspension and sent to work at his father's funeral home. I was confused at the beginning of this story. Not sure what he did to get the suspension and a ruling of no contact with his crew. In spite of that fact, I am glad I read on. At a funeral he runs into Eliza Westbook, a fiery red head who is burying her father. The attraction between the two is instantaneous. When Jet stops by her apartment to drop off her father's ashes, he sees her condition and switches to caretaker mode. Lost, beat down and grieving, Eliza has to deal with the death of her father and all that entails plus something from her past has her broken. Jet has come along when she needed someone. When certain things happen to Eliza Jet steps in to help her out. With his crew they unravel a web of lies and secrets. Jet has issues of his own. I loved both Jet and Eliza. Regardless to Jet being a mobster he does know how to treat a women. Lucky Eliza! Not only is Jet good looking and built for sin, he cooks too along with being sweet and caring. As Jet and Eliza put all the pieces of the puzzle together regarding the things that have happened after the death of her father, they were able to find resolution to the puzzle. The journey they went on resulted in healing from their past plus other perks . A really good story in spite of the rocky start. I give this story 4 stars.
This is a stand alone mafia romance in the Underworld Kings world.
Eliza Westbrook, just lost her father, one of her last family members. She is at a loss of what to do next in life. She is a bit clumsy and fell into Jet at the funeral home. Eliza also lost her mother when she was a teenager. Her father and her were very close.
Eliza seems to be very timid, she has had an abusive relationship in her past. She is worried about doing the 'wrong' thing and upsetting people.
When Eliza goes to her father's business, his office, her "Uncle" Niles, was very upset that she was there to go through his things, his office. Niles seems to be quite shady with Eliza. He doesn't want her in the office, he doesn't want her around.
Jet just has been forced to leave his job as the trusted fixer of don Paulo DeAngello and he was strictly instructed to lay low. When Eliza falls into Jet he can't seem to stay away from. He takes her father's ashes to her apartment, and finds out a little bit more about her. In a way he is a bit on the stalker side, always showing up or texting her right when she needs someone.
I did receive a free ARC Copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
This was my first book by Ellie Isaacson and it won’t be my last! She has truly created a world that straddles the line of good and evil and secured a spot firmly in between.
Jet and Eliza have this intense, immediate attraction filled with innocence and longing that simply cannot be ignored. They’re two broken souls who have been damaged in the most brutal way.
This is such a delicious slow burn story. The relationship between Jet and Eliza evolves so naturally and their chemistry - that constant push and pull - is perfection. Romance and restraint are at war with each other but watching Jet come unhinged by Eliza is absolutely everything.
‘My heart was wound up in her, woven into her being the way she was woven into mine. I was addicted before I’d even had a taste.’
Danger is a constant reality but together they find strength and healing and even hope. This story is a great addition to the Underworld Kings collaboration!
I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
We met Jet for the first time in the Medina Crime Family series, but this can be read without having read that series - though that said some of the characters that make an appearance like Matteo and Queenie are all from that series, so would definitely be recommended to read those if you enjoy this one❣️
Jet is feeling lost after the war with the Silva’s comes to an end and Paulo the big boss tells them all to lay low. Jet goes back to his family’s business with the funeral home and bumps into Eliza. This is where the story begins and oh what a story it is😍 Absolutely loved catching up with some of my favourite characters but even better I got to find out more about Jet, who has always been so mysterious in previous stories🤩
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️
What an incredibly well put together storyline and plot. The intensity of it had me on the edge of my seat. And the characters are so well developed and with a lot of dimensions to them. I loved both Jet and Eliza from the start. The instant connection they shared was much more than just something physical. Of course their sexual attraction was powerful and consuming. But I really appreciated the more of their relationship. Jet is so protective of Eliza. So much so that at times he’s lost as how to handle his intense feelings. Eliza was just amazing she’s had so much pain and anguish in her life. But she keeps moving forward and picking herself up from the rumble. I throughly enjoyed this book. The suspense and mystery and the passion and lust. Everything combined perfectly and flowed smoothly.
Intriguing!!! Who doesn't fall for someone at a funeral home? See... Intriguing!! Jet's life just recently took an unexpected turn and while he's trying to adjust, meeting Eliza and getting tangled in her drama pushes him right back to his old ways. I love it. Jet is so intense and I love the way he takes control over Eliza's issues. He is her unexpected hero, but she's not the damsel in distress and it takes Jet to bring out the strong woman she is. The Fixer is a really good story that takes you into the world of the Medina Crime Family. If you haven't read the series No worries.. This story is a complete stand-alone and you get to meet so many of the charcters that you will love the camaraderie between them and you will most definitely want to read The Medina Crime Family series.
I really enjoyed this story and planned to read more by Ms.Ellie.Very interesting, lots of action and love too.Elisa was what Jet needed and vice a versa. Elisa was in a brutal relationship before she met Jet and he seem to radiate kindness, compassion, love and that's what she needed after losing everyone that she loved or loss.Jet was afraid to feel again,he felt used, lost and abandoned by his father for one but in the end Elisa there to help Jet open up,to trust not feel lost and to understand! Jet was there to help Elisa heal, trust and not be afraid opening up her heart again! I RATE THIS STORY A FIVE,For kindness. Compassion, trust and love.
The Fixer by Ellie Isaacson is the gripping, riveting story of Jet and Eliza. He helps her at her father’s funeral. But, seems like he needs to stick around….someone is after her…and they aren’t giving up!! Can he keep her safe??
Whew!!! This exciting, non-stop, action-packed story was soooooo good!!! Loved these two characters….and all of the lesser characters were phenomenal as well!!! Story was EXCELLENT!!!! Loved the whole thing!!!
I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
If I could give this book more stars I would. It's a very sweet and has an equal amount of angst and you learn about Jet and Eliza's troubled history. Eliza as very sweet and emotionally scarred and Jet is very guarded and protective of her even as he struggles with his own trauma. She's light and strength in her own way. And he is her courageous hero and strength. I loved this story instantly. I decided I needed both the physical copy and digital copy. ❤️
Fantastic must read in the Underworld Kings world! Jet and Eliza are brought together by misfortune and the death of her father. Their journey is one filled of fear, turmoil, suspense, lust and so much more. It was easy to relate to Eliza and her experiences in her past that led her to the way she is today. And Jet, misunderstanding and direct orders kept him away from his family and what he perceives as his true calling as 'The Fixer' my heart also felt for him too.
This was another new author for me. I so need to go and check out her Medina Crime Family Series. (This book was a standalone, but featured characters from this series)
Jet is the Medina Crime Family fixer. He’s currently laying low after the war with the Silva Family, and feeling a little lost. That is until he unexpectedly encounters Eliza. She takes his mind off all of his troubles….
Mafia romance with two tortured souls that find each other and end with a HEA. I love that both the H and h had issues to work on. Yes, he’s your quintessential alpha but he also has plenty of emotional trauma and baggage to contend with. Eliza ends up relying on a total stranger to guide her through such a devastating loss. She’s pretty dang strong throughout the entire book but everyone needs someone to lean on every once in awhile. Truly loved both these characters and didn’t want it to end.
If you love Mafia based romances, this one is for you. I don't like retellings of the story in my reviews, why? Because we want you to go and read it with no spoilers. With that being said, just know if you give this book a chance, you will be on the edge of your chair. You will want more, will need to know more. Ellie knows exactly how to throw all the emotions at you.
Jet and Eliza were the perfect match of opposites attracting. This story had the perfect amount of suspense to keep me fulling invested and needing to know how things worked out. I'm not usually huge on the darker romance but this one definitely did it for me. The characters were fantastic, plot and flow were right now point, and the HEA made my heart sing.
I gave this one a hesitant 4, at the start I was thinking probably a 2 or 3, but as I read on I definitely upped it. It started out confusing me, I felt like I had landed in the middle of the story, there seemed to bit a whole other part I was missing, but as I read on it all became clearer. Still a little murky but I found it intriguing I guess. They both had been abused in their pasts by someone, they healed each other and got their HEA
The fixer is another story within the Underworld King series and the first book I read by Ellie Isaacson. Jet and Eliza's story is an intriguing, dark mafia romance with spice. I really enjoyed reading their story and being introduced to their world. I definitely need to read her other series.
I voluntarily leave an honest review of this Advanced Readers Copy.
This was intriguing and I was sucked in from the very beginning when Eliza and Jet meet. They are drawn to each other which in turn drew me in to the story. I loved their friends to lovers vibe while the mafia underworld adds in the suspense needed that kept me riveted.
Jet and Eliza’s story was amazing. This is a first time reading Ellie Isaacson. I could not put this book down. Eliza was just getting one hit after another and Jet was there to help her overcome them. I need to read more from Ellie.
