I was trying to avoid any werewolves in my life, and now I have to live with one? I want to worry about human things like how to dress for the first day of a new job or how to sneak a silver dagger past the metal detectors when I get there.
But when you’re working in a company run by vampires, human concerns become trivial. What’s not is figuring out why my undead bosses are trapping and killing werewolves. But that might not be the only secret hiding in the walls of the WWL Corporation, and what I soon discover could turn the supernatural world on its head (and land me on my back).
And to cap it all off, somehow Tobias Somfield, the English werewolf I rescued from moon madness last summer, is now my roommate. All he does is brood and mope and wind up my worst instincts, constantly reminding me of how very un-human I really am. Tolerating him is darn near impossible, and the growing pull I feel toward him? Completely insane.
This is a great series but I fear that this book while clearing up a LOT of things is more of a information dump before what I hope is a much more satisfying book 3 that moves the story along a bit more.
Geri is still a bit of a mystery that we are being fed little pieces of which starts to get frustrating after a bit.
Bottom Line in this short review, lots of info, seems to be a couple of subplots and I can't wait for the next one but hope it is a bit more fulfilling than this one was but even after all the things in this book I still have a ton of questions and hope they will be answered in book 3 or at least see a big movement in the story and hopefully her powers.
Felt too YA urban fantasy for me, also this has kept popping up in romance and it's NOT a romance even in the slightest.... I feel bad for Geri I do,deeply in love and having the one you love forced to another .... But honestly it's all really weird because even you can tell she still has some feelings for her ex , I dint care I'd they were all pawns of her horrible crazy mother, it was only a year ago, she should be angry and maybe a touch bitter at the situation.. I mean one minute she hints he was like her fated mate almost and the "he will" always be home to her,and he can't seem to let her go even though he's already "knocked up" his mate, nothing's happening w/the vamp. Slayer and Tobias is NEVER going to be over his mate.... This was as clean as a hallmark movie and that ok, because This. Is . Not . A . Romance . Book. I just wish it would stop being put in that category ! If you want an interesting story about vampires and their evil machinations against werewolves and aren't interested in romance this might be the story for you.... But the reviewer who said this story had steam ?!?? WTF?!?!? Geri gets kissed once then it fades to black, if you think this book is steamy I guess hallmark movies are white hot passion to you... Like I said, if you want a nice mild (non romantic ) urban fantasy, with vamp.s plotting against wolves w/a bit of a YA feel , you'll love this... But if you want something deep or gritty, or if like me you saw this in a romance category , well not soo much... Thank you fir your work and effort Ms. Meeks but this wasn't for me... Good luck , i hope your very successful ❣️
3.5 Stars This series has promise but it went a little slow for book two. It was still really good but it felt like nothing was answered and more questions were piled on. I'm hopeful that book three will clear things up and move the story more. The writing is good and the characters are engaging enough that I want to know what happens next. I'm optimistic that book three will fill in the gaps. Cautiously recommended.
I’m already anxious for the next. I love Kendrai’s twist to the paranormal realm. I was totally cut off guard with the turn of events. And what is going on between Geri and Tobias...
Family drama, supernatural connections, the deeper truths uncovered...
Relinquished Hood picks up not too long after the end of Reluctant Hood. We find Geri Kline very surprised to learn that her internship with Igor Karmarov is still on, despite how things ended at the end of the first novel. Geri is joined for the summer by Tobias, a European werewolf who is now indebted to her for saving his life.
Geri’s personal mission is to find out what the vampires in Chicago are up to—why are they so interested in the werewolves? Once she realizes that her powers as a nascent hood aren’t going to be enough, Geri begins to train with Tobias, and later Caleb—an intriguing man in the WWL building where she works with a secret of his own. Geri realizes that there are more layers to this mystery than she wants to know, but at this point in the game, it’s too late. She’s in it for the long haul, whether she likes it or not.
I liked this sequel to Reluctant Hood and the cliffhanger ending makes me excited for the third book. It was easy to get invested in the characters and want to know more about them. I was a little disappointed that Geri’s roommate Amy only appeared a little at the beginning and hope she plays a bigger role in future books; her comic relief is fun and entertaining. I’m also interested to find out more about Caleb, Igor, and Inga, and seriously, what the heck does Geri’s mother, Red Matron Brunhild, know that she is so desperate to keep from her daughter?
I was thrilled to get my hands on an early copy of this book and look forward to finding out more in this modern day Little Red Riding Hood tale.
I was given an advanced copy of this book for an honest review and I can tell you that, as with the first book in this series, I absolutely LOVED IT!! I was quickly sucked back into this original storyline and characters. I love Geri, she is absolutely my kind of heroine, snarky, badass (with a spine of steel) yet not to above it all to admit her wrongs, she is far from infallible. Tobias is a heartthrob through and through, a broken man with an inner strength that makes me mourn with him yet want to rip his clothes off and take his pain away. (what can I say, I am a giver like that) And the new addition of a sexy man (don't want to spoil anything but yikes!! steeeeeeamy!) This author knows how to bring the heat, tantalize ALL your senses and leaving you wanting more! There were twists and turns I didn't see coming in this book, so it kept me on the edge of my seat. It answered most all of the questions that remained in the first book, and by the end I had so many new ones that my heart was racing and I was saddened when I turned the last page. I love when I find an author who can keep me guessing, and with such an original story, Its hard to guess whats going to happen, I am so thankful for that. Too many times I have been able to predict exactly who will end up with who and who exactly the mysterious bad guy is right off the bat, that couldn't be further from the truth in this series. I will be waiting for the next installment of the Red Hood Chronicles eagerly!
This was an amazing sequel and I honestly cannot wait to see what happens next. this book is full of action and unexpected developments. Geri dives deep inside the world of the WWL corporation, as the secrets of their genetic research get revealed. The complex friendship between Geri and Tobias develops and solidifies, as the new painful discoveries come to light and new interesting characters, crucial to the story are reveled. Geri's mother comes to the forefront with her inexplicable acts of brutality, most of which are directed towards Geri. New unexpected alliances are formed and most of the questions get answered towards the end of the book. The ending leaves an opening for further confrontations and I am curious to see where it is going to go. This book was an emotional roller coaster full of non-stop action and I could not stop reading until it was finished. The reading order is: Requited Hood (Red Hood #0.5) available for subscribers to the author's newsletter on the author's website, Reluctant Hood (Red Hood #1), Relinquished Hood (Red Hood #2), and Ravening Hood (Red Hood #3).
I really liked Relinquished Hood and will definitely continue with this series. In fact I'm going to get onto Amazon right now and order the next one. I enjoy the central characters and their growing, changing relationships. I missed Geri's roommate Amy, but understand that not every character can be in every book. I hope that Geri can develop more strong female relationships in the next book. But I do appreciate that she can have strong male relationships that are not romantic in nature. I enjoyed the plot twists with answers to some open questions from the first book while opening up new areas to explore in subsequent books. Kendrai Meeks has established a universe with a set of rules that she continues and enhances in the second book of the Red Hood Chronicles.
This is a whole new twist on the Red riding hood fairy tale. Our hood is Geri, and she is a fun, kick butt type of heroine that is so likeable as a character. All kinds of plots going on in the story with lots of action and some mystery. We have wolves of the were persuasion and vampires too. Of course lots of conflict within going on and a mother who is not my favorite character. That being said this is the second book and its even better than the last. This is one of those books that you hate to see end and I eagerly wait for the next. All of the characters are well developed and likeable and the world building is fantastic. If I could I would give this book some more stars.
Still loving the storyline. The Hoods for Werewolves and Slayers for Vampires. At first when I started reading the book I was confused on The Seven Ravens part, but as you got further into the story it all became clear. Geri is still going against her mom. Cody is still having Tobias protect her. She is now working in WWL to try to find out what happened to the Werewolves that disappeared. I don’t want to say too much on the book and ruin everything so I will leave it at that. I can’t wait for the next book to come out.
The legacy of Little Red Riding Hoods descendants continues. This one definitely had me hooked from the first paragraph. So much so that I read it in one sitting. And the chemistry between Geri and Tobias is undeniable, even though both insist on trying to deny it. Can't believe I have to wait 3 months for the next chapter of this story! Old legends, werewolves, vampires, I'm ready, bring on more!
Meeks has done a fantastic job keeping us on our toes with this part of the story. Just when you are sure you know what is going to happen, you are spun about and pointed in another direction.
Love the evolution and interaction of the characters. Another fantastic storyline. Cannot wait to read book three, Geri is an awesome lass to read about.
“I shot some courage into my spine and reminded myself that not only did I have my big girl underwear on, but that was the only kind I owned.”
WOW. I am such a fangirl now! Geri is strong, self-assured, and doesn’t let obstacles like a sword in the gut stop her. Yet she still has so much love and compassion for her friends that I love them too.
Each character, no matter how small, seems like a real person. Tobias really tugs my heart strings after losing his mate; his tortured need to get revenge to justify his life. Inga and Igor, the vampires who are trying to save…well, their fountain of youth, really. I feel bad for the last slayer, who is such a flirt but is stuck alone in a gilded cage he allowed:
“Those who would exchange their freedom for security deserve neither.” Kendra Meeks snuck the theme right into the action. It is a testimony to good writing that you can enjoy the plot without ever realizing that one theme explores what it means to have safety over freedom.
The world-building is outstanding. It is a melding of modern society with a few sci-fi technological innovations the vampires created, and four supernatural “species” (only if they cannot breed among each other, which is an assumption. They could be mutations…). Each type of supernatural has specific social conventions, rites of passage, and history. Only Geri seems to navigate each society without consequences.
I normally read the first novel in a series or a standalone, but was so entranced by the first novel I bought and read the second one in a couple of days! And I might buy the third tomorrow. I loved it!
As with the first one, I'm still torn. Still, 4 stars, and that only thanks to the intruiging world, plus the truly magnificently funny language. But storywise ... I love Geri and the other characters, truly, yet, especially Geri, though supposedly clever and smart conveniently ignores fairly obvious clues, only to later 'suddenly' have it somehow revealed. That gets on my nerves, as well as her blind hate for her mother, even though it's obvious she is only acting the way she does out of love. Finally, again, while at least the major arch from book one is more or less brought to its conclusion, it definitely ends again in the middle of the next arch. So on it goes for me. Grudgingly. Again ...
4.5 stars. Omgggggg soooooo good. Love the unique twist on vampires and werewolves, with the slayers and the hoods. So creative. I love Tobias. Tobias is so protective and adorable. He needs to be protected more. My heart aches to think of how her and Cody’s relationship ended… literally feel sad every time it’s mentioned lol. But I need her and Tobias together. I would say her and Cody but with a baby on the way… before the baby I thought maybe they could dissolve his forced mating but now I can’t see it unless she miscarried or died. I just want Tobias to find happiness — he deserves the world. Love that guy. Who cares about Caleb lol we love Tobias

Enjoying this series, still no smutty bits but at this point I'm not missing that part of the story. The main focus is on Little Red, her complex relationships and what is she! I did guess what I think was suppose to be twist very early on. But the story wasn't what I thought it may be, so I got to be a little surprised. The whole one mate for life thing though...that just annoys me. Fated mates I get, but to mate for life with the person you lose your virginity too...short end of the mating rules there. Almost like no matter what you force love someone if you get it on. Anyways rambling there. Onto the next book, really what little red to have some fun, just a little bit! 4.2 stars
i usually like the trope when the two mcs move in together... but for some reason, this made me a little less excited... maybe it's because both geri and tobias are still caught up on their last loves but it's kind of implied that they'll end up with each other? also they run a little too hot and cold for me. introducing caleb was interesting but does anyone get the feeling that geri overestimates herself a lot of the time? like she talks about how shes trained so hard and that she can handle situations... but she also often gets her ass handed to her.
Great continuation of the story - picks up right where book 1 left off. Lots of guessing who could be trusted as well as plenty of twists. Still leaves a lot to figure out as far as Geri's parents are concerned. Plenty of chemistry and possible chemistry between Geri, Caleb, and Tobias.
LOVED this book. The sequel to Reluctant hood the red hood chronicles. It was fast paced and had enough action to keep me needing more. I really like the way the friendship between Geri and Tobias is going and this book also has a few new characters introduced with some interesting backstories. You will love it if your a fan of supernatural/fantasy type books.
It’s not as good as this first, but I do like where it’s going. There wasn’t as much witty banter in this one either, which was part of the Main reason I enjoyed the first one. I can see where this is going, while at the same time it isn’t predictable. Looking forward to the 3rd book 📚
I’m all in Geri is so relatable though her life and even ethnic backgrounds a bit foreign. I love characters and the twists you don’t see coming. Kendrai has figured how to make Tobias a sizzling a type male and also the best boy! The grumpiest boy! We explore family bond more and I’m glad Geri isn’t totally alone.
