Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

My thoughts: DYLAN is the second book in this spin-off series but it stands alone. It is a clean suspense with very little romance and no faith message. Fans will love this new series. The ending felt a bit rushed to me but as usual there were twists I didn't expect and an unexpected resolve. If you like suspense you will love this series. I was given a copy free and all opinions are my own.

This is book #2 in the Lantern Beach Series and this one is Dylan and Katie’s story. In typical Christy Barritt fashion there is plenty of action, suspense and romance as well. This one leaves you hanging at the end so we know it will still be around in the next book. I enjoyed this story of Dylan who is still suffering from his young wife’s death five years earlier, and Katie a disgraced Reporter who is in danger and in need of a bodyguard. Well done and a very good book.

I've read Titus and Brandon before, and those were both 5 stars⭐️!
But this one just didn't hit the mark.
A lot of action, but the romance was sort of weak and rushed.
This book seemed shorter and things were rushed/went unexplained.
This book is still good, but needed to be longer like the others in this series to really get a good feel.

This book is basically exactly like BRANDON, but Brandon was way better.

⚠️⚠️⚠️ SPOILERS AHEAD⚠️⚠️⚠️

Dylan is a cool guy and Katie isn't annoying at all, which is great!
The story was just a bit boring and it seemed like every other minute they were being shot at and hunted down. There was no down time from the action.
Even the ending was weird because they didn't catch the main bad guy, Donovan. (Maybe someone catches him in MADDOX?)

➡️Why did Katie get mad about Dylan concealing his true job which was to protect her? 🤦🏻‍♂️
Not something you should get super mad about. Plus, Dylan literally COULD NOT tell her, because Katie's Dad hired him and specified in the contract that Katie is not to know. Katie is only supposed to think that Dylan's her new assistant at work.
That but was annoying.

I will definitely still read more books from this author, though!
Like i said, Titus and Brandon (books #4 & #1) were both GREAT! I'm sure Maddox will be a good book and Christy Barritt has more books in different series!

I loved this book! I was looking forward to the second installment of Lantern Beach Blackout: Danger Rising Series and I wasn't disappointed! Katie is a guest journalism professor at the University of Charlotte in NC, after being fired from her job as a TV reporter. When her life is in danger, her father hires the Blackout Agency from Lantern Beach to act as body guards, BUT, Katie must not know! So, Dlylan goes in undercover, as her new assistant. His Clark Kent-type personna, complete with glasses, won't fool Katie for very long. As her life is threatened several more times, and Katie begins to rely on Dylan and he feels a pull towards her, he wants to tell her the truth, but her father forbids it. When she does find out, will she let him go on protecting her, or cut him loose? This book was full of lots of actions and twists and turns. It kept me guessing throughout.

I received an advance copy of this book. The opinions shared her are my own.

3.4 - 3.5

This is the 2nd book of the Lantern Beach Blackout: Danger Rising series by Christy Barritt.

We were introduced to Dylan in the 1st book,  but here we see more into Dylan's life. As Dylan is assigned to protect Katie, a journalist turned professor, he has to go undercover as her assistant. Things start getting out of hand when Katie tries to uncover the dirty secrets of a criminal. Will Katie's drive for justice get them killed?

So, I made sure to finish the 4 books before reviewing any of them... AND... I can certainly say that (sadly) this has been my least favorite book. 😔
I really did like Dylan and had high hopes for his story, but I just felt that everything was just thrown in there to make a recipe for disaster.

Obviously, I didn't like the deceiving part. Like... I get that if they would have told Katie at first what Dylans true purpose was, she might have refuse, but I think if they would have insisted, she would have agreed. So, this made me dislike that deceiving part. Thankfully, it didn't last throughout the whole book, but I didn't see the need of hiding the truth from Katie. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The romance was not as WOW as other CB's stories and the plot seemed too complicated for such a short book.
I guess that since the story will continue in Maddox's book then maybe there is hope.

Katie Logan has a handsome new assistant in her university office. However, Dylan Granger is really there to act as her bodyguard. Rejected from her TV news profession, she now teaches journalism—but she still has life lessons to learn. Danger and threats disrupt her life, but who is behind them all? As she tries to uncover the tricky trail to discover who is targeting her, the peril escalates, as does the attraction to Dylan. The exciting story grips your interest and won’t stop until the culprits are finally revealed. The novel stands alone, but is part of a larger collection. It also leaves you wondering about what will happen next. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Navy Seal turned Secretary!?!?!

Once again, Barritt gets creative with her Blackout team.
This time Dylan Granger pretends to be a grad assistant to Katie Logan a disgraced reporter turned professor.

I love the independent nature of Katie. She's a strong woman with deep convictions so when attempts on her life start happening she suspects one person. A very powerful person who seems to be untouchable.

I also appreciated Katie's willingness to trust Dylan and lean into his strength. They made a strong and powerful couple. Lot of fun action to make this a very enjoyable story to read.

What happens when your daughter is in danger but doesn't want a bodyguard? You hire someone without her knowledge - and the deception begins! When Katie Logan is attacked, her father hires Blackout to protect her but they cannot let her know. Enter Dylan Granger as Katie's new university assistant. As danger continues to stalk Katie, it becomes harder and harder for Dylan not to let her know his true identity. Can a relationship survive if there are secrets? Can Dylan protect Katie if she learns the truth? Twists and turns, suspense, and characters that keep you guessing what is going to happen until the very end! I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.

Dylan by Christy Barritt is a fantastic work of romantic suspense. This book is part of the Lantern Beach Blackout series and it kept my attention from the very first page. Katie has made a lot of enemies as a hard nosed reporter, and now someone wants her dead. Dylan’s military background comes in handy to help keep her safe as they figure out this mystery. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series! This book is perfect to take with you to the beach or for a long weekend. Loved it. I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I evidently am not a patient person. I really don’t like waiting for the next book in a series so I often wait for the series to be complete or at least several books written so I can binge. I held on to this book for a month but couldn’t stand to wait any longer. I am loving this series and the Blackout operatives. Christy Barritt gives us interesting characters, okay substitute strong handsome men, humor, danger, secrets and more than a few surprise twists. I like that her heroines are the get involved types, not the stand back and wring hands and cry types. A bit of a cliffhanger but that’s okay it just means we have more to come.

I had an ARC copy of this book, but this is my honest and voluntary opinion. Dylan Granger, former Navy Seal, is assigned to protect Katie, a former journalist who is teaching at a college. He was hired by her father and she has no idea he is anything other than her new teaching assistant. Danger awaits them throughout the book, and they are drawn into trouble at every turn. Christy Barritt is a master at suspense and this book keeps you reading to the end! A great addition to this series!

Thoroughly enjoyed

Love these Blackout guys. And the women they're attracted to. No surprise really especially if you've read about the men who started Blackout and the women they're now married to. I've loved every story that's been attached to Lantern Beach in any way. Well for real I have loved every story I've read that Christy has written. And I still have past books I haven't gotten to. Thank you Christy I'm a huge fan. God bless you.

Excellent Mystery Book

Christy’s books are interesting with mystery, suspense, and love. They are clean with little to no euphemisms, no swear words, and no profanity. They are clean as well. The only thing I would suggest is to change up the wording of “I don’t like the sound of that”, or something similar, which is used a number of times in her books. Otherwise, her books are close to perfect. Great characters, suspenseful plot, realistic situations. Fun read!!

Another suspense filled book!

Enjoyed the characters, their loyalty and integrity. Lots of twists and turns kept my interest and I read it in one sitting. A bit disappointed that, although God was mentioned and they attended church, They seemed to depend on each other in difficult times, as if God was a last resort.

I absolutely love the toughness mixed with sensitivity of the main character, Dylan. The other main character, Katie, is an incredibly tough character and extremely capable woman. The story that brings them together has a twisted plot with many surprises. Once I started reading this book, I couldn’t put it down. Definitely a must read by Christy Barritt.

Never disappoints.

I really enjoy Christy Barritt’s book. The characters are good. I liked Dylan’s character snd the interplay between him and Katie and the story. It also brought forward the horrible human trafficking problem we have in our country— many folks brought in through our open Southern borders.

Fast-paced

Bullet holes in the wall, a knife lodges in the desk, and a threatening text - that’s just chapter one! Tighten your seatbelt and get ready for a ride. Remember to breathe. Don’t forget to enjoy some of the scenery along the way. There are two people here with chemistry!

Edge of your seat suspense

I love the way Ms. Barritt uses her characters in more than 1story and how each one gets their own story too. Each story can be a stand alone or read as part of the series. She has great character development as well as stories that keep you so involved they are hard to put down.

Undercover

Dylan is hired by Katie’s dad to protect her without her knowledge. Dylan is hired as her assistant and not a bodyguard. Dylan doesn’t want to keep the fact that he is a bodyguard from her, but is asked to do so. Katie continues her investigation and Dylan jumps in to help.

Dylan has a difficult task. Protect Katie but without her knowing that's what he's doing. Not an easy task as she is a very smart woman whose job is to find the truth. I very much enjoyed this story. I feel the ending left room for another book to bring it to full completion. I read a copy from my library.

Katie and Dylan

Katie’s dad hired Dylan to protect his daughter from some very shady deals going on that she was investigating. Now Katie was a type of person if you lie to her, your one and done. What will happen when they find out what is going and she finds out her dad hired Dylan. Great mystery in more than one way.

Dylan is hired to protect Katie and pretends to be her assistant because she doesn't want protection. His acting is believable until he ends up saving her life and has to use his shooting skills. They start to fall for each other and the danger becomes emotional as well as physical. I enjoyed the fast pace and mystery.

Wonderful suspense novel

Fired from her job as a TV reporter, Katie is a guest journalism professor. When an attempt is made on her life, her father hires Blackout. Dylan goes undercover as her new assistant, but Katie doesn't know. As they work to discover who is targeting her, the suspense and mystery builds up. This suspenseful story will draw you in from the beginning and will keep you guessing until the end.

A romantic suspense novel

This is a cute romantic suspense novel but it is predictable and a little unrealistic. I enjoy reading these to pass the time but the female characters seem to make a lot of unwise decisions.

Another intriguing and spellbinding mystery in a completely different scenario! I am amazed at how intense and creative this author is to hold me hostage to the end. Thank you once again Christy Barritt!
