Twisted Magic #6

Twisted Secrets: Twisted Magic Book Six

Rate this book
With access to the vault denied, Safiya turns her attention to helping Sasmita in their final days. It is only a matter of time before all the dark ones roam free, and no one will be able to stop them.

The quest to save Sachin leads Safiya through a forgotten myth, a dark betrayal, and a stunning realization. As the pieces of the puzzle come together, Safiya confronts the Seller, the man who distributed the portraits through the world, and learns about the person behind the breach. Armed with these revelations, Safiya travels to Sweden to track down the sixth dark one. Here, the mage has created an apocalypse unlike any other.

But all of that pales in comparison to the secret Randall has been hiding.

Note: As second to the last in the series, this book ends on a cliffhanger.

This series has hooked me from the start and this latest addition is building and building up to the final book! It’s gripping and so exciting and the twists and turns just keep on coming and the anticipation is off the charts. Action packed and full of secrets, there’s betrayal and a revelation to surprise us all. This has been one hell of a journey and I am sad that it is coming to an end but boy am I looking forward to the last book to see where it takes us!

This is book six of the Twisted Magic series and sees Saf (Safiya) and her group of friends and quorum members, heading out to track down the supplier of the portraits, into the world and how he is involved They find the person is called Vincenzo de Luca and he has been selling the portraits of the dark mages and witches to innocents, unleashing chaos and mayhem into the world. They should be on their way to track down and capture the sixth dark mage, but some of the answers that have been revealed about the consortium, add another level of danger and hopelessness to the situation. They need to make sure Sasmita’s son Sachin is found and rescued, but that will bring more mystery to matters and questions needing answers. Who is his father and how can he detect hidden magic? His discovery behind a secret portal in the bounty hunter’s lair, will give them answers to the bounty hunter’s request for the blood of each dark mage at last, but also raises another monstrous being to defeat, if that is even possible. De Luca is the Seller, but he is not what you might expect and she learns a few details that the consortium have been keeping from them all. There is a fifth god, who the four gods of the consortium cast out and he has been planning ever since, to get his own back at them and to destroy them and their control over all the worlds.
Saf and her friends, the quorum and the rest of her group have to now travel to Sweden, where it seems the latest dark mage they have to face, has a bit of a Viking theme to the destruction and mayhem he is causing. They will meet a group of local survivors, who had the forethought to bring the portrait with them, not knowing why it might be important, but having an inkling that it may be behind what is happening to their world. There are enormous frost giants to be overcome and the portrait to be found. The medallion to help cure Fiona has been destroyed and Saf still doesn’t know what exactly was done to her best friend. Randall will finally reveal the secret that he has been trying to tell Saf over their long journey so far. What he tells her will fight against the memories she has of her twin sister and their childhood together. Her reluctance to accept anything else from Randall has brought a tension between them. She knows Randall more as her twin sister Jada’s boyfriend when they were in their teens. From what he tells her, that was not true and couldn’t have been further from what he wanted. He has always liked Saf but she has always connected him with her sister, who she has seen or heard from in years. The takedown of the sixth dark mage will not go as planned and shocks a plenty are piling up! The journey continues to see if they can put the dark mages and witches back where they belong. But do they? A huge question about the consortium and quorum’s past actions and whether they can defeat a god, as well as the two most powerful remaining dark mages and witches. The story is coming to an incredible climax and has been getting better and better as the series progresses. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

“Twisted Secrets” is the sixth and second to last instalment in the “Twisted Magic” mystery urban fantasy series by Rainy Kaye, whose main character (Safiya Morgan) originally worked as a life coach for both ‘normal’ and supernatural clients, in a small town (Green River) in Nebraska, and whose path has led her the seals and put her in the way of the Consortium at the very same time.

Safiya has reach rock bottom, denied access to the vault, it seems her chances to stopping the dark ones for roaming the earth are close to null. Sasmita end is rapidly approaching, and thus Safiya tries to concentrate on her. And then unexpectedly, all clues come together and Safiya realizes who is the real mastermind behind the breach, still hopping against hope to stop the inevitable, Safiya tracks the sixth dark mage all the way to Sweden, and to a new apocalypse.
But there is Randall hidden secret what it will really tip the scales. A quick note of warning, this book end in a major cliffhanger 😉 which will be revealed in the next and final book.

A thrilling, captivating story, fast-paced and action-packed, with interesting characters and a well-balanced mix between pure action, character development and world-building. Nicely written and easy-to-follow and read, with an enticing plot and a satisfactory resolution.

Our heroine has one last hope to prevent disaster, but is her effort doomed before she even starts?

This is book six of the series and the penultimate book. I would recommend starting at the beginning rather than here.

This is an urban fantasy story. The story is well written and easy to read with a fascinating setting that nicely developed and a bit dark. The cast of characters is nicely developed and critical to the story. The plot continues to be fast paced and full of action, mystery, and intrigue. The story builds rapidly towards the conclusion and this book does end in a cliffhanger. All the more reason that I am more anxious than ever to see what comes next.

Highly recommended

This book, out of them all, deals mostly with the discovery of various truths that need to come to light. Safiya and her group have to deal with so much destruction and mayhem it almost breaks them but they keep trudging forward. Meeting the final three dark mages unlocks many key elements that are needed in discovering what is going on and why. This book excellently drives the series forward towards completion.

It's like everything is coming together in one neat package.... kind of. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, and this one definitely has one. BUT I have the next book already, so that's a moot point overall for me.

Our characters' pasts finally seem to be sorted out or just about, so the irritating holes I kept feeling are filing in.

The gaps in the storyline are slowly filling in as it appears the characters are more intertwined with it than anyone realized.

I feel like each book has gotten slightly better than the last, and I'm really looking forward to the next one.
