When the nation falls, who will rise from the ashes?
After an EMP explodes over the United States, Kora Clark, an ambitious rookie cop, finds herself leading a revolution in a lawless city. Looting, murder, and the worst of mankind bubble to the surface of our broken nation. From an invading foreign army to cut-throat gangsters, multiple factions vie for power in the explosion’s aftermath. Now our country’s survival hinges on San Antonio’s can Officer Clark maintain order or will the powerless city consume her like it has millions of others?
First of all, the editing and writing was pretty bad...many errors in word usage etc., and it ended up being quite distracting. Most of the characters were caricatures of extremes, especially the cartel-gang leader and the female main character. I had the most problems with Kora, the female police officer. After the event she loudly insists that they all have a duty to help "everyone", even though many of her colleagues are clearly worried about their own families. She has no time for that nonsense. She ends up compromising her lofty morals again and again to maintain her prime decision -making role and power base, a fact that she even sort of recognizes. She was even willing to power share with the gang lord and somehow was surprised when he was less than reliable. She later reverted to her original must-save-the-world mode, insisting on a two-man assault on a large well-armed group. The ending raced over a longer period of time and was very rushed and weak. This is really a 1.5 star but I can't give just 1 star since I managed to finish the book.
While the storyline is action-packed and the MCs interesting EMPSA definitely needs a proofreader. I was thrown out of the story repeatedly. I believe Donovan has a great imagination and potential.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook at no cost and this is my honest and freely given opinion.
Needed prof reading. Several battle scenes do not reveal the impact of heavy weapons. San Antonio has several Air Force and army but almost don’t mention is made of it
