I could totally see this as a movie! I love those missed connections and serendipity type movie plots, this book fit right into those. Gemma is so loveable and indulged into her work. Jack is laid back and equally into his work. Their constant happenings of running into one another makes this story so heartwarming. I loved every bit of it! I especially loved how the last chapter shoots you three years in the future to see how life has taken hold and they have developed even more together. This is so cute and a must read!

This ARC was given to me to review from the publishers and BookSirens. All comments above are solely my true opinion after reading this book.

The story follows and switches point of view between the two main protagonists, Gemma and Jack after they have a one-night-stand with one another. They continue to cross paths, Jack views it as fate and Gemma is adamant that it’s not.

I enjoy everything that I have read from Jennifer so I was super excited going into this story.

As someone who is pansexual it was really refreshing to see a main character. It genuinely made me really happy to see because I don’t see it very often.

What I think would’ve made this book better was for there to have been more deeper conversations between Gemma and Jack. I feel like that would’ve helped me feel more connected to the characters. I loved the time jumps but I would’ve loved if there was more details in between them, for the same reason of it would’ve helped me connect with the characters more.

Overall, this is the perfect read for anyone who is going through a reading slump or if you’re looking for a short read to help with your reading goals. I’ll definitely revisit this in the future.

Thank you to BookSirens and Jennifer Ann Shore for providing me this arc!

Gemma’s one-night stand with Jack isn’t turning out quite as she planned…

When Gemma meets Jack at a bar, she’s in no mood for love or celebrating. The next morning her one-night stand with him hits her like a double espresso. Jack wants a relationship, but she doesn’t have the time or the inclination, especially after her last relationship went up in flames. She tries telling him it’s nothing personal, but he doesn’t agree. New York City is a big city, yet fate keeps bringing them together, or so Jack keeps telling her. The more time she spends with Jack, the more convincing his argument. Can a one-night stand turn into love? Gemma’s not sure but maybe she’ll stick around to see.

Nothing Personal for Breakfast is a fun, quirky romance about a guy who falls for the woman first. In classic Jennifer Ann Shore style, the setting is NYC, and the descriptive narration takes you there without ever leaving your home. Every sound, action, feeling, smell, taste of NYC is brilliantly described. Jack is the epitome of a cinnamon roll hero. He’s sweet, so sweet he’ll give you a sugar rush, caring, supportive, and irresistible. You’ll want to gobble him up. Gemma is a workaholic heroine who is jaded by failed relationships. While I could relate to her plight, I found her treatment of Jack a little harsh. But I’m sure it’s just the romantic in me. Nothing Personal for Breakfast is a very realistic, modern, big city romance. There are plenty of swoony moments and the ending is delightful. Another solid adult romance from Jennifer Ann Shore. If you’re a romance reader, pick up Nothing Personal for Breakfast. If modern romance is your thing, you’ll love Nothing Personal for Breakfast.

Gemma meets Jack after being stood up by her sister. She is not looking for romance and only interested in her career. She and Jack keep running into each other and the attraction is always there, even though it's been months since they last connected.

I really liked this novella from Jennifer Ann Shore. The story flowed well. I was rooting for them to find each other again and again. It actually felt like it was longer than 180 pages and I wish it had been. I look forward to other books from this author.

So….. Um…. This was like 100 and some odd pages about two people who just couldn’t communicate and get together? And it takes Gemma a year to find out Ryan has a brother and it’s Jack? Apparently, no one in either family has any kind of discussions that would lead people to putting two and two together. And there’s this whole play at fate that never gets explored in any depth or with any real connection. And Tia is suddenly Gemma’s bestie who she confides in more than her sister? I just don’t get any of this. I did a lot of face palming throughout this one. It was just so illogical and nonsensical. I actually rolled my eyes when all the pieces clicked together because there wasn’t enough development of anyone and anything to make me invested in any of it. Like it all just connects and happens and that’s in. Nothing deeper, nothing besides just an “of course…. 🙄”

This is a very short novel that is spicy, sweet but has plenty of angst. Gemma and Jack keep bumping into each other but never get it together enough to figure out how to feel. This takes place over the span of almost 2 years.

Miscommunication

Jack and Gemma are the epitome of “right person, wrong time” -- but like, multiple times. Though some readers might get frustrated by the lack of communication between *most* of the major players in this story, I can’t help but think the author did this on purpose to keep us on our toes. Luckily, Jack and Gemma eventually figured it out and us romance readers finally got the HEA we are looking for. This story was a great blend of engaging plot, playful banter, and of course, lots of spicy spice. I’d absolutely recommend it for anyone looking for a quick, lighthearted read. It will have you smiling and wishing for your own lovesick artist boy-toy, guaranteed.

Really enjoyed this cute, big-city-small-world novella as my first read from Jennifer Ann Shore. She’s definitely got a new fan out of me, and I can’t wait to get started binging ALL of her books.

Communication is key people. Did none of the characters ever talk to each other? Like ever? ALL the problems with their “relationships” would’ve been solved with even a five minute conversation with their siblings and friends.

That being said, it’s a really cute and actually kind of realistic idea that you would run into the same person over and over again throughout the city. Sure, there were some significant periods of time between meetings but as the saying goes “it’s a small world after all”. I think my main complaint for the book itself was it felt so rushed. This book could’ve easily been 300 pages of solid story. I really would’ve like to have seen more from the characters. Like Tia for example. One page Gemma is turning her down romantically and then all of a sudden at the end of the book they’re bffs who tell each other everything? That kind of came out of left field, right?

This isn’t my first Jennifer Ann Shore and will certainly not be my last. Unfortunately for me this one just didn’t hit the mark like Perfect Little Flaws did.

Not my favourite book in the world. It’s a short story covering a long span of time about a couple who it takes about a year to get their act together and finally fall in love. The book had some interesting scenes but all in all not a great book. It struggled to keep my attention, I wanted to see how it ended, that’s the only reason I finished it. This is my first read by Jennifer Ann Shore. I liked the pretty cover, the premise of missed encounters, and the guy falling first. I assumed this would be a quick meet-cute with a few giggles and a HEA.

What I received was a much deeper vibe. A combo of How I Met Your Mother, mixed with Sex and the City, with a very Harry Meets Sally ending. New York without the rose-colored glasses and I was here for it. The timeline was also anything but quick.

Gemma is an intelligent, hardworking, career driven lawyer with goals on goals and a plan to achieve said goals. She loves what she does and recognizes that she doesn't have time to entertain a relationship right now. Especially after the last one ended in a shit show.

Jack is an artist slash barista who is just living his best life. He's hard working and passionate and he believes in fate and that the mulitple encounters with Gemma are a sign that she is the one.

Gemma is attracted to Jack, she appreciates his kind words and support, she acknowledges the chemistry they have. She's just not focused, it's not a good time. Jack is so open and honest with his feelings and while he has a few big projects in the works, the desire to be with Gemma is first and foremost in his mind.

Gemma isn't a villain. At no point did I think she's intentionally trying to hurt or mislead Jack. I think that her repetitive ball dropping is due to her failure to prioritize her personal life above work and having tunnel vision. The girl doesn't even have friends that she hangs out with.

I really enjoyed their story. I was rooting for both of them, not just in love but in all aspects of their personal and professional lives. NYC is huge the fact that they kept bumping into each other and/or had mutual acquaintances bring them together is kismet. The resistance, miscommunication, hurt feelings, along with the magnetic pull is real life romance. Very rarely will you find a couple where they both knew upon locking eyes that this was it. I feel like Gemma and Jack's story is relatable.

I am stingy with my 5 stars. I only give them out if a story has pulled a strong emotional or physical response from me. The last few chapters of this had me giddy, excited, frustrated, and on pins and needles. I was so committed that I skipped eating dinner.

Totally Worth It! I highly recommend and would like to get my hands on a full-length novel by this author because if she can fit this much depth into a novella, I can only imagine what she is capable of creating with twice the content.

Jennifer Ann Shore's fiction is the perfect provider when a reader is in need of something light but satisfying - the literary equivalent of a marshmallow: you know what you are getting; it will be light and fluffy with enough tension to keep it all together; you bite into it and immediately, you get what you want from it; it hits the spot.

Nothing Personal for Breakfast is just this and like the other books that I've read of Shore's, you become invested in characters who are likeable and believable and who you root for, whether this is in their relationship with each other or in what they are trying to achieve. It is feel-good fiction at its best and easily devoured, for this reader, virtually in one sitting.

Shore has also adopted a dual perspective in this book between her two key characters, Gemma and Jack. This can sometimes be difficult as the clarity of the character's voice and their personality needs to show, so that as a reader you can differentiate between them and I am pleased to say that Shore has done this with ease in this book. No confusion here.

The narrative switches between the two from their initial meeting to subsequent encounters. The tension comes from not knowing if they will continue and like all good books of this nature, Shore has found the sweet spot, where the right amount of confusion and uncertainty is thrown in with the right amount of coincidence to place the plot just this side of plausible in the realm of reader pleasure.

I rocketed through it. It delivered everything that I expect in a book of this type and left me feeling sated and eager to read more of Shore's fiction. I have to say this is how I feel after every book that I read by her - I have been transported into a world where I am told a good story with strong characters and witty dialogue, which doesn't tax me in the slightest, except in the way that it keeps me from doing chores.

One of my new favourite go-to authors.

As someone who has never been to a big city and who is a BIG romantic, this book, while written flawlessly, didn’t hit ALL the marks for me this time. And that’s okay. Gemma is career-focused, a true city girl and is at a point in her life where she can’t see past that. I, unfortunately, didn’t connect with her. Jack, on the other hand, is artistic and compassionate and romantic and swoon-worthy and I wanted him for myself. My frustration with Gemma outweighed the romance a bit too much throughout the story, but the ending made me SO HAPPY.

Gemma and Jack have an incomplete one night stand that hooks both of them. But no names were exchanged and in a big city like New York, Gemma is relieved she’ll never see him again while Jack is completely hung up on her. Gemma was recently scorned and is afraid of jumping into a new relationship and Jack just loves love. They are complete opposites, it seems, but their chemistry is so amazing.

Eventually they have a chance meeting again and have dinner, and then Gemma ghosts him. Months again go by and then they both realize they’ve been closer to each other than they thought. By this time, Gemma has reevaluated what she wants and takes a chance. Then we get an ending that is so squeal-worthy and satisfying.

I love Jennifer’s quick stories, but for me and THIS specific trope, I needed a bit…more. This is completely a “me” thing. The writing was, as usual, perfect and engaging. The plot was well-developed with just enough heart and angst to guide it to the best kind of ending.

Title: Nothing Personal for Breakfast
Author: Jennifer Ann Shore
Genre: Adult romance
Rating: 4/5 stars

Gemma isn't interested in continuing the relationship with Jack, after a one-night encounter with him. She's working seventy-hour weeks at a law firm, and after her last relationship ended disastrously, she's not exactly keen to start dating again.
But for reasons she doesn't comprehend, she keeps running into Jack among the millions of people in New York City. He's a hopeless romantic who believes the universe or destiny brought them together, but she insists their meeting was just coincidental. And Jack is on a mission to prove that it's so much more.

The one thing I absolutely love is the writing style. Anything Jennifer Ann Shore writes, I would totally read it. I could tell the author very much has an experience or either deep knowledge about arts, because I keep stumbling upon characters in her other books that has a background of art.

Next, we have two main characters which are Gemma and Jack. Gemma is a strong, funny and a bisexual woman who works as a lawyer and she just got crashed by reality from her disastrous past relationship with Michael. Then we have Jack, a sweet and determined art person who believes in fate after his encounter with her. He couldn't forget their moments no matter how hard he tried.

I like how these characters developed feelings through multiple encounters, how each of them wemt through their separate lives and finally come together to be in a relationship. It was very fast-paced, chill but with enough spiciness (not too much) that liven up the book. So if you're looking for a quick read, you should pick this one up.

This was an adorable story! The characters felt so realistic as did their individual lives within the book. You have a young lawyer who is starting out in her career and a barista working minimum wage while focusing on his art on the side. They both have real life struggles and the interactions they have with each other doesn’t feel like it’s exaggerated for the sake of the story. It reads as if it could be any couples story plucked off the streets of New York which I found so refreshing. Jack sounds like such a catch and I instantly took a liking to him. Gemma was likable for me as well and I completely understand her hesitancy towards a relationship. The witty banter back and forth kept a smile on my face throughout most of the book so I’d highly recommend if you’re looking for something light hearted and sweet to read. The time jumps were easy to follow as it clearly stated at the beginning of those chapters how much time had passed and there were no sudden time jumps within a chapter to mess with the flow of the story. There was even a little surprise towards the end that I never guessed was coming and the shock factor it brought with it was so unexpected and fun to experience. Especially when I didn’t think there would be anything of that nature happening in the story. I enjoyed this book a lot and it was just what I needed to read in between some of the darker/heavier stories on my lists.

A one-night stand has more effect on Gemma Murphy's life than she realizes. She keeps meeting Jack, the guy from that night, in slightly random places in New York City, and they quickly realize that the universe has a funny way of trying to get them together.

I enjoyed the depth of the characters in this story despite the fact that this was a novella. I don't think a reader would get that level of detail about a character in this type of book, but I really like how this affected all of their actions and feelings toward their interactions with each other.

For every predictable moment in the story, there were five more unpredictable things that would come up that kept me engaged and wanting to read on. Of course, the reader will root for the characters to have their happily ever after, but the way in which Gemma and Jack get there is unconventional and sweet at the same time.

My only complaint was that this story wasn't longer. I think some additional details surrounding Ruby and Ryan's relationship would have given the story more meat (this was just kind of thrown onto the reader, even though many may predict that Ruby is dating him), and more interactions with their families would have provided more insight on the main characters.

Nothing Personal for Breakfast by Jennifer Ann Shore is an incredible book. It's on the shorter side but contains so much - a deep, heartfelt story of two people destined to be together, finding each other in a jungle that is New York. Gemma is a workaholic lawyer, totally swamped in a corporate world. Jack is an artist/barista, romantic to the bone. It seems impossible for the two of them to even meet in a big city, but after a one-night-stand, fate keeps bringing them together. Gemma is determined to focus on work and after a disastrous relationship, she is not eager to give it another try. Jack is convinced Gemma is the one for him, and even if Gemma's decision hurts him so much, he keeps loving her despite it being nearly impossible to even meet her again.

This book makes you think about how every person in your life affects you, your life choices, and even your partner. You might live your everyday life, communicate daily with your friends and family, and never know that the love of your life might be … (the puzzle pieces will fall together in a very clever HEA).

I found this book refreshing. In an overly saturated subject area, this contemporary romance novel was able to set itself apart from the pack.

Gemma is a strong, motivated heroine who keeps bumping into an (almost) one night stand. The two are fiercely drawn to each other but can't ever quite get it right between them.

Jack is an artist/barista. He's incredibly drawn to Gemma but she keeps slipping through his fingers.

What sets this book aside is three fold - firstly, Jack is the one who falls hard and Gemma is no damsel in distress who requires saving. Toxic masculinity portrayed as passion doesn't come into it. Their relationship is respectful and passionate without the need for domination and control.

There's also no financial aspect to this story either, it's far more realistic than the clichèd 28yo billionaire.

Thirdly, the ending is about so much more than finding marriage and babies. It also doesn't unfold from meet cute to marriage and kids within 3 months either.

All in all, a refreshing take on romance and I look forward to seeing what this author does next.

3.5 stars. A quick, tantalising novella. The story is sweet, fast-paced and impossible to put down. Jennifer Ann Shore is excellent at internal monologue narrative, and you really understand the thoughts of the characters. But in this read, that also means you can see how actions are misinterpreted and this leads you to quickly turn the pages to see the impact and how the relationship develops.

The book is heavy on narrative, which I enjoyed but does lack scenic descriptions. It benefits from being set in New York as the iconic location allows your mind to easily imagine the scenes without much description. But I feel this would have helped slow the pace and add more to the story.

It would make an excellent romantic film, it does have its’ share of cliché and predictability but we shouldn’t berate the book for that. There’s a comfort and guilty-pleasure in the clichéd aspects which I undeniably enjoyed.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
POV: Dual 1st Person

Stand Alone? Yes

This book was the whole package in a short and sweet read. It had a badass, successful and independent lead female character. It had spice. It had Fate intervening. It was an instalust with a slow burn romance. There was humor and angst. There was a complicated web of connection. There was even a shocker at the end. I honestly couldn’t find ANYTHING to dislike in this book.

Sometimes I worry when reading the shorter books/novellas that I will be left at the end feeling like I may have missed some of the story but that wasn’t the case here. This was a fully developed story with excellent character building and an engaging plot. It didn’t leave me feeling like I missed ANYTHING. I am glad I got it as a paperback because I will DEFINITELY be using this as a feel good read and reading it over, and over, and over again!

"You don't need to be saved. You need to be worshiped." ARE YOU KIDDING ME WITH THIS BOOK JENNIFER? I'M OBSESSED.

I wanted this book to be a full 300-350 page romance novel. The twists! The turns! The pure chemistry between the main characters and ugh just Jack in general.
I truly read this in one sitting. I opened it on my kindle and did not move until it was finished. It's now 12:30am. I don't know what to do with myself?
So good. So good.
I can so see myself reading this again in the future.

Forgot to mention my favorite part — accurate New York City representation. Nothing pisses me off like books set in New York that make absolutely 0 sense. I will believe in magic and ghosts before I believe that a character walked from Time Square to their Brooklyn apartment because they “didn’t feel” like taking the subway.

"Nothing Personal" is a very odd book. Or maybe it's just me--I could not get on board with Gemma pushing Jack away over and over. Nothing about her background except for her stupid thing with Michael seems to put her in the never-dating-again category. They don't exchange names after he takes her home drunk. It also seems unrealistic that her sister doesn't put together the guys' relationships. They keep running into each other with their sibs, and still, no one sees it? After years of this, they finally get it together when Ruby and Jack's stepbrother Ryan marry. Whew! The couple is so hot together and so right, but I guess there would be no story if there were no conflict.

The book is well written, and my reaction shows how good the author is at making one feel things!

This is the second book that I have read from Jennifer Ann Shore and just like the first book, this book did not disappoint. It’s such a beautiful, easy read and as a novella with a shorter page length, I still felt the story went at a perfect pace and was not rushed. The relationship between jack and Gemma had me yelling at the phone “what are you doing!!!! Your being stupid!!!”, a lot but after facing their personal flaws and realising that what was in front of them was special, I could finally be at peace😅 I also would like to point out the bi rep in this book as one of the main characters, Gemma, is bi!! I love seeing this representation in books as I don’t see it enough. I can’t wait to read more of Jennifer’s work as she clearly has a gift at writing romance with deeper meaning and issues. Over all a solid 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I recently read ‘only you in everything’ from this author wich I absolutely ADORED. However, this didn’t even come close. Sadly enough I had no connection with any of the characters.. 180 something pages didn’t feel like enough for this plot. I expected a cutesy romantic story about fate and destiny but Gemma is a very badass female lead that is very work invested and not ready for a relationship while Jack is an upcoming artist that falls head over heels for her. They keep bouncing back and forth between going out for a night then having a timeskip to then bump into each other again and so on and so on. I just didn’t feel it..

I received a free copy of this book, my opinion however is entirely my own.

Loved Everything About this Book.
Great storyline that fits perfectly with the modern NYC single scene. The main characters, Jack and Gemma, were so well written. Their personalities just jumped off the pages in an engaging manner without being overly dramatic. The supporting cast was equally charming in their own quirky ways and added just the right amount of flavor to the scenes.
Overall, it’s a modern love story that doesn’t rush into bed and commitment. The author allows for development of the characters then brings them back together for a very rewarding HEA.
I’m definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure. PEACE.

I couldn't put this down, stayed up way too late and finished it within 24 hours. I love how these two keep getting pushed back together even in huge New York. Gemma thinks she's too busy for a relationship right now but a part of her regrets walking away from Jack that first morning. Jack knows he's all in from the start, even long before he learns her name but doesn't want to push. Lucky for him circumstances keep pushing them together. There were a couple things I could do without (too much focus on the cringe-y guy at work) but overall I loved this book. Thank you to Jennifer Ann Shore for providing me with an ebook copy of Nothing Personal for Breakfast for me to read and review. This newest adult romance by Shore did not disappoint! I was hooked right from the very first page. The characters immediately intrigued me and I was very quickly invested and hoping the best for them. All the way through the book I did not want to put it down. Shore did a wonderful job connecting the characters in the most ironic and surprising ways. Definitely a book that I will be recommending.

I’ve loved all the other books by this author that I’ve read but really could not get into this one at all. It was too much like real life! So many boring conversations and mundane activities. It took so long for characters and relationships to develop that I ended up skimming.

Readers need to be aware that Gemma is bisexual. I have no prejudice against it but if, like me, you would prefer not to read about it this is not the book for you.

Jack is opening his own coffee shop and he’s an artist. Gemma is an lawyer and a workaholic and together they’re a force of nature. Their story starts off as an almost one nightstand and the next morning Gemma basically runs out on him. The problem with these two is that there’s huge chemistry but Gemma refuses to meet up with him or even call, but New York isn’t as big as she thinks it is and fate keeps lending an unwanted hand.
When they both stop running it’s kind of glorious and I love a happy ending. I loved this book and I’m giving it five starts, I’m highly recommending it.

A delightful romance read! Shore is a new author for me and I really enjoyed this read. Our main characters are Gemma and Jack. I loved how they met initially and again and again. I also really enjoyed how other characters were brought in and interwoven not only with the story line but our main characters as well. Told in a dual point of view which was well done and over a span of several years. Well written, captivating, fun, sweet and steamy romance that delights!
